Internal Damage Nokia 928

So today I had dropped my phone two feet which caused it to have an internal damage line on the left quarter of the phone and made it impossible for the touch screen to work. So the phones current state is just broken and unable to work because the touch screen will not work at all. When I went into Verizon I was told by the man that I have no warranty with my 2 year contract and the ONLY way I can do something is by buying a new phone at FULL price and adding it to my contract. Now I am in college and I am paying for everything on my own so buying a phone for 500+ dollars plus fees is extremely hard on my budget. So I am thinking that since no other options were given or mentioned to me that I should just cancel my contract with Verizon and switch to AT&T and get a phone for contract price. Unless anyone here has any other options for me?

Your other options would be to purchase a used device from a third party either locally where you are or through a site such as Swappa, Craigslist, or eBay.  Or possibly a friend or family member.
Note that if you cancel your Verizon contract, you will be responsible for the Early Termination Fee (ETF) which will be $350 minus $10 for each month of the contract that was completed.

  • Nokia 928. Latest win 8.1 software. Can not get MMS / picture / group messages

MMS on my Nokia 928 use to work. After an upgrade is doesn't work (? - could be a coincidence it happened after an upgrade?). I get the message "Get media content now."  Tapping on the link doesn't do anything.  Doesn't matter whether I'm using wi-fi or cellular data. If I go to Settings > Cellular+SIM > SIM Settings > add MMS APN, the fields are blank. At the microsoft support site it says to save your settings, but it doesn't tell you what these settings should be. The fields on this form are APN, User Name, Password, WAP gateway, WAP gateway port, etc, etc.   Should this form be filled in? If so, what are the settings?
I need both picture messaging and group messaging. Right now it is broken.
    Joel

HFGuy, We certianly know the importance of ensuring your MMS is working properly. Let's look into this. Do you notice this error occuring when you are connected to our 3G/4G LTE network or Wifi? Are you receiving this error message when trying to send MMS or receive? Also, can you please confirm the current software loaded on your Nokia 928?

  • MacBook Pro dropped on concrete, potential internal damage?

I have had my MacBook Pro for only 40 days, when it accidently and violently fell onto the concrete. I might add that in all the years I have had laptops, never once have any of them fallen! Anyway, I was at a coffee shop and the table top was not locked in place, which of course, I did not know beforehand. I placed my coffee on the table, no problem, but as soon as I put my laptop on it, the table top fell down 180 degrees, and everything on it went flying. My MBP crashed to the ground, and the coffee spilled all over it. Devastating!
    The good news:
    1. the coffee did not get anything wet inside the laptop. Not the keyboard, speakers, screen, ports, etc...the battery was also saved, as some kind and helpful on-looker ran over and immediately pulled the battery out, telling me that removing the battery is the first thing to do if you ever spill liquids on the computer. Inside the battery case, everything was dry as well.
    2. After I dried everything and put the battery back in, mbp started up just fine. No weird sounds, the screen is fine, webcam OK, everything is working GOOD.
    The bad news:
    1. A lot of physical damage to the MBP. All 4 corners have dents and/or scratches, the hinges on the latch to open the computer are bent, the button to pop open the laptop is compromised, so I have to press it a few times to get it to open. In addition, the piece of metal above the open button is sticking out, and I can press it in and out, so it no longer makes a flush seal. This is not good.
    2. The right hand corner is slighter higher than the other 3 corners, so it doesn't sit on surfaces perfectly balanced anymore.
    The dilemna:
    - Could there be internal damage? Would this damage show up on a diagnostic test, OR, could it not show up, and then 6 months down the road, my laptop suddenly crashes?!? Is the exterior damage indicative of what might have happened inside the computer?
    - The establishment where all this happened is taking full responsibility, but they normally will only pay for repairs in cases like this. I, however, want a new mbp. It is only a month old, and for the money I paid, I do not want a refurbished computer. I got an estimate for the physical damage, and it is around $800 bucks. This is not including any potential internal damage, or even damage to the webcam, which is in-between the 2 hinges that are pretty much broken. Even though the webcam is working now, could it have some kind of damage that would cause it to malfunction in a week? 2? 6 months?
I was hoping someone can advise me on what to do, and if anyone else have ever dropped their mbp's who either had or didn't have problems thereafter. I am new to Mac's, so I don't know how advanced they are in terms of how the internal structures are made. Should I fight for a new mbp? Or, is repairing it sufficient enough?
    Many thanks in advance!

