"... iMac Computer.sparsebundle" is in use.  Try ejecting the disk.

Since 2/4 my backup won't complete.  When I open my time capsule I get the message: "The disk image "Stephanie's IMAC Computer.sparsebundle" is in use.  Try ejecting the disk image.
What does this mean and how do I eject the disk image?

This is a very complicated and difficult "fix"
Step 1.....Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Step 2.....Count to ten
Step 3.....Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
Wait a few minutes, and try a backup

    IS THE SITUATION HOPELESS
I used Target mode to transfer files to a new i7  iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from an older Dual core Intel machine (EMC 2105) also on 10.6.8. but originally Tiger 10.4. The operation was successful and I ejected the disk icon from the new machine and powered down the old machine. When this was restarted the next day there was a grey screen with flashing Mac symbol alternating with a 'no entry' sign and occasionally a question mark.Keyboard and mouse were unusable so k inserted the original instal disc (No.1 for 10.4. with installer 1.0.4) which came with the machine in 2006 in an attempt to boot from this. The ensuing window said this was not possible and now it cannot be ejected.I have tried everything ! It offers Disk Utility and other options like Terminal but that doesn't work either.I 'repaired disk' and that was pronounced o.k. None of the various keystrokes at start up will work, and the computer will only offer the installer disc continually. The only option would seem to be is to erase the hard drive completely from the disc in the machine.I don't want to do this as there is still material which I need to recover. I think the drive has in some way been corrupted by using it in target mode, and I don't know if there are any other options to try.
Please tell me how to get this disc to eject !

Have you seen this type of problem before? I think it could be a serious issue for anyone in a similar position.
No; but then, I've not had occasion to use TDM. I've been using firerwire drives for over 10 years, both FW400 and FW800, with no issues except a bit of instability using a B&W G3 machine.
TDM should be safe. Using cautious, manual copying of files from the Target machine to the Host machine should not result in unexpected loss of files or damage to the Target drive's directories. It should behave exactly the same as if it were an external (to the Host) firewire drive.
    •  I don't suppose there is anything I can do to 'put back' lost items from a separate Time Machine drive which has an up to date backup on it.
There is probably a way to do that - seems to me that's one of the reasons for a Time Machine volume.
On the other hand, if the Time Machine volume is rigidly linked to the now-absent OS on the original drive, there may be no way to effectively access the files in the TM archive.
I know that using a cloned drive would work well in this instance.
I have no experience with Time Machine, so perhaps someone who has will chime in with suggestions.
With the machine in TDM with the other machine, have you tried running Disk Utility to see if you can effect repairs to the drive?

I have an MacBook Pro 10.6, using disk utility I tried to verify my disk, but it came up with the message, please use your start up disk, I tried this, starting the computer up and pressing C, but it ejected the disk, the same thing happened while I running the computer. Is the hard drive damaged as laptop doesn't seem to recognize the start up disk ? If so, I presume I will have to put in a new one.
There haven't been any problems with the computer, apart from a sticky curser,I have run a permissions programme from disk utility, there were a lot of different ones, but it seem to be able to fix them.
    Any comments or ideas ?
    Thank you in anticipation.

First backup your users files off the machine to a external storage drive (not TimeMachine!)
    Most commonly used backup methods
Next to startup from the disk, have it inserted, hold c or option/alt (wired or built in keyboard) and then boot the computer and or select the disk when it appears and click the arrow.
Disk Utility is under the Utilities menu on the second screen.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
If you used the wrong 10.6 disk, it will spit it out or have issues, use the one that came with that machine or if it's defective, call Apple for a new one.

  • Used the wrong install disk and now it wont eject the disk

Alright I know that I'm an idiot but I made a boo boo.
I have a G4 powerbook (newer one with the superdrive) that needed a new hard drive. I changed the harddrive no problem but heres my problem:
I went to install the OS and I have a new MacBook, and I accidently put the disk for the MacBook in the PowerBook and now the Powerbook wont give it back! It doesnt have the little spot to stick a paperclip in and it gives you the cd back.
Obviously the computer cannot boot from the MacBook disk and I've tried EVERYTHING to get the disk to come out. But since the disk is mounted and is what the utilities are running off of it wont eject it.
I would open up my powerbook again and try to pry out the disk but i dont want to run the computer or the disk.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

"I can try this my only concern is that the disk utility is running from the boot disk and i have a feeling it wont eject the disk if the utility is running off the disk."
You may have a point there. That's why I recommended the Firewire, Target Disk Mode. I know it works. At least, that's the way I've always gotten out stuck disks. And in my case, most of the time, it's been when I've reformatted a drive and it has no startup volume or OS to startup from.
So, if you have a disc in there, it will not spit it out. (Not saying that other's suggestions won't work to do so).
Starting up in Target Disk Mode bypasses that function, booting up, so while it's connected to another Mac, it doesn't need the disc nor will it access it while on.
You might be able to do your own suggestion. But the external CD-ROM drive will have to be connected via FireWire in order for the Mac to recognize your installation disc as a startup volume. (Also, make sure installation disc is not a DVD as opposed to a CD... most installation discs in the latter G4 era were DVDs, if I'm correct-- especially Tiger).
In that case, when you startup, hold down the OPTION key so that you can choose which install disc to startup/boot from. Just make sure you choose the one that's in your external optical drive.
P.S. Did you HOLD DOWN the mouse button when starting up? You can't just click on it. Once you turn the Mac on, hold down the mouse button until the disc comes out, and don't let go.

  • "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.pkg" is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image.

After 3 different downloads (2 in Safari, 1 in Firefox) I still get this message when I try to open Lightroom package: “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.pkg” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should eject the disk image. I have a feeling it has to do with 3rd-party software on my Mac OSX 10.8.2 - how do I get around that?

If you have already tried an alternate web browser then your next step would be to try an alternate Internet connection.  Perhaps try a wired connection if you are using wireless for example.

Try cleaning the lens and see if that will restore functionality to the DVD drive.  Use a DVD lens cleaning disk, if you have a can of compressed air, shoot some into the slot or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eyeglasses cleaning cloth)  around a business card and insert it gently inside the slot.
If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and get a free diagnosis from them.

  • Idvd ejects the disk during the "multiplexing and burning" / "writing lead-in" portion. When I check, there's nothing on the disk

idvd ejects the disk during the "multiplexing and burning" / "writing lead-in" portion. When I check, there's nothing on the disk.

What brand and type of disk are you using?  What speed are you burning at?  Are you able to create a disk image of the project?
    Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

The optical drive has probably failed. It's a fairly common thing with these slim SuperDrives. Does it read any discs you put into it? You can try resetting the SMC and pram but I'll be surprised if it helps.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
