HP 8600 Officejet Pro

I have been having trouble lately getting the error that the printhead is missing and it also says there is a problem with the printer or ink system.  It give the troubleshooting tip to remove and then put it back in and turn the machine off and then back on.  I have done this multiple times without success, I also replaced all the cartridges which were replaced recently, and still no success.  What do I need to do now?  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hello jttw,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you have been attempting to clear an error on the Officejet 8600, either missing printhead or ink system failure. The steps on the printer front display provide a good base for troubleshooting, I have been able to locate the complete steps.
These HP documents: A 'Missing or Failed Printhead' Error Message Displays on the Printer after Installing a New Printhe... & A 'Printer Failure' Message That Might Include an '0x610000f6' or '0x61xxxxxx' Error Code Displays o... are your best chance at clearing the error.
I hope they help, reply back if you are in need of more help.
Thanks for posting,

  • How do I print standard 6 3/4" standard size envelopes from an hp 8600 officejet pro printer?

How do I print 6 3/4" standard size envelopes from an hp 8600 officejet pro printer. This printer has this size on the tray and has this size listed in the printer set up on the printer, but the drop down boxes from my computer to set up the printer do not have this standard size listed. I keep getting messages on my printer that it is not set for the right size. I have a list of supported envelopes and their numbers for this printer but which one of these other numbers is the same as the 6 3/4" standard size envelope. I have an operating system of windows 7 with an older version of publisher. Everything else prints ok from publisher & the printer, just not the standard size envelopes of 6 3/4".
    Please help!

    Hi indy-girl,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to print 6 3/4" envelopes from your HP Officejet Pro 8600, but keep getting an error 'printer that it is not set for the right size'. After taking a look at the Supported envelopes sizes, the 6 3/4 is not supported. See below:
I was able to take a look at the 8600, the only thing I am seeing listed on the paper tray is Legal/Letter, and the 4x6". I am not seeing the 6 3/4 size.
    I hope this helps!

  • HP 8600 Officejet Pro stuck on layout setting of long-edge binding (duplex printing)

My HP 8600 Officejet Pro 8600 is stuck on a layout setting for printing of long-edge binding (duplex printing). It's conected to a mac running OSX 10.8.4 Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From the application used to print click on File and the select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.
Click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    6. Set the Two-Sided option as the required binding or select Off to disable it.
Click on Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset and perform the print job... the settings will remain default till another preset will be used.

The only option to darken the text is to change the print quality to its highest setting. To do so, please follow the steps listed below.
In the software program you are trying to print from, click File, and then click Print . The Print dialog box will open.
Select your product from the Name drop-down menu, and then click Properties . The Properties dialog box will then open.
    Click the Paper/Quality tab.
Under Quality Settings you will be able to increase the print quality.

I have an 8600 Officejet Pro. Have changed settings in advanced fax setup so that busy redial is off and no answer redial is off, but the crazy thing is, it still redials. How can I stop this?  Thanks for any advice.

    Hi,
Has anyone responded to this? Any solutions?
I have pulled the power, tried turning it off in the fax wizard and the redials are continuous and driving me mad!
I've hit the "cancel fax" button hundreds of times and can't get to the "set-up" app before it reverts to dialing again.

    Hi @RodLH,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer keeps rebooting. I am happy to help!
I would suggest a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector! • 8600 officejet pro wont shutoff bygreen button on front of machine unplugging doesnt work either

    8600 wont shutoff

Good day to you, @TEJOSand welcome to the community!
I hope I can help you
I saw that your Officejet 8600 will not power off, and you've tried unplugging the machine.
My suggestion would be to try a firmware update.
You can try updating the firmware through the front of the printer if you can access the menus and if the printer is on a wireless network. Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
If not, plug in a USB cable to your Windows 8.1 system and download this firmware update: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware
Also, when you reset the printer, and have it unplugged for at least 30 seconds, try holding the power button down for a few seconds to drain any additional power inside of the printer. When plugging the printer back in, plug in the power directly to a power outlet to ensure the unit has full power.
If there is still any problems with powering the unit on or off, please call us!

    Hello popskiutah,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you are having issues with the profile settings from Scan to Email with the Officejet Pro 8600, which model of 8600 is yours, the N911a, N911g or the N911n?
Also, which Email client are you using, Gmail, MSN, etc? I have been noticing a lot of them are using a Two-Step Verification, check to see if your client is and disable it, if needed.
Lastly, have you tried with another Email address?

  • Network Printing Problems with Windows 8.1 and HP 8600 Officejet Pro

I can not print or scan from my Dell 2720 after the system has gone to sleep.  My printer shows as connected to my network.  Most time I have to completely restart my PC to get it to work but even that doesn't correct the issue most time.  I have removed and reinstalled the printer at least a dozen times and updated the drivers several times.  Also another oddity - my router is a dual-band (2.4 & 5 GHz) and my printer only connects to the 2.4 GHz connection which I understand is normal but any device attempting to print must be connect to the 5GHz band or nothing will print.  So essentially I have two problems.  Any suggestions?

