Is Windows Hyper V supported as an install option

We would like to use virtualization server to install and run under windows OS 2003. Version of BOE is Xi 3.1. Do you support windows hyper v / virtualization implementations?

VMware is the only visualization I have seen approved for DEV only (not production/performance issues). It will probably work but the same rules would apply in regards to production/performance issues.

  • Adding Hyper-V/RemoteFX vGPU support to an installed server

I'm looking for advice from the community and/or MS support folks:
I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials server installed on hardware (that supports the required VT-d, SLAT, etc features) running & stable in a single-server environment.  Now I'd need to add support for hosting Hyper-V virtual machines on the
    server.
Server 2012 apparently does not allow installing Hyper-V server directly onto the server when the server is the PDC.  There seems to be two primary ways to slice this server into virtualized units.
    1) Implement a hyper-visor 'under' the existing OS:
My understanding is that the my R2 Essentials license allows me to create two instances of the server, one virtualization host and one client running on the host.  Originally I attempted to set up the server this way, but the process was non-trivial
to say the least - apparently this is really only enabled for OEMs and end-users are left to struggle with creating a custom install image.  I gave up on that due to time & technical limitations.
Is there a way of performing a 'P2V' operation on the server and installing a Hyper-V hypervisor underneath the server OS without perturbing it's running environment too much?  My guess is that hardware changes detected by the guest (server) OS will
put my storage array at risk, and I need to avoid that at all costs; are there ways to mitigate the risks?
    2) Leave the existing server as-is (not virtualized), install Hyper-V, install a 2nd copy of Server 12R2E into a VM, migrate the PDC into the VM:
Will this allow the server to host RemoteFX sessions now that it's not the PDC?
Will I encounter licensing issues when taking this path?
    3) Are people having better luck using ESXi, XEN, etc to bypass the server limitations?
    Thanks in advance,
    3Dad

    Hi 3Dad,
To install hyper-v role with Server 2012 R2 Essentials server, I recommend you can install a Hyper-v Host and migrate the Server 2012 R2 Essentials server to vm in Hyper-v.
I think you can configure RemoteFX for Hyper-V now without Active Directory Domain Controller installed:
Hyper-V: Avoid Installing RemoteFX on a Computer that is Configured
    as an Active
    Directory Domain Controller
I also find a similar disscussion about the method 1 you posted is for your reference:

If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • Need help: When installing iTunes on Windows 7, installer is stopping at "Installing Apple Application Support". Can anyone help....this is the first time I am using an Apple product and it sure is not very user friendly!!!

I am trying to install itunes but the installer is not going beyond the "Installing Apple application support" stage,

Do you have any of these programs installed?
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
I had the trouble that if an old #4 or #5 was installed, a full iTunes install did not work.
If you have any of the above installed, try this,

  • New Hyper-V machine will not install guest OS from ISO image. Your PC ran into a problem.....

Thanks for any help in advance....
Here's the scenario.  I have a new Dell PE R630.  2012 Standard R2, fresh install.  All drivers and updates are installed.  When booting a newly created VM from an ISO of 2012 R2 Standard, attempting to install the OS on the VM,
I get the blue screen of "Your PC has run into a problem" screen.  It just loops over and over again.
I've tried Generation 1 VM and Generation 2 VM.  I've disabled Secure Boot in "Bios" on the Generation 2 VM.  I've tried different ISO files.  I've tried disabling all integration services.  I've tried just about every single
settings change there is to try with the same result.
In the Bios of the hardware R630, I checked that Virtualization is enabled.  I looked for any other settings that could be off, but don't see anything out of the ordinary.
I don't know what else to try. Thanks to anyone with input.
    -Josh

    Hi Sir,
I would suggest you to  :
    1. check if there is any power saving mode was enabled on R630 BIOS .
    2. check hyper-v host "Power Options" selected "High performance" .
    3. please try to disable " NUMA spanning " in hyper-v settings .
Then install OS for VM again .
In addition , please check hyper-v host's event log to see if there's any error recorded :
    "event viewer / applications and services logs / microsoft /windows / hyper-v* "

  • Hyper-V Integration update not installing

I have Build 9926 and Hyper-V running.  I installed Win 7 SP1 (Guest OS) and did a full update / rebooted.  I am still not able to see the integration package as an available option.
So I setup a WSUS server and I see the package but it's not applicable to my win 7.  According to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3004908/, all I need to have for Win 7 is SP1.
Is there a bug that I am not aware of?
And for god's sake, don't tell me to upgrade to the latest version.  The client not installing the package so I want to know why the client is not working properly.

