ITunes unavailable

I get everything on Apple TV to work but when I go to movies to see what I can rent is says "The ITunes Store is currently unavailable. Try again later." I have been trying for 3 weeks and it keeps saying the same thing. What is wrong and how do I go about getting it fixed. Can someone help??

I also had this problem. I relocated my ATV and did a factory reset. Apparently this sets the firmware back to the original and doesn't connect to the Apple Store. I downloaded and installed the firmware update and now it works correctly and connects to the store.

  • New apple tv shows message 'iTunes unavailable try later'

Haven't been able to complete set-up, home share or anything. Any entry of iTunes ID and password brings up same message.

The Apple itv is showing my home wifi so I had assumed that it was connected.  I am getting no other error messages other than the 'iTunes unavailable' one.  I have no evidence that I'm connected to the Internet or to the LAN in any functional way.

  • Itunes unavailable on apple tv

iTunes currently unavailable on my apple tv. I've tried restarting, restoring, fiddling with my internet (that works on my laptop and phone fine) and nothing works. This has been happening frequently until now, when it won't work at all. HELP ME!!!! I'm about to hurl it out the window!!!

I have this exact same problem, ever since the last major update in September.
I have tried tons of so-called "fixes" posted in these forums such as turning Dolby off (which makes no sense at all), turning Airplay off, rebooting constantly. Nothing works. Tonight I tried to change the Airplay setting that controls whether it plays content directly from the cloud (I have a Apple TV 2), thinking that perhaps Airplay is interrupting the stream in some way. Airplay being "on" in general was a problem before September but the symptom then was that the picture would freeze for a few minutes and audio remained on. Now the symptom is that whatever is playing just drops dead and "iTunes unavailable" displays. Whatever I was playing then starts right back up when I restart the feature (press play again), but give me a break!! For what iTunes charges for their content, this is unacceptable. We'll see if my latest fiddle improves anything, but I have little hope.
As I said before, this never happened (maybe once or twice in years) before last month's awesome upgrade. The one consistent thing I have seen, however, is this problem never shows up if ALL the content is COMPLETELY buffered into the ATV memory. Then it plays back flawlessly. So, to me, it seems that something is disrupting the data download and that something MUST BE due to a change in the software (or it's just a really strange coincidence that happens every time I use ATV). My network/router settings did not change (and yes, I rebooted my router a few times too).
The only thing Apple seems good at any more is consistently releasing upgrades (to iOS, iTunes, and Apple TV) that spur endless functionality regressions and are poorly tested (if at all) before release. Software has never been Apple's strong suit but it's only been getting worse year after year. Only now I'm stuck with a boatload of content on their servers and crappy glitch-filled software to "attempt" to play it with. It just *****.

  • TS3623 Apple TV slow downloading, slow authorizing then says iTunes unavailable

I have two Apple TV boxes in the same house and on the same network connection.  One works GREAT, the other one has started having issues in the last several days.  I choose a tv show or movie and it says downloading ( usually takes several minutes) then it goes to authorizing and never completes the screen defaults to iTunes unavailable - try again later. Any suggestions? I have reset, reboot, and unplugged.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Why is a song I put on my iTunes unavailable?

Several of the CD's that I have loaded into iTunes have songs that do not play. It says unavailable. Why is that? And how can I listen to my music on my MacBook Pro which is my stereo system? Thank you.

It will only work for new purchases you make on other devices/computers.
For past purchases you can either sync them to the iPod or redownload them directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Where are my downloads? iTunes unavailable?

I bought 40 songs in iTunes, however, I couldn't download the songs (well, i got the invoice, yes, but where are my songs?) I get the error message "Unable to check for available downloads. The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later". I have tried now for a few days. Any idea how to proceed? Thanks

  • Apple tv won't play purchased movies. Message itunes unavailable

Getting very frustrated. We have a large library of movies and music which we are unable to watch. We have a good wifi connection, latest software versions, have turned every on and off etc etc but keep getting the same message.  "I tunes is currently unavailable.  Try again  later".  We have been trying for days!!
Not impressed. Is any one else suffering from the same un explained problems.?

