K9N4 SLI - Lack of 125W CPU Support

Hello,
Just wondering why does this board not support any 125W CPU's?
I was looking at getting one of these boards to throw in a 6000 X2 but according to the website, this board only supports the 89W version, which is unavailable where I am.
I've seen this CPU supported on a Gigabyte board using the nforce 4 SLI Chipset, which the nforce 500 SLI is based off or rebadged from.
Thank you.

I'm sorry, i really don't care if the board goes up in smoke.  As a matter of fact, this board is one of the worst decisions i have made.  Don't get me wrong, I will always stick with MSI, but this particular model of a board seems to have constant issues with a lot of other people.  particularly with it not posting right out of the box.  i myself had this issue 2 or 3 times with the same model board and according to my findings here, and in many other forums, so do a lot of other people.  so really, who cares if the damn thing goes up in smoke?  it was only $80.00 and in the meantime I have a good setup going on.  you won't hear me complaining about it frying, i'll just buy a different model.

  • K9N4 SLI with AMD Athlon 6400+ X2 - Damage to CPU???

Hello everybody...I have a very quick question.  I purchase an AMD Ahtlon 6400+ X2 processor and the MSI K9N4 SLI motherboard not knowing that they are incompatible.  I didn't find this out until I had  installed the CPU, RAM and PCI-E video card, powered up and didn't get a boot or POST.  It's alittle frustrating and I've made arrangements to swap the motherboard for one that is compatible.  However my concern here is any damage that may have occurred to the processor in doing this.  Does anyone know whether this would have caused any permanent damage to the CPU or any other component?  Any response would be very much appreciated.  Thank you very much.

Just to let you know, i too made the same mistake back in February 2008.  i got the same board and the same processor and it also would not boot.  However, luckily I did have my old processor to got back to and i installed it and then I flashed the BIOS to 1.4 and then reinstalled the 6400 CPU.  I have been running my PC for nearly a year now and have had no problems.  So I doubt it caused any damage.

  • K9N4 SLI: Support of 3 GB in dual channel

    Hello,
    This is a great forum
I've a MSI K9N4 SLI (MSI 7325), AMD Athlon 64 x2 3600+ oced to 4000+ and two stick of one gb of ram.
Each module is inserted in different channels.
I want to add a new module of 1 gb ram, so my system will have 3 GB in total. So my question is: If I add a new module, will the memory work in single or dual channel? If yes or not, will at least work in single channel?
My system score 4,9 as processor and 5,9 memory. I'm using Vista x64 and all works good but I need a little more speed.
    Thanks!

If even can works will be in single.
Use 1,2 or 4 memory modules.
For best performance and troubles free use 2x matched memory sticks only.

  • K9N2 SLI Plat CPU support

I have been trying to access the cpu support list and it keeps timing out.  Curious if anyone else is having problems.  Is this info available any where else?  Thanks.

OK someone got it to work, but had to adjust the VCORE before using it, I consider something official when I don't have to do that, there are a lot of users out there that don't overclock, I'm one of them, I know how and I've overclocked this 7750 to 3.4GHz stable with stock cooling, but I'm happy with 2.7GHz stock for now. I'll be upgrading to the the 980a - G65 soon anyway, not going to blow money on a 955 now, will wait til both the board and CPU come down in price.

  • K9n4 sli wont boot into bios

this is a new build my specs are
    motherboard           k9n4 sli
    cpu                     amd anthlon 64 x2 4600
    ram                     ocz 6400 dual channel 2x 2gig
power supply         ocz game extreme 700
    video card              evga 8800gts
hard drive               wd 500 gig sata
    heat sink                ocz vendetta
so like the title says I can not get into the bios, I get a very loud single beep, now the best way I can describe the beep is as an angry beep.  Sounds stupid I know.  Now when I look up the beep it seems that it could be a memory or cpu, the cpu beep is described as high/low siren, I don't really get that, but it is higher pitched then a normal beep.  I have tried moveing the ram around and only putting one stick in.  I have tried to clear the bios.  It seems that something is not working right or incompatable.  my money is on the ram, cpu,or motherboard.  The sad thing is I cant really switch out any of those things.   I have the feeling that it might be the cpu,but would like some feedback before I  rma anything.
any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

not sure by which one do you mean
    amd athlon 64 x2 4600 socket am2
probably the first thing to get upgraded but should be compatable or am i missing something
There are several models "amd athlon 64 x2 4600 socket am2".

Also i've asked to double check that you have 4600+ {and not 6400+, because 6400+ is not supported}.
    Have you plugged CPU FAN in CPU-FAN connector to the mainboard? {Not in SYSFAN}

  • K9N4 SLI Vista Drivers

I was recently... Uh.. Well I guesse the word would be "Forced" to upgrade my Pc to Vista after my old operating System (Windows XP ME 2002 edition) was no longer supported by Microsoft and the zune software.  Basically It bricked my original Zune.  Now I have Vista and it isn't too horrible.  Except the only problem I have is I cant get my USB ports to register anything.  My Keyboard and Mouse work, they both have their own drivers.  But I cannot get my PC to register my USB Keys, Webcams, or the zune itself.  Maybe I missed something on the main site but I can't find the correct drivers for the main board it seems.
I appologize If I am missing something on the forums or the webpages already posted.  Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit: Sorry I missed some data ^.^ The board I have is the K9N4-SLI Model MS-7325. Chipset nForce4, Southbridge nForce4.

