Insert OLE w formula for document name

Hi, I'm still stuck using CR 8.5 and need to add a Word Doc to a report.  I can do it as an "insert OLE object". However, I won't be using the same doc file all the time.  The doc file name will be changing each time the report is run, so i need to add it as a formula.
I can't remember how to do it.  I did it once in CR 7 and I don't have access to it.
How do i add a Word Doc into a report using a formula to specify the file name?

OK.  I figured out how i did it in the past...
Microsoft Access - I added an ODBC link to the report to an external Access table with OLE objects in it.
Then on the main report i added the ACCES table via ODBC to get the ole object to appear on the report. 
This allows a report to have a dynamic, OLE object to appear based on data in the report.

  • Script for document name labels

    How hard would this be?
    A script that would type the file name into the document. I searched for similar threads but no luck. Here are the details...
    1. If the document was named TEST.pdf the script would type TEST in the document.
    2. The font color, size, and type would be Black, Arial Bold,  0.4 in.
    3. The font would be converted to outlines.
    4. A rectangle 0.05" larger than text would be placed around the text.
    5. The rectangle would have no fill and a 100% magenta spot color named "CC" stroke.
    6. The rectangle stroke would be moved to the CC layer (pre-existing layer).
    7. The text "TEST" would be moved to the Artwork layer  (pre-existing layer).

    Anton, this should be pretty close for a guide… I don't know what your exact font name would be… so this uses my closest match. Also you don't mention text positioning on the artboard/doc… The stroke is default 1pt as is. The height of the outlined text would be dependent on your font and you may have to tinker with the size where shown…

  • Window Arrange New Window for (Document name) is not creating a floating document? It works on my PC, but not my Mac (Mavericks).

    So I know this command is supposed to create that document in a new window and have it float ontop of the original document. It (the new window for the document) is supposed to stay in front of anything on the application frame, like the UI does. But on my mac it keeps going into the background when I click onto a different document. I don't know why it does that. This command works fine on my PC.

  • Insert Document name in Pages

    Is there a way to insert the document name as automatic text at the bottom of the first page in Pages? This was a simple "automatic text" script that Word has had for years. All of our documents are saved with names relating to what the document is and where it gets filed. Our paper filing/folder structure is pretty much identical to the folder structure of our file server. It is very convenient to have the name of the document printed at the bottom of the first page so that when it comes time to filing our hard copies, one knows exactly where to file it.
    There must be a way to script this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Automator isn't really the best solution to this. It's possible to do it with AppleScript, and granted, anything you can do in AppleScript can be put into an Automator workflow.
    There seems to be three possible ways to mark the bottom of the document:
    1) Insert carriage returns to position the very last paragraph (the name of the document) at the bottom. Drawback: if your document takes up all of the final page, then you'd have to create a blank page to accomodate the name. Also, determining the exact number of returns to insert isn't very easy.
    2) Put the name in the footer. Drawback: footers appear on every page, not just the last. You could create a separate trailing section, but that has a blank-page issue similar to #1.
    3) Create a text box at the bottom of the last page. Here's a little script that will do that.
    As for triggering the script, the simplest way is probably to use the AppleScript utility to enable the system AppleScript menu, and put the script in the Pages scripts folder. Then it'll be available whenever you're running Pages.

    Hello all - I appreciate your responses. Brooks - you are correct. That is exactly what I am looking for. From a filing perspective, that is an amazingly useful feature. I am going to check into the scripting path. If Pages is indeed scriptable, I would be shocked if there is not a way to provide this feature.
    Gerry - you are correct about the saving part. In Word, you must save the document first, close it, and reopen it before printing in order for the file name to appear.

  • For four days I have been unable to open a lot of documents. When I try I get a message "The document "name" could not be opened. You don't have permission. This has happened to an important letter which I corrected four times. My Mac has altered the name

    This problem began when I typed in an address http www etc., making one mistake in the address. I corrected it and then tried to copy the address because it was long (I wanted to be able to acces it another time), and that's when the trouble starrted. I just copt documents to get a new one because it's quicker, but it is unorthodox, I know. Since then whenever I copy a document i cannot open it, and it often puts a gobledegook ending to the document name. I've started emailing texts to myself so as to keep them, but I MUST be able to use documents normally. I hava a MacBook Pro, using OS Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I don't like it. It's fairly new, and has messed up my system of documents : the size is alll wrong and the tabulations are worse than ever. I use text edit because I wanted to use Macdictate because I am handicapped (arthritis and firbomyalgia) but I have never been able to get it to work. Since I changed OS I cannot use Text edit properly any more. Please help me. I think it must be a bug that came through when I was putting this address in four days ago. I went to the site once I'd corrected the address and it was perfectly normal. I shall ring them today and ask them if this has happened to anyone else. I live in France. Thank you for your advice. Because I am handicapped and I do not dirve, it is very difficult to get to a Mac store. I deleted Mac cloud documents because I don't want to use it and I thought it might solve the problem, but it didn"t.

    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane.     I get an error message in iPhoto when I click on thumbnails of pictures in certain albums. It reads 'the volume for "(file name)" cannot be found. Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the desktop, then try again.'  What does this mean and how do I fix it?

    It means that you imported the files in Referenced mode and have now remvoed them from the Mac. Put the disk or card back.

