International Plan is a Prob

I just talked to someone at the 877 419 4500 number.
They said my particular transfer was hung up becasue I have an international roaming feature on my current plan that is not valid on the iPhone. Unfortunately, they have a different group that must remove the international features and they are currently closed. Becasue they cannot change the plan, they cannot change the equipment.
Hence, I am stuck until the international folks are open again--perhaps tomorrow, or Monday for sure. In the interim, at least, my old phone is working, so that is not too bad.
The other thing I might try is going into the AT&T store tomorrow to see if they can take it off.

I have international roaming and dialing on my AT&T account, and my iPhone was activated in less than 60 seconds. I don't subscribe to any international data though...I'm just billed at the standard $0.019 / kb rate when overseas.

Generally, yes. It's up to your service-provider and depends where you are going and which model you have.
For example, if you have a Verizon model, it uses a CDMA-based mobile technology that is not widely used outside the US (except for parts of Asia). If you have an AT&T model, there's GSM service pretty much everywhere on the planet.
That said, it's almost certainly cheaper to use a SIM (with the GSM models) from the country you are going to. You can get various prepaid ones.
For example, AT&T charges $15/mo for 2GB of data service at home, but $20/mo for 50MB Internationally -- the international plan is more than 50x as expensive as domestic data service.
A little research on the Internet will turn up some pre-paid data SIMs for your desitination that are compatible with a GSM-model iPad.

I need to get a receipt for the international plan I added while in Canada for my expense report...where can I find this?

My family and I will be going to Mexico in Sept and I was checking out the inter.add on plan.24.99/month.I want to know if anyone has this plan or has had this plan in the past? No, but HE will need to be sure he can call and text internationally (from Canada). You will still be in the US, making and receiving calls to and from a US number (his cell) so nothing changes for you.
Since he will be "roaming" or using international towers, he'll need a plan to cover that or pay the international rates... AT&T can give him what it will cost for their network.

My iPad not working in Bahamas - International Plan Purchased any Ideas?

I have the 64GB/3G iPad and I've purchased the international data plan while I was in the states.
I can not get 3G working on the iPad while the 3G on my iPhone works fine.
Any Ideas?

Studying abroad in London for 4 months - international plan

I'm going to be studying abroad in the UK for 4 months starting in January. I want to be able to use my iPhone while I'm abroad, in the most cost-efficient way possible. I've looked at the AT&T World Traveler Plan that is $5.99 per month, and 99 cents per minute. 99 cents per minute seems ridiculous! Is that plan in addition to the basic U.S. iPhone plan that I have now or does it take the place of my current plan?
I've read stories here on the discussions about people getting a $1,000+ wireless bill for their overseas usage, and I want to avoid that.
What about the option to unlock the iPhone from AT&T and use a SIM card from a wireless carrier in the UK? I've been told that wireless companies are required by law to do this if the customer asks... but the AT&T customer service rep. I asked today said this is not possible because of the exclusive agreement between AT&T and Apple. What's the deal with this?

Thanks for your response Meg. Verizon is definitely not customer friendly. I do have the monthly prepaid domestic data service that I subscribed to from my iPad when I bought it a few months ago. They didn't advise me of any other available plans at the time. You are correct that they are now saying that in order to get an international plan I need to cancel my current monthly plan through one Verizon department (and abandon any remaining data mb) and then subscribe to a contract plan (handled by a different verizon department). But here's the catch: in order to get international service I need to be a contract customer for six months (which doesn't help me as I am going to Europe next week). Of course, if I had bought an ATT iPad I wouldn't be shut out like this since their monthly international plans are readily available through the iPad at any time. I feel that Apple and Verizon should not have touted the new Verizon iPad as comparable to ATT's internationally (which they did) without fully disclosing the hoops one has to jump through.

Keep in mind that your iPad is unlocked and capable of running off any GSM. Like you, I also have the prepaid plan. When I went to Canada in April, I got a 3G SIM from a local carrier at a very reasonable price. Just popped out my Verizon SIM and put it in a safe place, popped in the Bell Alliant SIM and was good to go.

Some question about International Travel

Ok so i know alot of people have question about international travel weather is USA to Canada, Canada to USA or where ever.
So i just got off the phone with someone from AT&T these are my questions for them. i hope it can help, im confuse myself.
*1. I travel recently travel to canada a few weeks ago, when i cross the boarder i switch the data roaming ON and it picks up Rogers Wireless, a few days ago i try i again it said NO SERVICE is something wrong with my iPad?*
NO, consider yourself lucky u didnt get charge for that roaming, your ipad well not work out of the US unless u buy one of our International plans that AT&T has provided. The reason for this is so you wont have any unwanted charge or high charge on your bill.
*2. If i was to buy a sim card from Canada and pop it in to my US ipad well it work?*
Honestly that's something you can try at your own risk, it's design for AT&T so by switching sim cards it may affect your ipad such as running slow, virus, crash. You can try it, i dont work for Rogers so i know nothing about them, i work for AT&T so i can only tell you about our plans and i wont lie to you.(I THINK U JUST DID) This ipad is not unlock just like the iphone so it well only work with AT&T.

Yes it can, right now your on the unlimited plan if you put in a different sim card and then re-put in ur AT&T one chances are you're going to loose your unlimited plan and have to settle for the newer plan. That's why AT&T has reduce it's international plans so people are more likely to use it. It's a contract we sign with Apple, if u want to use in canada you can always buy an Ipad in canada and use their plan. (***)
At the end of this conversion i was just more angry with them. All in all she told bottom line is dont do anything stick with AT&T and pay for international plans. So i have to pay over price data plan if i want to use it intertanional? or i have to buy an ipad for each international places i go to?
Has anyone try or done any of the 3 ive mention and did it affect ur plan or ipad in anyway?

Ok so here's a little more info
I called AT&T again today asking them the same question the guy was more helpful then the one yesterday. Even though he kinda told me the same saying that the ipad need to be unlock. , Afterward he transfer me someone from Apple. The lady told me
1. The ipad is UNLOCK so dont bother trying to get it unlock.
2. she doesnt see why sticking in another sim card from one of the apple ipad carrier is a problem. U would just have to sign up activated it like u would when u first got it.
3. Contact phone company (my case Rogers) to see if they carry the mico sim cards.
4. She doesnt see why it would affect the current plan u have now.
So at the end of all that she told me, seem like AT&T is just telling you, you cant do this or u shouldnt do that is simple THEY WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLANS.
so with that i said i just want to let everyone know. I'm gonna go pick my Micro sim cards from Canada in a bit and sign up for thier plan we'll keep everyone updated if anything change or how it work

FB, Opera all work but will NOT d/l - NO DATA PLAN

I got this phone second hand and so far Facebook, Viigo and Opera Mini all connect to the internet - and I don't have a data plan. The prob is that as soon as I try to download something through Opera (such as Google apps), it reverts back to the BB browser and gives this error msg:
"Exceeded maximum redirect attempts to server: http//m.web2go.com/upsell/?msisdn=17132053775&cp=200"
I had to download Opera to the PC first, but many apps don't have that option. Obviously something was done before I got the phone, but since I have some internet access, I'm reluctant to try anything unknowingly.
PLEASE let me know if theres is any other information I can provide that can be helpful, I'm just listing a few things here at random that I assume would be of use.
