IMessage Sender ID

In imessage for the itouch, is there anyway to change the sender ID so its not the email?

No since that is how Messages works.

  • Help with iPad Identifying Phone Numbers in iMessage Send & Receive Settings / iMessage Syncing Help - iOS 6 - iPhone - iPad

With iOS6, iPhone and iPad users will see that their Send & Receive iMessage settings have updated across their devices to be made available at both phone numbers and email addresses. You may have also seen alerts on one or more of your devices advising that another device is now using the same Apple ID/phone number for iMessage.
Being able to be reached on iMessage on both Apple ID and phone numbers across devices means that iMessage can keep the same thread and sync across devices.
Due to having 2 iPhones on different phone numbers running along side my iPad at one time, (whilst I was waiting for my phone number to be moved to a new provider), my iMessage settings on my iPad lost my phone number completely. I thought I would document the steps to recover this for anyone in the same boat.
    1. Check that you are signed in with the same iCloud Account on both iPad and iPhone.
    2. Turn off iMessage on your iPad from Settings > Messages.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. You should see your phone number and your iCloud email address in the 'Your can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Make sure both are ticked.
    4. At this point, I synced my iPhone with iTunes, then synced my iPad with iTunes.
    5. On your iPad, turn iMessage back on - your phone number should now show in the 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Tick the phone number. You should receive an alert on your iPhone.
    This should resolve the issue.
With the above set up and with the iOS 6 updates, iMessage should now sync fine across devices however I have still found the most successful way to run iMessage is to always start new conversations from your Apple ID and to start new threads by addressing the first message to an Apple ID from an Apple ID.
To do this, go to Settings > iMessage > Send & Receive and tick your Apple ID in the 'Start new conversations from:' list, then start a new iMessage thread to the recipients Apple ID. This way, the thread will sync across iPad and iPhone. Note that a thread set up this way will not fall back on SMS, so you get a clean iMessage thread. This method also worked/works on iOS 5, as long as you send the first message of a new thread from an iPad (which can only send via Apple ID) to an Apple ID.
    Hopefully this helped someone!

ipad has no phone number, you use a same email address for both devices. and set it in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

    Hello Jesslb23,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps first
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you have registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you have selected iMessage for use. Learn more about troubleshooting iMessage registration if the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. Learn more about troubleshootingcellular data or a Wi-Fi connection if a data connection isn't available.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while on a call if your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you are still unable to send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Verify that the contact you are attempting to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact in the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • IMessage sending from my email?

I recently switched to an iPhone 6 (from a 4s) and ever since, if I text someone else with an iPhone it generally pops up on their phone as my email address, not my cell phone number. Anyone know why and how to change it?

It has always been this way.  The iPhone can use its phone number for iMessage and FaceTime. But other idevices have to use their Apple ID.
You can change to just your phone number in settings, iMessage, send and recieive.

  • HT3529 Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

Will iMessage send messages to non Apple phones? If so, is it automatic or do I have to keep changing settings?

If the recipient does not have an iOS device (or Mac) with iMessage activated on it, then it will send as SMS or MMS as appropriate. You don't need to change any settings.
The only time you'll run into an issue is sending to someone who used to have an iDevice and neglected to turn off iMessage when they got something else. They will have to address that so that you don't have to forcibly send messages as SMS/MMS.

    Hi there skmonirul,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
From what I gather, iMessages are taking longer than expected to send on your iPhone 4s. If you aren’t seeing issues with other apps, try restarting your iPhone as shown here:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If the issue persists, try restoring your iPhone as shown in the article below.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    So long,

  • IMessage sends from different email addresses

iMessage sends messages from different email addresses when it used to just say my name associated with my cell number. How can I change it back?

    Try this:
Sign out of iMessage on all devices. Sign back in on your iPhone. Wait until it is completely activated. Then, sign back in on the other devices using the same Apple ID.

  • IMessage send/receive failure

Is anyone else having trouble sending and receiving iMessages? The problem started a few days ago for me. When I try to send an iMessage it looks like it's sending and the status bar up top looks as if it's just about finished loading, but it never actually completes the delivery. I tried re-starting my phone several times..no luck. My friends are telling me that they sent me multiple iMessages, but I don't see anything on my phone. Strange.

Yes, iMessage setting is turned on. If it cannot send as iMessage it's supposed to send as a text, but I found that I have to manually do this each time. I spoke with some friends and they are experiencing the same iMessage send/receive problem.

  • Imessage send&recieve addresses

    Hey all,
I Have 2 iphones registered to the same user.
They obviosly have 2 different phone numbers and I want to get imessage on them separately.
If someone sends me an imessage to a phone number, I only get it on the appropriate phone as it should be.
However, if someone sends it to my email, it gets recieved on both devices.
I tried removing the email from imessage send&recieve addresses on one phone and keeping it on the other and that works - for a couple of hours.
After that, suddenly, the email is being added again as though it ges synced from the other device.
Is it a feature or a bug? Is it possible to do what I want?

