Itunes screen freezes when trying to load songs in new ipod shuffle

I just bought an ipod shuffle for my mother but when I try to load songs from itunes, the screen just seems to freeze until I disconnect shuffle.
I tried to restore it but it doesn't work ("error 1418" is all I can get).
I don't understand why since I have no problem with my ipod nano on the same computer.

Be sure to use a rear port on your Shuffle, it needs full power to work.

  • When trying to load onto my sons ipod shuffle i keep getting the message 'the ipod update server could not be contacted'. The ipod has never been used and has been sitting in a drawer.  It seem to charge but I cannot load any music for him.

Should say, I have tried altering the LAN setting to 'automatically detect settings', updating itunes etc but nothing has worked.  I have a very unhappy 6 year old!

You should not get that message if you are simply trying to load the shuffle with songs from your iTunes library.  If iTunes is trying to Update or Restore the shuffle, and you get that message, try the suggestions in this article

  • Itunes freezes when trying to transfer songs to ipod

I attempted to sync my ipod to my itunes and it was going fine for the first 3000something songs and then itunes froze for a while, along with the rest of my comptuer. It wouldn't even allow me to force quit the program. After a few minutes, an error message popped up telling me that there was an error in attempting to coping my songs to the ipod and then it said "(-69)". I've tried to drag the songs on manually and in chunks. I thought it might have been a specific song that was messing up the transfer, so I didn't add the song at which the transfer stopped, but this didn't help.
Does anyone have any suggestions? my itunes did something similar (freezing for a bit and error message) when it says it's "determining gapless playback."
    Thank you.

Hate when that happens. Just follow the steps in this article and it should fix it.
    Good Luck,

  • ITunes freezes when trying to add songs to 30GB video iPod

    Here's my situation exactly:
I just bought a 30GB Video iPod with some songs and videos already uploaded onto it. After much reading, I found out how to get the songs from the iPod onto my computer so I could put them into my iTunes library. I added some songs and videos of my own to my iTunes library and tried to update my iPod. The iTunes program says do not disconnect-- updating iPod but my iPod doesn't say anything. The funny thing is that the actual iPod says do not disconnect until I open iTunes and try updating it, then the do not disconnect msg goes away on the iPod. I left my computer on for about 12+ hours straight while iTunes said Do not disconnect.. woke up the next morning and iTunes was frozen-- no new songs on the iPod. What could the issue be exactly? I have slight issues with my usb ports-- for example; sometimes they do not recognize things plugged into them (memory sticks, printers)... BUT it does recognize my iPod-- it shows up in my computer as a removeable disk drive or something, plus as soon as I plug it in the iPod says do not disconnect. I definitely need help though... I'm dying to put some songs of my own on this thing.
Things I have tried so far:
Deleting and installing iTunes and everything else again
Restarting computer and iPod-- of course
Tried plugging it into diff. usb ports

I'm assuming the usb hardware problem may be a good possibility because I've always had problems with my usb ports. I can't get a printer to work or those Scandisk things. My assumption is perhaps u can take files from things plugged into the usb ports but you can't add files/etc to things plugged into the usb ports. I will still attempt what you told me to do. I just don't want to lose what I currently have on my iPod and be stuck with a blank iPod because I use it quite often. Maybe a new computer should be my next purchase? Thanks so much!

  • Error mesage when trying to load songs onto ipod, computer is authorized

my husband and I have 2 different user IDs on vista and when I tried to load some songs from our public itunes directory onto his ipod, an error pops up saying this computer is not authorized to play these songs. When I try to authorize the computer in the itunes store it says, computer already authorized but I continue to get the error. I logged out of my account and back in but it still isn't working. Now when I tried to sync my iphone under my user id on the laptop I'm getting the error message that the computer is not authorized so it can't sync my iphone apps. It worked fine a week ago, this is not a new computer.

I have the exact same problem, meaning I have to reinstall a game I bought in iTtunes Store every time I plug in my iPod.
I just tried the signing out, restart, signing in proces, but it didn't work for me.. any other suggestions how to solve this?
I've been experiencing this problem ever since I updated itunes to 8.1, and even now after updated to 8.2 it's still the same..

  • ITunes 9 freezes when trying to play movie

    G'Day Experts !
Was wondering if anyone can tell me why iTunes 9.03.15 (the latest software) freezes up on WinXP SP3
Have looked through the knowledge base, have done the reinstalls, created a new Apple account, disabled antivirus... nada.
This is on a new hard disc and a new system that has not run iTunes before. Have never seen this problem.
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Itunes 9.03.15
itunes freezes when I play a movie/tvshow. I have to "end task" then re-start Itunes. The movie doesn't play at all. This happened after I downloaded two movies for rental and tried to move them to an older model Ipod video 30GB. The move didn't work so I tried to synch the ipod with no success. Gave up trying to move the movie and tried to watch it on my computer screen and it does not play. This is irrating because now my movie is going to expire in a few hours and I haven't been able to watch it.

