How to management of software license compliance in SCCM 2012

Hi,
Anyone using SCCM 2012 to manage software licenses? If so then I would like to find out more about it and would appreciate if you could share your experience and current setup.
thanks
Ihunzai

I was thinking to use the metering usage data on the products that are reporting over in licenses via AI inventory and push an un-installer package to the ones who have not used products in more then x months to bring the numbers down in AI.
Before, I do anything I wanted to understand how to go about with AI and importing software licenses. I would appreciate if anyone has enabled AI and imported software license file to get some numbers.
Thanks

    Dear friend,

  • How can you see Software Update compliance breakdown by Client?

I want to see a view in the Software Library that breaks down by client what is shown in the "All Software Updates" node.
Basically, with SCCM 2012 you can see all the software updates and there compliance summary which is nice, however I can't find a way to see a detailed version of this that breaks this all down by client.
For example if I have a Software Update that is Required on 5, Not Required on 3, Installed on 4, and Unknown on 2 clients I want to know which specific clients make up those numbers. I want to know which clients are required, which are not required, which
are already installed and which are unknown.
There doesn't seem to be a view like this in SCCM 2012 and its very odd that it doesn't provide this look into the data.
Am I missing something, can someone point me to the way to see this data quickly.

I am aware of that view however that is just mapping the state number to a name for several different "TopicTypes". And the one you are point to is actually not for Software Updates Scan Status. The TopicType for a Clients Update Scans is 500,
which has 0-3 only. 0 is supposed to be Unknown, 1 not-required, 2 required, and 3 installed.
They set the status for an endpoint/update for 2 and 3 but I have several Unknown, and Not-Required and they don't write those rows to the database if they are in that state.
It seems when they are gathering data from the client the summarize everything, and one keep the specific rows for clients if they are required or installed, and they don't create a row for the other states. From some digging it looks like they stored this
data in 2007, but dropped in in 2012.
Maybe it is to conserve space or something I don't know but its stupid. It would be nice if there was a hidden setting that would enable it to store these rows as the database is set to collect them, they just don't.
    FYI...
For WMI Queries you can use SMS_StateInformation which maps to the v_StateNames.

So, How to reinstall the software update point in primary site server since this is located in the middle between CAS and secondary site servers.

    Hi,
    >> please suggest me, do I have to do anything special apart from the normal steps to uninstall and reinstall the SUP point on primary site server?
I just tried to reinstall the SUP on the Primary site(only one SUP on Primary site and there is a SUP on Secondary site). The SUP upstream data source of the Secondary site showed empty and greyed out. But the upstream data source resumed after a while.
It seems nothing special needs to be done.

  • Best Strategy for Managing Laptops in a Mixed InTune / SCCM 2012 World

We're interested in leveraging Intune to help secure and update our roaming laptop users. We have a group of domain-joined laptops that spend a good deal of time off the company network. We thought we could use Intune to make sure these machines stay updated
and safe while off the network. I understand that we should make sure the SCCM 2012 client does not get installed on any machine that has the Intune client. Will connecting and logging into our domain cause any issues for these clients that anyone can see?
    Orange County District Attorney

I'm glad that it should work in our instance. Our office just bought some Office 365 licenses as well as Intune. We thought Intune could solve our issue of roaming laptops. We just recently came into some laptops that would be our first, out-of-the-office
work systems that we want to manage. The Microsoft folks are assuring us this is the way to go for this particular instance. We haven't had a need to use IBCM or DirectAccess up to this point. We've run into issues with our County firewall folks that
won't let us run DirectAccess as we do have a Juniper VPN that takes care of our remote issues. As for IBCM, we'll have to look a bit deeper into that and see if it has better features for us than Intune does. We don't have any mobile management requirements
in the near future so I'm left wondering why the heck are management even bought the licenses.
Thanks for the note back on my question.

  • How i discover all work-group computer in sccm 2012

how i can make  discovery for  all work-group computer in sccm 2012

Jason - true but some environments don't always have this luxury. I've worked with clients recently whereby they weren't able to add all devices into AD but yet still wanted to managed them in ConfigMgr. It does add complexity and extra work and I wouldn't
recommend, as I'm sure you wouldn't, running Network Discovery on a frequent basis.

