J2se patch 118666-11
I installed this patch and now I get errors.
java.lang.NullPointerException
I install Solaris 10 11/06
This patch does this every time. If I remove it, all works fine.
Can someone help me on this please.
I assume this patch came from Solaris (JRE from Sun only comes in full bundles).
You should check Solaris support forum for any known issue, or if you mised
any installation steps.

The application which i am trying to install in Solaris 10 has the bellow dependency.
"On the server where you will install the SAS Web Client component, you must install
the J2SE Cluster Patches for Solaris. To download these patches, search for J2SE
Cluster Patches for your version of Solaris at http://www.sun.com/."
I am not able to locate above patch in sun.com
Please anyone point to me the right URL ?
Thanks. This page includes the J2SE patches
http://sunsolve.sun.com/show.do?target=patch-access
You need to scroll down a bit in the recommended patches menu. -
J2sdk1_3_1_07 not running on up-to-date patched Solaris 8
I have installed all public Solaris 8 patches as well as all public J2SE patches for 1.4.1_02 (should make stable for 1.3.1_07) and the bin/java program won't launch on my machine. The 1.4.1_02 bin/java will launch.
- Gif I execute ./bin/java -version it just hangs. If I truss the process, I can see it is just in a state of polling. Then I ctrl+z and bg, then %% to foreground it and it finishes executing by printing out the version information and exiting gracefully.

Where are patches corresponding to JDK 1.5.0_14?
Forum Moderator and UC fans:
In general there have been patches corresponding to new releases of the Java JDK for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of both SPARC and x86 architectures.
Specifically, patch 118666-* has been the 32-bit SPARC JDK release, 118667-* has been the 64-bit SPARC JDK release, 118668-* has been the 32-bit x86 JDK release, and 118669-* has been the 64-bit x86 JDK release.
However, JDK 1.5.0_14 was releasedl in early October 2007 and there are still no patches corresponding to this release even though it fixed many more bugs than the JDK 1.5.0_13 release that preceeded it and was promptly released as a patch. In fact all JDK 1.5.0_* releases prior to 14 HAVE been available as a patch. Why not this one?
Second note: In general, JDK 1.5.0_N has been available as patch 118666-N, 118667-N, 118668-N, and 118669-N. However, it took two tries to release JDK 1.5.0_13 as patches .... in other words, 118666-13 and 118666-14 were both released in order to properly release JDK 1.5.0_13.
Has the fact that 118666-14 (which is actually JDK 1.5.0_13) has been released somehow fooled Sun into thinking that JDK 1.5.0_14 is already available as a patch?
When can we expect JDK 1.5.0_14 (that is, 118666-15 and related patches ...) be released as a patch? UpdateManager is not very useful if important fixes either don't appear as patches or if they do not get recommended as being applicable.
Thanks,
JohnForum Moderator:
Thank you for looking into this.
I understand that UpdateManager can only recommend patches that it knows about. And I understand that Java is a little "funny" in that you can often download and install a full update before a patch is available. However, getting 118666-15 and friends as a patch for JDK 1.5.0_14 has taken an extraordinarily long time. I know that is not your job or responsibility .... but it certainly seems as if these patches have been forgotten. Afterall, Tiger isn't undergoing any active development, correct? It's purely in bug-fix mode .... which, one would think, would be distributed as patches.
I can tell you that for a number of earlier patches in the JDK 1.5.0_* series that I found out about them via UpdateManager BEFORE I actually realized that they were available or had been released on the java.sun.com site.
For example, the release date of JDK 1.5.0_13 (based on it's 'pkginfo -l' information or by the dates of installed files) was released on September 25, 2007. Patches 118666-14, 118-667-14, 118668-14, and 118669-14 (which was the SECOND patch release of JDK 1.5.0_13) were updated on October 2, 2007 .... roughly a week later.
JDK 1.5.0_14 was released 3 days after that on October 5, 2007 .... and yet STILL has not appeared as a set of patches. I believe that this lengthy delay between when the full package was avaialbe and when a patch was available is unique to 118666-15 through 118669-15 and does not match the timing pattern for the -1 through -14 patches of JDK 1.5.0.
Can I manually uninstall the JDK 1.5.0_13 packages and then download and manually install the JDK 1.5.0_14? Yes .... but it's more of a hassle just as uninstalling and reinstalling ANY package is more of a hassle than simply patching it.
So, I appreciate your diligence and efforts in supporting the UpdateManger community and did not mean to sound as if I was blaming updatemanager for patches being unavailable. However, I don't know where else to ask "Why isn't X yet avialable as a patch?" ... and, it seems to me, that 118666-15 through 118669-15 have clearly gotten lost in the pipeline compared to all of the previous releases of patches to JDK 1.5.0.
Thanks,

