ISE 1.3 Rollback and ISE 1.2 Backup

Hi All,
I am curious to know about following related to ISE
1) ISE 1.3
    Once we installed ise 1.3, can we rollback to ise 1.2.0 or do we need to re-image it
2) ISE 1.2
    If I take backup of ise 1.2.0, will it include backup of certificates also ?

    1. Without more specifics it is hard to determine actual issue. It may be possible that if configured in same subnet that asymmetric traffic caused connections to fail. A key enhancement in ISE 1.3 is to make sure traffic received on a given interface is sent out same interface.
    2. Common use cases for using different interfaces include separation of management traffic from user traffic such as web portal access or to support dedicated profiling interfaces. For example, you may want employees to use a different interface for sponsor portal access. For profiling, you may want to use a specific interface for HTTP SPAN traffic or possibly configure IP Anycast to simplify reception and redundancy of DHCP IP Helper traffic. Another use case is simple NIC redundancy.
    a. Management traffic is restricted to eth0, but standalone node will also have PSN persona so above use cases can apply for interfaces eth1-eth3.
    b. For dedicated PAN / MnT nodes it usually does not make sense to configure multiple interfaces although ISE 1.3 does add support for SNMP on multiple interfaces if needed to separate out. It may also be possible to support NIC redundancy but I need to do some more testing to verify. 
    For PSNs, NIC redundancy for RADIUS as well as the other use cases for separate profiling and portal services apply.
    Regarding Supplicant Provisioning issue, the flows are the same whether wireless or wired. The same identity stores are supported as well. The key difference is that wireless users are directed to a specific auth method based on WLAN configuration and Cisco wired switches allow multiple auth methods to be supported on same port. 
    If RADIUS Proxy is required to forward requests to a foreign RADIUS server, then decision must be made based on basic RADIUS attributes or things like NDG. ISE does not terminate the authentication requests and that is handled by foreign server. ISE does support advanced relay functions such as attribute manipulation, but recommend review with requirements with local Cisco or partner security SE if trying to implement provisioning for users authenticated via proxy. Proxy is handled at Authentication Policy level. CWA and Guest Flow is handled in Authorization Policy.  If need to authenticate a CWA user via external RADIUS, then need to use RADIUS Token Server, not RADIUS Proxy.
    A typical flow for a wired user without 802.1X configured would be to hit default policy for CWA.  Based on successful CWA auth, CoA is triggered and user can then match a policy rule based on guest flow and CWA user identity (AD or non-AD) and returned an authorization for NSP.
    Regarding AD multi-domain support...
    Under ISE 1.2, if need to authenticate users across different forests or domains, then mutual trusts must exist, or you can use multiple LDAP server definitions if the EAP protocol supports LDAP. RADIUS Proxy is another option  to have some users authenticated to different AD domains via foreign RADIUS server.
    Under ISE 1.3, we have completely re-architected our AD connector and support multiple AD Forests and Domains with or without mutual trusts.
    When you mention the use of RADIUS proxy, it is not clear whether you are referring to ISE as the proxy or another RADIUS server proxying to ISE.  If you had multiple ISE deployments, then a separate RADIUS Server like ACS could proxy requests to different ISE 1.2 deployments, each with their own separate AD domain connection.  If ISE is the proxy, then you could have some requests being authenticated against locally joined AD domain while others are sent to a foreign RADIUS server which may have one or more AD domain connections.
    In summary, if the key requirement is ability to join multiple AD domains without mutual trust, then very likely ISE 1.3 is the solution.  Your configuration seems to be a bit involved and I do not want to provide design guidance on a paper napkin, so recommend consult with local ATP Security SE to review overall requirements, topology, AD structure, and RADIUS servers that require integration.

  • ISE first authorization sucess and then fail (MAB)

    Hi,
    Using ISE 1.1.1 and Switch 3650 12.2(55)SE6.
    I have a client (computer) that should be authenticated with MAB and then the switch port should be asigned a DACL and VLAN 90. I do get
    "Authorization succeeded"  but directly after it fails and I can't figure out why. ISE only shows the successful authentication under "Live Authenticaions".
    As you can se from the log below 802.1x fails, as it should, and then MAB succeed, asigns the VLAN and then fails:

    Is there a problem with the client (computer) or in ISE/Switch?

