  • All in One Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax Recommendations

    Hi,
I'm looking to purchase an all in one printer/scanner/copier/fax device. I was wondering what recommendations other people have. The main purpose would be to print photos, scan photos and some small business office printing. Note, a fax would be nice, but is not absolutely neccessary.
Scanning photos would be important, since I plan to scan our family's photo albums into iPhoto.
Also, is there a printer than can communicate with the Mini using bluetooth? If so , does it work well?
Since I have limited desk space, size would be an issue (smaller the better).
Looking to spend about $200, slightly more if the cost justifies itself. Less is always better.
    Thanks in advance!

    The Brother MFC-420cn
    http://www.brother-usa.com/MFC/ModelDetail.aspx?ProductID=MFC420CN
does everything you ask for less than $100 -- except bluetooth.
The Pluses: Good Mac software. Cheap ink. Networkable.
The construction is flimsy plastic, but if you are gentle it will hold up.
    Definitely small footprint.
Paper path is 180 degrees, which is not my preference.
Personally, I prefer Epson all-in-ones. Also good Mac software and 80 degree paper path for less jamming. Exceptional scan quality.

  • My server keeps telling me that I have an update for 10.10.1 and that I should look for it in the app store. I do that and am not finding anything that makes the update notification go away. I have installed an update the app store says I need.

I updated to Yosemite on my Mac mini/server. Then my server wouldn't work. I updated and bought the software needed when updating to Yosemite. The server seems to be working. Subsequently I've started getting a notification on the server icon that an update is needed. When i look for details I'm instructed to go to the app store. I've done that. In the updates category no update is found by the app store system. I then went to the purchases category and was informed I needed to install the server software I'd purchased. While I'd installed before, I did it again. I still have the 1 in a red circle covering part of the server icon. I have restarted the mac mini. I can't figure out what step I'm missing. The continued presence of the red circle suggests that the software still isn't installed. Looked into restarting the server in help but don't find clear instructions that make sense. Suggestions from someone who has a mac mini server and has worked with this topic would be greatly appreciated. General comments from anyone who has not looked at this kind of problem before might turn out to be unenlightening for this neophyte.

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • I have a Hp Officejet Pro 8500A plus. Installed a wifi ampl, cannnot connect my pc tot the printer

Since I installed a wifi amplifier in my house my laptop can not connect to the printer anymore, even though it says it is connected, when I start to print it says it is not connected.
I tried a lot. Shutting down the printer, put the driver of the printer again on my laptop etc.

Hey there @dapperedottie , welcome to the forums
I read your post about how your wifi amplifier is not allowing you to connect the printer. I have a video about extending wireless network range that might help.

We have a new OfficeJet Pro 8620 that we just set up in a remote office. The user connects via vpn and rdp to another desktop in our network. When we connect he cannot print. • Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?

Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?
I had a very difficult time getting my new HP Officejet Pro 8620 functioning as well as it does now.  I just tried scanning something as editable text for the first time and it ended up being scanned as a pdf.  At one point in my various tries there was a note on the printer screen that I did not have the HP OCR software installed.
This may be because the resolution to my installation problems with the HP Officejet Pro 8620 seems to have been reverting to operating with the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package instead of the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg installation package.
I do not, therefore, have the HP Scan application on my computer now which is where HP says its OCR software can be found.
So what I'm afraid of is that I'm now running well with the HP-Apple driver but if I do go back and install the HP Officejet Pro v12.32.0 driver software with the HP installer, in order to access the OCR softwware in HP Scan application, I'll mess up everything else.
Is there any chance that the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package I have installed also includes OCR software?  If so where can I find instructions for activating it and using it with the HP 8620's scanner?
Or can I only get OCR capability with the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package?
Any experience with this?  Should I leave well enough alone?  Or can I somehow install the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package without messing up my current functionality?
    Thanks
    Steve

The printer driver that is installed automatically from Apple doesn't scan. The scanner part can be accessed through Image Capture, but I don't think that does any OCR on the scan. You'd need a separate program. As you noted, many of the bundled software programs have OCR built-in (albeit limited). From my experience, that is only activated when you scan to "searchable" PDF or something similar. You would then have to extract the text from the PDF.
I don't have an HP printer/scanner, so take this all with a grain of salt.
If you can just install the Scanner utilities, that shouldn't affect the printer portion.
Your other option would be to purchase separate OCR software. Unless you need to scan lots of documents into text, you should further investigate installing the HP scan utilities.

