Insights into customer question re: 876 Cisco Router?

  • How to create custom GUI interface for Cisco router?

                       Hello,
    I am working on a Cisco solution and I have my router configured for the solution I need. However, if a non-cisco person needs to use my solution then I think he will need a GUI interface which will have few "buttons" which when clicked will run some Cisco commands on Cisco router to make it work. Is there a way to design such GUI interface which is compatible with Cisco routers? I know Cisco has SDM, but that is too involved and detailed, which is useful only for people who know atleast a little bit about Cisco. Here I am looking at crowd who will have 0 knowledge of Cisco.
    Please let me know if something like this can be done. If yes, how and how easily?

    There are lots of ways to do this - you can use SNMP or even HTTP to push or pull commands from Cisco devices. How easy it is to create a GUI depends on your programming skills. I would guess a simple web page triggering backend scripts would be the easiest way to do this.

  • Not able to telnet or ssh to outside interface of ASA and Cisco Router

    Dear All
    Please help me with following question, I have set up testing lab, but still not work.
    it is Hub and spoke site to site vpn case, connection between hub and spoke is metro-E, so we are using private ip for outside interface at each site.
    Hub -- Juniper SRX
    Spoke One - Cisco ASA with version 9.1(5)
    spoke two - Cisco router with version 12.3
    site to site vpn has been successful established. Customer would like to telnet/ssh to spoke's outside ip from Hub(using Hub's outside interface as source for telnet/ssh), or vise versa. Reason for setting up like this is they wants to be able to make configuration change even when site to site vpn is down. Sound like a easy job to do, I tried for a long time, search this forum and google too, but still not work.
    Now I can successfully telnet/ssh to Hub SRX's outside interface from spoke (ASA has no telnet/ssh client, tested using Cisco router).
    Anyone has ever done it before, please help to share your exp. Does Cisco ASA or router even support it?
    When I tested it, of cause site to site vpn still up and running.

    On this case on the ASA, you should have the following:
    CConfiguring Management Access Over a VPN Tunnel
    If your VPN tunnel terminates on one interface, but you want to manage the ASA by accessing a different interface, you can identify that interface as a management-access interface. For example, if you enter the ASA from the outside interface, this feature lets you connect to the inside interface using ASDM, SSH, Telnet, or SNMP; or you can ping the inside interface when entering from the outside interface. Management access is available via the following VPN tunnel types: IPsec clients, IPsec LAN-to-LAN, and the AnyConnect SSL VPN client.
    To specify an interface as a mangement-only interface, enter the following command:
    hostname(config)# management access management_interface
    where management_interface specifies the name of the management interface you want to access when entering the security appliance from another interface.
    You can define only one management-access interface
    Also make sure you have the pertinent configuration for SSH, telnet, ASDM and SNMP(if required), for a quick test you can enable on your lab Test:
      SSH
    - ssh 0 0 outside
    - aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL
    - Make sure you have a default RSA key, or create a new one either ways, with this command:
        *crypto key generate rsa modulus 2048
    Telnet

  • Do you need a cisco router at remote sites when using VRF BGP?

    If you could refer to the attached document and read the following... I need to know if a CISCO router is required for each of the sites.   OR does the ISP (Provider) provide the only required Router in the private cloud?
    We want to replace the Cisco 891 with a PepLink but I don't know if we can do that.  Can anyone jump in and help me understand?
    When we hear about VRF, its almost synonymous to MPLS VPN. Virtual Routing and Forwarding is commonly used by Service Providers to provide services within an MPLS cloud with multiple customers. The most interesting feature of this is that, VRF allows creation of multiple routing tables within a single router. This means that overlapping use of IP addresses from different customers is possible. Some enterprises use VRF to seggrate their services like VOIP, wireless, geographical location and other varieties.

    Whether you can replace the 891 device with another device boils down to a single question: Do you need to run BGP with the Service Provider in order to use their service. If you need to run a routing protocol with your service provider, your service is likely a L3VPN (IP VPN) solution ( i.e. you inject your site's routes into the providers L3VPN session, they use MP-BGP+VRF for segmentation within their network).
    If, however, they just drop you a L2 connection and provide L2 emulated services ( e.g. L2VPN or VPLS ) across their network, then your device can be whatever you want it to be.
    From your device's perspective, it is not VRF aware. That is, it does not know about how the service provider segments your service from another customers. In the L3VPN case, your device is routing-protocol aware. In the L2VPN case, your device is not routing protocol aware and does not need to form adjacency with the service provider's equipment.

  • Problems connecting to a Open Network via Wi-fi on Cisco Router

    Hi everyone, I know I'm new here but I'm in need of your help, so if you can assist please do so as I cannot live without wi-fi and might have to go back to my nokia again if I can't sort this out.
    Vodafone finally released the Iphone on their network in Ireland today and I've picked a 3gs up straight away.
    At work I have a wi-fi network with a CISCO router (I have no access to the router as only IT do and they won't change anything to satisfy me and my Iphone anyways). This network has no encryption whatsoever and its free to join, you don't need any password or anything. My nokia at the start couldn't connect as it said that the network needed a pre shared key, this isn't true and in the end it was just change a setting to no auth required for it to log into the network and work perfectly.
    Today I got to work and the Iphone can't connect to the network, just says it can't join the network. I cannot find anything about authentication on the settings of the phone nor can I work around this at all. I've had a Ipod touch for (the 2nd gen) for over 2 years and I gave up trying to set it up at work because I just couldn't find what was wrong with it, I ended up almost not using it other than when traveling or on the gym.
    So first question is there any way I can access the authentication settings for wi-fi connections on the Iphone? Maybe its just a little change that is needed like the nokia.
    Has anyone experienced this problem on a open network that they cannot join?
    Any other sugestions? Anything really?

    PS: I've also tried to install the Iphone configuration utility however I don't know how to access the profiles on the phone, anyone can help with this so I can try the profile I've created?
    I don't think it is going to work because the options available on the configuration utility are basicly the same available on the Iphone itself.

  • SRX Using DHCP on UNTRUST (BRANCH)-- Connected to Static VTI Cisco Router (HQ)

    Good morning Gentlemen, I need some advice.  I am primarily a cisco IOS chap, but have recently been delving into some JUNOS action.
    I cannot find an example on the Juniper Forums/Documentation or the Cisco Forums/Documentation to my specific Issue.
    Firstly, I am not interested in Policy Based VPNs.   I do not know if it is possible to use a DHCP assigned public address on remote device with a "static VTI" - when using IKE identities. However as Phase one is up, I think the issue is more to do with Phase2 proposals when not explicitly defining a Tunnel destination.
    In the scenario I am trying to sort now, I have an SRX-100 device, that gets its public address from a DHCP server.
    I have back at the HQ, a cisco router.  
    The Cisco router has various VTI tunnels out to other branch devices, that are smaller Cisco routers. These VTI tunnels are working fine - note all using static Public IP's 
    I have my phase1 up fine, (from both sides' perspective) and am sending a local-identity hostname instead of a defining a destination address on the Tunnel on the cisco side.

    Does Dynamic VTI work with Different Vendors, and if so how can you control what VRF is assigned to the tunnels - I will need in the future multiple VRF's for each branch device, some using DHCP public addresses.
    The VTI design guide does not mention Identity IKE for branch sites without using dynamic VTI.  
    I would like to avoid using the whole easyVPN / dynamic VTI, as I need to use multiple VRF;s on the endpoints.

    Perhaps this fellow has cracked it - is this the only way ???

    Hello Malai,
    This question is subjective, I mean you can check the statistics on the CSC module for logs of the users going to blacklisted sites.
    You can check the CPU for the ASA's and IPS.
    You can monitor the amount of traffic traversing the interfaces of the ASA, you can determine witch host is using most of the bandwith,etc.
    Its pretty basic administration stuff

  • Cisco router interface threshold

    Hello,
    I have a question about getting threshold information out of a specific interface. I have a customer with DSL on a cisco 887 router.
    This customer has 2 different pvc's on the ATM0 interface, 2 dialer's (1 for voice, one for data) 2 vlan's (1 for voice, one for data).
    What I would like is that the cisco router wil send me a message that only the voice dialer or voice vlan has exceeded it's threshold limit.
    I can configure this with the "rmon alarm" command, but then it isn't specific for the voice dialer, it gives me info on both the dialers.
    I also tried it with SNMP traps, but this isn't "real-time"
    Does anyone know if there is a different solution to solve this?

    When I download something from the internet it only shows the interface bandwidth usage stats every 5min. I'm not getting any event messages to my Zenoss server that a threshold has been reached or anything like that.

  • How do I set up my hp laserjet printer through Cisco router?

    I'm using my HP Laserjet 4000TN printer for my entire network.  I need to be able to use it with all my computers.  So I usually plug it into the modem via Cat5 cord and it grabs an IP address which I add in System Preferences and I'm good to go.  However, I recently had to change my network.  I now use a DSL modem as basically a dumb hub.  Which then goes into a Cisco 800 series router.  From there I need to be able to plug my computer into that router and then see it on both of my computers.  (What's the point of having a home network if you can't print from it from any computer on the network?)
    I was told to assign it a static IP address of 192.168.7.5.  However, when I do this on my computer it doesn't seem to be going through to the printer.  Whenever I try to print a test page it does not work.
    It is grabbing IP address 192.168.7.22.  However, when I enter this as the printer on the computer it is also not printing a test page.  Very frustrating.  I am unsure if this is the perfect forum for this as obviously it's the Cisco router that has changed and therefore it's not really a Mac issue.  But I am unsure where else to turn.

    I found the solution.  I was using WEP encryption and I needed to be using WPA encryption.

  • THird Party PO Scenario - GR into Customer Consignment Stock

    HI,
    In a Third party scenario, is there any possible way to post the GR into Customer consignment stock ?!
    In std SAP,
    PR is generated from Sales order and the PO is created w.r.to the PR.
    PR & PO will have the acct assignment ( sales order) and item category (third party).
    during GR,  we can't see the stock in the system. because the GR is statistical one since the stock is directly deliverd at customer place.
    But in the current world in our case,
    the stock is delivered in an external warehouse, from where the goods will be delivered to customer at a later point.
    we want to track the stock in external warehouse. so, we want to have this as the "customer consignment stock". ( we may have this as a SLOC and from there we can transfer to customer consignment stock. but there will not be any link for the sales order and this customer consignment stock and moreover during GR we are not updating the stock...)
    SO here is the question,
    how can we update the stock during GR for Third party order( as far as I know, we can't define new item category).
    If we are updating the stock during GR for 3rd party, then we may find a way to post it to the customer consignment....

  • R12 - Approach to Insert into custom table after payment is done

    Hi,
    I have a requirement to insert into a custom table after invoice payment in R12. Code units are already in place to load data from ap tables to custom one.
    I have identified 2 ways in which this can be done:
    1. Call from the business event oracle.apps.ap.payment
    2. Call after the program 'Send separate remittance advice' completes, again as a business event after the concurrent program completes i.e. to use 'Request Completed' business event.
    My questions are as below:
    1. Is there any other way in which I can write to a custom table after payment is done
    2. How else can after report trigger be fired for SRA in R12 (without customizing the standard SRA java conc pgm)
    3. When exactly business event 'oracle.apps.ap.payment' will be fired? Will it be fired for all payments irrespective of the way payment is done like thru PPR, payment workbench, etc?
    Please share your thoughts on this.

    in our case, we have created a database trigger on IBY_PAY_INSTRUCTIONS_ALL, to insert the requisite data into custom tables whenever the payment status is "Ready for Printing"

  • Time Capsule and Cisco router

    Will Time Capsule work with a Cisco Router E4200 that is connected to a Worldbook NAS?
    I do not need it to serve as a router, only a sytematic backup solution fro all of our Macs in the network.  We use the NAS as a company client File store and share internally to our staff.

    The TC can be bridged and plonked into the network with no problems.
    Decide how you will treat wireless.. you can handle it several different ways.. but completely off might be best. Or if you are buying a new AC model, then turn off the wireless in the E4200 and see if the TC works better.
    Or if you have some ethernet cabling.. place the TC in wireless dark area and set it up in roaming profile.
    That means you set the same SSID=Wireless name. Same Security WPA2 AES = WPA2 Personal. Same password. But lock channels on both devices.. make sure each is as far apart as possible.. so for example for 2.4ghz wireless set one to channel 1 and the other to channel 11. For 5ghz similarly set them sufficiently far apart that there can be no overlap.

  • How to setup Guest Network Name in Cisco Router

    Hello everyone!
    The first. Sorry my english =)
    I want tald you how to change guest network name in cisco (what have different name)
    What we need.
    1. Cisco Connect for Mac OSX (i use snow leopard and Cisco Connect for E3000)
    2. Terminal
    Okay. Let's go.
    1. Install Cisco Connect for OSX
    2. After setup - slighty setup your cisco router (give something name and password), then, when cisco connect say you "You now connected the internet" and going to main screen - exit from cisco connect
    3. Open Terminal (Or you can use Finder (go to Application, show package content Cisco Connect))
    4. Go to /Application/Cisco Connect.app/Contents/Resources/lcid/<your setup language, for english - go 1033>/
    5. Edit resource_strings.pus (vi resource_strings.pus)
    6. Change "-guest" in string <LocalizableString RcFileId='10019' BaseTextHash='0xA65E286D' BaseText='-guest'/> for something what you want. For example, i changed for ' Guest Network'
    7. Save
    8. Open Cisco Setup
    9. Go to router configuration and change desired name. I changed to 'Grizlly Bear'
    10. After setup name - go to Guest Setting and Enable. As you can si, your guest network name set as 'Grizlly Bear Guest Network'
    11.Exit Cisco Setup
    12. Go to web interface setup
    13. Setup Wifi manual and change SSID for diferent names. I change 5Gh to 'Grizlly Bear Hi-Speed Network' and 2.4GHz to 'Grizlly Bear Main Network'
    14. Setup your hostname for all services (fileserver, media server, etc)

    In order to enable Guest networking, the AirPort Extreme must be configured as your "main" Internet router. In this configuration, Connection Sharing = Share a Public IP address. The Extreme would be connected directly to the Internet modem and NOT downstream of another router with NAT enabled.
    In this configuration, the Guest network would provide access ONLY to the Internet and NOT to your LAN.

  • L2tpv3 dialing from cisco router

    I have requirement where customer wants ip dialing to LNS from cisco router with the help of l2tpv3.
    Could anyone tell me how to configure this.

    ppp pap sent-username password 0 41003827
    pseudowire x.x.x.x 2 pw-class netvision-l2tp
    crypto map VPN_MAP
    where x.x.x.x is a public ip address
    ip route x.x.x.x 255.255.255.255 g0/1
    completes this solution where this g0/1
    sh run int gi0/1

    description CONNECTION TO CABLE MODEM

    and it receives a private ip address from DHCP on a cable modem access network.
    but it uses l2tpv2 not L2tpv3 and I've always seen l2tpv2 in this context.
