Help! Trouble Rendering 16:9 footage in AE, and playing it in Premiere Pro!

I have two issues:
#1. I've spent hours searching for a solution to this dilemma, and I've only managed to come across "similar" problems other people have been having... However, I still cannot fix my problem.
Basically, I've been editing some footage in After Effects.  The source material was filmed in HDV 1080, 30 fps; the source's aspect ratio was 1440 x 1080.  I attempted to render the completely-edited footage in an AVI format with the compression codec: Xvid MPEG-4 Codec (as was suggested by a tutorial video on YouTube) and with an aspect ratio of 1024 x 768.  But, no matter what I do, my rendered video always comes out horizontally "squeezed" when viewed in Windows Media Player, and when uploaded to YouTube/Facebook.  Fortunately, when imported to Premiere Pro, I can interpret the footage properly so it's not squeezed.
Is there anyway I can render footage in After Effects so the widescreen product isn't "squeezed" in WMP/Facebook/YouTube?
#2. Even though the footage can be interpreted properly in Premiere Pro, the playback is jumpy - like, it'll only play 2 seconds smoothly, and then get stuck, jumping to points that are 5-7 seconds apart.  Surprisingly, the original source material does not have this issue in Premiere Pro, despite having a larger aspect ratio and a file size that's more than twice as large.  I thought maybe a small RAM was the problem, but my computer has 3.8 GB of usable space on the RAM when I checked.  Rendering the work area after every little edit I do is getting too tedious, 'cause it takes about a minute to render the 12 second footage - but at least it plays back smoothly... I don't have to do this with the original source, though.  Is there a way around this?  What's causing the jumpy playback in Premiere Pro CS 5.5?
Thanks...

If you want to render for any media player (QT or Windows) you must use a square pixel format that's appropriate to the codec you're using. AE's presets that use square pixels are all legal frame sizes.  If you want to have Premiere or any other NLE playback footage you render in After Effects without having to re-render the previews you must use the same codec you're using for the sequence.
Your frame size from Premiere is NOT square pixels, it's DVC Pro HD with a 1.33 PAR so unless you bring that footage into a square pixel comp (1920 X 1080 for example) or resize it on export using the Adobe Media Encoder (recommended) or by Resizing in the Output Module (not recommended for a bunch of reasons) the output is going to look squeezed in any media player.
Rendering to the Xvid MPEG 4 codec from AE isn't recommended at all because MPEG codecs only give good results when you use multi pass ending (AME will do that), but more importantly MPEG codecs are GOP codecs which make up the data for several virtual frames from a few real (i frames), and they take a tremendous amount of CPU power to decode.
Your best rendering choices are a lossless 10 bit codec (black magic for example) or a lossless like Animation Quicktime if you need alpha channels, or nearly lossless codec like Photo JPEG QT at 95% quality when you're doing further production on the footage including color correction, or to render to the same codec the camera uses. Only the same codec used for your PPro sequence will give you smooth playback in Premiere Pro without rendering previews.
If you told us what codec the camera uses we'd be able to help you figure out the best option for rendering.

  • How can I make ShadowPlay footage play nice in Premiere Pro CS6?

nVidia recently released the beta for their new capture technology, "ShadowPlay" which makes it a lot easier for youtubers like me to capture footage of PC games. However, Premiere Pro CS6 fails to handle the audio well, throwing it way out of sync. This apparantly happens because Premiere doesn't support variable framerates especially well. I have no interest in editing in Vegas Pro, but i'd be happy to take the extra time to make the file work well in Premiere. I'm not highly knowledgable though so I'm not sure what, if any, the process would be to do this, so I'd greatly appreciate any help!