    I tried the values:
    HostingSystemEditionID = 4
    HostingSystemOSMajor = 6
    HostingSystemOSMinor = 4
I then tried the values you provided in your screenshot.  Still Windows Update from MS (Not my WSUS) says I'm fully up
    to date.
Upon restarting the guest, the registry values were changed back to:
    HostingSystemEditionID = 48
    HostingSystemOSMajor = 10
    HostingSystemOSMinor = 0
Still not able to install the package.
I am not able to find any further documentation on this.  Is there anything else I can try?
    Thank you

  • Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64 wont install Internet Explorer 10

    Hey all,
Having an issue on my clients machine and I have yet to figure it out. The machine is a Dell Latitude E6330 running a 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1 install. Currently the machine has Internet Explorer 9 on it which is unacceptable due to compatibility
with a client website he uses.
Every single time Windows Updates are ran everything will update and install correctly except for
KB2830477 and Internet Explorer 10 giving me Error Codes
    800736B3 and 9C59.
I have attempted installing these two updates manually by downloading them from Microsoft website and installing them in different orders. KB2830477 says that it's not compatible with my system and IE 10 simply fails to install.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I've hit a wall here.

Method 1:The System File Checker tool
To determine whether the issue that you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of the
system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
    1.    Click
Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    2.    Right-click
cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click
    Continue
    3.    At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannow
For more information visit the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212
Now you can try to perform the Windows update and check if the issue persists.
    Method  2:
System resources, such as file data, registry data, and even in-memory data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifetime of the operating system. These inconsistencies might be caused by various hardware failures or might be caused by software
issues. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows servicing store, and they can cause software updates not to work. The System Update Readiness Tool tries to resolve these inconsistencies.
After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer
on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.
For more information and to download the “System update readiness tool” visit the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
Method  3: You may also try to perform a “Clean boot” and check if the issue persists.
    NOTE: THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE DISCLAIMER
Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using
Third Party Software is at your own risk.
    Clean boot:
Note If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to modify the advanced boot
options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.
    a.
Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
    b.    Click Start, type
msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click
    Continue.
    c.     On the General tab, click
Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The
Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
    d.    On the Services
tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click
    Disable all.
Note Following this step lets Microsoft services continue to run. These services include Networking, Plug and Play, Event Logging, Error Reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you may permanently delete all restore points.
Do not do this if you want to use the System Restore utility together with existing restore points.
    e.    Click OK, and then click
    Restart.
Note: Reset the computer to start as usual
After you have finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:
    a.     Click Start, type
msconfig.exe in theStart Search box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click
    Continue.
    b.
On the General tab, click the
Normal Startup option, and then click OK.
    c.     When you are prompted to restart the computer, click
    Restart.

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

I am running Windows 7 and have tried to install iCloud.  No matter what instructions I follow, I still get the error message "This Apple ID is valed but is not an iCloud account."  How can I resolved this?

I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. I checked, and at least one other user is having the same issue. I'll attempt to copy/paste the Support request url: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4430653?tstart=0

  • Apple Mobile Device Support will not install! Any answers re rollback issue?

    Hi,
Im running Windows 32bit and trying to install the latest Itunes version 10.5.1.42 after a few attempts i have managed to install all of it apart form Application Modbile Device Support (AMDS), therefore meaning that i can not sync with my new Iphone.
Essentialy when it gets to installing AMDS it rolbacks. It can create the folders ok and but does not copy any drivers into the folders. All the other Apple folders in common files directory are ok and populated and work. I tunes work - just doesnt let me connect my phone as AMDS is empty.
I have noticed a few threads regarding this issue over the years and tried lots of the suggestions:
completely uninstalling Itunes and all traces of associated apple products. Manually removing residual files. Done this lots and lots of times, Itunes etc will install,  AMDS will not
    checked various permissions
Ensured Windows updates are all up to date
    Removed other mobile phone software
    changed msconfig settings
Im just going around in circles now. I cant bear the thought of running thorugh another uninstall of Itunes and ten watching it install again only to see the roll back bar appear and reverse!
    Any idea people?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component, such as Apple Mobile Device Support, won't install normally.
In your case I suggest you start with a clean download of the setup file using the direct link. If reinstalling AMDS alone doesn't work try tearing everything down again.
If that fails try the advice on rolling back to the last build of iTunes that worked for you.

