It all started when iPhoto crashed...

I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5
I unwisely tried to import RAW images into iPhoto, not realizing they were incompatible and the havock it would wreak.  It crased my system completely and I had the dreaded blank screen of death.  I rebooted in safe mode and repaired my iPhoto library, which had been corrupted.  While I did not seem to lose any data, my machine has never been the same.  A number of issues are recurring.
The first issues I noticed is that Adobe Flash Player no longer works with Safari, instead sites display "Blocked Plug-In" where flash content would run, and I can neither uninstall the old version nor can I upgrade to the new version.  Nothing happens when I press "install" or "uninstall" so I have to quit.
Then I tried to runt the software update on my machine and received a message telling me I am not authorized to do the update, despite the fact that I am the admin and sole user.  I continue to have this issue as well.
I have been trying to upload fies to Dropbox, and cannot get the files to sync through the application.  I also tried to drag and drop to the files to the website, but that just makes Safari crash and nothing is transferred, and the same thing happens when I try to use the single uploader.  The other upload tool just saygs "loading..." and never does.
Solving any of the above would improve my life.  Thank you in advance to anyone willing to take a stab at helping.

  • Uprgraded to yosemite all good but iphoto crashes every time I attempt to upgrade the photo library

    Hi all,
    This is driving me insane.
I have uprgraded to yosemite all good but iphoto crashes every time I attempt to upgrade the photo library:-
I have upgraded to yosemite 3 times in case thats where there problem was - no.
I removed and reinstalled the new iphoto program about 5 times - no avail.
I have installed iphoto library upgrader but it says that my library does not need it.
I have installed iphoto9.1 update but it states that it cannot be installed on the disc as iphoto 9.0 or later must be installed but i have installed the latest version?
I have even upgraded the server and i paid for this.
When i open iphoto in applications it will open then state that i need to upgrade the library - i am happy to do this.
I agree to this then iphoto crashes and closes before doing anything else.
I have also tried holding the option button and opening iphoto but it crashes all the same.
I am at a loss what to do. I could not access my library at all but i managed to find all my pics in finder so i have backed everything up and deleted all the files in the hope this would fix it - nope. Still the same.
Does anyone have any suggestions?? Please oh please, this has taken days and countless wifi hours...
    TIA...

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • My Probook has OS X10.4.11 and I can't seem to find 10.5 to update to, all started when i tired new IPOD Nano and said I needed to update, any help?

This all started when I bought my wife a new Ipod Nano and when I plugged it in the computer told me that I had to update to Itunes 10.4. I went to update and after it downloads I go to open and install it, it says that I have to update to OS X 10.6. So I update to OS X 10.6 and it tells me to update to OS X 10.5. I search for OS X 10.5 and everything is OS X 10.5.1 or later. Any help?

    Hi Darren,
So you purchased (not a disc from a different Mac) OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and installed it, yes? If so, 10.5 and 10.4 are completely out of the picture, unless you have some older software which requires something in 10.4 or 10.5 (but you make no mention of that).
So, with 10.6 installed, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > select your HD and run Repair Permissions. Allow it to finish > quit DU > go to Apple menu > Software Update > and run all the updates there. Repair Permissions again.
    Post back with any issues.

I'm trying to open my itunes but it won't do so. I think it all started when I updated the software on my computer............what do I do?

How are you attempting to open iTunes, and can you describe exactly what happens when you do?
Do you recall just what software update you performed?

  • HT5037 It all started when I couldn't order a Photo Book ... then I had to download Mavericks ... then the i-photo update ... How long DO you have to wait before you know if you actually have downloaded this?

It all started when I could not order a Photo Book ... then I had to download Mavericks ... then I tried to upgrade i-photo ... but it would not take my debit card ... so I had to find a credit card ... then it would download, but it took hours and did not confirm that it had downloaded ... which it hadn't because I still can't order a photo pbook ... then it would download ( but I suspect I may have had to pay for it twice ) .... and now i-photo won't open because it says I need the Library Upgrader ... and it too seems to have stopped halfway through downloading.
I JUST WANT TO ORDER A PHOTO BOOK.  I HAVE THE MONEY.  WHY ALL THE PROBLEMS?  WHY, OH WHY, OH WHY?

Perhaps, as your problem seems to be with the App Store, you need to post on that forum or contact App Store support - there's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.
A small tip: explaining your problem clearly is best. Wrapping it all up in idiosyncratic punctuation and histrionics doesn't make it any easier to understand, and gets in the way of solving your problem.