  • Itunes keeps freezing when trying to download podcasts

Ok before when i had 6.0 or something like that i was able to download 80 podcasts no problem now i ever since i updated to 7.0 my itunes would freeze everytime i download a podcast and since im subscribe to my podcasts itunes downloads them automatically. I have xp btw. Everytime i download a new software its the same problem, i tried to repair it reinstall it uninstalled it then installed it again, and i get the same thing. The only way itunes will work is if i turn off the internet which i prefer not to do because it might not turn off again. I tried to minimize the amount of podcasts that i download but it freezes anytime it wants. What is going on and how do i fix it?!

I'm having a similar problem. I purchased a brand new HP Pavilion Media Center last week and installed the latest iTunes (7.3.2.6). Basic functionality was fine until I started setting up all my podcasts. If I subscribe to them too fast (ie - click subscribe on 6-10 of them within 10-15 seconds), the whole UI completely locks up and I have to hard boot the computer. Last night I was just updating/downloading a couple subscriptions while reading email and the whole computer locked up again. Very frustrating when it's a new computer!

  • My itunes keeps freezing when I play one song;

I recently bought the album "Madvillainy" on the itunes store and whenever I play the song "Great Day" it freezes my entire computer at the 1:25 mark. If I'm quick I can shut down itunes fast enough to keep the whole computer from freezing up, but otherwise I can't even open the task manager to shut itunes down.
I am also now getting a message that reads "The itunes library folder cannot be saved. An unknown error occurred (-50). This is irritating to me.
Also why isn't there an e-mail address for support?

It's probably a corrupt file. Delete it and contact the iTunes Music Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of this web page and explain the problem to them. Or log into the iTunes Music Store, go to your Purchase History, find the problem track, click the arrow to the left of the track listing, and use the reporting link there.

  • Itunes 7 freezes when trying to update 5G Video Ipod 30G

Ever since I've upgraded to Itunes 7, every time I plug in my 5G 30gig ipod, Itunes will crash, and not update at all. I have tried absolutely everything, and cannot seem to make it work, so my ipod has been essentially not updateable for 2 months. I have about 26Gigs of music and I don't think this should matter.
Toshiba Satellite Pro M70   Windows XP Pro

First uninstall itunes AND quicktime, disable your antivirus then download/install the latest iTUnes from apple.com
Some Toshiba laptops use to have issues with ipods, so goto toshibas site and make sure your model has ALL the updates that apply from the toshiba site
Thirdly there does seem to be some issue with directX and syncing crashing or being REALLY slow to the ipod, so update your directX from Microsoft.com and when syncing the ipod make sure you have itunes showing anything but the new "iPod summery" page, like hit the "Music" Library or something.
Apple is trying to work and fix the issue, just keep in mind iTunes 7 is a MAJOR update/change from iTunes 6 and has only been out barly over a month so they will iRon this issues out over the holiday season

  • Screen freezing when trying to watch BT sports through Apple TV

I got Apple TV in January 2015, when i try to watch BT Sports through my IPad air the screen freezes.  I have moved the router nearer to the devices but it has not made a difference. Anyone have any solutions i could try?

    I have the same problem...
Months ago, when the version 2.0 software was released, I upgraded, because I was happy about Apple TV supporting AirTunes. But, the upgrade was a disaster in that the Apple TV became completely unusable.
Problem 1: Menus would stick forever, whenever displaying "My" content (i.e., my music, my movies), presumably because it was terribly inefficient at building the image slideshow thing to the left
Problem 2: During playback of a video file (again, in "My" stuff), it would just hang or stop completely at seemingly random times.
Anyway, I backtracked to version one of the software, because version 1 has always been rock solid for me.
So, the point is, the software is now on version 2.3, and I downloaded it, and lo and behold, those two problems still exist, which makes the Apple TV again completely useless for the one main thing I use it for...watching stuff from podcast downloads / DVD rips / my music, etc. Was there ever any fix for this?