  • My 8620 HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer IS INCREDIBLY SLOW TO PRINT - TRIED EVERYTHING

I have an 8620 HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer It is connected via wireless set-up, with excellent signal strength. It is incredibly slow to print anything, especially PDF files that have graphics in them. I have the latest software installed, latest firmware updates. I have even uninstalled and re-installed, the issue is still there. This is an incredibly crap product, so I'd like to get this issue solved ASAP. Thanks,Brian

For example: printing http://www.nytimes.com/images/2015/07/04/nytfrontpage/scan.pdf Quickly goes 7.03mb/of 7.03mb... then just swirls the "printing" status on the printer's LCD screen, and takes 5 minutes to print...

Thank you. In fact, I did speak to a very friendly and helpful representative at HP. Bottom line, I returned the printer to Staples, where I bought it, and they happily gave me a new printer in the box. After I set it up and use it for a few days and will report back IF I experience a similar issue. For now, I am VERY pleased with both HP and Staples.Thank you. [Smile]

  • Officejet Pro 8620 won't print from microsoft or thunderbird

I have installed the printer drivers for my new OfficeJet Pro 8620 and am not able to print from Microsoft Word or Thunderbird.  I can print from Google Chrome.
I am running Windows 7 and have already reinstalled the printer software several times.

    Hello @dmcairns,
I understand that you're having printing issues with MS Word and Thunderbird on your Windows 7 computer when printing to your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now you mentioned that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail. I do believe that because you can print from certain programs on your computer that you are experiencing a driver conflict with those two programs. To resolve this issue, can I please have you run through the steps below.
I am going to have you load an alternate driver on your printer. This will not cause you to lose any functionality at all. You will not notice any difference in the performance of your printer or the capabilities. The only thing that should change, is the fact that your printer will be able to print from every program!
    Step 1: Clear Temp files:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box located right above Start when you click on it, type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
Select 'delete' on your keyboard. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files as they are just temporary internet files. Should a file still be used by a program on your computer than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' the file.
Once the Temp folder is emptied, close the folder
Right click on your Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin
    Step 2: Download Alternate Driver:
Please click here to download the alternate Officejet driver package
Once the website opens, select the Download button
    Allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete, an extraction will automatically occur and then the installation will pop open. Close any installation window that opens.
    Step 3: Add Alternate Driver:
    Click on your Start menu
In the 'search programs and files' box type %temp% and hit enter
When the Temp folder opens you will see a folder that starts with 7z.... Click on that folder to open it
Scroll through this folder and ensure that it has files that start with OJ860 files in it. You do not want to see OJ862 files. Once you verify that you're in the right folder with the OJ860 files in it, look at the top of this folder and you will see the file path. It should show something like 'local disk C - Users - Username - AppData - Local - Temp - 7z. . . .  Left click on the right hand side of this file path bar and everything will highlight. Right click on the highlighted file path and Copy it.
    Close the Temp folder
    Click on your Start menu
    Select Devices and Printers
Right click on your HP Officejet 8620 and left click on Printer Properties
    Select the Advanced tab
Select 'New Driver' and hit 'next' until you see a list of Manufacturers on the left and a list of Printers on the right.
Select Have Disk on the bottom right. An 'Install from disk' window will pop open. Right click on the file path bar and Paste in the file path we previously copied.
    Select OK
Select the HP Officejet 8600 and hit next
When you're brought back to the Printer Properties window, select Apply but don't hit OK
Click the General tab and rename your printer back to Officejet 8620
    Select OK
Please try to print from a few different programs to verify that everything is printing properly now.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums. I wish you luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8620 (Wireless Network) will not install on Win8. 1