    >figure a VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE'S forums would know more about editing video
Yes... and everything I know (plus Steven in #2) is that PProCS6 does not do well with variable frame rate video... and is not likely to ever be updated to add that capability
Which is why I suggested contacting nVidia... since the file format is from them, not from Adobe
I don't/won't use PProCC so have NO idea if it works better with your type of file
I think you can try PProCC free for 30 days, so you can find out for yourself... check in the Cloud forum to find out about 30 day trials

  • Dynamic Linked Footage Coming up with Color Bars in Premiere Pro

I recently had been editing a project in Premiere, and decided to do some work in after effects to the footage using the dynamic link function. It's worked fantastically up until this point, as now it's causing me some grief. I recently built a new PC as the mobo among other hardware was showing signs of making it's way out the door after years of use. I installed the HDD from the previous computer into this system, as well as a brand new HDD. Upon opening up my project, all I see on the footage that's been linked into AE is color bars. I figure this is probably just a case of PP having issue finding the location of the video files but I'm unsure and not entirely sure how to go about solving this issue.
    Any ideas?

If you only want to tint the entire frame, then you can do so by creating a solid-color clip, putting that on top of the track that you want to tint, and then set the blending mode to Color. Adust opacity of the color matte to taste.
Toward the bottom of this article, you can see how to do this in After Effects, but the idea is the same in Premiere Pro.

  • Help. The audio of my footage goes really quiet when dragged into Premiere Pro timeline

    Hi there,
Basically, I conducted an interview and the audio sounds loud when I play it through the top left editing window on Premiere, but when I drag it into the timeline it goes quiet. I go on audio gain and it says the peak amplitude is set to -12 for example. Any explanations what is going on/how I can improve the audio?
I tried compressing the audio, which does make it louder, but it also increases the sound of the background traffic noise and makes it sound strange.
    Please help.
    Cheers,
    Jake

Just as an experiment add the fill left audio effect to a clip on the time line, does that make it louder?

  • DVD Rendering and Burning: differences between Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements

I am landscape photogapher and wish to either create slide shows in Premerie or import them to Premiere  from H264 1080 quicktime files generated by Ligthroom 3.  I do not do frame by frame video editing.  My only goal in using Premiere is to be able to render and/or burn DVD's and eventually Bluetooh compatible DVD's for play back on commercial flat panel TV's, e.g., Samsung flat panel dvd's.
Are the DVD rendering and burning capablity of Pemiere CS5 Pro and Premiere 9 Elements equivalent , i.e, are that both as likely to produce DVD's that render with natural color on commercial flat panel TV's?
My prior experience is that my Lightroom generated 1080, H264 quicktime movies  have perfectly natural color on Mac LCD and other computer monitors but see very over saturated color on commecial flat panel tv's.
Discussions with Adobe tech support folks are contradictory on this matter.

The main differences between the authoring capabilities (the assembly of DVD/BD, navigation and Menus, plus burning) of Encore (the authoring program, that ships and installs with PrPro) and PrE 9 are:
1.) Encore is a full-featured authoring program, offering a lot more power and flexibility, but at the expense of having to do it "by hand," where PrE 9 is very limited in the navigation that can be employed, and it uses Menu Sets for that automation. Though PSD's, like the Menus in Encore, they have many special aspects, that must be considered, when doing any customization.
A.) In Encore, one can create almost all sorts of navigation in the DVD/BD, limited almost exclusively to the limits imposed by the DVD, or BD specs.
B.) PrE 9 will allow Autoplay, with no Menu, or will automatically create Scene Menus, per the Chapter Markers that you add - and that is ALL. There will      be no Into AV material. No Subtiltes. No supplemental Audio streams. Only linear navigation, or no navigation.
C.) Menus for Encore are much more easily customized, where there are some major conventions in those from PrE, that MUST be addressed.
2.) Encore can Burn an Image (ISO) - no Image in PrE, and can Burn a BD to Folder, which cannot be done in PrE - only for DVD.
3.) Encore offers the capability to adjust Layer Breaks for DL discs.
4.) Encore allows one to adjust the Burn speed, and in PrE, one is stuck with the "fastest" based on the speed of the media + the burner
5.) Encore allows output to a Flash delivery with pretty much full navigation.
6.) Encore allows for changes in the Subpicture Highlight Color Sets, and PrE will only do that, with some Menu Set editing.
7.) Encore offers a SlideShow feature, but I feel that it is rudimentary and limited, and assemble mine in PrPro, then go to Encore for authoring.
8.) Encore is a separate program, though interfaces with PrPro with ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link), and is NOT available as a stand-alone any more - only with      PrPro.
There are probably more differences, and some of the above might not make any difference to you. Things can probably be summed up as: Encore = great power and flexibility, but with things being done manually, and PrE lacks the power and flexibility, but is semi-automatic, so probably easier to use on simple Projects.
Good luck, and hope this helps you make the decision,
    Hunt
[Edit] Sorry that some of the formatting for the Outline did not translate well. Gotta' explore the Outline formatting in the editing screen more, 'cause it would probably have fixed things. Sorry about that.

