IPhoto slideshow images play unsharp when burnedI have rece to DVD in iDVD

I have recently created a couple of slide shows in iPhoto where they look great and pin sharp. They still look great after export to iDVD but when they are burned to DVD and played back either on the computer or on the TV DVD player they come through less than pin sharp. In fact they appear distinctly fuzzy.Is this a known issue for which there is a remedy? Perhaps something needs cleaning? Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I am experiencing the same problem with iDVD 8 on OS X 10.5.4 on a Macbook Pro.
F Shippey, can you please clarify? Is higher resolution better or does it really matter? I have tried displaying my images in RAW, PSD, and jpg all with negative results. All of the resolutions have been 3872 x 2592 (approx). All shot were taken with my Nikon D60 10MP camera. I have the project settings at NTSC / best performance / wide screen (have tried standard 4:3).
I have read the iDVD docs and see nothing about image preparation. Any suggestions to improve clarity?
Thank you in advance,
Ralph

    i have iphoto previously installed. running  but when i have synced my iphone4 the iphoto app. cant be launched anymore. a black screen with the hourglass running till it quits automatically.  What should be the problem???

    Try the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your HD/User/Home/() Library/Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your HD/User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Click to view full size

  • I have completed a dvd using idvd.  It burns to disc but I want to upload it to tube Is there a way to do that?  it seens to be in project mode now.

    I have completed a dvd using idvd.   It burns to disc and plays back on both mac and pc
    I want to upload it to utube as a private link for family
    file://localhost/Users/annedutton/Documents/Be%20Still%20two.dvdproj/
    Is there a way to do it?   I looked at quicktime to try but cannot seem to get it done.
    Thank you for your help

      iDVD is not a format that can be viewed online.  Personally I would try creating a slideshow in iPhoto with the same photos and audio as used in iDVD. Then export as a movie file with the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window:
    Since I don't use Face Book I don't know what size to recommend.  Another option would be to get a YouTube account (free) and upload the Quicktime movie file to it.  You can make videos there private or public.
    Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
    To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • IPhoto Slideshow images will not burn to DVD -- Green Screen

    I'm trying to burn a slideshow I created in iPhoto '09 to a DVD using iDVD '09. The first few time I've done this, everything burns properly, including the DVD menu. When I select the "play" button to play the slideshow, the music that I originally entered plays correctly; however, the screen is completely green and none of the images appear.
    Slideshow has 136 pictures and three songs from my iTunes library. The menu in iDVD has no music and only one pictures, using a previously loaded theme from the default options. I am burning the slideshow to 16:9 ratio, NTSC, best performance.
    I have tried creating using the autoplay upon dvd insert option, which still did not work. Same green screen with slideshow music playing. I am currently trying to export the slideshow as quicktime movie then adding that to the project.
    PLEASE help. Any ideas appreciated.

    I did search apple's KB again but that's the only article I could find on Green Screen so I posted it to the forum for reference purposes only....
    Sorry it failed to help. I'll ask around for other suggestions and if anything comes up I'll post back.
    DRM is certainly a possibility as suggested above even though I've not seen it attached/related to an issue of this nature (lines yes, but rarely the entire screen).

  • I made a slide show with music and random transitions in iPhoto.  I can't burn it to a DVD.  The burn button in iPhoto is not highlighted, and when I exported the slide show to iDVD, it lost the random transistions, and the disk won't play in DVD player.

    Two problems:  1. My iphoto slide show loses its random transitions when I export it to iDVD.
    2. When I then burn it to a disk, the disk will not play in a DVD player, but only on my MAC.
    Any ideas?

    The random transitions can only be random when played in iPhoto.
    If you are in the slideshow mode and use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option a quictime movie will be created of the slideshow with the first random set of transitions and imported into iDVD.  The transitions, however,  will be fixed permanently and will not be changed again.
    There is no way to get any sort of random behavior in an iDVD.  When it's burned to disk it's locked permanently.

  • Exporting an iphoto slideshow to play in the iphone

    Hello - any ideas how i can get a iphoto slideshow exported to play on an iphone.
    If you export an iMovie - under the share option there is an export movie option, and then you can choose the iphone format?
    Many thanks

    Do you have Quicktime Pro? If you do you can add the movie to the audio track, scaling it to match the track's length, and export for iPhone.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How do I: swap image in background when I have overriding CSS for that div

    Hi: let's see if I can properly explain this delema:
    Goal: I want to hover on spry menu main menu items and have the container background image change
    Catch: I am using a template and have different background images on each page so I had to insert an inline CSS rule for the container bg image that overrides the template.
    Now I want the background image to change when I hover over the main menu items
    any ideas??
    site can be seen at www.summitcreekcapital.com
    THanks, Nancy