Today I received my new HP Officejet 8620 PRO printer. I have setup Wireless Network access, and installed the Driver successfully on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit PC, and tried to do the same on my Acer Win8.1 Laptop. During the installation, it finds the Printer on the network at the correct IP Address (192.168.178.48) and goes as far as a dialog showing "Network Printer Installation" with a Green progress bar cycling but never progressing ... I have left it be for over 45 minutes, and have tried to cancel the installation, with the same problem. Now the setup is jammed, and cannot progress. Suggestions please!!! Not sure what more relevant information is required ... so I'm open to questions ... which I'll try and answer ... or (preferably) suggestions on how to fix this. Many Thanks for your anticipated support.  p.s. HP ... I find it ridiculous that I can buy a brand new printer and yet have to revert to Public Forums to beg help! (or pay an exhorbent extra fee to get telephone support)

I would suggest cancelling the installation and then download the diagnostics at http://www.hp.com/go/tools.  The tools there may help diagnose system issues, if nothing is found I would suggest running the driver wizard. Depending on your country the warranty would typically be one year from date of purchase.  Likely if you were charged (or an attempt made to charge you) for support on a new printer you were not contacting HP.  Unfortunately an internet search for "HP Support" will turn up a number of locations that may pretend to be HP but are not.  The diagnosis there is typically "you have malware or a virus, we can fix that but it will cost $149" (or perhaps $349 for a lifetime).  I once gave one of these folks access to a dummy test machine, after an hour accessing my system and suggesting various fixes I made it clear that I would not be buying anything from them.  At this point they attempted to encrypt my system drive (after warning me that if I did not buy their product my system would likely be unusable).  Fortunately the system was set up to require an admin password to install programs or do "bad" things.... If you need to contact HP start at the link here: http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8620 has stopped printing from Mac OSX.

I bought my HP Officejet Pro 8620 less than 6 months ago. It started making a grinding noise as it printed. Then it said it was low on cyan. Then it stopped printing because cyan was depleted. I bought new cyan today. I put that in and it now says "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. If problem persists, contact HP." I have tried many suggestions for over 2 hours. I opened the carriage and looked for paper. None. When I tried to download software, it said "something bad with your device. Device is in error state and cannot be reflashed because of this. Resolve the problem and try again."
I have tried to use e-print but ended up keeping usb connection.
I can't touch the printer panel because it is stuck on "Printer Failure" and no areas are in view to start over other than turning the printer off and on by switch, by unplugging cord. How do I resolve the problem? Thank you.

Yes, after an hour online following time on the HP online site, the technician's Hardware Supervisor said I needed a new printer. Thanks for your answer.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8620 Shifted Margins when printing

The only problem I find when printing paper is that the margins are always shifted. The margins of the paper on my PC display Is different to when Officejet Pro 8620 prints the paper. I tried printing with borderless on, but the margins are either to close to the top of the paper; I also tried printing with borderless off, but the margins shifts way below compared to the paper on the computer display. My older printer HP Officejet 4500 wireless has a "minimize margins" option, and the printer always prints exactly as it is on the display; however, it is no so with my newer Pro printer. I tried going to advanced options and clicking on preserve layout, which is available only when doing 2-sided printing, and the margins were still shifted; there are pictures on the bottom that can show you. I looked around preference options of the printer, paper setup, printer properties, tried readjusting settings, but the problem is persisting. I do not want to go any further, or else I might screw everything up. Additionally, the problem is not with the copy settings of the printer, I looked there too and the margin shift is turned off. Please help me find a solution. I use this printer to print books, and I need to finish it ASAP, thank you for your support  Printed Paper Page 1: Printed paper margins are shifted slightly higher, compared to PC display paper   Printed Paper Page 2: Printed paper margins are shifted down, compared to PC display paper   Paper Displayed on Computer: Observe the top margin distance from the top of the screen

For the first question: Yes, when I print multiple page copies in 1-sided or 2-sided format it makes margin shifts. 1-sided printing margin is shifted down for all pages. 2-sided printing margin shifts up for odd pages and shifts down for even pages. This would mean it's something in the hardware that is causing the shifting.  HP regularly releases firmware updates that may help. You can click on this link to Get Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro. I would also check for crumpled paper inside the printer. All of the steps can be found here, but I copied the main step for you. Check the carriage path for obstructions with a flashlight;Place your fingers into the slot on the left side of the printer, and then pull to open the cartridge access door. Wait until the carriage is idle and silent before you continue.Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer, and then unplug the power cord from the power source or electrical outlet.Use a flashlight to check for torn pieces of paper that might remain inside the printer.