  • Help!!! LC designer  8.2 and properties access in Adobe Pro 9

    Hello
I have made a PDF in Designer but when i saved it and opened it with Adobe Pro 9, i don't have anymore Access to the page Properties./Initial view even if there is no protection on the PDF. and i need to keep an access to hide the "purple taskbar" where there is the "Sent" button.
Adobe put this button when you are using Acrobat.com to diffuse your PDF
i don't want it when we open the PDF with Reader
Do you know how to keep an access or to disable this taskbar
    Thanks

The banner at the top of the screen is called the Document Message Bar (DMB), it is purple for forms, and blue for certified or signed documents.
The document message bar can only be turned off by changing the program preferences.  You can NOT script the DMB per form.
In Acrobat or Reader, you can go to Edit --> Preferences, Locate the Forms category and check the box "Always hide forms document message bar".  Turning this off in Acrobat does not turn it off in Reader, each applications preferences are independent.

  • DSC Labs colour charts and the vectorscope of Premiere Pro CC - please help

Let me immediately say that I am a retired engineer who has been a photographer since 1946 and videographer since the late 1990's - but I'm messing around in unfamiliar territory so may well say/ask some silly things...
I have a new DSC Labs "Camette v9.1" test chart and will soon take delivery of a new Atomos Samurai Blade recorder (I have a Ninja2 - and love it apart from the awful display).  The Blade will give me vectorscope, RGB Parade etc. functionality that I can use on the camera output before recording.  I have multiple cameras, which I would like to calibrate.
The Camette test chart requires that the gain of the vectorscope be set to 2x for the patch colours to be placed in their respective "boxes" during calibration.  I can definitely confirm that PP's vectorscope shows the colours to be only around 50% of the way from the centre to their respective boxes.
    Here are my questions:
    1.  Is there a way to set the gain of PP's vectorscope to anything other than 1x or 0.75x?  I really need 2x
    2.  Do all the DSC charts require a 2x gain, or is this specific to the Camette?  The Camette is about $160 whereas the bigger charts can exceed $1000 each.  As you might expect, the colours don't look at all saturated!!!
    3.  Does anybody know if the Samurai Blade vectorscope function can be set for a gain of 2x?  I am still awaiting a response from Atomos.
    With thanks in advance,
    Pete

  • Help!  Ideas for displaying ~100-300 still images with After Effects / Premiere Pro

Hi, I am a cadet at a US Air Force detachment and am responsible for making this semester's end of the year video.
I have the Adobe creative cloud and am familiar with the basics of Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, and I am trying to also learn After Effects.  I have a large amount of picture and video, and am at a loss for how to quickly make all these pictures into an interesting slideshow.  Software such as Cyberlink Powerdirector had a "photo grid" which would allow me to create an automatic slideshow of images on a 3x3 grid, where each image flashed into place one at a time.  I am looking for automated processes or tutorials to feed my images into and have a modern effect of displaying the images.
If anyone has any idea for a template or where to start on handling a large amount of still images in After Effects or Premiere Pro, I could definitely use a point in the right direction!