    I don't see any real need to switch style sheets for something as mundane as change of bg image.  Here's an alternative:
    1) Add this to the head of your pages right before the closing </head> tag:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/js/bgSwitcher.js"> </script>
    <link href="/css/bgimages.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
    2) Then edit your menu items to add an onmouseover event that calls the "newbg()" function, with a memorable classname as a parameter appropriate for each menu item, like this:
    <li><a href="firm_overview.html" onmouseover="newbg('foverview')">FIRM OVERVIEW</a></li>
    <li><a href="firm_team.html" onmouseover="newbg('mteam')">MANAGEMENT TEAM</a></li>
    <li><a href="code.pdf" target="_blank" onmouseover="newbg('cethics')">CODE OF ETHICS</a></li>
    Please note my classnames were crafted to reflect the text of the link, like "Firm Overview" -> "foverview" rather than the imagename you will be using for the bg, so in the future if you decide to change that image, the classname will still make sense for that link!
    3) and then in an external style sheet named "bgimages.css" which I've put in a /css/ folder (but you are free to rename all these paths, filenames etc)
    put these:
    .oneColLiqCtrHdr #container.foverview {
        background: url(../pic01.jpg);
    .oneColLiqCtrHdr #container.mteam{
        background: url(../pic03.jpg);
    .oneColLiqCtrHdr #container.cethics{
        background: url(../pic02.jpg);
    Change the images and paths as needed of course. As always the path is always relative to the location of this css file.
    4) And finally, in an external js file name "bgSwitcher.js" which I've put in a /js/ folder, paste this:
    function newbg(classnm){
         var d=document;
         if (!d.getElementById) return;
         var c=d.getElementById("container");
         if (!c) return;
         c.className=classnm;
    Hope that all makes sense.  If I left you confused at any step just let me know.

  • Getting extra scenes when burning from imovie to dvd using idvd.

    I edited a movie using imovie and got it n the sequence I want.  Then I burned it to dvd using idvd.  However, when I view the dvd, it starts midway through the video, goes to the end, then starts over and shows me the whole video.
    The problem is, I don't see the extra part that shows in the beginnning on the dvd on imovie.  How do I get rid of that extra stuff if I can't see it on imovie?

    I have had the same problem. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support and they were absolutely no help at all. They told me to buy Final Cut Pro. The only thing I found that helped was to export the movie using Quick Time as HD as possible (which takes a long time) and then use that in iDVD, so that the version I have for viewing on a TV or whatever doesn't look cheap and lo-res. My old iMac and iMovie 4 was slow, but the quality was much better on finished DVD products of movies or slideshows. It *****.

  • IPhoto Slideshow Image Quality when export to IDVD

    Aloha ... I have two issues that I am having problems with when I export to IDVD. My images look very fuzzy (originals are very high res and print quality images} when exported to iDVD and a DVD is made. Also in the show my vertical images look fine and fill the screen yet on iDVD they are made shorter/squatier and upper and lower parts of the original image are lost. The format is wide screen as is the show. I am using a LCD wide screen TV if that helps. Any ideas out there?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you cropping your photos to the 16:9 ratio before creating the widescreen slideshow in iPhoto and exporting them to iDVD for a widescreen project? Most digital camera images are in the 4:3 size ratio and don't convert well to the widescreen. Also check the aspect ratio that you're playing the dvd in as that can have an effect on how the slideshow looks.
    Also remember that the images going to iDVD will be reduced to 640 x 480 (normal TV) and slightly larger for the widescreen version. So the pixel dimensions of the original image are not that relevant.
    Happy Holidays

  • IPhoto Slideshow images disappear.

    I have been exporting images from Lightroom to iPhoto in order to show slideshows with Apple TV.  However, after a week or so, I lose all the images from the slideshow file.  I have set the image file size as high as possible when I export to iPhoto.  Is there an upper limit to Slideshow size?  Can anyone recommend a file size that that iPhoto can handle?
    Thank you.

    In your original post you say
    However, after a week or so, I lose all the images from the slideshow file.
    Just from the slideshow? Or from the iPhoto Library?
    Regards

  • Iphoto Slideshow only plays first slide of album

    Ok- this is a new one for me. Never used to happen. I choose an album with 74 pictures, for example. Then when I hit the slideshow icon only the first slide of the album plays in the slideshow. ???

    An easy way to select all of the photos in an album is to just click on the album in the Source pane and then start the slideshow. Even though the individual photos don't show blue, as long as the album shows blue it'll do the job.
    Do you Twango?

  • Iphoto cropping images off page when printing

    Hi,
    When I select 2 images in iPhoto vertically on one page in portrait, , they show in iPhoto correctly with a border around edges. However, when I hit print, they become landscape, and the top of top image is cropped off page with the bottom of the bottom photo cropped off page too.
    I have reviewed all settings with no success.
    In the Apple shop they suggested asking on here because they didn't know what the problem was either.
    All help gratefully accepted.
    It was doing this using OSX and still is with Yosamite.

    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
    3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: For Mavericks and Yosemite,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
    where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.

  • Exporting an iphoto slideshow to play in itunes

    I want to export a slideshow from iphoto to itunes so i can sync it with my iphone.
    I know it can be done, i did one 6 months ago to put it on my ipod, but i can remember how i did it.
    I know it has to be in the .m4v format
    please help!

    Hey richkyd,
    You can export your slideshow from iPhoto as a .Mov file by going to File> Export.
    You can also click Share> iDVD. When you share to iDVD, it creates a video file in /Users/your user/Movies
    From there you should be able to transfer the video to the iPhone. But, you can convert the video as described in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211
    Highlight the video in iTunes> Advanced> convert for iPhone.

  • Do I have to pay for iPhoto '11 9.5.1, when I have iPhoto '11 9.4.3?

    I upgraded to Mavericks from mountain lion and noticed iPhoto and iMovie did not upgrade with it.  I have iPhoto '11 9.4.3, and when I go to the app store to try to update it, it asks me to pay $14.99 for iPhoto '11 9.5.1.  They are both iPhoto '11 so it seems I should be able to update for free.  Is this correct?  Is my app store just not recognizing the other iPhoto I have installed?
    Please help.

    I should think twice if you have / need to pay for iPhoto now when you'll upgrade it.
    Apple will not update / support  iPhoto any more, please read this:
