Internet stops working for 10sec-2min intervals multiple times an hour. HELP!

Greetings,
I've been a FIOS customer for 4 years and I never had an issue. Then, all of a sudden, today I started having a crippling issue with my 50mps internet connection.
My internet drops or stops working all together for intervals of 10 seconds to 2 minutes at randome times, five to five six an hour.
The router does not reset or change colors. In fact, according to my computer, in most cases access to the internet is not dropped. Although  a few times when it lasts over a minute it does say that there is no access to the internet.
I reseted my router 6 times today, 4 on my own and 2 times when I called customer service. It had no impact. One of the agents suggested changing the channel that my router uses which made it even worse. Another suggested a factory reset which had no impact whatsoever.
Now they are sending me another router to replace the one I have, which is not old since I moved 4 months ago and got new equipment.
I think the issue has nothing to do with hardware gone bad but those agents seem perfectly incapable of diagnosing the problem.
I told one of the agents that the only new variable is that I got a chromecast last week. I did notice that I started having problems then and so I stopped using it. I unplugged it and plan to return it.
I think there is something weird going on but I can't figure it out and the agents are no help. Now I am supposed to wait for another router when I am almost entirely sure that that is not the problem.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes, I live in Howard County. We've been having trouble off and on since that really bad rain storm in the middle of October.
I'll let you know if I learn anything. I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one.

I keep getting the same error message when syncing my iphone in itunes with my windows 7 Dell laptop: The software has stopped working and will be shut down.  Can anyone help?

    Hey preachit,
It sounds like we are running into issues with the iTunes software connecting to your device. If possible, lets try plugging your iPhone 5 in with a different cable. Also, try plugging it in to a different USB port on your computer:

We may need to isolate the issue down to the iPhone or the current installation of iTunes. If the above steps have not resolved your issue, remove and reinstall iTunes:

  • Internet stops working after being connected for 5 minutes to wifi

My macbook pro running on os x mavericks is giving me an issue. After 5 minutes  of connection with the wifi network, the internet stops working even though its connected the network. Reconnecting fixes it for yet another 5 minutes.

Might be corrupted network preferences ..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference.
Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

  • Internet stopped working on MBA after latest firmware update. Help please!!!

Internet stopped working after installing the latest firmware update. WiFi still connects to router, our other mac desktop still connects to internet as usual (same network). I can't even re-install the MBA OS since it needs an internet connection!!!
    Any ideas?

    FIXED.
I swapped our wireless router for a newer one, internet seems to work fine again (we were sent a new one by our internet provider which we never set up until now).

  • Ethernet suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason

My late 2011 MBP is usually functioning as a desktop with external display and keyboard/trackpad, so I have it connected via ethernet when it's on the desk.  However, my connection suddenly stopped working for no apparent reason.......... BUT clearly not a router problem as there's no problem with the wifi connection.  System Preferences > Network > Ethernet is telling me:
Status: Connected.  Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet.
Dunno how this happened, as to my knowledge I didn't actually do anything to cause this problem, just randomly stopped working.  Any solutions much appreciated, thanks :-)

  • Backing Files Stop Working For No Apparent Reason.  Help?

I have a portal application accessing a remote WSRP PageFlow portlet. The remote portlet populates a backing file and the producer application reads the data. It was working fine and then it stopped working for no apparent reason. The data was simply null, no errors or warnings. I put traces in the backing file and verified that the life-cycle methods were indeed being called and that data was there, and yes, both were indeed the case. Data is being set on the SimpleStateHolder and it's just not transferring over to the producer side.
In order to rule out environmental issues, I've done this on multiple machines. Also, I started a whole new project, got backing file setup, verified that it worked, started developing with it and one time I deployed and it was broken again. I rolled out the changes I had just made but it didn't matter. The earlier code still failed to work although it had been working moments earlier.
So, any ideas? Has anybody else encountered backing file issues like this and if so do you have any suggestions on debugging or fixing them?