    Hi @mhmost,
I would be happy to help you print to your 8600. Running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor> >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
As for the frequency, you are correct, the printer will not work over the 5.0GHz frequency, only with the 2.GHz.I suggest disabling the 5.0 frequency, and running on only the 2.4.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Unable to update firmware on HP 8600 Officejet Pro Premium

I just discovered today that there is a newer version of the firmware CLP1CN1322CR, which was released
    7/18/2014.
I already have an earlier version of that same firmware installed.  It was released last year (date unknown), and I installed it on 9/19/2014.  Doing so added, among other things, the Wireless Direct feature.
    1. I attempted today to install the version released 7/18/2014.  It failed, with the dialogue box Status showing "Up to date."
    2. Is there any additional benefit to upgrading this firmware on this printer?  If so, what are they and how can I perform the upgrade, considering that the firmware has the same ID but a later release date?  Would I need to downgrade the firmware with the original version that came with the printer (CLP1CN1150CR), then perform the upgrade?  (I looked everywhere for the original version, but could not find it.)
    Additional info:
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit.
    Connection: Wireless Direct
    All printer functions work flawlessly.
Printer plugged directly in to the wall.
    Thanks.

Yes that is correct. So the version you have is the newest. There is another code you may see posted on the forums, but although it appears to be a newer version it is not, it is simply the same version that was obtained through the Web Service menu rather than the HP Website.
Is there anything else I can help with?

  • HP 8600 OfficeJet Pro Premium

Until yesterday I've been able to Scan to Computer for the last several years without issue.
Yesterday I upgraded to Yosemite OS on my computer and today I get the error message on the printers' display: "User name or password is incorrect. Make sure the credentials are correct in the configuration".
I did not do a clean install so everything should have stayed the same as it was.
That said, I did go into the HP Utility and also the printers web page to check the settings and re-entered my system password to no avail.
I like being able to scan at the printer to my SCANS folder on my computer.
Also, I attempted to use the web page and scan from the computer, that worked but I've no idea where the scan is located on my computer now...ugh
Perhaps some here knows about these issues...I did a search and didn't come up with anything yet.

    Hi @WSwigart
I think you had the right idea. Instead of modifying the scan profile in the Embedded Web Server, can you delete it and re-create the scan profile? I know that might sounds crazy, but it may just do the trick.
Alternatively, you could scan from the printer but choose scan to computer instead of scan to network folder.

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't connect to my wireless router

This is bizarre.  I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 for about 6 months.  It has generally worked fine, and we have used it wirelessly only.  But now it refuses to connect to the router.  It can FIND the router, and it can find other networks in the area, but it won't connect to the router.  I ran the Wireless Network Test, and the results say:
Wireless On - Pass // Wireless Working - Pass //
Network Name (SSID) found - Pass //  Wireless Networks Detected - 9
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings - Pass / No Filtering - FAIL //
So it recommends solution as follows: "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled, and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."
Except, guess what, I don't have MAC Address filtering enabled.  I wouldn't know how to do that, much less check for it.
Also, before today, this was never a problem.  HELP!
    Thanks....
If you are interested, here's more detail and background.
Before today, the only problem we have had is that frequently our Apple laptop (OS X 10.6) has trouble connecting to the printer.  This has been odd because the printer is connected to the network, and so is the laptop, but the laptop can't find the printer - it thinks the printer is "offline" (even though it's not).  Usually, if I wait a while, it will find the printer, and it will resolve itself work fine.  If not, we sometimes have found that it can fix itself if you restart the laptop -- restarting the printer does not make a difference.   In fact, I did exactly that today, and it resolved itself.  And I printed.  Fine, right?
But then I wanted to do more printing, and the problem of the laptop not finding the printer came up again, so I decided to really "get to the bottom of this."  I don't remember exactly what I did, but somehow I was persuaded by the online help, that the correct solution would be to go into my System Preferences / Print and Fax, and click on the "-", which de-installs the printer, with the idea of re-installing the printer.  But then when I tried to re-install the printer, it could not find the printer.  Ugh!  Wierdly, it found an 8600 Scanner, but not an 8600 printers.  After installing and de-installing the 8600 scanner a few times, I eventually deinstalled everything, and I decided to start from scratch.  I got my HP disk, and installed all the software again from the beginning (even though it was already there), and then it looked for my printer, but couldn't find it.  So then I got a USB cord, and plugged that in.
So, now I have a situation where I do have a working printer via the USB cord, but no wireless connection at all.  In particular, since the Office Jet Pro 8600 won't connect to the router, I don't know what else to do.  My Apple MacBook pro is 2 feet away from the printer, and it is connected to the router just fine (as is my blackberry), and I have never before had a problem connecting to the wireless router by the printer.
    Any suggestions?

There are two things that can trip the mac filtering test to fail:  actual MAC address filtering setup (sounds like this is not the case) and using wireless channel 6 or automatic for wireless channel in the wireless network settings (in the router).  Since it does show failed for MAC filtering and you do not use this option, try changing the wireless channel in the router to 1 or 11.  Those two channels provide the best compatibility with printers due to less interference.  Almost everything defaults to auto or 6 for the channel and this causes a lot of interference.  This change should not affect anything at all.  To do this, you may need to contact the router manufacturer as the process differs from router to router.
What brand and model is the router?
Has anything in the network settings changed at all?
What version is the Mac OS X?  There may be additional steps to take as it sounds like there are two separate issues involved and this could be revisited later.
