HP AiO remote doesn't recognize 3rd party toner as compatible in LaserJet M1217nfw MFP

Hi,
I have a HP Envy 17 running Windows 8.1, a MacBook Air, an iPhone and a HP LaserJet M1217nfw MFP.  I recently replaced the toner with a 3rd party replacement cartridge and while the printer does give me a "supply memory error" I am still able to print just fine from the Mac and my phone.  I am unable however to print from my Envy.  The HP All-in-One Remote app in Windows 8 gives me an "incompatible cartridge" message and says there are no solutions availble.  Is there a work-around to this?
I am not very good at Windows 8....
Thanks

Hi Thaddeus,
Although the printer may resoponse to some commands, a supply memory error is an error state about the used cartridge.
Due the error message on the screen the HP AIO Remote recognize the cartridge as incompatible, that cannot be bypassed
with any settings, resolving the issue which cause the error message is the only key to resolve a such.
If the HP AiO Remote fails to print in such condition the only solution is to fully resolve the condition by following the steps listed in my previous post.

  • Aio remote doesn't work on windows 8.1, can't findprinter

hp aio remote on windows cannot find my printer.  i could tell it its ip #, but software disallows this, apparently assuming that sw is perfect and users are incompetent, where the opposite is usu true.  similarly, hp has no feedback mechanism and won't let me use support because mine expired a few mo ago.  so no way to tell hp they have a serious bug.  so it won't be fixed.  just throw out hp aio remote.  it's totally useless. it does have an install sw button, but my sw is installed, and i don't trust a program that can't find a printer nor tell if it's installed. i did download from hp website the latest full sw, which maybe includes aio remote, no way to tell, but no difference.  it also reports printer is offline when it's not. trying to download the latest aio remote seems impossible.  current doesn't tell me version or date.  new is not on hp web.  they refer me to windows store (without a link, tsk tsk), where i can find it (not in microsoftstore.com, but under windows.microsoft.com).  it says v55, no date.  can't download it because there's no download or install or similar button.  hp's concept of "install" seems different from microsoft's, because aio remote doesn't appear in uninstall cpl (named products & features to confuse users) nor 3rd party uninstallers. nor does the full sw.   there is an entry for basic driver sw, misleading us into thinking full sw not installed.  but it is, according to hp's proprietary noncompatible installation mechanism.    there seems no way to invoke aio remote directly (tsk, tsk)but dbl clicking the printer's icon in cpl devices and printers opens an interface with 4 choices, one of which is the non-working aio remote.  the other 3 work. (what's printing, prefs, and customize) it does work on android 4.x (name your own desert).  maybe it's not intended to work on windows?  they why distribute it? my serial # (in case hp reads this and wants to check it out) is th41f7104x and model # 7520e.  great printer.  full sw seems good, scan to pc, etc.  ews (embedded web server interface) works fine except security is unavailable.  hp uses a bogus certificate for its ews.  what's up with that?  presumably there's a way to get hp's cert and copy into my approved cert store, but if there is, i sure can't find it nor any docs.   and hesitate to experiment with security stuff, lest it lock me out.  i remember when even windows had docs. don't waste your time trying to get aio remote to work (as did i).  just use the ews, which remains unprotected from anyone on your wifi.

    Hello Lorenzo 1972,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes even after a fresh install with the error that it cannot find the iTunes.exe file. That path, c:\program files (x86)\itunes\itunes.exe leads to the 32 bit program folder for iTunes. If you are using a shortcut you had on the desktop pre install, try going to C:\program files\itunes\ and finding the iTunes.exe file there.
If not it sounds like iTunes may be installing a damaged copy of the 32 bit version of the application, so I would recommend the following article to help you get any old installation files out so you can install the 64 bit version fresh:

  • HP AiO Remote will not recognize scan and copy function of HP Envy 120 printer

Good morning! HP AiO Remote App is installed on my iPad4 and in the same WiFi network with my HP Envy 120 printer. The printer is recognized by the app and marked with a green led. When I tap on scan or copy in the app menu, it tells me that these functions were available in the app only for printers which provide these features. But HP Envy 120 has both scanner and copier. And last time it worked. Some idea what could have happened here? Thanks. UJ

Hi UJKarl, welcome to the HP Forums. You should be able to scan from the HP AIO Remote App on your Envy 120 printer. You probably just need to power cycle the printer, iPad and router to regain proper function.
Turn off your printer with the power button. Power down the iPad by holding the sleep button down until you get the option to 'slide to power off'. Then disconnect the power cord to your router and count to about 10, and then plug it back in. Once the router comes back online, turn the printer on. When the printer comes back online (blue wi-fi light stops blinking), then power the iPad back up. Try again, and it should work.
Let me know how it turns out.

  • Web console doesn't use 3rd party security cert

I set up a Mobility Service 2.1 server with a 3rd party public security cert.
The system authenticates through GroupWise 2014, set up via trusted app.
It works fine as far as mobile devices using the cert, but the Web console for the server does not use the same cert.
I've found nothing in the documentation outlining where the security cert for the web console is specified.
Anyone have any idea in what file this is defined?

    Yep -
You can also use the same mobility.pem file that you created earlier for
    securing the Web
Admin Console. To do so, do the following:
    1. Change to /var/lib/datasync/webadmin on the Mobility Service.
    2. Back up the existing server.pem file (cp server.pem server.bak)
    3. Copy the mobility.pem file that you created earlier into
    /var/lib/datasync/webadmin, and
    name it server.pem.
    4. Restart the Web Admin (rcdatasync-webadmin restart).

  • Working with a 3rd party router

I have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 and wish to use it rather than the gateway (3801HGV) that was provided. I realize that At&t doesn't support 3rd party routers, so I thought I'd ask here. The current setup is: Gateway>Netgear>devices. The netgear is connected as a DMZ port on the gateway. They also have separate subnets. Gateway is 192.168.1.x and netgear is 192.168.2.x. The Netgear has the ports open for Xbox Live. I have 3 devices on the network that don't seem to be working correctly. Two of those devices are TV receivers (wireless and wired) and the other is an Xbox One. The wired receiver and Xbox are connected to a Gigabit switch over by the TV. The TVs freeze and say they lose connection even though they show 10-30 seconds of the channel chosen. The Xbox is having issues keeping connected to party chat. Games and other apps work properly. To work on some troubleshooting, I connected the cables that go to the TVs to the gateway and the TVs are working properly, but I would like everything to be run through the netgear. I'm not the one who plays Xbox, so I am not yet able to test. Is there anything I can do to configure the Netgear or the gateway to allow all devices to be routed through the Netgear? Any help is appreciated.

As my thoughts has said, AT&T doesn't support sending IPTV traffic through a third party router.  If you have a third party router that properly implements IGMPv3, then you may be able to do so, but understand that AT&T doesn't support it. I do not believe your router falls into this category anyway, so it's a moot point.
The symptoms of running your IPTV traffic through a router that doesn't support it is exactly what you've experienced, you get picture for 10-20 seconds after a channel change, then it's lost.  I'm guessing that your issue is that you have only one Cat5e cable run between where the RG and router are and where a TV Receiver and the Xbox are and you need to run traffic for both over that same wire.  Options are (a) get a Wireless Receiver, (b) use two VLAN with tagging capable gigabit switches to send the tagged traffic over the single cable, then separate it out at the remote switch.

  • HP AIO Remote shows wireless printer offline when it is online and can print to it.

HP AIO Remote installed on my Windows 8.1 Yoga 2 shows my wireless printer is offline, when it is online and I can print to it wirelessly.  How can I get it to recognize my wireless printer is online wirelessly?  AIO Remote will only recognize the printer is online when the USB in connected to the Yoga 2.

