Issues Wtih CR XI Dev and VS2005

I am not sure if this is the right area to post this but I am very confused about this cr xi dev and .net install. OK, Here it goes. I purchased the cr xi dev edition and installed it on my local machine on top of the bundled vs 2005 edition. I am able to build reports in the full version and see them on the local machine. I then tried to build several deployment projects to send the runtime files to the development web server. It only seems to want to run the vs version of things. I have included all the ver xi merge files hoping to get it to work. (no luck) I then tried to install the full product on the web server to see if that would do it, now it loads the report but the button for the export and print don't work (infact none of the tool bar buttons show) they say object not supported. I think it's using the vs ver 10.2 stuff. I followed all the steps for setting up a deployment with the needed files with no luck. I even uninstalled vs 2005 and cr xi from the local machine and reinstalled leaving out the vs 2005 cr stuff still didn't work.
What I really want to do is:
1. Set up my local machine with vs 2005 and cr xi developer 2. Create reports in the cr developer and save them inside the vs project3. deploy and install the project on the web server with runtime so users can acces thier reports from the web siteAny help would be great. I have run out of time and things to try.

XI is not compatible with VS 2005, you need XIR2 which is a free upgrade from XI and is available for download here:

Special Characters issue in DEV and QAS

Hi,
I am uploading a file that has special characters (Japanese).
In the DEV system the special character is converted to #. Which the business wants.
In QAS system the special character is not converted and is as it is, which makes the business users difficult to find out if any speical characters are there and they don't want the special character as it is
The file consists millions of record with a possibility of four or five records with special characters
The special characters on keyboards is not an issue.
The programs in DEV and QAS system are same and the file tested is also the same but different results.
Tried in Tcode SNLS to find something but didn't know what and where to look into.
What could be the issue in this? Looks like this is Basis issue but would like to know if anyone can let me know.......

i want to check ur open dataset statement in the program which is being used here if at all in ur case.
Can you please check the relavant code page in both the D and Q systems and search with the appropriate hexa decimal values(for the special characters ) in both the systems ..
u can use code page by tcode scp ..
ex -> as u say a special char sp1 is having entry in q and code page which is being used (like 4200 )
is not having in d03 .
then if in d03 this page has no entry then it shows as # , since it is showing in q then it has an entry over there. this is my guess..
so if at all the client wants not to see this special char's , u need to remove them from this code page.. and check ..
Cant say if this can solve but u can take this as one more way of dealing with code pages and special chars....

Any issues with having Personalization in Dev and not Production

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any issues with having Personalization configured in our Dev and not Production? If you run a create a query or Web Template in Dev with personalization and transport it to production which doesn't have personalization will that be a problem?
Anyone?

It should not be a problem.
Personalization just saves values for a variable in an ODS on the current server. The values don't get saved along with the query, they just reference the query ID (if saved for the query only).

Is ST-PI and ST-A/PI needs to be installed in DEV and Quality Systems.

Is ST-PI and ST-A/PI needs to be applied to DEV and Quality Systems of ERP and BW.
I understand that ST-PI and ST-A/PI are necessary for Production Environment.
Is it recommended to install or upgrade the same in Dev and Quality Systems of ERP and BW.
Because I believe it is always good practice to keep all systems Support Packages including ST-PI and ST-A/PI the same in the same Landscape. (But could not find any documents from SAP.)

you can get into the problems which I have said if you dont implement that,also many support packs do have their dependencies on ST-PI and ST-A/PI and seriously I havent heard people implementing this on prod and not dev and qa....I have worked on with many big clients but never heard this
Also if you ignore whatever I have said,still it is still recommended that you never apply anything directly on Production,It is always better if you first implement on dev and qa and see if you are facing any issues while implementing...so its always better to implement on dev and then qa
and It doesnt take too much of time,so that should not be an issue after all

Report working in different ways in BI Dev and BI production

Hi Expert,
I have created a Report in which i am giving input to the variable(Date input) and using this i am displaying all the values that is till the date that i entered, and it is working fine in BI dev, but in BI production it is showing only data that is equal to supplied date only.
Although i had checked all the restrictions and variables are as it is transported.
if you have an idea please share your knowledge please...

Hi,
Are you using this date variable in the global filter or in any of the local KFs?
Are you using the operand 'less than or equal to' for getting all the values less than or equal to this date?
Is this operand same in both the systems?
Is there data in production prior to the date range that you have entered?
Can you check the information on the report output to find out what value is captured in this date variable?
What is the last changed date of the queries in dev and Production?
I hope any of the above should give a clue to solve your issue.

免 Chaines Char not accepted in QA system, working fine in Dev and PROD

Hi Experts,
I am stuck withchines char e.g. 免
BW QA is not accepting it, I can see the PSA data 免 converted to #, where as same records show proper 免 in BW DEV and PROD.
I checked the data in source system (RSA3) properly showing 免.
I rechecked the SM59 RFC setting in QA and compare with DEV.
All system are unicode supported.
Please help to resolve.