    First off; thank you for helping me troubleshoot this problem.
    I think the "IP-" part of "IP-ACL-IWMAC" is beeing added automaticly (in the switch maby?). I see this behaviour on other dACL too. I did not change the name of the ACL.
    You seem to have a valid theory about the icmp statement. I changed it to "permit icmp any any" and it seems to work. But I can't explain why this is happening.
    When I look at the debugs I see this difference

  • Wireless guest access with CWA and ISE using mobility anchor

    My team is trying to demo wireless guest access using CWA with an ISE server.  We appear to be hitting an issue when combining this with mobility anchoring.
    When we don't use a mobility anchor the authentication goes off without a hitch seemingly proving that the ISE configuration is sound.  The test laptop associates and gets redirected, auths, moves to the RUN state and access to the network is granted.
    When the mobility anchor is enabled, the test laptop does get redirected, authentication is successful, but the process does not fully complete, as on the foreign controller the user is in RUN state whereas on the anchor the user is still stuck at CWA required.
    Now, I've read the L2 auth occurs between the foreign controller and ISE, and the L3 auth occurs between the anchor controller and ISE, but this does not appear to borne out in packet captures of the process where both parts of the auth seems to go to and from the foreign controller and ISE.
    I'm curious to know if anyone else has come across this issue, or has ideas where I should be looking in the config or debugs to find the root cause.
    When setting up the controllers and ISE this guide (linked below) was used and the controllers are 2504 controllers on 7.5 series software and ISE is on the latest 1.2 patches:

    To me it seems to be mobility related, but the authentication flow does seem to be off compared with what the guide says.

  • WLC and ISE guest access COA

    We are migrating to ISE for guest access and are having problems with the COA being delivered after a successful authentication.  ISE attempts to send it but nothing changes on the WLC.  The message in ISE is Dynamic Authorization failed and a message that ISE didn't receive a response from the NAD, verify communication.  What is odd is the original guest request comes in from the IP address of the service port on the WLC but anything doing with the COA is seen from the management.  I have both IP's defined for the device in ISE.  I am about to do a session reauthentication within ISE and the WLC applies the changes.  I have verified that RFC 3576 is enabled, but the show radius rfc3576 stats shows no values.  The WLC is running 7.6.130.  I have attempted to debug on the WLC side to see if the message is even being delivered but non the debugs i have attempted seem to offer any good information.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi Joe,
    I dont really know what you are trying to do with the COA , as it is used in the CWA solution and BYOD solution as well. But even before trying that , I would advise you to go step by step and solve the n/w issue first. You are able to see the request from service port which should not happen because then the incoming/outgoing traffic takes different path. You must be facing this situation as you might have some network routes matching ISE subnet/Ip address in the GUI>Controller>Network routes as there is no need of those routes. If the service port needs to be used during controller down scenario then use a laptop in the same subnet of Service port ip and connect to the service port.

  • ISE 1.1.1 and AD connect failure

    Hello,
    I'm trying to join ISE to my AD. i have a linux vm as my time source for both AD/DC ( a vm) and ISE(actual appliance), both have sycn and time is the same on ISE and AD. I've opened all the ports and took off NAT between the two.
    i get a successful join message, then it says "joined to domain but not connected"
    i've turned off the windows firewall just in case.
    in ISE i see:
    base.bind.cache can't resolve LDAP service provider for test.com, check DNS
    base.bind.healing disconnect reconnect failed
    osutil module=LDAP SASL bind to ldap/[email protected] GSSAP mechanism with LDAP error invalid credentials
    network.state favorite DC marked as dead
    but i see other information that is being pulled from the domain correctly.
    everything is in DNS.
    any clues?

    I recently ran in to this issue and here is what I did :
    Did a "netstat -a -p tcp" on the Windows domain controller. Saw that Port 389 (LDAP) wasnt enabled (not sure on why this happened however). Got in to Windows services console (services.msc), "Stopped" and "Started" the "Active Directory Service". Checked with netstat to see if the port was open now, it was. I did a test from ISE and later "Joined" the AD, it turned successful!
    Other options to look for:
    Its evident that this errror corps up when ISE has problem with the LDAP service. So to resolve this, here are somethings to look at/do :
    (1) Check connectivity between the ISE and the DC.
    (2) Check if ISE can resolve the DC name (from the CLI mode)
    (3) Check if the NTP is set properly on ISE (Administration -> Settings -> System Time)
    (4) Check if port 389 (LDAP) is open on the domain controller.
    (5) See if a router/Firewall is blocking the LDAP port
    The "Detailed" test under "Test Connection" from ISE gives verbose information about the failure cause.

    Hello,
    I need to know what are the features I will lose for the wireless users, if I did not use a WLC deployment (Using autonomous AP), knowing that I'm using last code of ISE1.1.1.
    Also in case of no WLC, can I use Inline posture node or I have to use WLC in this case ?

    So I understand from that COA is supported on the Cisco Switch and it provides this to the wired client, while this is not supported on the AP (although it is connected after that to a switch) and we will need WLC or inline posture, but I believe that the inline posture will be added after the switch so setup will be AP-----Switch---Inline posture---Core and ISE, so why the Inline posture can provide the CoA to the wireless clients while the switch can't do that ?
    Note : I assumed a lot of facts in the above statement so please correct me if any is wrong

  • ISE version 1.3 and static route not working

    This command works without any issues with ISE version 1.1 and 1.2:
    ip route 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.255 gateway 127.0.0.1
    However, it does NOT work in ISE version 1.3.  See below:

    So it appears that there is no option to lock down access to the shell now that the command that you used to use is no longer valid. What is worse is that there isn't an option to create an ACL in the shell that you could attach to the interface. So I would recommend that you create a defect with Cisco TAC and get this re-added or request that ACL functionality is added. 
    For the GUI (in case you were not already aware of this), you can restrict access from Administration > Admin Access > Settings > Access > IP Access