It really is a horrible feeling when you catch out of the corner of your eye, a glimpse of your precious MacBook Pro plummeting to the floor. I know.
It happened to me when the velcro on my carrying case (made for laptops) suddenly came open and my MBP fell from my waist, to my driveway.
    It hurts. I know.
Like you, my computer started normally, and everything works. but its not really a beautiful, sleek macbook pro like it used to be. It took some damage. Not to the extent you described with all four corners damaged.
With mine, the casing is completely off line now. A laptop is basically two pieces that join with a hinge (obviously) well now that hinge is bent so that the top and bottom pieces are no longer flush and even.
The biggest issue I have is the fact that before I dropped it, all I had to do was barely tap the latch release button and the lid would pop up and make it easy to open. Now I have to use two hands to open my laptop. One to push that button in allll the way. and another to separate the lid from the base. It doesnt pop on its own anymore
its something small, but I miss it.
I too was worried that in a matter of days I was going to see things stop working properly left and right. To this day, everything operational wise works good. Im thankful. But it hurts to look at the back and see that small but painful dent.
I had a friend that dropped his and broke a fan. got the fan replaced and now it works again.
I wish the best of luck to you. Obviously you know that Apple wont give you a new one, but its cool that the buisness is owning up for that faulty tabletop.
I completely understand you wanting a new one as opposed to a repaired one. Maybe you should talk more to the owner about how there is so much that could have been damaged from that fall because its a laptop. They are very fragile and thats the bottom line. You could have it fixed and more things could come up later. Explain to them that if they agree to pay all repair costs, they could in the end, end up paying more then a new one would cost. It may be a lost cause depending on how strong they are on their policies, but you were screwed by that bad upkeep in the shop. Coffee shops are meant for laptops. Its completely 100% their responsibility to fix this situation until you are satisfied.
Im not really sure, but you may be able to demand a replacement. These laptops arent cheap. And it ***** worrying about what could break on your laptop tomorrow due to someone not paying attention to their establishment.
anyway, best of luck to you. I hope you get it taken care of soon. My best advice is to try and get enough from the coffee shop to replace it.
Oh and one more thing....from my experiences, you should have no worries about the word "refurbished". My MBP was purchased refurbished because my buddy who works in the apple store explained to me that I was saving a lot for a computer that was practically brand new. the only reason mine was refurbished was because the guy who bought it apparently asked for glossy screen, and they gave him matte. So he had it for a few days before he returned it to them. But just because he opened it up and touched it and tainted the 100% new finish with a minor wear from just setting it on the table, they have to call it refurbished. I got it for hundreds less. and its a wonderful machine. Tell them to consider that and see if they will go for it.
    again, best of luck.

The only choice you have is accept it as it is or pay for a replacement

  • New Nokia 928: touchscreen unresponsive

Hi. My new Nokia 928 arrived today and the touchscreen is unresponsive. All I can do is get the "get started" button to appear, but the screen wont respond at all. I've tried a soft reset, but can't try a hard reset because you need the phone to first be oof and I can't turn it off (unless there is a way to turn it off without hitting the power button and then swiping down?) Any tips?