Looking for libxtst-dev and libxtst6 for Solaris 10 x86

I am trying to compile Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net) on a Solaris 10 x86 1/06 system and need the libxtst-dev and libxtst6 libraries. I believe these are part of XFree86. I searched Google and found these on GnuSolaris.org as Debian-based packages (http://www.gnusolaris.org/archive/elatte-testing/x11/libxtst-dev). First off I do not know how to install these Debian-based packages but more importantly question their compatibility with my OS. So are the libraries I need available for Solaris 10 and if so how can I get them? Thanks.

Ok, I tried the newer version of the beta audiohd backport and it almost works on the Optiplex 960. The only problem is the that "internal speaker" and "headphone" button functions on the audio control GUI are reversed, functionally. Tacky but acceptable. This is version audiohd-2008-10-15. On the Optiplex 755, this rev still will not shut off the internal speaker no matter what you do.
I can work with the audiohd beta, until Sun comes out with a new rev of the audiohd patch. The video controller issue is still a problem. No screen blanking. No 1900x1200 resolution. Not acceptable. :-)

It provides a direct connection between development and transport administration. The transport workflow manages the transport process, determines the user for each individual step automatically, and then displays an interface which they can use to perform the task directly.
It is an efficient method of transporting a selected number of requests into a group of transport targets, and uses clearly defined approval steps to ensure the quality of your target systems. The requests can be transportable change requests, Customizing requests, relocation transports or transports of copies. The transport targets do not need to be located on defined transport routes. However, the transport workflow can involve some risks, caused by the dependencies between transport requests:
Import sequence
It is important that you import requests in the correct order, so that development work is up-to-date in the target system.
Incompleteness
It is important that the functions transported in the transport proposal are complete; otherwise errors may occur in the import system.
A request is not imported, but it contains an important data element. You use another request to transport a table that references this data element. Since the referenced data element does not exist in the target system, activation errors will occur when you import the second request.
The transport workflow is a generic workflow. Its ability to process the transport route configuration in TMS enables it to adapt itself to any system landscape. This means you can transport multiple requests into multiple targets, even if these targets are not located on the transport routes.
This reduces the amount of work for the transport administrator significantly. The automated nature of the workflow also reduces the likelihood of errors during transports.
You can use the transport workflow in two different ways.
Transport workflow as a transport strategy
If you have production systems in your landscape that can only accept approved transports, we recommend that you use the transport workflow to organize and coordinate the transport process.
To do this, set Workflow-controlled transports as your transport strategy and configure the transport workflow.
When you release a transport request, the transport workflow starts automatically and the screen Create Transport Proposal appears. The requests are then released implicitly when the transport proposal is sent to the transport administrator.
Special transport workflow (mass transports)
You can use the special transport workflow to make transports that do not follow the defined transport routes or that take place outside the normal transport schedule (part of the mass transport strategy). These transports may be corrections made in the development system that have to be transported into the production system without delay.
To use the special transport workflow, set Mass transports as your transport strategy and configure the transport workflow."

Dev and QA pointing to Same SLD

Hi Experts,
We have a situation in our landscape. Just want to confirm if it is right approach or will be face any issue in future.
We have DEV and QA box of SAP PI in our landscape. (PRD under construction)
1. The DEV PI and QA PI are installed on the box and has the same host name. xyz.com
2. When I execute the SXMB_IFR from Dev PI it opens the url like xyz.com:54000.
3. And when I click the SLD it opens the SLD with url xyz.com:54000/sld
4. When I check the SMICM-->Services the http port is 54000
Until this it is fine, but when I login to QA box the following happens
0. QA PI is the system copy of DEV PI.
1. When I execute the SXMB_IFR from QA PI it opens the url like xyz.com:55500 (as already mentioned xyz.com host is same for dev and qa)
2. When I click the SLD link of QA box it opens the url xyz.com:54000
-- it opens the SLD of Dev PI were as i guess it should open the url like xyz.com:55500
3. http port for QA PI is 55500
I can see something is wrong here, but not able to understand it.
Though we are not facing any immediate issue what problems can we expect in future.
How can we rectify it?? any sap note available for this??

As Rajasekhar said ,
Your Project has one SLD for Dev/QA and mounted that SLD in Dev and one SLD for Production, some of the client prefer this approach.
Even in our project also we followed the same.
Since SLD is mounted in Dev ;when you clicked on the SLD it opens the SLD with url xyz.com:54000/sld.
There is nothing wrong in it .

PRD installation in a differenet domain than DEV and QAS

Dear Experts,
I need to install SAP ECC 6 and PI 7.1 on production servers.Our dev and qas servers are running in the domain X(for eg) and the PRD servers are in the domain Y(for eg).All the servers are supposed to be in the same landscape.Do I have to include the prd servers also in the same domain as dev and qas or will it cause any issues running them in different domain ?If it gives issues pls let me know the the kind of issues it will be as I need to give my IT team proper reasons to run all the servers in the same domain.
I know some reasons like servers should be in the same domain if we use common transport directory.
Please let me know if there are any other reasons.