  • After like 10 minutes internet stops working

okay so this all started when i updated to dp 3 or something, then the internet started acting up.....no matter if i update or not (this has been going on for like a month, and i'm on the actual release of yosemite) it keeps on doing this stuff where the internet stops working.....it seems like the less plugins the better because when I use browsers such as "Netsurf" or "Opera" the internet works for like 15 minutes, but then for safari, its like 2 minutes and stops working.  In order to get back online I have to completely log off and log back on, so thats the real problem, especially because I have to use the laptop for school.  I currently tried to find the issue by having the console open on the side so when it finally says "0 B" on opera, I could check the error.  What appeared when this happened was this:
10/23/14 12:31:27.037 PM Console[789]: Failed to connect (_consoleX) outlet from (NSApplication) to (ConsoleX): missing setter or instance variable
So, great I found what the issue is, but now what I need to know is what can I do to fix this?  Please I'm desperate, because not only is this my laptop but it's my mom's.  So she has like an entire buisness set up, and due to this error....it's screwing around with her timing on getting everything in for her buisness.  Best regards,
    Tom Hancock

Slightly different issue but maybe it will help someone solve the OP problem. Just installed 10.10 and using Safari.
    This is my error message...
28/10/2014 12:41:14.757 pm Console[7383]: Failed to connect (_consoleX) outlet from (NSApplication) to (ConsoleX): missing setter or instance variable
I get this whenever I try and reply to an email in OWA (Outlook Web Access). It causes Safari to crash. Up to this point the internet is accessible without problems.

  • Lumia 520 - Internet stops working sometimes. Nee...

I have been using a Nokia Lumia 520 for 6 months.  Sometimes the internet stops working.  Only after removing and replacing the battery, the problem is resolved.  It happens say 2 or 3 times a month.  Is this a common problem?  Does it indicate a problem with the hardware or software?
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Switching the phone off doesn't really switch it all the way off, it just puts it into a kind of "sleep" mode, but the O/S is still running. How would it know that you've pressed the power switch otherwise? Even if it's interrupt-driven rather than the switch being polled constantly, the CPU still has to be running to register the interrupt (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interrupt for a description of what an interrupt is).
By pulling the battery out you're forcing the phone to shut down completely. There's no way it can continue to run without power.

  • Internet stops working every time I try to download anything from iTunes.

Every time I try to download a movie from my purchased list on iTunes it freezes shortly after stating  then the internet stops working. This only happens on my iMac. I have 10.10 and everything is up to date on my iTunes. The internet is not affected on any other platform. To regain internet I have to disconnect from wifi and reconnect.
On a side note, sometimes when I restart my mac the finder bar disappears and the system freezes. I have to hard reboot and then soft reboot for it to work properly again. Help please!!

  • Internet stops working at random

    Hi Guys!
This is about my girlfriend's MacBook.
We have a LevelOne WiFi router, works perfectly fine for my MacBook Pro and other computers (Windows XP, Vista,...).
She can connect to the Wifi and use the Internet. However, after a while - the duration changes, sometimes it's only a few minutes, sometimes it lasts for 30 min. - the Internet stops working.
The MacBook still has full WiFi connection but she doesn't have Internet (no websites, no skype, etc). It's not dependent on what she's doing, sometimes it happens even when she doesn't use the computer.
In the Network Preferences it says that "AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet." Under TCP/IP it's set for using DCHP and also shows an IP and a Subnet Mask, however, the field for "Router" is empty. Renewing the DHCP lease doesn't help, she has to disconnect the Wifi and re-connect, then it works again.
When it works it says that it has another IP address (192.168.123.167), Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and Router is: 192.168.123.254
You can probably imagine that this is annoying like sh*. Help us before I have to bring her to the asylum

The Internet stops working because you are either losing your association to the Wi-Fi router or your DHCP lease is expiring.
The first step to take in debugging this is to make sure your Wi-Fi router has the most up-to-date firmware available from its manufacturer installed on it.

  • Internet stops working frequently on OS X Lion

I had 10.6.X latesr version was OS X and I was happy with that. Now I have upgraded to this Lion OS and I am getting one very embarrasing issue.
Internet stops working frequently. The following will give you the feel of the issue:
    - I am starting safari and will browse for sometime.
    - Suddenly I wont be able to open any sites, internet will stop working.
    - So I check wifi, it is online and showing correctly in my Mac Book Pro.
    - I checked with my room mate his internet is working properly.
    - I changed browser I am not able to browse site in Chrome too.
Solution restart MBP or on/off wifi and restart browser then internet will start working. I am fed up of this lion problem. Does any experienced this problem? Is this a bug? Why I upgraded to this Lion?