I think this install is on a Niagara T2000, right?
There is an issue with installing PS7.0 on webserver on a Niagara box.
Installation of PS7 on T2000s running JVM 1.5.0_04 fails unless JVM
patches 118666-05 and 118667-05 are applied. After the patches are installed, the JVM is upgraded to 1.5.0_05
This issue has been fixed for JES5(ps7.1).
For ps7.0 use the following steps will get it working:
1) Install DS so that JDK gets installed. Start DS.
2) Add patches 118666-05 and 118667-05 to upgrade jdk.
3) Make sure jdk is upgraded to 1.5.0_06-b05 and /usr/jdk/entsys-j2se
link is updated.
4) Invoke installer again and install WS.
5) Edit server.xml to put below JVM options.
<JVMOPTIONS>-Xms2048m</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-Xmx2048m</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-Xss512k</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-XX:NewSize=384m</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-XX:MaxNewSize=384m</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-XX:PermSize=256m</JVMOPTIONS>
<JVMOPTIONS>-XX:MaxPermSize=256m</JVMOPTIONS>
6) Start WS instance and admin server
7) Invoke installer to install AM, PS
8) Restart everything and check access

Why doesn't smpatch analyze match patchdiag output?
Can someone explain this and if it will change in the future. If so, when ca we expect it?
First, I understand that the patchdiag.xref file is commonly more current than patchdb.zip (by a day) but that's not what I am talking about.
I see across most hosts and OS versions patches that aren't flagged for update by smpatch analyze but are by patchdiag. Many are obviously important files (not obscure), a good example I have seen on other boxes are the SUNWsan patches, sd patches, etc.
Below is an example from a Solaris 10 box.
# smpatch analyze

JRE 6.0 update 1 for Solaris 10 sparc 64 bit
Will jre 6.0 come out as a patch for Solaris 10 sparc? Or should I install it from the Java download site (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)? I currently have jre 5.0.11 (patches 118666-11 and 118667-11).
Thanks.....Will jre 6.0 come out as a patch for Solaris 10
sparc? Or should I install it from the Java download
site (http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp)? I
currently have jre 5.0.11 (patches 118666-11 and
118667-11).Yes, it's out for 6u1, or should be out by now, as sparc (125136-01 & 125137-01)
and x86 (125138-01 & 125139-01).
You cannot patch your way from 5.0 to 6. You need to install the 6 packages, and then you can install the 6u1 patch. (or you could just install the 6u1 packages, and patch from that point onward).
As to the later question, yes, there isn't a formal JRE patch, but SUNWj6rt is essentially the runtime component of the JDK, so if you just had SUNWj6rt & SUNWj6cfg installed, you would have the equivalent of a JRE, though it still would be installed in a JDK directory. If you have just those two packages installed, then you could use 125136-01 as a JRE patch, since it will only update what installed. Oh yes, I forgot about the 64bit component to the runtime, SUNWj6rtx. If you intend on running the JRE in 64bit mode (-d64), you'd need SUNWj6rtx as well.

Weblogic crashes with a coredump on solaris
Hi All,
Recently our weblogic server on solaris started to give core dumps.
It doesnt say why it crashed and the only available information are the
coredump file and the log file which is created for that crash. One other
noticable thing was somewhere in the output it said,
An irrecoverable stack overflow has occurred.
Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0xb77e8
Function name=(N/A)
Library=(N/A)
NOTE: We are unable to locate the function name symbol for the error
just occurred. Please refer to release documentation for possible
reason and solutions.

Thank You
SamanSo your SP2 machines are more stabel than SP3 and SP4?
Thanks,

I'm seeing something similiar. I recently upgraded our admin server to SP4 and
JDK 1.3.1_06. Some of the managed servers in the domain are still at SP2 with
JDK 1.3.1_02. The admin server is crashing with no dumps and no error messages
to the log.

Does anyone know of any problems with the above combinations?

Error message: X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication
Until recently I was able to ssh from the Mac in my office -- runing
MacOS 10.6.4, to a Sun Solaris server -- running Solaris 10 10/09

and now when I try to run certain programs, namely Symantec NetBackup
Server (NBS) administrator interface, jnbSA, when I run the program I see:

and jnbSA fails. I removed these patches:
118666-27 JavaSE 5.0: update 25 patch (equivalent to JDK 5.0u25)
118667-27 JavaSE 5.0: update 25 patch (equivalent to JDK 5.0u25), 64bit
124457-03 X11 6.6.2: xdm patch
with no change. I have made NO updates to NBS, and what's
even more weird, regular X11 programs such as x{eyes,biff,emacs}
work fine.
I've tried tinkering with the contents of ~/sshconfig and /etc/ssh_config
to no avail.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!I'm confused why you posted on the Tarantella/SGD Forum then?
Yes, you can use SGD to have your Mac client display back a Solaris/Linux/Windows/Mainframe, etc application remotely.