SYSTEM LANDSCAPE - DEV and PROD - refresh

Hi All,
We have a situation like this.
1. Our BW Q&A is a copy of PROD
2. Our BW DEV is not either a copy of Q&A or PROD.
3. We have issue with a particular process chain in PROD and we need to correct (and follow the lanscape..that is want to do the correction in DEV and the transport to QA and then to PROD)
4. Since this particular process chain is not existing in the DEV environment, our Basis team is advising us to check the difference in DEV and PROD for as this process chain concern and then want to refresh it to DEV system so that we can carry out the change/modification.
We don't know really what exactly we need to find the differences between DEV and PROD for this PC and then to inform to Basis team...
Is it correct that since the particular process chain associated with various queries,data targets,update/transfer structures...etc will be over writen / copied / refreshed in DEV system from PROD?
Please advise..Please help..

Yes..This is one of the process chain used in the metachain...Totally there are five chains in the PROD related to this..We need to modify only the second process chain..which we are trying to copy in the DEV and then do the changes...

XI Dev. connected to ECC Dev and ECC Qas

Hello Folks,
I have a question -
We have 2 XI systems: Development, and Production (no QAS)
And 3 ECC systems: Dev, Qas and Prd.
Now we have the XI Dev connected to the ECC Dev.
I'd like to know if it's possible to also connect the XI Dev System to the ECC Qas system.
I mean, to create the RFC dest. in both systems, a new Business System for ECC QAS; and all the necessary config.... and if it won't take problems when we have to transport the Interfaces from DEV to PRD.

just be carefull when you add you QUA config in ID and then when you will transport...
1. in your ID, when will define the config with QUA, do NOT ADD the object to your Scenario.... if for the transport you choose the option "Transport all objects of my Scenario"... else you will have a problem in Prod because of the system QUA. Indeed with transport DEV become PROD but your ECC QUA cannot become ...
2. when you will transport to your PI prod :
- check my first point or use option "Transport by selecting each objects" and choose only object linked link to your DEV.
- delete also the Condition option (if you have one) in the Receiver Determination if in th receivers list you have DEV and QUA.... because after the transport the ECC QUA become nothing.
So yes we can. There is no technical issue.... if you do properly the things !!

Org.structure differs on dev and production

I'm developing a workflow and in one of the steps (activity step), I assign agent using organizational structure (position from HR). The problem is, that the org.structure differs on dev system and on production system. Mainly the IDs of position posts differ. How to solve this? Thanks in advance.

I don't see why you need a custom table?
The org issues aside, all that is needed is to assign your org unit to the task. Then leave the agent assignment blank in your WF. Job done.
The other option is to create a dummy rule, which you thought was to be avoided. I don't agree, it takes 5 minutes, less effort than a table, less non-standard stuff ==> less explaining to people how to maintain & easier to troubleshoot.

Replication would be carried out via transports. The RHMOVE* reports can also be used, or you could even set up an ALE connection between DEV and PRD. However I still would not recommend it. All of these are a great deal of work which only make sense in certain types of environments - certainly not for the sake of a workflow.

Overwriting Dev and Stage DB's with Production creates Missing Dependencies

When I refresh my Dev and Stage environments by restoring the DBs with those from Production, I get numerous Missing Dependency errors.
We have lots of custom WSPs, and I think that the cause is that the production WSPs are overwriting those in the other environments without first retracting/deleting them.
Is there a way to restore without creating these errors?

if the custom WSP is deployed as a sandbox solution, then it'll be included in the content database refresh.
the missing dependency stuff is all about finding GUIDs that SharePoint can't resolve... whether that's a web part or a feature.
The retraction/deletion process doesn't actually clean up contents in the content database (web parts in use, etc)... it just handles the synchronous deployment of the feature between servers. So regardless of how a custom WSP is deployed/updated/etc, missing
dependencies can happen.
The question you need to address, is tracking down the missing dependencies, and determining whether they are still in use in PROD (perhaps the component was removed, but the web part still exists on a page), and if so making sure it's also available in
DEV/TEST... assuming it's necessary... if a web part isn't available in DEV/TEST, maybe it doesn't matter, and maybe the missing dependency isn't an issue.

BOBJ DEV and BOBJ Q.A environments are syncing :(

HI experts,
I am facing an issue i have some folders and repors in bobj dev .but when i log in to bobj q.a i can see the same reports and folder .i did not export them and they are not pointing to same database .if i delete a folder in dev i can see its deleted in q.a ..help me how to resolve
i also created a user in dev and i was not able to login with that user in q.a so it shows database is not same but how come reports and folder are in sync ????????
please help me

Hi,
Did you migrate the whole CMS database from DEV to QA (using database copy or Copy Datasource method)? If yes, you need to delete and recreate your server and cluster entries as copying the datasource wouldn't change the metadata in the CMS database and your target system will be pointing to the source host only.