    Hello Helen.
There is another thread on this topic here: itunes is currently unavailable
This is happening to loads of people including myself. Haven't been able to access content since last week. My ID won't work, but my husband's will. Tried logging out/in, rebooting ATV, rebooting router - everything - to no avail. From what I'm reading, this problem lies with Apple and everyone is waiting anxiously for them to fix it. As it's Thanksgiving week in the US, I don't know how soon they will fix it. All I know is I'm not spending any more money on Itunes until fixed.

  • Accessing iTunes Store, iTunes unavailable

I am experiencing an odd issue where iTunes is unavailable on my Apple TV and other devices. Unable to access TV shows but can watch trailers on movies and buy them. Just no TV. System status page here: http://www.apple.com/ca/support/systemstatus/ says all is Green. Internet is working fine and just purchased a movie.

    Hello KD7CAO,
I would start with resetting all the settings on your Apple TV by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. If you are still having issues after that, then try and restore your Apple TV.

  • Cannot play movies down loaded from i tunes . get message iTunes unavailable . tried unplugging unit also reset and no change what is wrong with apple tv unit?

Movies & TV shows I have from I-Tunes are currently not able to play on my Apple Tv unit.
I have unplugged numerous times ,updated ,reset modem, put back to factory settings,
logged out and back in numerous times .
all that ends up happening isI get the same message
    I-Tunes unavailable -
    how can this be remedied?

I'm having the same issue on Apple TV 3. I can play the content on my computer, iphone or iPad but I can't on my Apple TV. I just bought Guardians of the Galaxy via my Apple TV and the purchase went through but when I try to play the content I get this error. However I tried renting a movie and guess what? I can play rentals just fine. This is only effecting Apple TV.  Not just movies though, I can't play my iTunes music either. This is BS it's been going on for days now. Tried resetting the appletv to factory defaults and reconfiguring it and nothing.
I Want acknowledgement from apple that there is an issue and they are working to resolve It.
it's a shame, since Steve Jobs passed I've noticed a decline in the quality of work that Apple does. Not a fan of the Post-Steve Jobs UI's that seem to be only half thought-through either.  Why do I enter a URL in what appears to be a raised button in Safari on Yosemite?
Apple better tighten their **** back up or soon the quality will be more on par with what you would expect from Windows or a PC.

  • Why is iTunes unavailable?

I just bought apple tv 2 .  When I tried to watch something I purchased and keep getting the message the iTunes is unavailable.  What can I do to watch something I paid for?

I'm assuming you rented directly via ATV?
What is your actual internet connection www.speedtest.net?
    Wifi or ethernet?
Are you using your ISP's DNS?

  • Authorising computer itunes unavailable

I have a new computer and am trying to authorise iTunes so that I can transfer purchases etc.
Every time I try to authorise the computer it says 'iTunes is temporarily unavailable'. This has been going on for over a week now, anyone know what's going on?

  • Music from iTunes unavailable to iPad.

I am unable to download all my music from my iMac to my iPad.  Why?

  • Netflix and iTunes "Unavailable" - Intermittent

Sometimes, my ATV refuses to connect with Netflix or iTunes.  Other times, connection is flawless.  Unplugging seems to help, but problem recurs after about 15-30 miniutes.

This has been driving me crazy for a while. I turn on ATV2 and the movie menu and Netflix menu are missing. Unplugging the device corrects it, but who wants to do that to get it to work as it should? The ATV is connected via ethernet to my U-verse box (don't even get me started on U-verse!). Anyone have a guess for the cause of this?

  • Itunes unavailable since last night ?

Anybody else having probems ? can use this since last night very very frustrating ?

    Hi stevehull,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would suggest is to log out of your iTunes Store account on your iPhone.
Then restart the device and log in again.

If the above did not resolve your issue, follow the troubleshooting steps in the article below.
The link includes the complete details and screenshots, but I've highlighted a few points for you:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    - Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clicking on Check for Update in your device's Summary page in iTunes.
    - Check and verify that you are in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you are on a 3G capable device, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
    - Check to make sure you have an active internet connection. You can check the User Guide for your device for help with connecting to the internet.
    - Check to make sure other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the internet.
    - Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router
    - If the issue still persists see, iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connectionsoriOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!