  • ITunes Freezes when I try to sync my new iPod Touch

I can't sync my new iPod with my iTunes library. I have posted in the iTunes forum, although my title says that I have solved the issue. It isn't, so I'm contemptlating reposting.
I bought a 64gig iPod Touch the other day to replace an old broken iPod. When I try to sync it with my main iTunes library, after a short while (5-500 songs) iTunes freezes and won't shut down. I have on a couple of occasions got a message saying the the computer can't write to the iPod, or the iPod isn't responding, or an "Unknown Error".
It seems to work fine with my laptop.
I found a page on fixing "Unknown Errors" and have tried most of the suggestions.
    I've tried:
*) Uninstalling and Reinstalling iTunes several times
*) Resetting and restoring my iPod several times
*) Updating my drivers - they are all up to date apparently
*) Stopping all unnecessary programs and services from running on start up
*) Creating a new user account and trying to sync my iPod from there. I have successfully managed to sync the iPod with a small number of songs or a film on my own account, so I need to test it with a fairly big library. I copied my main iTunes library into iTunes on the new account. The sync hasn't worked (although it is syncing the same files).
I found a post with a google search that suggested it could be a power drain on my USB port / Bus, or somet fhing like that. Not sure exactly what that means, but it sounded plausible. I have recently upgraded my graphics card.
I did also see a solution posted that suggested formatting the iPod using My Computer and the iPod icon, but I can't imagine that would do anything more than the restore iPod option in the iPod menu?
Can anyone help? Getting a bit fed up now... I've had the iPod a couple of weeks and have barely been able to use it yet.

Are you using security software on your PC? If yes, try to disable the software or check the settings. More info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

  • Program keeps freezing when trying to change library or restore ipod.

Having problems since updating like everyone else! Was missing files, etc.
I am trying to change the library location in preferences, but the program locks up when it is opening the window. Also freezing when I try to add a folder to the library.
I tried to restore my ipod on the summary page and same problem, opening window and it freezes. I have now reformatted my ipod and am trying to start fresh. Even reinstalled software, but no luck.
    Help!

Me too .. very frustrating, spent the last 3 hrs looking for solutions.
Also noticed Apple has suspended downloads of itunes 6 for the time being ... wondering if its a related bug.

  • Trying to load songs on co-workers shuffle

I have an old school 10 gb ipod that I sync up with itunes everyday. I let my coworker listen to toby keith's taliban song on 9/11 and sorely paid for it by her knieving it out of me several hours out of our work day. She's made a list of all the songs she wants from my ipod to her shuffle. When I plug her unit into my usb port it brings up a message to the effect of do you want to sync your library with "coworkers shuffle" thus erasing the scores of songs she has on there currently and replacing with my library. I just want to transfer 20 or 30 songs to her shuffle but after I say no to the delete and replace message the shuffle is nowhere to be found in my itunes screen unlike my ipod that shows up immediately. I just want to leave her songs in tact and add some of mine. Any ideas?

read a previous post, shuffle can only be linked to one library at a time. thanks

  • ITunes keeps closing when I try to resore my new iPod. Help!

    Hi all,
    I'm running a iBook G4 and I've just bought a brand-new iPod.
It all seemed to work alright, but loads of the album artwork on the iPod doesn't match the song, and it's driving me insane, so I decided to wipe the iPod and start over.
BUT, whenever I connect the iPod and click 'Restore' in the iTunes menu, iTunes just closes. Gone. Nothing.
So I can't update the iPod. Also, whenever I click any other part of iTunes, it also disappears.
Anybody got any advice? It's really driving me mad now, I don't know what else to try...
(Oh, also, my new iPod volume bar doesn't appear when I change the volume - surely this isn't right?!)

My new 80GB iPod is doing the same thing. I can't click on anything other than the summary, or iTunes crashes. This happens most of the time, but not quite every time, which makes things even more mysterious. When I do manage to click on something other than the summary, all of the songs under the iPod are grayed out, and it won't let me manually manage them, even though I have that option selected. This has been happening on an eMac running 10.4 with iTunes 7.0.2. When I tried with my dad's powerbook, it didn't happen (also 10.4 with iTunes 7.0.2), but I only tried it once.

  • I tried to set up my new ipod shuffle and a error message popped up saying Ipod not found cannot update.  I can't sync my ipod now but it is showing on itunes.  What should I do?

I bought a new 4th gen ipod shuffle and tried to sdet it up last night.  I installed the latest itunes software and started to sync my ipod, but error boxes kept popping up saying ipod not found cannot sync.  It was showing in itunes, then it would disappear, then it would come back.  I am not very good with computers so I don't know what to do.  Can someone help?

Do you have an iCloud backup?  If you backed up your old phone to iCloud you can go to Settings>General>Reset>Erast All Content & Settings (which will erase your phone), then go back through the setup screens again and when prompted choose Restore From iCloud Backup.  However your backup won't contain everything in your iTunes library (such as your music) so you'll need to be able to sync with your computer unless you purchased everything from iTunes and want to redownload it to your phone.