i've been using Premiere Pro for about a year and a half with no trouble, no crashes that i can remember.   I updated to 5.0.4 when it came out and experienced no problems.
I have not made any changes to my system (drivers, programs, etc.) since the last time i worked with Premiere Pro with no trouble.  The only  difference is that i generated approx. 52GB of new video files (mov. uncompressed 32bit 640x480 resolution) that i was beginning to edit in to a music video.
My current problem is:: there is absolutely no playback of video in 5.0.4.   not in the tiny project window preview,  not in the source preview, and not in the timeline/canvas window.   when i push PLAY, the button turns into a square STOP button, but nothing happens.   this is independent of project or file type.  The project i was working on when playback stopped is using uncompressed 640x480 32bit Quicktime files and one 44khz/16bit .AIFF file.   as a quick doublecheck, I just added a 640x480 Apple Intermediate Codec file and it also will not play back.   I opened older projects and none of them will playback.
My problem started while i was working on a project.  I was working on the project for probably an hour and a half with no trouble.  Then it seemed to get a bit sluggish and i could hear the HD churning a little more.   After rendering out a short section (just under 10 seconds), PPro did not play back the just rendered (now greenline) section.  Immediate playback of rendered material was the default behavior, and this was the first time ever that the just rendered section did not play back.   I then discovered that no video would play back at all--in any of the windows.   I can scrub through all the video without any trouble--all the frames are there.
I shut down PPro, & restarted.  No change.   I restarted my computer.  No change.
Realizing that the problem was likely related to a lack of space on my data drive,  i deleted approx. 500GB of files off my 2 TB drive, leaving just under a 1/3 of it free.  i checked the drive for errors, and defragmented it.  Premiere Pro still wouldn't play any file from any project.
The files are fine, they will playback anywhere else (several different file types involved in different projects).  The files are compatible with Premiere Pro (uncompressed VGA resolution Quicktime .mov), i was editing on the timeline with them for hours before all video playback stopped.   All other Adobe programs  (After Effects, Photoshop work fine).
I tried to find an answer/solution on these forums, unsuccessfully.   After uninstalling PPro and reinstall (did not help), and entire Suite uninstall, Adobe Clean, and reinstall,  neither version 5.0.0 or 5.0.4 will play video --the no playback problem has persisted.
I was running out of HD space --i had less room than i thought -- down to about 7% of free space, a bone-headed move on my part.  I'm not  surprised that playback performance got compromised due to lack of space.   But i'm shocked that the problem is persisting.   Fortunately, i had just backed up my entire system the day before.  (i've backed up many times before and this never affected PPro performance)
i tried to "CLEAN" the media cache for the sequence but it had no effect  (in searching the forums, i saw somebody else have their 'crashing Premiere Pro' problem solved by hitting this button).  I just took a look in the user/application support/adobe/common/5.0 to look at the "Media Cache" folder and the "Media Cache Files" folder.   Neither of them are empty, even after hitting the CLEAN cache button in the main preferences 'Media' settings window.   I don't know if this is the correct behavior or not.   (i'd expect a "clean" command to empty the folder, but i'm not the programmer)
This does not appear to be the ATI/5.0 problem that so many Mac users suffered (i was lucky to never have that problem).    Again, i've never had any problems with Premiere Pro over the last year and a half, until working on this latest project with the Hard Drive very low on space.   I'm 99.9% positive that's at the heart of the issue.
I don't understand why a clean reinstall did not help in this regard.  The problem is clearly PPro specific.   I found one topic in the forum where someone else experienced this same "no video playback" problem, but there was never follow-up from the user saying whether or not his problem was solved (or what was done to correct the problem).
I'd love to get some help--- seems to be a very rare issue, but right now, i can do no video editing.  btw,  i started a new project as well and imported a .mov file -- same problem, no video playback.
the weird thing is that i can actually still edit video.  i just rearranged my timeline assets and rendered out a minute-long quicktime (Apple Intermediate Codec) .mov and it looks and plays as it should.    This is really weird.  I'm baffled -- there must be some way to fix this.   I don't want to have to go back to Final Cut,  certainly not when i've already paid for Create Suite 5 Production Premium and EVERYTHING works except for video playback in PrPro.
thanks in advance for your help