Its a common issue that has an easy fix...usually.
Power button + Volume Down for about 20-30 seconds.  This will power down and power up your phone.  I havent really found a pattern to why the dead screen happens (its happened about 3-4 times in the past 5 months) but I turned down the display sensitivity from High to normal and that seem to calm it down a bit.  I also keep my screen clean from excessive oil and grime.
    Hope that helps

  • Does anyone know if iPhone 5s can suffer internal damage after dropping, without noticing?

I just drop my iPhone 5s (not much, though) let´s say 3,5 feet.. It looks normal, but I thought that maybe the damages might be internal.. Does anyone know if this model is internally resistant to drops or hits? thank you

Any device can be susceptible to damage, if it hits hard enough. Part of it is the amount of protection the device has, part of it is the force of the strike, and part of it's just random or individual.
If you're prone to dropping your device, I would recommend investing in a protective case. As for internal damage now, you won't know until symptoms begin presenting themselves.

  • Nokia 928 issues

Hello, I am new here so I'll keep it short and sweet. I got my Nokia Lumia 928 about 5 months ago. Towards the 3rd or 4th month I have been experiencing some weird issues. First, the phone's screen sometimes freezes. I just reset it by holding the volume down and power button down and that fixes it. Another thing is that whenever I plug it in to charge the phone takes longer and longer to recognize that it is charging, about 5 or more seconds. Also today for the first time the entire phone froze, including the 3 buttons in the bottom. I reset it the same way I do for a screen freeze and it was fine. Is anyone else having these problems? If so, how do I fix them?

hi mate, have you checked that you are up to date with the phone firmware and that you have the latest Nokia system app updates from the Store? also check that your microSIM is cut correctly and there is no damage to the SIM tray.

  • How to get contact list from a damaged nokia 6303

My mobile phone get some physical damage - the display was broken. Now he dont get on at all. I managed to get him connected to my computer.
After several repluggs of the data cable the computer finally found him. Now i have a connection to it, so it worked to copy files via total commander. Now i got (from the importatnt stuff, not counting music and photos i had stored on the phone) some files (a file without and  format with the name "qf" and a "rm443_conpack_conf.cnfp" ) and a folder (cities) with files in format .cdt and .cfg
i would like to save my contact list. Dont you everyone now, if any of this files is the contact list? and if yes, how do i get to open it?
tried nokia PC suite, but however it can find the phone, it still writes "connnected in a non-compatible mode" and nothing is displayed...
if someone knows, how to help me, thanks

you could try a few ways, not sure which will give best success:
Copy the contacts from 6233 to the SIM and then move the SIM to the new phone (assumes both phones are from same network operator or one of them is unlocked), then copy contacts back from SIM to N79
Install latest PC suite, backup 6233 to PC and then restore just the contacts data to the N79
Run the Switch application in the N79, it might be able to pull some content off your 6233
Send the contact as "business card" via bluetooth to the N79 (not sure if there is a 'select all' option in the 6233 contacts application.

  • T43: Internal Damage after Drop?

I have a T43 which was properly cushioned inside a high-quality Samsonite computer bag, which I was carrying over my shoulder when the strap became unhooked. The bag, with the T43 inside, fell around 2 feet onto the ground.
On inspecting the T43, there is no apparent physical damage, and it seems to work perfectly. The only thing that is bothering me is that when switched off, and I shake it gently side to side, something internal is making a clicking sound, as if there is some loose element or device inside.
I can't remember if the T43 always made this noise when gently shaken or tilted from side to side, and so don't know whether I've caused some damage or whether (for example) this is the motion detector that is supposed to auto-park and protect the hard disk from damage if the unit is dropped while working.
Do other T43s click when gently shaken/tilted, or have I broken something?
    Brian

Well it's easy to rule out the hard drive and dvd, remove them and see if you still hear the click. I would also remove the battery at the same time to rule out another component. If the click's still there then it's not those parts.
The process of eliminiation, by the end of tomorrow you'll have your T43 completely stripped.
Another thought, I actually experienced a case of this, is there maybe half a peanut or something stuck under one of the keys?