  • HELP!!!!!-It all started when I updated Itunes

Okay it seems to me that a lot of people are having this problem, but yet no one seems to have found a solution. I have downloaded the newest ITunes a couple of days ago. And then I tried to update my IPOD (20gb click wheel) and it continuly says "Do Not Disconnect." I am at a lost here and very fustrated. This is my second Ipod since my first one crashed (they replaced it at the Apple Store with this one) and this isn't even a year old yet. I was able to Disconnect it successfully, but now certain tracks skip and it tends to freeze. I can't update it or restore it because the computer says "Can't Mount Ipod". I have done the 5 R's and in addition tried all the troubleshooting articles. I have even tried the "Apple Drop"-which works temporarily. And this seems to all have started when I updated Itunes and the Itunes wouldn't recoginze my Ipod. The irony of the whole thing is I see on windows. So anyone can give me some help then please do. Otherwise I swear I am going to go to the Apple Store and throw this at someone.

As posted in another topic by meself...I had similar problem...
Success!!!! Here's how I did it:
    1) Re-named iTunes music folders in my My Music documents, just to avoid any mishaps during the uninstall process. I just called them "Backup" and "Backup2"
    2) if you have the ORIGNAL iPod updater installed on your computer, restore iPod using this updater. If not skip this.
    3) Uninstall iTunes, and any iPod updaters that you have, including the original. Delete any leftover files & folders from the C: drive.
    4) If your iPod is in disk mode, and is available in Windows Explorer, find it and right-click, and select format. Make sure to have the volume type set as FAT32, and do not use quick format. This is really just an extra step, just to be sure that your iPod is clean of any newer software.
    5) Re-boot, and re-install your ORIGINAL software.
I have a 3G 15GB iPod, and do not listen to podcasts. So not having that capability in iTunes is no loss to me. If you have more music in iTunes than will fit on your iPod, you can either manually update iPod, or create a playlist, and set iTunes to only update that playlist (or any others you create later). If you listen to podcasts, and need that functionality in iTunes, you may be out of luck, as oldversion.com does not currently have older versions of iTunes available. If you stil have a setup program for iTunes 5, you may want to back that up as well and re-install that after your original install is complete.
I have re-charged my iPod, and listened to it for a bit, with no song skipping, and all songs I have asked for on it. I'll keep an eye on it over the next couple of days, but it seems like I have cured my sick iPod.

  • Photo recovery when iPhoto crashed while deleting imported images

I was importing images into iPhoto when it finished and asked if I wanted to delete originals or not. I chose to delete originals. As it was finishing the import/deleting the images, iPhoto crashed. I could see the images right before the crash. Upon rebooting iPhoto, the images were gone from my card and not showing up under last import. Where can I find them??? Thanks!

    Greetings,
Sorry to hear about the lost pictures.
My guess would be that there was something wrong with the import process (bad data / corrupt media card in camera, low battery power during import, bad connection with camera, etc.)
Try finding the images on the computer using the File > Find in the Finder as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1995 (maybe they just got misplaced / not fully imported into iPhoto).
Use the picture in that article as an example.  Rather than having "Kind" "Any".  Choose "Kind" "Image".  This will locate any picture at all on your computer.  You can then copy and paste the images (if you can find them) into a new folder and then import that folder into iPhoto.
If you haven't used the camera since you deleted the pictures there is a good chance you can recover them from the camera using data recovery software.
    Here are a few examples:
    http://joesoft.com/products/klix.php
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
    http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products _id=1
You can contact a local Apple Authorized Provider to see if they offer data recovery services: http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
There are many nationwide / worldwide data recovery companies out there.  Here are a few examples:
    http://www.ontrackdatarecovery.com
    http://www.drivesaversdatarecovery.com/
    http://www.totalrecall.com/
Consider using these best practice tips to avoid or minimize the impact of issues in the future:
Do not delete the images off your camera until you have imported your images to the image management program of your choice (like iPhoto), and then backed up your images (like with TimeMachine)
Reformat the camera's media card using the camera itself between uses (check your camera's manual for how to do this).
Ensure your camera has a full charge on the battery before you import (Or run off of AC if possible).
Ensure the date and time on the camera are correct before importing.
If you are using a media card reader and are getting regular failures, try using a different reader or the camera itself (The same is true about importing directly from the camera. Try a reader instead.)
Plug the camera directly into the computer with a solid connection, no loose cables.  Don't use a hub.
Alternate between multiple media cards during photo shoots (trips, etc) so that if one card goes bad (they are just little bits of plastic after all) you don't lose the entire shoot.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Why Presenter erase all MP3 when Powerpoint crash ???