hello.   hey, thanks very much for writing back.  i got some good info with a search or two.  (info about what regedit is and what corresponds to it in OS X -- regedit allows you to edit "preference" keys for individual programs,  OSX's equivalent for these keys are the .plists in User & System: Preferences and Application Support)
what i ended up doing was uninstalling Premiere Pro (not the suite, just PPro).   Then i deleted a few preference files:
    from User /Preferences/Adobe:
    com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist
    com.Adobe.Premiere Pro.5.0.plist
    and from System Preferences:
the file:  Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs
    and..
    /.../Premiere Pro/5.0/...
AMEPrefs.xml     (i noticed that there's also a preference file in Media Encoder's own folder so i didn't sweat this one)
    Debug Database.txt
    Placeholder Preset.epr
    PostEncodeCmds.pref
    PresetCache.xml
    Trace Database.txt
    NOTE:
of course i don't know if deleting any files beyond the 2 .plist files in User Prefs was necessary, but...  it seems to have worked.
I then reinstalled Premiere Pro CS5, and fired up an old project and i've got playback of HD and DV files, and snappy editing and rendering,  so hopefully i'm good to go.   I'm just going to stick with v5.0.0 because i actually don't remember ever having any trouble with it, and i don't remember v5.0.4 adding anything i was 'missing' or 'needed'
hopefully, this thread will be useful for any future folks that run into trouble - and it's got a solution for both Windows and OS X
    happy editing,

  • Help needed with Avid AAF to Premiere Pro CC (w/wo/AE in the loop)

    Folks,
I am taking over a feature film edit to finish in Premiere Pro. I want to use AE's Pro Importer to convert the Avid edit (AAF export) to an AE session and then export to PP CC.
The 1st editor was cutting with Avid Media Composer. All the source footage is Sony AVCHD camera creating .MTS files. The Avid made .MXF proxies using Avid media DNx36.
Here are the reasons for my problems (don't laugh):
    1. There are 20 days of footage in 20 folders. Inside each folder are X number of shots, the highest volume has 91.
    2. each day's footage starts with shot# "00000.MTS" which means there are 20 files named "00000.MTS" in this project.
    3. none of the source .MTS footage has any of the metadata filled out. Using an EDL an manually re-linking every single shot is a ROYAL PAIN, having to hunt for the right shot# 00041.MTS, example.
    4. The script supervisor's End of Day reports are riddled with mistakes of which scenes were shot on which days - says scene 8 was Day 13 but no Scene 8 footage in the Day 13 folder.
    5. Avid editor NEVER uses AAF export for Video, only audio. Everytime he tries, the AAF files either copy and link to the .MXF proxies in a new Custom folder OR are Offline/Missing on AE Pro Import looking at the AAF folder instead of my AVCHD folder contain all of the original footage.
Can one of you MegaMinds help me help the Avid Editor (MAC-based) in AVID MC
    a. take his existing edit and re-link media to the original files
    b. export said edit to a NEW AAF with the original source footage files linked to the timeline
    c. get Pro Importer (AE) OR Premiere Pro to correctly import the AAF data with the original pathways (folder structure) for re-linking footage on my (PC-based) RAID
-FYI-  Premiere Pro CC currently hangs up on import of his current AAF files.
Help me Obi-wan Adobe, you're my only hope!

    Having similar issues.
Premiere CC 2014 seems to have fixed AAF import hanging up.
Avid "updated" the info contained in AAF relating to AMA linked material beginning with MC 6.5 and as a result AAF comes in with blank sequence.
Avid says adobe needs to update AAF input.
The workaround I have been using is to copy filename to clipname in MC relink to DNX media export AAF import into premiere and manually relink.
    Hoping Adobe will address issue.
    Thanks

  • Best Export / Video settings for Premiere Pro. Help Needed.

What's the best settings when you want to export a video from Premiere Pro for the web or otherwise. Best settings = good quality video and LOW file size.
Benchmark : The videos on Apple Trailers. Check them out at http://www.apple.com/trailers
The trailers are of high quality video, great sounds, and the Large sizes all fall under the 25MB mark. Any ideas on HOW this is done and what
settings in Premiere Pro CS3 might be able to replicate such standards?
Any help is appreciated. I normally use Encoder and export using H264 but that always seems to have an Audio lag. Any similar issues?
    Thanks a mil!

