Is it possible to capture HD 1080i on FCP 5.04?

Hello,
I just purchased a new HD camera that shoots HD 1080i50 as well as progressive. i guess FCP 5 can't handle the progressive, but i thought it should be able to capture the 1080i, because it exists as an option in sequence settings.
however, every time i tried open "log and capture", FCP either quit unexpectedly (when i chose the HDV capture preset) or couldn't initialize the camera VTR (when i chose HDV Intermediate Apple Codec). these were the only 2 HDV options it offered.
is there a problem with my FCP or is 5.04 simply not compatible with HD 1080i?
which FCP version is compatible with 1080p?
(In "device control preset" the only 2 HDV options were: HDV firewire or Sony HDV 1080i50 firewire. i tried both, even thought the camera is a Canon...)

The problem is more that Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 is not compatible with your Intel Mac.
Neither is it compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.
Sure, it will install but you can expect all kinds of problems.
You need to upgrade to at least version 5.1 which is no longer sold.

And, if so, should I use USB from the camera, or insert the SD card into my card-reader?
The camera I'm looking at is able to record HD footage to a 2gb SD card (about 40 mins worth)

Possible to capture an image if the button on the cam is clicked?

Hi!
Im testing JMF and wonder if anybody knows if it is possible to capture click events from the web camera? The web camera itself has a button made to capture images and I'd like this feature in my application. All I wonder is if it's possible to capture or in any other way access information when ever this button is clicked.

You could use linux easily.
Check dmesg, after you push the button.
Allyou have to do is capture the event.
In windows, you would probably have to do some jni.

Is it possible to capture from DV tape (OnLocation CS5)

I posted this question on the OnLocation forum but got not responses at all. I’m new to Premiere Pro CS5 so please bear with me. Is it possible to capture DV from my Canon HV40 using OnLocation? When I get OL and my camera connected and ready, it only allows me to capture Live recoding. But I would like to capture my already recorded DV from tapes. I know I can use PrePro under a new project each time but it would be nice to do capturing and import clips to whatever projects later. Do I have something set wrong or is this not possible using OL?

The 800-400 converter plugs have proved a problem for this. What version of the software are you using. It sounds like an older version of FCP, if so you should ask your question on the Final Cut Studio forum.

I am capturing DV tapes and even if I uncheck the "split scenes" option in the capture window, PE7 still splits the scenes into many .avi files.

Is it possible to capture video directly from my computer monitor. I want to create a video tutorial on running some programs. I don't really know anything about the video software, I bought the CS5 master collection for the other programs. So, I just wondered if any of them can do it before I spend $40 on FRAPS.

Check out CamStudio; it's a free screen recording program.
Note that if you use the CamStudio codec, you'll have to transcode the files to a different codec as the CS codec is not 64-bit. You can also Google for 64-bit screen capture codecs, and use one of those.

Your code shows a complete lack of understanding of dataflow programming. Maybe you should start out with a few tutorials and study some example programs from the example finder.
How are you running the code? Run continuously??? There is no toplevel loop! It is difficult to say more, because most subVIs are missing so we cannot even test.
Your toplevel is unmaintainable, with loops and sequence structures stacked knee deep. Have a look at state machine architecture instead. Your only seem to work if controls are operated in a specific sequence. Most of the time, controls will not respond because the code does something else.
Your "sweep program makes no sense. Why are you setting a value property that overwrites a control, making the control useless. Only use controls if the user can actually change something. Why not just initialize the shift register with a diagram constant of 400? After you do that, the sequence structure is obsolete, delete it. Why is there a local variable? Why don't you delete the local variable and place the indicator in its place inside the loop?
Your subfilter code makes no sense. Nothing will happen in the main VI while it is running. Data is only returned at the output terminal once the VI is finished. It does not change any wavelenghts as you claim, it simply updates it's front panel. What else do you expect? Why don't you flatten that code in the main VI, simply autoindexing an array with three wavelents in the loop that does the acquisition. Why does the output go to a case strucure with only choices 0 and 1? Since none of the outputs will ever be 0 or 1, only the empty default case will ever execute.

Poor Quality after Capturing the 1080i Source

I use the camera that the model is Sony HDR-HC3.
When i capture the 1080i source recorded by above model,
the source in Final Cut Express HD is very poor.
The image will break in several shadow when the shot is presenting
movement, as like pan left/right, tilt up/down etc.
When I export the movie used the H.264, it's much more poor.
What's wrong is happened?

I had the same problem. I tried different FW & HD settings and still got poor quality. Then I tried an HD tape and got the same results. So, I took my Sony back and traded for Canon's new HD (HV10), and found the quality to be MUCH better. I don't know why and would rely on someone with bigger brains for that answer.

Possible to bypass tape and capture live events in FCP via Firewire?

I was thinking to buy a Canon XH-A1E or similar HDV camera. I was wondering if it is possible to run a firewire from the camera during a live event to a laptop running FCP in capture mode and capture the footage to FCP as it is being shot.

If the computer crashed, I believe you would lose the file currently being captured into. In much the same way as if you were to prematurely stop a copy process from one disk to another, it would simply disappear.
At any rate, if the file did survive it would most likely be unusable because the directory entry would be incomplete.

ACE20 Module - is it possible to capture probe traffic?

I am having a weird problem. I have an HTTPS probe that sometime fail, sometimes does not fail.

The probe that sometimes fails is the TEST-HTTPS. The TCP_443 probe works perfectly well.
The ACE is configured in bridge mode.
Is it possible to capture the PROBE traffic on the ACE side?

If it is not in production or if you dont have much load.
You can try playing with few of the debug option:
debug hm errors
debug hm events
debug hm info
The above will help you to identify the errors.

BATCH CAPTURE TAPELESS workflow still FCP is looking for a capture device when going ONLINE

Hi,
I am working on a documentary and about to go online with my edit.
I used Sony FS100. Tapeless. I did Log and Transfer to ProRes 422 in FCP 7.
Later when I run out of space I used Media Manager to RECOMPRESS everything to ProRes Proxi. Worked well.
But now when I try to batch capture to ProRes 422 FCP is looking for a capture device thinking I am working with tapes.
How do I make FCP undrerstand I am tapeless? Does the recompress kill the possibility of bach capturing back to online full quality 422?

I have read through some more forums and I only found one mention of the Media Manager 'Recomress' function.
It said:
"Transcoding with MM (recompress). It preserves timecode/reel name, file names, etc... Except the clip ID, which is used along with reel name and timecode to batch capture from source files (at least for P2)."
Clip ID is the metadata relyable for the work of batch capture. It seems without it it is impossible to batch capture.
I wonder why they designed Recompress like that, if it is true?