    Hi rpmcintyre,
Thank you for the additional information.  I apologize for misunderstanding. I just want to confirm that the HP AiO app that you downloaded onto your Windows 8.1 computer is showing your printer as offline when you are able to print wirelessly to the printer.
I have two different documents for you.  The first one is How to Use the HP AiO Remote App for Windows 8.  It has a FAQ section at the bottom of the document with trouble shooting steps.  I have also included the Supported Printers for the HP Scan and Capture App.
If the above documents don’t assist you, would you please let me know which make/model/product number of HP printer that you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

  • Replacing the glossy screen with a 3rd party anti-glare or matte

I had my credit card ready to purchase 2 iMacs (finally rplacing our two G5's), until I realized that the anti-glare option with the 15" and 17" MBP would not be carried over to the iMacs. So I was wondering if anyone know of a third party with an option to replace the glossy screen with either a matte or an anti-glare screen. Would this void any warranty?

    Open letter to Apple:
Let me first say, I'm a long-time, loyal Mac user (and defender). My first experience with Apple was in elementary school - on the Apple IIE. I created a game using DOS code in grade 5.
My father was a high school teacher and brought home a Mac Plus when I was in high school. The "Paint" program that it came installed with initiated my humble beginnings as digital designer - even on the small black and white screen, with it's limited capabilities, I could see the potential. We were always a Mac family. When my mother finally retired, I talked her into getting the same 24" white IMac I currently have, because that way I could walk her through the setting up and use of it, and now we can skype each other and it's like she's here in the room with me, not a whole province away.
I even had a Mac as a single mom struggling as a full time Communication Design student at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. My young daughter and I lived off my student loans, but they weren't enough to buy a Mac, so I asked my dad to co-sign a student line of credit so I could get a Mac to be compatible with the computers at school. This was the only way I could take my homework home and work while my daughter slept. I sacrificed a lot to have a Mac. We sacrificed.
Skip ahead about a decade, I have my own small graphic design business, I currently have 3 Mac computers: I have a 24" white Imac as my main business tool; I have a titanium laptop for meetings and presentations, and a white Macbook laptop that my high school-aged daughter uses for school and socializing.
I am now at the point in my growing business that it is finally time to upgrade all of my equipment. I've been excitedly holding out for the newest Imac release. I went in to our local BestBuy a few weeks ago to buy my new 27" fully loaded Imac (hey I've worked hard, why not splurge a little?) As I walked up to the Mac display and finally laid eyes on my long awaited dream machine, all I could see was the shocked and betrayed look on my face reflected in the shiny surface of the screen. I nearly cried, I was so disappointed. All I could think was "How could you? "
What is the point of having the shiny screen? I feel so betrayed, so foolish, for sticking with Apple through thick and thin for nearly a quarter of a century. I have invested thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars in Apple products, peripherals, and MAC compatible software for all of my Macs. Adobe CS3, Microsoft Office, 3rd party applications, Mac compatible fonts, and even games. I have purchased protection plans, extra RAM, home insurance and back-up devices for my Macs. I was invested in you, Apple. So what now? Will my hard earned savings now go toward buying the new PC software needed to convert my business to PCs?
The graphics industry, for a large part, has kept Apple going all these years. We have paid the premium for our Apples, and we have just been stabbed in the back by Apple. On behalf of the entire graphic design community in North America, Apple, please offer us a matte screen option on all your new computers.

  • AIO Remote wont recognize my network printer deskjet 3050

AIO remote app (IOS) did not recognize my network printer (Deskjet 3050), other apps (printer pro lite) did recognize the printer flawlessly, both the printer and the iphone are in the same network, I can print from my PC and my mac but not from AIO remote app (not even recognize the printer).
    Can you help me?