  • Why won't iMessages send any of my photos? (iPhone 5, iOS 7.1)

    Hello!
I'm facing a little problem with iMessage. Each time I try to send a photo from my Camera Roll to someone on my contacts list using iMessage, it would say that the photo is "Delivered;" however, after 10-15 seconds, a red exclamation point will pop up on the side of the image I'm trying to send with the word "Not delivered" right under it. When I tap on the exclamation point, I am prompted to either "Try Again" or "Send as Text Message." I've tried both options, but only the "Send as Text Message" option works. I can send and receive regular messages through iMessage and I can receive photos from other people through iMessage, but I cannot send photos at all. SMS/MMS works fine. It doesn't matter if I am on Wi-Fi or 4G/LTE; I still can't send photos.
I checked out the following troubleshooting guide and tried some of the solutions, but still hasn't been solved.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
I did not play with any messaging settings, so I'm pretty sure that isn't where the problem is coming from. About two weeks ago, though, I tried sending 8 photos through iMessage all at once. The person I was sending it too never received the photos, but I did not get any red exclamation points. I deleted the 8 photos that my friend never received, but that didn't solve the problem either.
I am using an iPhone 5 on iOS 7.1 (11D167). Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Update for daveeede, amcelwee08, kirbalo, and everyone else who may have this problem:
I'm now able to send photos through iMessage to my contacts (both iPhone and non-iPhone users). It started working Friday night (April 19) when I went out; I was in a part of my city that I usually don't go to. I found a picture on Facebook that I wanted to share, so I tried sending it to someone with an iPhone 4S. Surprisingly, the photo went through on 4G LTE (the person I sent the picture to replied back). To see if this was temporary, I sent another photo the next day to the same person and to an old phone of mine through iMessage, but this time, I was using my home's wi-fi connection. The photo was received in about 10 seconds. I have yet to try if I can send photos through iMessage on my Mac.
I did not play with any messaging settings, but here are three things that I did leading up to Friday night (the night it started working):
    1) My old phone was a Samsung Mystic that had access to my Facebook account through ATT Social Net. I checked my Facebook settings and noticed that it was still connected to my account though ATT Social Net ended late last year. I removed it from my account.
    2) Those of you who have Facebook Mobile activated on your phones (text alerts for Facebook notifications), try disabling it by replying 'STOP' 326-65 or whatever number that informed you that text alerts is activated. Think of any other services that send you text alerts frequently. Try disabling some or all for a few hours then try sending a photo.
    3) I went to the official Apple support site on my phone, tapped on "Phone, Messages, and Cellular Data," tapped on "SMS, MMS, or iMessage not working as expected," tapped on the first option to send my phone's serial number and system information, and then entered my phone number (you can use email also) on the "iOS Diagnostics" window. A bar stating that it was getting information on the health of my phone popped up. I received a text message within a few minutes that gave me instructions on what to do next; I think I entered a verification code on the "iOS Diagnostics" window. Unfortunately, chat and phone help has a fee unless your phone is still under warranty. Thus, I couldn't get in contact with support. However, this was the last thing I did. I'm not sure, but perhaps sending information of my phone to Apple helped? Here's the site I went to:
    https://getsupport.apple.com/Issues.action
I ruled out that it isn't any type of hold of some sort on my ATT account. Initially, I thought messaging would go back to normal after my new billing cycle began, but that was not the case since mine starts every 12th of the month. It might be random, but not entirely sure. Is anyone else able to send photos through iMessage now?

  • IMessage sending messages from email not phone number/not working

I have an iPhone 5s and my sister has an iPhone 5c. She told me that my phone was sending her imessages from my email. When I go to change it to my phone number only it has it as a grayed out (will not let me select it). I turned iMessages off and then turned it back on and it still wouldn't so I tried it one more time now I get a "waiting for activation..." under my iMessage switched on. I tried turning it off, hard resetting and then turning it back on but when I go to sign in it says "server couldnt not be reached. try again" and it says that each time i try to sign in.
I guess my questions are: 1) do the imessage servers go down? 2) how do i 'activate" my imessages so it doesnt say 'waiting for activation"? 3) how do i make my imessages come from my phone number and not my email?

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so.
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    and on the iPhone:
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
    Then, on the phone, tap
Use Your Apple ID for iMessage
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test. If there's no change, you may have to wait for a change in network conditions.

  • IMessages sending to iPhone without data/wifi

    Hi all,
When I text my friend with my iPhone it goes through and says "delivered" however it is sending through as iMessage. My friend however has no data plan. I thought it was when she had wifi but the times I texted, she didn't and it still went through as an iMessage. I checked her settings and texts/messages only send/receieve to that number, and same with mine. When I send the message, I try and highlight the message to see if it will allow me the option of "sending as text message" but it sends right away, the message "delivered" comes up and when I highlight the message my only option is to "copy."
This has never happened before, only within the last two to three weeks. I don't know if it's an update issue but it's bugging the both of us. I tried the exact same situation with my brother who has data (and I put his iMessages off) and it will automatically go through as a text message. So now it comes down to me always having to go to my iMessages options and disabling it just to send a text to my friend which should regularly just go through.
    Any help is much appreciated!!

    Figured it out:
She recently enabled iMessages on her iPad. All the messages were sending there...but what still confuses me is that the messages went through even when she didn't have wifi on either devices...
ah well. I'll save that for another day. I've solved my frustrations lol. Thanks for the help!

  • IMessage sending from email instead of phone number

After 5 months of using my iPhone, my iMessage has switched to sending from phone number to sending from my email on the iPhone 5S (Software ios 8.1.3). I have already checked my settings, which state it should be sending from my phone number. In fact when I have deselected my email address as an alternate for iMessage, my messages will not send at all.  I have rebooted my phone as well as signed in and out of iMessage and iCloud. I don't know how to fix this issue, any help will be appreciated. Thanks

    Hey emdiers,
I see that you are experiencing a messaging issue on your iPhone. It sounds like you are unable to send SMS messages as well as being unable to send iMessages from your phone number, is this correct? If so, when you turn off iMessage, you will not be able to send any messages whatsoever. Have you found this to be the case? If so, this article has some advice on how to address this issue:
    Contact your carrier
If you can't send or receive SMS or MMS messages, contact your carrier to check your text messaging plan.
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