I want to know why Presenter erase all MP3 files if Powerpoint crash ?
    step by step...
1- Someone came in my studio and record his presentation.  I took him 2 hours.
2- When finish, I click "save" and close the recording windows.
3- Back in Powerpoint, I click the save button of Powerpoint... and... Powerpoint crash.
4- In windows explorer, I see the Powerpoint and the folder create by Adobe Presenter for the audio files with all the MP3 in that folder.
            -"Yes, everything is there"
5- I re-open the Powerpoint of the client.
6- Click on modify to see if all the audio are there
    7- Haaaaaaaaa, no audio.
-"Ok, I just have to reimport all the MP3 one by one"
8- I try to do that and.... Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... the folder with all the audio has been deleted by Presenter !!!!  I lost all the audio !!!!!!
Ok,  that's not what really happen.  Because I know that sometimes Adobe Presenter decide for me that it want to delete ALL my audio files.  So after step 4 (before re-open the Powerpoint of the client) I made a backup of the folder that contains all the mp3.
Can someone tell me why Presenter decide to erase all audio files when it crash or when it has a problem ????
If I did not make a backup, I would have lost all the work of the client...
And can someone help me with my other post (august 2010)
    Audio files name
All the 60 slides of my client have a name that doesn't match with the slide.  So because Adobe Presenter crashed et erase all the audio files, I have to re-import them slide by slide.  But with all those bizarre name, I have to listen each files and find the good slide that match with them.  why the mp3 don't have a name that match the slide number.  It would be very very very easiest !!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

What version of Presenter are you using? I know this was a bug with Presenter 7.0.0, and maybe 7.0.1. I've not heard of it happening since then, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. It may be worth a discussion with Adobe Support about what happened and why Presenter would delete your audio files. You can reach them at 800-945-9120.
As to you other post, I did reply to it, but Presenter's functionality can't be changed. When you publish the presentation the audio files that are created do have a naming convention that associates them with the slide they are on, but in the build phase, it uses some cryptic method that I've never been able to figure out. So, for that reason, as well as a handful of other non-Presenter related reasons, I've taken to just using an Audio recording/editing application to deal with my audio, and then importing to Presenter. This allows me more control over the naming convention, as well as more control over the quality and settings used to record and/or encode the audio. It may seem like more work at first, but I feel like I can get through the audio portion of Presenter faster when I use a tool built for audio. Just remember to save or split your audio into individual files for each slide. Name them sequentially and then you can import them all at once into Presenter by selecting the first slide you wish to import to, browsing to the audio files and selecting them all for import.

  • PC guy trying to backup all Wife's iPhotos, crashes...pls help.

    Hi Everyone,
My Wife is camar crazy and shes got almost over 100Gb of photos in iPhoto. I need to back everything up...
I've read all the topics on simply moving the iPhoto folder to the external, which works. Only thing is it crashes after about 2/3 GIG's of transfer. I've resorted to copying each folder from within iPhoto manually across, which works perfectly... but it is EXTREMELY time consuming.
    Is there a better solution?
    Thanks

Make sure the disk your aiming to is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex - and much better:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Lost photos when iphoto crashed during import

I downloaded 92 photos from my camera to iphoto 7.1.5, I deleted the photos on the camera at prompt, iphoto then crashed, and the imported photos did not appear in iphoto.   The previous import shows up as the latest import.

You can recover the files from the camera with an app like MediaRecover

  • Firefox tells me it can harm my computer and when I accept it it says that maybe I don't have permissions to access it. It all started when I accidentaly installed "Babylon" search engine tool bar, when I removed it, the system started blocking Firefox

I accidentally installed the Babylone search engine tool bar while dowloading a program and when I realized that Firefox had been substituded I tried to get back and even ran a restore for the system. Since then, everytime I try to reisnstall Firefox, there is a message that says that Firefox can harm my system and when I ignore it, it says that maybe I don't have permits or licenses for it. I am frustrates as even the menu bar from my alternative search engine, Google Chrome, has disappeared.
Please write back and tell me what to do

You may also need to create a new profile in case more files were damaged by closing down Firefox that way.

  • HT1349 I lost everything on my old computer, so I ended up buying a new one. I formatted my harddrive by accident. It all started when I upgraded to itunes 10. Ok I see I have all my Data by looking down on the data bars at the bottom. So what do I do nex

I lost all Data on old computer, I accidentally formatted hard drive. I was right in the middle of syncing my iPhone with computer, but computer was full so I had to delete some programs. Well I purchased new computer and tried to sync but nothing happened. I know I need to choose the right menu command but I'm a fraid to loose all Data on my phone. Please Help

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.