I am facing the same issue, only with a slight difference. My entire system sort of hits a halt, apps still work, but they refuse to close.
I am using Internet Sharing to share my internet connection from my iMac's Ethernet port to the WiFi. After a while, not only the iMac's internet stops working, the internet sharing stops working too, not to my surprise. Restarting the computer seems to solve the problem but not 100% of the time, and everytime I try to restart the system, all my open apps seem to refuse to close and I have to either force quit them, which works sometimes, or do a force shutdown by holding the power button for a few seconds.
Making the Ethernet port inactive and reactivating it does not solve the problem, nor does disconnecting the ethernet cable and reconnecting it.
I have a little software installed that monitors my network activity and displays it in the menu bar. I have it currently monitoring my Ethernet port and what happens when the internet connection stops working is that the Ethernet port, although still connected and with a green light, just stops sending and receiving data, sometimes it does receive some data but it stays at 30-60 B/s.
I'm sure this is an issue with OS X Lion because I had never had this issue with Snow Leopard until I upgraded to Lion.
Realy hoping for some guidance from Apple here on how to tackle this issue, it's quite annoying to have to restart my iMac all the time. I am used to leaving my iMac on all the time cause I access it remotely often using LogMeIn on my iPad. As well as that, I have other network services running and it's quite annoying to try and access my iMac remotely and find out it is offline because Lion refuses to keep me connected to the internet.

  • Notifyd using 70% cpu, webfilterproxyd 48%, and syslogd 18.4% and internet stops working

This happens almost everytime I am online. The fan gets super loud, the internet stops working (connectivity is great but no pages will load, regardless of browser). Sometimes turning off the wifi and turning it back on allows me to use the internet for another 30 before the problem happens again. The only way to get the internet to start working again is to restart my computer.
Whenver the problem happens I find the above processes taking up all the CPU. All 3 are root processes.
This started happening about a year after I got my macbook pro brand new. I have been dealing with this forever. Have searched online everywhere over the course of months and cannot figure out the problem.
PLEASE HELP! It is so annoying having to keep restarting my computer all of the time!!
(note: I haven't updated my mac to any new software since getting it. Didn't realize I could until I saw the new Maverick update. So my macbook pro is still OS X 10.7.5 just like when I bought it.)

just saw another post...is this possible an issue with having parental controls on this account?

  • Internet stops working after waking up from sleep

My MPB has a strange and very inconvenient problem. Sometimes when it goes out of sleep Internet stops working. No matter what connection I use: Ethernet or WiFi (tried both), no site can be opened. The strange thing is:
at the same time other devices connected to the same router work fine (both wired and wireless), so router and ISP are OK.
from Mac I can ping any site by IP (and Skype works fine too).
So it looks like some service in Mac OS that is responsible for domain name resolution stops working.
    What I tried:
    Restart router - no effect
Move Mac to sleep and wake again - no effect
Restart Mac - the only cure. But in this case I have to close and open numerous applications that is really bothering.
Should I mention that all updates are in place?

Try this. Go to: System Preferences/Network/Advanced/ and click on the far right part of the bar, PPP. You have seven possible items to be clicked: instead, only click "Connect Automatically..." and "Disconnect when..." - and leave everything else unclicked.
That should solve your problem, though it'd be great if you were to post your results here.

  • Satellite L855-188 runs slowly - some apps stop working for a time

    Hello,
I bought this laptop a week ago as an upgrade from the dell studio 1558 and it is more powerful spec wise and i will admit windows 8 does make things a little strange but i am having issues with the laptop:
The laptop sometimes runs slowly and certain applications such as chrome and steam and skype just stop working for a time, and sometimes require the applications to be reset before they will work again and chrome has now developed a bug that only lets it open if i right click on it and tell it to open a new window
The wireless will randomly drop, and will no longer open the connections window, the devices show it as being active, but can neither enable it or disable it or find wireless connections or even open the menu to find connections this can only be solved by a system restart.... i have updated the drivers for the wireless to the newest for the Atheros card
It will not restart, shut-down or sleep, when asked to do so the screen will go dark, sound like its preparing to shut down and say with the screen darkened hanging in the about to shut down state until it either cuts its own power or i hold the power button to force it to turn off,
I have updated the drivers available on the Toshiba website as all the AMD drivers say they are incompatible
Help would be appreciated, I don't want to send this back or have to try reverting to windows 7 or something drastic

    >Francesco_1: I dont have that many programs running, skype, steam, chrome, panda internet security, iobits advanced system care and sticky notes, nothing too stressing at all, and my dell with literally half the spec of this laptop handelled it all fine
    You said always: sometimes
In my opinion if there would be an hardware problem, the notebook would run always slowly and not sometimes
However, as I recommended above: try the option Reset your PC. This would returns Windows 8 to its original state.
By the way: a good tip to improve the notebook performance is the change from HDD to SSD drive.
I did it on my notebook and guess what: its great! Its much faster as the HDD.
From my point of view, HDD is the past... SSD drive are now and future. You could exchange the HDD with an SSD drive and could use the HDD as an "backup" medium.