I understand that better quality = bigger file size. That's true in most cases, but there is a way around it, I'm just not sure what that way is. As I mentioned in the original post, the benchmark is http://www.apple.com/trailers . The non-HD videos on any movie page on that site hardly ever exceeds the 25MB mark. The videos are 2-3minutes long, and while they may not be top-notch BD visuals, they look way better than 95% of the stuff that's streamed off the net.
That's why I asked if anyone had any ideas on how to replicate something like that. Say I had a avi file of great quality, shot with a Panasonic DV Cam. I Capture the footage, do whatever I have to in Pr, and the result is now a 3minute video. I want it exported to a Quicktime file, I want it to look visually pleasing like the trailers on Apple, and I want it to fall under 25MB. I have tried H.264 encoding, regular Quicktime, and Quicktime via Encoder. Nothing reaches the expected quality.
For more examples visit http://www.passionpictures.com.my/pages/recent.aspx and download those simple 30second clips. All Quicktime, mostly under 5.5MB. If Pr can't do it, then I don't know what can...so I'm sure Pr can do it.
Problem is, how? Experimentation is definitely a way to go, I get that. But on the basis of the scenario given above...how is it done?

    Hi everyone,
I'm having some trouble getting the results I want with the stabilizing tools in Premiere Pro and After Effects.  I'm having the same problem with multiple shots, but to keep things simple I'll just explain one:
I have a clip, shot handheld, of a dried-up river bed.  For handheld, it's pretty steady, but I'd like to stabilize it so it looks like it was shot on a tripod.  When I use warp stabilizer in Premiere Pro (and After Effects), it barely crops anything, and stabilization is barely noticeable.
I feel like I've used the tool in the past (maybe a previous version) and it used to crop in clips quite a bit, but it completely steadied them.  I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  Is there another tool?
I also tried the motion tracker but got similar results.  I even put the clips in Avid and some third party plugin trials, with poor results.  All the tutorials I watch make warp stabilizer and other stabilizer tools look so easy and effective.  I feel like an idiot but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!
    Notes:
-Both the clip settings and sequence settings match.
    -Using Adobe CS6.

Yes. I tried "No Motion" and still poor results.
I would say most of them are relatively flat.  I shot a lot of scenery with a wide angle lens.
However some do have a close foreground (with subject in focus) and far background (out of focus).

  • Premiere Pro playback Footage issue - W/ After Effects Composition

Hi, I've had a very irritating issue as of late.
I've been working on a project for the past couple weeks and it has been going well.
I use AVCHD 1080p 29.97fps 24p footage. It plays perfectly fine in my Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4. I have used After Effects to replace many parts of the footage and has gone very well... Except one piece of footage.
For what ever reason, it plays terribly only when I apply an After Effects composition to it. If it is the raw footage, it's fine. If I alter it in after effects it's fine. But if it's altered from AE and I attempt to play it in Premiere Pro it repeats old frames. A mixture of stuttering and several frames back through out the whole clip.
I have NO idea what caused it or why it's happening.
    Does anyone know?
    Thank You.

AVCHD footage is highly compressed using a GOP compression scheme. This makes it unsuitable for heavy processing and subject to all kinds of errors and artifacts when re-compressed. The best workflow is to convert (transcode) your AVCHD footage to a lossless or nearly lossless codec that preferably uses YUV color space. I work mostly on a Mac so my preference is Apple ProRez 444. I transcode everything that I work on that is going to require more than just straight cuts.
Try transcoding (Adobe Media Encoder or Compressor or even Quick Time Pro are a few of the options) your problematic clip, replace the AVCHD footage in your AE comp with the transcoded footage, then re-render to a lossless or nearly lossless codec. Bring your new render into PPro and render a preview. Let us know if this fixes your problem.