    They should receive their username/password either from a sponsor directly (corporate AD user which prints the credentials) or through a SMS.
    The credentials will be created by the sponsor, using the sponsor portal on the ISE.
    Now to the questions:
    Is it correct that the foreign WLC (i.e. the WLC within the internal corporate network), should be set to no L2 and L3 security on the guest WLAN, to avoid having the foreign WLC contact the ISE and all traffic be forwarded directly to the anchor WLC?
    Is it correct that the anchor WLC (i.e. the WLC in the DMZ), should be configured with 802.1X/WPA2 L2 security and the ISE servers as the RADIUS servers on the guest WLAN, to ensure that the client is correctly authenticated/authorized by the ISE?
    When a guest logs on, how can I ensure that only one device (MAC address) is allowed per user?
    As it is now, a guest is able to log on with (I assume) an unlimited number of devices, using the credentials they have received.

  • WLC+SSID with PSK/no PSK and ISE with User Banner

    We force users connected with PSK to land on Agreement page with click OK to continue option. Nomadix appliance is used for the agreement page.  How can we do this using ISE?
    The communication with ISE and WLC looks like is through Radius(old NAC was using SNMP) so videos show using 802.1x on SSID and enable NAC.
    Quetsion is doesn't this force SSID to use Certs? so how can PSK can come into play?

    you're mixing a lot of concepts. ISE is both a Radius authetnication server and a posture-assessment center (on radius and not snmp anymore indeed).
    Radius is often linked with 802.1x on a WLC, it achieves higher security. It does not necessarily involve certificate if using PEAP for example.
    However, if you want to keep your SSID with PSK, it's a different story. What you just need is a login page with an acceptance button right ?
    The WLC can do it on its own.
    Add a layer-3 security "web policy" of type "passthrough" on your SSID config. It will display a page with an acceptance. You can customize the text or also customize the page and load it on the WLC as well. (WLC config guide for mroe info on those steps)

    ISE does not interoperate with Cisco Secure ACS deployments. The Cisco Identity Services  Engine can work in tandem with Cisco NAC Manager to provide the same  profiling service as the NAC Profiler, which has reached end-of-sale  status.
    Existing Cisco Secure ACS customers using network  access can easily migrate to the Cisco Identity Services Engine platform  using migration part numbers and tools. However, existing Cisco Secure  ACS customers using TACACS functions will not be able to migrate to the  current version of ISE for network device identity management which is  often acceptable for customers who prefer to keep user and network  identity on separate systems.

  • Floating License for Vivado and ISE

    I am currently working on generating the bit file for Spartan 6 XC6SLX150. It was mentioned that Evaluation version of Xilinx and Vivado does not support this particular part number. Therefore we  happened to get a floating license for Vivado. It was mentioned that once the Vivado license is upgraded the Xilinx ISE would be updated and the part number will be available in Xilinx to generate the bit file. The software was set up in window 8. After the installation procedure was completed the license was not updated. Any insight on this

    Starting from Vivado 2014.2, new Edition purchases will receive two license entitlements, a certificate-based entitlement that may be used with ISE 14.7 or previous versions, and an activation entitlement for Vivado tools. Earlier to 2014.1, tool
    subscribers used to receive a single certificate license that enabled both ISE and Vivado. 
    So if you have purchased new Vivado Design Suite (2014.2 or later), you will also get license for ISE which doesn't need to be updated since ISE 14.7 is the last version of ISE and no further versions will be released.

  • Difference between ACS and ISE

    What is the big difference between the ACS and the ISE? We just purchased an ACS server to start locking down ports on our switches and use the Radius functions to better secure our wireless environment. It has been ordered but not yet arrived. I had a discussion with management today about preventing the IPads / IPhones / Smartphones / etc. of the world from accessing the network. If the user knows the credentials for getting their laptop onto the network then they can use these same credentials to get their IPad on the network. How do we detect and prevent is the current question.
    In discussing with others the ISE comes up. The questions now become what is the big difference between this and the ACS. Do they work together or independently since they both seem to have "radius on steroids". Can I configure the ACS to do the same functions? I figure this will have to be something on a MAC address level anyway. Oh and one other thing. My wireless infrastructure is not Cisco.

    To put it simply I usually say ACS = RADIUS, ISE = NAC.
    ISE will do RADIUS functions as well as NAC functions. Eventually you'll probably see ACS go away and be simply replaced by ISE.
    ISE will do posturizing and profiling of a device to see if it truly meets requirements to be on a certain VLAN. For your example if you were to my credentials on my own smart device I would have access. ISE could profile this device to see if it truly is a corporate owned device or not. If it wasn't ISE can switch the network that the device connects to, say a guest network.
    ISE can also do captive web portals for wired/wireless guest access.
    I wouldn't rely on any type of MAC address authentication as I can easily spoof that.