  • Set unique file name for document library in SharePoint 2013

    I have document library in the sharepoint 2013 with two dropdown fields-dept name,dept id.
    My requirement is to create a namiing convention for each file uploded in the document library.
    So the naming convention should be "deptname-deptid-filename-Id".
    I tried this naming convention using workflow as below-
    In this case ,first I attach the file and then it asks for dept name & id,Whwn i input these value,it shows error message as this file is modified by you at this point of time.On cancel it saves the attached file but does not save the deptname and dept
    id.
    please help if any idea or suggestion.

    The only way I've ever seen this work while adding a new file is to use an Event Reciever.  Build an Event 
    Receiver that fires whenever a file is added and have the code change the name of the file from whatever the user titled it to the naming convention you are using.

  • Pbm with document name while generating URL for created document

    When we upload a document and generate the URL for that document, and then while we paste the same in the explorer window to access it, I was able to see the dialog asking me whether to save or open the document with the <B>actual document name</B>.<br>

    But, when I create a document using the template which we uploaded in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN, and then generate the URL for that document, and then when I paste it in the explorer window to access it, the dialog now asks me to save or open the document, but it is not with the name of the <b>actual document</b>, but with the name of the <b>template</b>. <br>e.g <b>Business_Blueprint_template</b>.<br>

  • KB fix for print document name in event logs on Server 2012 and Server 2012R2

    It appears as though the requested corrections to the documentation where never honored
    Note After you apply the hotfix or update, you can show the printed document name in the event by enabling a specific Group Policy.

    In my simple test, I see that the Group-Policy does exist on 2012R2 but not for 2012.
    I isolated the registry changes so I can update a 2012 only system... that text is below.

  • "Untitled" as default document name for new documents

    I have one installation of Adobe Illustrator CS2 in a Mac with which I have the following problem:
    Whenever I go to File->New, to create a new document, the default document name is blank, and it should be "untitled".
    Is there a way (without reinstalling) to correct this? (turn the default blank document name to "untitled" default document name, for new documents)

    On what Mac? If it's on a new Mac with Snow Leopard, I would guess it is one of those compatibility issues of new OS vs. legacy software. If so, you can't change any of that. Other than that I can only think of trying to edit the document templates...

  • Please choose a document name so the destination name is different for the different input files.

    I loaded a folder into Bridge, of files which I intend to reduce to 800 px using one of my own custom actions.
    Please note that I have done this successfully numerous times in the past.
    I go to tools/PS/batch/set:margie's actions/action:reduce to 800
    Source: Bridge
    Destination:Folder
    Choose/new folder/I name folder/create/choose
    The folder name shows after users:users name:desktop

    The problem is in File Naming. After I type in Document Name a name totally different from the folder name/OK,
    If you use an action for resizing based on existing filenames it is not needed to change the document name but just leave it as it is so the files will be save resized and in the folder you have chosen/created.
    When you need to have an addition to the filenames just leave the first field with document name and change the second field (default: extension) to whatever you wish and as last field choose 'extension'.
    e.g.
    field 1: Document Name (If you leave this as it is it reflects the current filename)
    field 2: document name (fill in an underscore "_")
    field 3: 3 digit serial number (adds 001 and further after the underscore)
    field 4: extension (either lowercase or uppercase depending on your needs,I prefer lowercase, but don't change the field name. This puts the existing file extension at the end)
    The example field that is showing above the option fields is a bit distracting because it keeps showing 'MyFile' but that is your existing filename.
    Personally I have a save as to destination in my actions recorded to dedicated folders with the resulted size and I simple run those actions without creating a folder in the batch window, just select the dedicated resizing action.
    When done I move the result to a new folder using Finder, it is just another way of working but the above given example should also work for you.

  • Error in Fast Formula for Supplemental Earnings Elements

    Hi,
    I have an requirement in Supplement Earning Elements for US Localization. I need to define some Supplement Earning Elements that should comes in Payroll with the extension of existing Elements.
    Here are the Steps for setups which i have done so far-
    Step 1:Created new Elements with their values with effective dates for existing user Table name
    Step 2:Done the setup for New Elements with classification as Supplemental and Category also attached the formula like "FLAT AMOUNT" formula for Calculation rule in Element Earning screen.
    Step 3: when i tried to query for the element i have created, the value in Calculation Field is "Elementname_FLAT_AMOUNT_RWSI" which is not same for the existing elements.Existing Element which is of same classification and same category the Calculation rule field is "ElementName_FLAT_AMOUNT".
    Step 4: After that i did setup for Element Description and Element Link.
    Step 5: Then i have copied the Formula from Existing element(which is previously configured and working fine for the existing elements ), made the modifications for the newly created element. When Compiling the formula ,i am getting an Error "Incorrect Data type"
    I have two queries -
    1- The setup in Earnings Screen with Calculation Rule is correct or not. As the Calculation Field for newly elements and the existing elements are different (as mentioned in Step 3).
    2- Compilation Error "Incorrect Data Types" in Fast Formula.(as mentioned in Step 5).

    Hi Pradeep,
    Hope you created the new element using the 'Earnings Template' form. If it is created using the 'Earnings Template' form then the calculation rule
    should be correct. You said you are modifying the new element formula by using the existing element formula code, have you checked if the
    formula code to the old and new once have changed anything other than the element name and standard input elements reference. Try to use
    the debug messages in formula and see if that give you any clue. You should find the document in metalink how to debug a formula.