Issue with binary attribute types through Directory Proxy Server 6.3.1
I'm having problems with DPS 6.3.1.1 on Solaris 10 with binary attribute types. From most LDAP servers, requesting an attribute such as userCertificate would return userCertificate;binary without any issues. However, DPS seems to consider these two separate attributes. In order to see userCertificate;binary, I have to ask for it in that exact format. This obviously is causing trouble for many clients as they shouldn't care about the binary type as it's the same attribute.
I've tried to correct this with a virtual data transformation (dpconf add-virtual-transformation 'PKI Tree' read add-attr-value userCertificate \${userCertificate\;binary}) but the end results are the same. Any ideas on how I can correct this one?
Thanks in advance. Here is some complementary information:

Hi,
we have a problem with cc-transport on many systems perpetually dumping core.
I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem?
Is there a fix for this? We have update connection patched to quite recent. Java version is 1.5.13 or whatever the last update was.
This gives us a lot of grief as we have to clean up after cc-transport quite regularly.
rachelTry downloading and installing patch 121081-08
possibly download the latest java patch 118666-15 from sun solve -

I didn't post the entire stack (eliminated the calls on our code, the lines are irrelevant).
I still consider the corruption of memory as a possible reason, but it looks more and more that the issue is located inside the OS libraries. The both cores are located inside the dbm calls... Any insights on these cores?
Below the machine description
Thx in advance, Radu

Patch: 119130-20 Obsoletes: 119086-05, 120342-04 Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWjfca, SUNWjfcau, SUNWfOK, I see that dbm_open is NOT mt safe. But please look at the stack, it shows:
[1] dbm_open[...]
[2] dbm_open[...]
[3] operator new[...]
which means the implementation of operator new is calling dbm_*. I didn't implement operators new/delete, they are Solaris implemented.
I agree there are several explanations, including:
1. the stack is wrong - unlikely because the others frames are matching perfectly with my code
2. because of other problems in my code the stack or other parts of memory are corrupted
In this moment I would like to know if Solaris implementation of allocation of memory is USING dbm_* and if so, how it is supposed to work. If not, anybody has any idea why dbx shows me this kind of stack (operator new/delete calling dbm_* methods)...
As I said, the cores I have show this kind of stack over and over again. That's why I am supposing there are chances the problem being somehow related to OS... Obviously I am further collecting them and hope to see something.
Using dbm in an MT program is a source of several of
these errors, which is why I recommend resolving that
issue first.I am not using dbm_* calls anywhere in my code (not directly at least)...
Thx

J2SE 1.4 patches/updates
Hi!
I've have encountered several bugs in J2SE 1.4 since its release. I've noticed too that some of these bugs have been fixed by Sun.
Does anyone know if there is some place to download patches or a new, bug-fixed release of J2SE?
Thanks in anticipation!I really wish Sun would make patches and updates available at a finer-grained level. I wouldn't mind an alpha or non-stable build of the JDK, and would accept a disclaimer to the effect that I know this a development build and won't complain to Sun about problems with it.
But this doesn't seem to be the way Sun likes to work. For example, the bug regarding double-precision floating point performance: math with doubles is 1.5x - 4x slower in 1.4 than it was in 1.3. And Swing/Java2D uses doubles heavily.
I want the choice. Are you listening, Sun?
Cheers,

J2SE Daylight Time Update -mIssing patch/packages
I have been testing the patch install for J2SE on Solaris 9 and it isn't working. Before installing, I checked the version:
forest:hughesm> java -version
java version "1.4.0_00"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.0_00-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.0_00-b05, mixed mode)
Which I assume needs to be updated according to the web page:
http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/Intl/USDST/index.html
I downloaded J2SE_Solaris_9_Recommended and did:
sudo ./install_clusterand got

Anyway, I am unable to find out from sunsolve or elsewhere what patch packages are not installed that 113886-40 is missing. Does anyone have any ideas how to find out what it's missing?
Note: after partial installation, java version did not change.
Also, does anyone know how to TEST this change to see if it really will work?
Thanks.I think I may have figured it out. I installed the following packages:
SUNWj3cfg
SUNWj3dev
SUNWj3dmo
SUNWj3jmp
SUNWj3man
SUNWj3rt
This updated the Java Version to the latest version. The recommended patches update did not seem to help, but installing the latest packages above did. -
Flash Player for Solaris - And J2SE 6.0 for Solaris
Hello,
The current version of flash player for Solaris is 7.0.67.0. For Windows it is 9.0.45.0. What gives? Is Adobe just giving up on Solaris? Now, in Firefox and Mozilla for Solaris, imbedded videos on web pages such as www.nytimes.com will not display, apparently due to the ancient version of Flash for Solaris.
Also, does anyone know when and the new java runtime j2se 6.0 will be released as a patch for Solaris 10? The patches are 118666 and 118667.
Thank you.....From Adobe Lans web site above:
Adobe Labs is currently featuring prerelease versions of the Flash Player 9 Update software. This update includes enhancements and bug fixes for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux versions of Flash Player 9. Please see the release notes for more information regarding this prerelease technology. The prerelease program for Flash Player 9 for Solaris is closed at this time, and Solaris versions of Flash Player 9 will be available shortly from Adobe.com.
