ITunes will log off after setting visualizer

Hi there - I have the newest version of iTunes, and use it quite a bit. With the old version of iTunes I used to be able to set the visualizer and walk away from it and it would keep running through my playlists for hours at a time. Now, with the newest version I'll set it up as I always had, and it will only play a song or two before my screen saver kicks in and logs off of iTunes stopping the music - a real annoyance when I'm used to continuous music. Any suggestions? All of my setting haven't changed (security etc...)...
Cheers
James

  • Computer will log off after so many minutes of no usage

My MacBook Pro will log off or the log off confirmation window will log off after so many minutes of being away from my computer. This happens instead of my computer just going to the screen saver. Any way I can change this setting somehow!?
    Thanks in advance!

I am trying to do a full Time Machine Backup to a new external disk. The backup starts, and it says "Time remaining about 4 days." That seems like a very long time, but the real problem is that the computer "logs off" after a few hours, and the backup stops. The system preferences are set to "Never" for Computer sleep and Display sleep. The computer does not ordinarily log off automatically, but it has done this twice since I started the Time Machine backup.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • L512 keeps logging off after inactivity in spite of settings

I'm running Windows 7 on my L512, and I run things in the background that I don't want to stop. (Seti@home, if you're interested.) I set the Power Manager to never log out under idle settings, and it worked for a couple of years, but recently it logs off after about 10-15 minutes (not sure exactly how long). I *think* there was a Windows update right before the problem started, but since there are *always* Windows updates that could be coincidence. What I want: on plugged in status, the computer should keep running until I shut the top or press-and-hold the off/on button. Can do? Thanks. Oh, and I'm something of a n00b when it comes to computers, so talk to me like I'm your grandma, who I probably resemble. :-)

Maybe this extension can prevent that if it happens when the computer is left unintended.

Maybe also check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.

my HP proONe 400 keeps logging off after approx 2 minutes...Help!

    Hi,
If it's logging you out after 2 minutes of inactivity, here's one thing to check.
Right click on an empty area of the Desktop and select Personalize.  Click the Screen saver link in the bottom right.  In the following window you can adjust the time before the screensaver kicks in the  'Wait' dropdown menu and remove the tick from the box next to 'On resume, display log-on screen'.  Click Apply, then Ok to save the setting change.
    Regards,

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

My Itunes will not launch after downloading and I have tried all the troubleshooting for itunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to system reboot my computer than try to download it again?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

  • ITunes will not launch after upgrade--click, bounce bounce, nada

iTunes will not launch after upgrade--rebooted nothing--2 bounce icon
then shut down all and unplugged, restarted--no change, iTunes still will not launch after upgrade
    iTunes current version
    on imac w/10.6.8

    I have the same issue.
Allready uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, but the same problem occurs.
Icon keeps bouncing, and all that's visible is the first menu-item in the top menu bar, named iTunes. Nothing is clickable though.
The iPhone Configuration Utility doesn't seem to work either, it crashes on uploading an app to my iPhone. I guess it's using some of iTunes' libs or something.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes working again? I'm getting pretty desperate over here...
    Thanks!

  • Logged off after no activity

It looks like I am being logged off after a period of inactivity. I have turned off energy savings and my screensaver, but I still appear to get logged off automatically after some time (I do not know how long, but it seems to be above 15 mins).
How to I make my system keep me logged in?

    Hi
Have a look at System Preferences > Security > General. You may have the "Log out after xx minutes of inactivity" option enabled?

  • ITunes prevents log off

A window comes up saying "Saving iTunes library" and does not go away. It prevents me from opening iTunes and logging off. I have left it to think over night and it still tries to log off. I have to hard-restart the computer every time this happens. It occurs two-three times/week. Also, when I try to use the task manager to close iTunes, it then prevents me from logging off my computer. My tech department has wiped my computer & reinstalled iTunes and this still occurs. Help?!

Security software? That's a pretty vague question to me. I have Symantec Anti-virus if that's anything like what you're asking about.
If you're not clear on what security software is installed on the PC, check with your tech people to see what you're running. If it includes a firewall, try deleting the existing firewall rules for iTunes and then replacing them with a new rule (or rules) allowing full access to the internet. (Firewall rule interference with iTunes.exe is a known cause of the process refusing to die.)

  • Itunes will not open after upgrade

After upgrading to the latest version of itunes and quicktime it will not open (no error message given). If i log off as administrator and log on as another user it will open. is there a fix for this?

there's a few different things that can cause that on a PC.
perhaps try working through the user-account-specific section of the following document first:

  • Itunes will not start after updating to most recent version...

I updated itunes this evening to load up ios4 on my iphone. After updating, I rebooted and my screen resolution went from 1280 x 1024 to 800 x 600. Then I got a message saying I needed to restart bonjour, so I restarted it. Then an itunes error message came up saying itunes needed a certain screen resolution setting to function correctly (I had already reset it so I thought no more on it).
I can't start itunes now, every time I try I get that stupid "report to microsoft" message. I re-installed it and it keeps coming up. My head is melted, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks!

That sounds as if either iTunes or BonJour has been set to run in an old-fashioned display mode. (Lord knows what caused it to happen, though.)
Let's try checking on iTunes first.
Try following the instructions in the following document, with the one change being that when you get to *step 8,* make sure that *no options whatsoever* are checked in the compatibility mode tab.
Will iTunes launch without the error now?
If you're still getting the error, could you let us know which particular Windows OS you're running? (It sounds like you've got XP, but I thought I'd better doublecheck.)

  • Itunes will not start after getting safari 4.0 update

Hi everyone, I'm the sort who doesn't skip a software update whenever i'm prompted with one. Much to my appall, after having updated my safari to 4.0 (as prompted by iTunes 9.0.2 to access iTunes store), my iTunes will not start, and my MSN messenger crashes a little less than a few minutes after launching it. • ITunes will not open after updating

Ever since the update to 7.1.1 iTunes will not open.
I get a pop-up window that says iTunes has stopped working.
I have followed Apple's instructions for Vista about uninstalling all Apple products. I have done this 8+ times and I am at a total loss. I am a webmaster and Sr. Sys. Admin for a software company, so it's not like I don't have experience with computer/software issues.
When I look at the Windows application log. I have this error:
Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 7.7.1.11, time stamp
    0x4890a5ee, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6001.18000, time
stamp 0x4791a76d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000254d8,
process id 0xf44, application start time 0x01c8fb2e587a39a9.
This started happening after I updated.
No other issues with any other programs. Quicktime will start up and run.

I hear you. My itunes is fubared and Apple and ALL the articles they send do NO good. I have emailed Apple many times and nothing helps.
Whatever they changed with version 7.1 messed up itunes and you can't go back.
I have emailed Apple asking them if I can delete my itunes directory and any references to itunes and NOT lose my 10K songs. They havent responded to that email and my guess is that it will delete it. But Im not going to risk losing my library until I know for sure !
Im in the same boat you are, I dont want to lose my library either. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND NOW !!
anyway this is a pain in the *** but itunes(windows) will open this way
    UNTIL APPLE FIXES THIS !
    1.boot up windows
2.right click on your START button
3.go to C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes (my machine is a Dell with Vista)
4.go to the itunes directory C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC INFO
5.delete BOTH files SC info.sidb AND SC info.sibb
6.launch itunes, it should open, mine did.
    7. if you have any purchased songs from the istore, log-in with your user name/password.
THIS WORKED FOR ME BUT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR ITUNES OPEN, IF YOU CLOSE IT OUT, YOU WILL HAVE TO REPEAT THE PROCESS AGAIN. (at least I did)
    GOOD LUCK !!
