IPod mini not working properly

I got my ipod in last years summer holidays during this years holidays my ipod started play up first of all switching off-saying i had no battery when i could clearly see its got full charge eg if i just took it off charge! Then i restored it on itunes it said that if i was having problems to do that, thats when things went really downhill it kept freezng so i restored it again and it showed a sad face ipod and a website (www.apple.com/support/ipod) so i visited there and it told me what to do however it didnt work and now my mini cant connect to my itunes or my computer, does anyone know what to do?

Here is a pretty comprehensive post about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • IPod Touch Not Working Properly After Front Screen and Housing Replacement

So my son left his iPod Touch 4th Gen on my back bumper and it fell off out in our dirt/gravel driveway.  I finally found it, 7 days later, run over multiple times.  Front screen and back housing were demolished as you can see, but it still worked fine (except rear facing camera was done).  Ordered the rear camera, front screen and back housing assemblies off eBay from reputable sellers.  Took it all apart and reassembled it. Bada bing! Everything was working fine: camera, speakers, touch screen, wi-fi, all of it, for about 2 days .  It went from working perfectly, to being kinda glitchy (had to hold home and power to restart), to not turning on at all.  I read somewhere that if you don't clean all metal to metal contacts, it may interfere and not work properly, so I just took it (almost) all apart again, cleaned the contacts, and it turned on and was working, but this time only for about half an hour.  I've held down the home and power buttons for long periods of time, which sometimes got it to work, but now is not working at all.  Any ideas on what might be going on??? Is the screen bad?  Did I maybe miss a metal to metal contact (e.g. the power button, ribbon cable)?  Any really important ones that you can tell me about?  I really don't want to take it into the Apple store, but if I do, any ideas on a ruff guesstimate on what it's gonna cost me?  Thanks for any help!  I really appreciate it, I'd love to get this thing working for my 7 year old so I can have my d*** phone back!

well first off I would contact apple and see what they say.. if they will fix it, how much it could/would cost etc. If they wont help you I suggest going with a ipod repair company.. something like www.ipodmods.com or www.ipodresq.com. Get in touch with them add see again if they are willing to look at it and how much it will/could cost..
    good luck.

Try Restoring the iPod with the most recent iPod Updater (version 1.4.1 I believe). To get it, click the iPod+iTunes link at the top of this screen, then scroll down on the left.
Here is a link to the 5Rs tutorials: use the drop-down menu to navgiate through the different ones.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt16.html
I am not exactly sure what the battery symbol you described means, but I'm sure if you searched the iPod forums for something like "Battery with exclamation point" you would find it.
    I hope this helps!

  • Need Help Ipod mini not working

I have a mini and it won't show up on my computer, at least I can't find it anywhere, if anyone one has had this problem please let me know if you remember some simple, and basic steps please write them out, I would greatly appreciate it, Thank You.

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

  • IPod Mini not working with new car stereo

I just got a 2007 Sienna in which the audio system includes an AUX port for connecting to my iPod. However, when I connect the two (using a RadioShack Gold Series audio dubbing cable recommended by RadioShack), nothing happens. My iPod is not locked, and it works with headphones and also through the FM transmitter (although the latter not very well at all).
Is there an iPod setting that I am missing? Do I have the wrong cable? Is there a problem with my car's audio system?
Any advice/suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Doh. Never mind. I just figured out it was a volume problem.

  • Ipod feature not working properly.

The Ipod feature on the 3GS phone stops playing during a song change but is still showing continuous play. Anybody seen this..have a solution?

did you already try to connect in recovery mode? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If this does not work, try to delete the ipod software file located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates to make iTunes download a new copy when you connect in recovery mode. Maybe the file stored on your PC is damaged.

  • Ipod Touch Not Working Properly

Ok My Ipod Touch 2nd gen was working fine till it just randomly turned off. The Ipod now turns turns itself off everytime i enter apps. When it turns itself off it will not turn back on, The apple simble comes up with different coloured backgrounds such as red or blue. These colours are often striped. It will normally take at least 10 minutes to turn back on. sometimes it also freezes.
When it is charging it also turns off.
I have also tried restoring it and updating it, this takes a fair bit off time because it'll turn off a number off times when it is snycing, I will then have to start all over again
Does anyone know what is wrong with it?

  • Ipod will not work properly

I've had my ipod mini for over a year, and now the battery won't charge at all. I just plugged it in, the laptop picks it up, but then every couple minutes or so it says "low battery" and it starts beeping and then it doesn't do anything, and the comp keeps making the sound when you attach and deattach things via the USB port when that happens.
I'm guessing I should send it in for repair, but my question was is the battery the problem, and would it be more logical to buy a new ipod or just send it in for repair?
And when I entered the serial number off the back of it it says it doesn't recognize it (on the repair part of the site).
EDIT: The moment after I posted it...it started working again o_O;;. So yea...should I still send it for repair to be better safe than sorry or what XD?

my bro has had his iPod mini for about 2 years now and his has really low battery as well. for instance he has to charge it via usb about 3 times while hes at school, and still by the time he gets home there is no battery left.
anyway, i wouldnt say yours is due for repair yet.
my brothers beeps when you plug it in the pc as well. basically the battery is really low. after about 10 minutes it will have enough charge and it will come up in iTunes and u can just carry on.
theres nowt wrong wi ur iPod mate. just a low battery and a worrying beep

  • Apple store says ipod mini not working b/c not using usb port 2.0 - true?

My ipod mini (a year old) is frozen/can't be charged. Apple store guy said because I've been using usb port 1.1 and that it is supposed to be used with usb port 2.0. Tells me won't send in for replacement (out of warranty anyway) unless I first update my computer with USB 2.0 card. Is this true?

It's better to use 2.0 because it's faster.
Try resetting it, hold the center [select] button and the menu button until the Apple logo appears. or let the battery die, and then plug it in.

First, try a system reset although I can't give you any confidence.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
