Installing DevSuite 10 on Win98

Hello everyone,
I am trying to install the Developer Suite 10 on Windows 98, and when I start the installer, I got the message:

Somebody can tell me how to solve this?
Thank you in advance.
Miquel.

Thank you for your answer. This is the developer suite, and I though this could be installed on win98. I have installed Oracle Database Personal Edition 9i, and It works fine. Now I just want to practice my lessons with forms and reports, being able to connect to my oracle personal 9i (stand alone).
Thats why I want to install the Developer Suite 10g, but if this is not for win98, can someone tellme wich version of developer suite could I install in order to practice oracle forms and reports and eventually all the other applications of the suite?

  • Java 1.4.2 install problem on Win98

    Hello!
I have the following problem: I downloaded JRE1.4.2 offline version (j2re-1_4_2_05-windows-i586-p.exe). When I try to install in on Windows98 the machine gets stuck. I see the following message:
I see that all the files are extracted successfully.
"Finishing installation. This may take several minutes" Or something like that. The progress bar does not show any progress. The system hangs completely (even does not react to keyboard). I waited about 20 minutes and then reset the system. I tried installing several times (first uninstall previous version completely throung "Add/Remove programs"). By the way, there are no problems with uninstalling.
Another question - why the JRE installer does not ask me where to install the jre. It installs to "C:\Program files\". I heard that Windows98 complains if the file name contains spaces, but I have no choice :(
    Thanks in advance

I wonder that nowbody from Sun would help the users. If JRE didn't work on the Users machines the will not use it!
I have similar problems since I reinstalled win98se.
For me it's impossible to install any JRE Version. I tried 1.3 and 1.4 (different Versions).
Some times I got an error message within the installation process, sometimes not.
Overall Java doesn't work at all!
Would someone from Sun so kind to find out what the heck is going on?

What is your Windows 7 edition (eg: Home, Professional, etc) and is it 32 or 64 bit? Also, which version of the Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) 10g are you installing? What are the steps you are following to install ODS?
Technically, ODS 10g is not certified for installation on Windows 7, however, it can be done successfully. The key is your preparation. Follow these steps and your installation should succeed:
    1. The ODS 10g installer can't read System Managed Virtual Memory (VM). Alter your VM settings to specify a specific amount of VM. See this Microsoft article if you need help with changing the VM: Change the size of virtual memory.
    2. The ODS 10g installer also checks for a specific version of Windows so your installation will fail because Windows 7 is not recognized by the installer as a valid version of Windows. To work around this, you need to "Right-Click" on the setup.exe and go to the compatibility section and set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 2.
    3. Lastly, you must run the installer as an Administrator. To do this, "Right-Click" the setup.exe and select the option to "Run as Administrator".
After doing these three things, your installation should succeed.

  • Oracle 8i installed under Win98 using JDeveloper

I have sucessfully installed 8i for Win98, but I am having problems setting up local dayabases using NET8. Can anyone offer any tips?? I want to use JDeveloper to Access databases locally using JDBC

    Hi Jim
I was able to get Personal 8i up and
running. When you start your session
you first start up the listener pgm
    then mount the database correct?
I have been able to use SQL navigator,
PowerBuilder, and SQL Plus to create and
mannipulte DB tables, procs and other relational objects. Make sure the Listener is up and running and that the TNSNames files has the correct instance name.
If you want I can send you copies of my
listener and tns names file as an example.
It took me a week + to get it working and I'm not really sure how I did it! Also, I thought JDeveloper for 8i was only available
under NT. My email is [email protected]

    Hello,
Is your PC connected to a network ?
There is a restriction with the "default discovery mechanism" (multicast)
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_conf.htm#CHDDDFEI
You can test to switch to the other "Discovery Mechanism" : the namingservice

  • Personal Express 6.3.4 on Win98

I downloaded Personal Experss 6.3.4 to my computer and installed it on Win98, but everytime when I want to start Personal Express, it always had error messages like following:
Module Mgr - sxsLoadLibrary failed on module c:\OraHome1\olap\pex634\service\xsoci.dll.
(in the personal log file PEXEvent.log).
Could anybody tell me what's wrong and how I can solve this problem?
PS: I made the same Installation on Win2000 and all is ok. No problem to start personal express and the client tools.
    Thanks.

You're probably missing some library that xsoci.dll is dependent upon. There's a utility depends.exe that would tell you what you're missing. See http://www.dependencywalker.com/.

  • Tomcat in win98 - please can anyone help??

I've been trying to install Tomcat in win98 for the last couple of
    days....
It now seems to run OK when I do startup and shutdown, but it won't
display the homepage on localhost:8080. I get HTTP 500 error when
Tomcat is running (and a 'page cannot be displayed' if it's not). And yes the port number is right.
Can anyone think of anything I can try, please?

    IT WORKS!!!! Well, sort of.
I tried the final combination of Tomcat 3.2.3 and my original JDK1.3. Before, I had been trying to set environment variables in sysedit, but when I just put JAVA_HOME and TOMCAT_HOME at the beginning of Tomcat.bat it did the trick.
Sweet Tomcat index page! But then only about half of the jsp and servlet examples work properly - some only give http 500 error and some of them kind of half work. This is the kind of thing that happens (running 'Date')

  • FX5200 TDR-128 Win98/SE Boot Problem

    NEED HELP ! Quickly !
I have purchased a MSI FX 5200 TDR-128 VGA card.
After I put it in the AGP slot the system wont boot.
This happends on Win 98 SE OS. Everything stops when Win 98 logo appears, or some moments earlier (I try with restart several times - black screen C:\).
I have Detonator Drivers 45.23, installed with previous VGA card. Logicaly, this is the same drivers (or almost same) like the MSI VGA Drivers on MSI "support" CD's.
I'm sure that problems is in something "connected" with MSI VGA, not in rest of hardware.
    Why I'm sure ?
Because on same PC, with OS WinXP Pro SP-1 everythings works FINE !!!
I'm very disappointed in this MSI product.
P.S. I try same VGA on two others PC with Win 98 SE, with almost same hardware components lake below. SYSTEM WONT BOOT !!!

p.s. i tried to rename smartdrv like "ricin" suggested, it made everything work very slow, and windows won't open correctly until i renamed it back (tried it before installing the nvidia driver)
Perform a clean boot like this:
    1. Boot into Safe Mode.
    2. Go to Start > Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without quotes), click OK.
    3. Checkmark "Selective Startup" and remove the checkmark from all the fields that you see there.
    4. Click the "Advanced" button and checkmark the field "Limit memory to" and add "512" in the MB field.
    4. Restart and see if it will go boot to the desktop. If it does, replace the checkmark in one field only in the msconfig utility and restart. Repeat until it hangs again. This narrows it down to where the problem lies.
Actually, Win98 and Win ME is cabable of reading 1GB of memory, so once we've solved your problem, you can replace the 2GB that's you've got so that you can use it in XP and simply prevent Windows from finding it by changing the setting from 512MB to 1GB in the Advanced field.
Have you tried running the program that you want to use in Win 98 in XP "Compatibility Mode"? More info here