  • Apple Mobile Device Support won't install, keeps rolling back..

I'm using Windows 7 64bit and i have everything updated. Since I've upgraded my iTunes to version 10.1, I can't sync my iPod Touch with it anymore.
Each time I plug my iPod in,
    - the iPod could be detected by windows but not iTunes, and I keep getting the same error message " "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64bit version of iTunes""
    - my iPod shows up as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" in devices and printers
After searching through the internet, I've tried many fixes but none of them worked. I've tried,
    - downloading the latest iTunes and uninstalling it and reinstalling it again and again
    - uninstalling step by step and completely removed everything as guided by this website (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923)
    - extracting the AMDS MSI file from the iTunes64setup and run it separately
    - copying the registry files and the whole Apple Mobile Device Support folder from a Vista machine as recommended in some websites
    - creating a new user account with admin rights and reinstalling iTunes again after completely removing everything
I've read a post (http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2531860) in which the user encounters a similar problem as well, and apparently the user solved this problem by replacing the files in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\netaapl64.infamd64_neutral26aa9fb28983e9b5
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\usbaapl64.infamd64_neutral36363f69e6e22c1b
with files he had extracted from the CAB files within the AMDS MSI installer from the iTunes64Setup download.
But the problem is, whenever I try to extract the netaap164 and usbaap164 files from the AMDS MSI installer, using WinRAR, it says that the archive is corrupted and thus I won't be able to extract these files out.
Can anyone give me any suggestions or teach me what to do? I'm really stucked and lost now. Thanks in advance. =)

After a couple days searching the internet for a solution I pieced togetherwhat my problem was from several forums and fixed it; maybe my solution/problemis similar to all of yours. (NOTE: I’m running Windows XP Professional, 32-bit,with Service Pack 3 – so you’ll have to translate my issue into your Windows 7format because I have no idea how to operate things is that version of Windows.)
I traced the error to the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver under"Universal Serial Bus Controllers" as others have too (everything inthe iTunes installation would install perfectly well except for Apple MobileDevice Support). However, my problem wasn't with the driver itself -- I had amissing .dll file on my computer for the Hardware Update Wizard (whenever Iwould 'right click’ any USB driver and select "Update", HardwareUpdate Wizard would not open; nothing would happen).
So, I went searching for this problem next, and I found this website: http://kf.livejournal.com/208963.html?view=2699587#t2699587
The page suggests that the problem is a missing .dll file called “newdev.dll”that should be located in “C:\WINDOWS\system32\” (again, I don’t know theequivalent folder for Windows 7, so someone else will need to find out where “newdev.dll”belongs) – I did a search of the .dll file on my computer and found it missing. However, I found another copy of it on my computer using “Seach Everything” (foundhere: http://download.cnet.com/Everything/3000-2379_4-10890746.html)– but, you can also use the Windows Search tool. There were copies located in “C:\Windows\system32\dllcache”and “C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386”. (I would suggest searching for itrather than locating it manually in Explorer in case its in a hidden folder.)
I copied one of the preexisting files of “newdev.dll” and pasted it into “C:\WINDOWS\system32\”.Then I tried re-installing Apple Mobile Device Support and it worked (norolling back installation). When I plugged my iPhone back into my USB “AppleMobile Device USB Driver” reappeared under “Universal Serial Bus controllers”in “Computer Management” – all I had to do was “Enable” it again and I hadaccess to my iPhone in iTunes again.
Also, I had copied a preexisting file of AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi to mydesktop prior to uninstalling everything, so when I tried to reinstall iTunesand Apple Mobile Device Support failed to install all I had to do later when Ifound the solution was reinstall AMDS. If you do not have a copy of “AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi”try completely uninstalling everything (like so many other forums suggest, asdoes Apple, here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925),and reinstall iTunes with the Hardware Update Wizard .dll file replaced. (I can’tsay if this entire reinstallation will work since I only had to install AMDS.)
Hope my problem was your problem as well.

    help!!!!

You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try a standalone install of AppleMobileDeviceSupport. It may still fail to install but if so you may get useful error messages as to why not.