  • How to deploy Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13 with SCCM 2012 r2?

    Hi there
I want to create a .msi package of Photoshop/Premiere Elements 13 for SCCM 2012 r2. Can me anyone give a tutorial or a tip?

If you want to deploy lync by SCCM, you may utilize config.xml to do that. All the things you want to configure, you may find it can be achieved in config.xml
Run the install by using the following command line:
    <path>\setup.exe /config <path>\config.xml

  • Software center permissions error, SCCM 2012

I'm getting a strange error in the software center.  The applications and packages deploy without any problems but users receive an error when trying to install the application or package through software center.  They receive the error "Insufficient
Permissions for Software Installation" and "Your IT department has set restrictions for this software that prevent it from installing on your computer".  I have attached the screenshot.  We are running SCCM 2012 on Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server
2008 R2 on a separate server.  If this is something that is configured on the server I don't remember ever doing it but I can't find that error anywhere on Google so I'm kind of at a loss for the moment.  Again, any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

EDIT: Found this in the SCCM Documentation Library doc file (Feb 1, 2013).
Why do I see an error message about insufficient permissions from a Windows Embedded device when I try to install software from Software Center?
You can install applications only when the write filter on the Windows Embedded device is disabled. If you try to install an application on a Windows Embedded device that has write filters enabled, you see an error message that you have insufficient
permissions to install the application and the installation fails.

  • How do I deactivate a license key for server 2012 r2 essentials

I bought a retail version of server 2012 r2 essentials to upgrade my 2003. I found my software is not compatible with "essentials" and it
is compatible with "Standard".  Now I am buying a retail standard edition. My buddy is interested in the "essentials" for his server.

Strange... Server Essentials IS Server with some add ons.  What tells you it will not work?  Or is support for your program just balking?
As for your bud... let him call MS if it does not activate and explain a hardware failure.  They will give him a new key... but it should not be necessary for the second install attempt.

  • How can you expire deployments in bulk in SCCM 2012 SP1?

As April 8th approaches and we've all but purged XP from our environment, I want to expire all of our deployments for XP packages, however; going through 350+ deployments by hand seems rather ludicrous. PowerShell for CM doesn't seem to be very developed
or suited for this (though I admit I'm much more well versed in AD cmdlets) and while I could do this by directly running a SQL statement against the database, my understanding is that this is not supported and generally frowned upon.
Does anyone have any ideas of a good way of doing this? Eventually it would apply to purging all XP related data (deployments, packages, collections) from our SCCM environment. We're running 2012 SP1.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Issue with Importing Software Licenses Into the Asset Intelligence Catalog

I'm trying to import a MSVL spreadsheet into SCCM 2012. Everything I have found so far all points to SCCM 2007 not 2012.
I save the Licensing Summary tab as an CSV and save it on a share on the SCCM 2012 server. When I run the wizard to import the
files I get the following error message.
    Error: Importing file:
We will now import Microsoft licensing information from the file \\******\******\*********.csv into the Asset Intelligence database.
    Errors
    1
Unable to open the licensing statement file.
I have also tried the same as an
XML (spreadsheet) with the same result.
I sent a copy of the spreadsheet to the Microsoft licensing team and they assured me it was a standard claret report Any ideas what else I should
    be doing or checking for?
    Thanks in advance.

    Go to the following link:
    https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/Downloads/DownloadsAndKeys.aspx
    Go to Licenses>License Summary
Click “Download all License Information” on the right side.
The CSV should have the following fields:
Product Pool - License Product Family - License Version - Effective Quantity - Unresolved Quantity - Active SA Quantity
Using above method I have successfully managed to import license info in SCCM 2012 R2

  • How to add a ipv6 prefix boundary in sccm for Direct Access

Does anyone know how to add a ipv6 prefix for a sccm 2012 boundary?   For one, I'm not sure which prefix I should add.   I tried adding a couple prefix ipv6 addresses I seen on the DirectAccess gpo that is autocreated but sccm says invalid.  For
some reason SCCM adds a bunch of zeros after what I put.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

I opened the sccm console and looked for my test computer.  I right clicked the device and did properties.   It then showed all the ipv6 prefixes for under discovery data.   Did all the work for me.   Added those and now my software will
download and install from software center.