    Hello MrCrysis,
With the Printer Pro Lite app working to printer, this is excellent to hear. Although this is not an HP app. So to explain as to why the AiO Remote app is not recognizing your printer, and not being able to scan. Your printer does not have AirPrint capabilities according to the 'HP Deskjet 3050 (J610) and 3050A (J611) All-in-One Printer Series Product Specifications'. AirPrint is a requirement for the HP AiO Remote app to work, and because the printer does not have AirPrint the app can not see the printer.

  • IPod Touch 3rd gen doesn't recognize episode numbers from TV Shows.

    I recently have this problem:
my iPod Touch (3rd generation, software version 4.2.1) doesn't recognize any episode numbers from tv show episodes. I numbered all my episodes in iTunes, then transferred them to my iPod, but when I scroll though my episode list on my iPod, the episodes are ordered alphabetically, and they all have the notion "Season 1, Episode 0".
This applies to both TV Shows that already were on my iPod, and new TV shows I added to my iPod video library.
I never had this problem before, and as far as I know, I didn't change any settings on my iPod or iTunes.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advance.

If you paid by credit card, contact the bank handling this payment
and ask that it be stopped since the provider did not actually do
anything to the computer and you are suspicious of their actions.
If the billing was added to a phone account, contact the vendor of
that service to dispute the charges against you; and cite concerns
of security, identify theft, privacy and of being scammed.
You may have to fill out forms, and see if the credit card bank will
refund or not; usually they mail them to your billing address, after
you call the bank customer service. Some are better at than others.
This could take some months to resolve, if you paid that way.
They may also have installed (or had you remove security) while
inside your Mac and its system software, remotely. If they were
able to 'scan' your Mac remotely, they may have harvested any
personal or financial information, including passwords saved to
online accounts that may have been in browsers or keychain.
On another track, complete repaired Macs of an older vintage
are not very expensive; even ones from companies who repair
them or those who have stock of repaired units...
While checking for a friend, online I found a few portables that
had been repaired and for sale by a company whose business
is to repair almost all portable Apple computers, in-house.
You can buy an early model guaranteed MacBook from reputable
repair companies with limited warranty for under $400. and that
includes a bill-of-health with an option to buy a longer warranty
for a little bit more. Or just mail in your computer in a flat-rate
postal carton with padding, to one of the well-reputed repairers
    directly. They perform a physical/software hands-on diagnostic
& repair service, tell you before they fix anything what it will cost,
what the price variables are when they do hands-on testing; as
that is a real repair. An example: wegenermedia.com online.
The Apple support site has links to the better known AASP
authorized Apple service providers, and you could look up
the ones nearest your City & Country in the Locate section.
Blue links below require additional info once in their Site to
access the Authorized Apple Service Providers who have
an actual physical presence, where they offer services..
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
Apple - Find Locations - Country Selector:
    https://locate.apple.com/country
Contact Apple Support - Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Some independent providers may be in a situation to do more or
even less, than an Authorized service provider. Some may just
repair computers -- and not officially be affiliated with Apple...
Best to do the necessary research before committing to repair.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I have a PVR which supports DLNA connected to my home network.  I want to access files on my MacBook from the PVR.  I understand that my MacBook doesn't support DLNA. Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA?

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me please.
I have a Personal Video Recorder (Humax HDR-1010S), which supports DLNA, connected to my home network via Wi-Fi.
I want to play music from iTunes and view photos from iPhoto from my MacBook (which is also connected to the home network) via the PVR / TV / Home Cinema sound system.  I understand that my MacBook (running OS X Mavericks) doesn't support DLNA server.
Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA server?
    Thanks,

My recollection is that the iPhoto library has some fairly robust protections to prevent inadvertent or even deliberate changes being made that might have unwanted consequences. I'll take alook at my setup and let you know if I can see anything that might help you. Even if you get Serviio to "see" the iPhoto library, it almost ceratinly won't show the album structure and names. What I did is to export each iPhoto album to a standard folder with the appropriate folder name. These I keep on an external backup disc and Serviio can see these without trouble.
