HT5312 what if my rescue email is no longer accessible?
i'm trying to purchase itunes match since i have loaded the new itunes on my mac. i have been asked for security questions which i dont have the answers to. my rescue email address is no longer valid and i dont have access to it. PLEASE HELP! how do i reset my security email?

A rescue email is an email address that you can set on your account which can be used for resetting your security questions if you forgot them (following steps 1 to 5 half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from would give a reset link on your account for them). If you don't have a rescue email address on your account and you forget the answers then you would need to contact Supportin your country to get them reset, you wouldn't be able to reset them on your own.

How do I reset my password and my security questions - if the apple system insists on sending all messages to a rescue email address that is no longer accessible and won't let me change the rescue address?
If you don't have access to your current rescue email address (you won't be able to change it until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

I'm presently having the odd problem that, if I enter a "rescue email" that is the same as the email address already attached to my AppleID account, I get a blocking error message that the email address entered is already in use by another account.
If I just leave the "rescue email" address field blank, I can submit and proceed just fine.
Let's just say that my initial impressions of AppleID/iTunes security (and their effects on basic usability) are pretty bad... -

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.