  • Internal damage by knocking on screen?

    Hello everyone,
I wanted to know if there are any delicate parts directly under the screen that if per say, a large impact hit the iphone and the screen does not have any problem, might the insides be damaged? or is the distance of the glass from the internal screen quick a distance away and wont be affected by the vibration?

"The hollow sound one gets on knocking / tapping on the iphone screen center is extremely nerve-wrecking lol, i feel like im spoiling the phone"
It does not read as though you're spoiling the phone, per se. Reading your post it seems as though you're purposely trying to break it. The iPhone is filled with sensitive components and, striking it so you can hear the sound it makes, does not make any sense.

  • Physical internal damage after being hit?

    Hi,
First, I apologize for not searching very thoroughly to see if this issue has already been addressed. I found a string about kernal panic after physical damage, but wasn't sure if it really applied to my situation. I am at work, so it makes it difficult to spend a lot of time on this personal computer issue.
My son hit my PowerBook G4 yesterday with his fist (on top of the CD/DVD slot and near the bottom of the keys - lower right of the keys) and now it almost freezes when it is on - I get no time, etc. in the upper right display and everything is extremely slow - so slow it almost doesn't do anything. I wait several minutes for it to recognize that I have clicked on a pull down menu, but I can still shut down, restart, and go to some utilities, but, again, that is all unbearably slow. When I tried to repair disk permissions, I got an error after a long time (I can't remember what it said - I think it was something like it timed out and/or lost the connection with the hard drive) and when I tried to run MacJanitor, it just froze in the middle of the process, so I cancelled it. My computer has been shut down ever since.
If anyone knows anything about what I could try to do to fix this, I would greatly appreciate any input.
    Thank you,
    Heather

Yeah… a restraining order for your son!!
What I would suggest you do is get out your installation CD/DVD and run the Apple Hardware Test before continuing.

  • Help? Nokia 928 - Software update doesn't show?

Hi, i've been searching through all the support forums and FAQs but can't find my solution to my problem. My phone in "extras + info" says I have a software release for Lumia Black, but I can't find it anywhere. I do already know that my phone is suppose to have it from this picture down below...
    Title      My phone
Could someone help me with where to find or how to update to this? If you need more info, just ask. Thanks in advance if this is resolved or not.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Go to "settings" -> "phone updates" -> "search for phone update".
Then your phone starts to search for an update. If something's available it'll ask you whether you'd like to install the update. Make sure you'd have at least 70% of battery charge available before you'll start updating your phone.
Another possibility is to use Nokia Suite. Connect your phone to your computer and search for an update.

  • Nokia 928 receives texts but won't display them

2 weeks ago everything was great. I put phone on airplane mode for 2 weeks while offshore. Wi-fi only. Got back into port yesterday. I have great signal. I turned off airplane mode. I can make calls. BUT when I send or receive texts, they don't show up in a thread in my standard text messaging app that came with the phone. To be clear, if I choose a pre-existing text thread and send a text, the text vanishes instead of appearing in the thread. Then the intended recipient receives it normally. If someone sends me a text, if I am looking at my homepage (with the tiles/icons) I get my text notification and a banner appears at top of screen showing the first few words of the text, so I know I have received the text, but when I open the messenger, the text isn't there. This has been going on for 24 hours now. The only text I've received that have actually displayed in the messenger are the two I got from Verizon when I set up this account to ask this question.
    Any advice?

        Hey IDescribe!
How bizarre. But, you need not worry any longer as we'll be sure to get those phantom texts back in your messaging bucket.
Now, I'd like to thank you for the great details so we can already scratch off a couple of steps. The first thing I would do, since you just arrived back on land is to remove/reinsert the SIM card for at least 60 seconds so as to refresh your device with the network. When that is complete, please delete out all of your text message threads. And finally, to test, please send a text to yourself. Keep us in the loop on how this works.