You don't need drivers for usb ports.
But you do need drivers for devices.
Those are typical drivers from the manufacturers of the USB devices, like your webcam.
Has nothing to do with your board.

  • K9N4 SLI and Phenom

    Hello,
I searched the forum to see if my K9N4 SLI (nForce 500 SLI) will support Phenom? Officially MSI says not.
If not, will the future AM2+ processors compatible? For example Athlon with Rana core or Phenom 9900?
    K9N4 SLI had 4 or 8M?
    Thanks!

I'm real close to buying the MSI K9n4-SLI-F MB. I dl'ed the manual and it seams to say that the PCIE 16x slots are only supported at 8X speed. I understand if that is true while in SLI, but is the 1st slot running at 16x with one vid card?

  • K9N6SGM-V best CPU support

    Dear all,
apparently there is a post here that may help me as well since I have similar problem concerning CPU compatability
My existing CPU dies and I'm looking for replacement keeping the same board ( see subject )
According to MSI web site and all the post I read , I was looking for Sempron but apparently new generation are AM3 socket and this board doesn't support such socket .
Based on the posts looks like the board may allow me to install Opteron 1210
Before to proceed with this I would like to be sure in order to don't waste my money
In other words , is the Opteron 1210 the only one compatible ?
Opteron is not listed in the CPU supported with this board according to the web
You mention that this require BIOS 1.9 update, do you mean 1.9 and higher or just limited to 1.9 ?
what is the best CPU performer for this board ( according to your experience and feedback ) ?
    Thanks in advance

according to my search on the link you kindly suggested and MSI web vs AMD web , I identified few alternative :
    AMD QuadCore Opteron1352( PN OS1352WBJ4BGHBOX ),Wattage75, speed 2100, Bus speed 2000,L2 Cache 2048 , Socket AM2
    AMD Athlon X2 5600+ ( PN ADO-56DOBX ) , Wattage 65, speed 2900, Bus Speed 2000 , L2 Cache 2048 , Socket AM2
    AMD QuadCore Opteron1354( PN OS1354WBJ4BGHBOX ),Wattage75, speed 2200, Bus speed 2000,L2 Cache 2048 , Socket AM2
All of them are AM2 and below 125W , however the only one officially supported by MSI is the Athlon , while the Opteron are not .
    What you would suggest ?
QuadCore should be faster compared to Athlon , however not fully sure will be compatible with my board
    Thanks again

  • Still confused over K9A2-CF v1 cpu support

    Hello,
my first post so please be nice to me!
I have a K9A2-CF v1 motherboard with a Phenom Agena 9500 sitting in it. I flashed the AMI BIOS from 1.2 to 1.5 at the behest of the MSI support team some months ago to resolve a memory stability issue, which seemed to do the trick.
My initial understanding was that this revision of this motherboard would only support a CPU that took up to 95 Watts, and this understanding is still probably correct.
However when i revisited the CPU support page today I noticed that the description no longer seems to differentiate between v1 of the motherboard, and v2 (which apparently does support 125W chips).
The page has presumably changed, since I noticed it was used by a fellow member in a topic along these lines to support the argument that v1 and v2 are differentiated in this way:-
    Quote
According to the CPU support page:  http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?v=1&func=prodcpusupport&prod_no=1333&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=#menu
    The answer is no.
    Psy
Taking this page at face value as it stands now, it would appear that my motherboard can indeed support 125W chips. (I am inclined to disbelieve this, but here's hoping)!
Could somebody with relevant expertise please (yet again) please confirm that the page is no longer accurately reflecting the difference between v1 and v2, or if there is some vital detail that I have overlooked when interpreting the CPU support table.
Separately but not totally unrelated, I also notice that on this page a CPU is listed "Phenom X4 Agena HD9850WCJ4BGH 9850" which is rated at 95W. Is this likely to work with my V1 motherboard? Since there is no longer any differentiation between what works with v1 and v2 I am unsure!
    Thanks and Regards

everything would work but the 125w cpu`s could/will damage the mainboard
     Silvah is correct.
Yes the MSI website no longer differentiates between the two and for the most part applies to both but the no 125W CPU still applies to the V1 as nothing has changed for it. The smoking, fried CPU VRM MOSFETs are still the problem and that will not change. Be aware that extremely OCd 95W CPUs with increased voltage could also cause the same damage to the V1 MB.
    Hello board.
I just waiting my MSI K9A2-CF, but really I don´t know what rev. v. it will be. I imagine it should be the most recent version since I bought the mobo from a big online dealer on Mercado Libre.com (spanish eBay) whom have lot of sales daily. Anyway, just at this moment does the fried CPU VRM MOSFETs  issue hold on others revisions of K9A2-CF than v1 ? or it is a past thing instead?

  • K9A2-CF CPU Support update

    Hi!
Have read a lot of post stating that the K9A2-CF has to be V2 to cope with a high wattage CPU.
Not being sure what to think of this since MSI now have only one list for CPU support stating that all CPU's are supported now, I contacted MSI support and got the information that my K9A2-CF can handle them.
Searched some more and only found the V2 in US. In Europe and Global sites there is no such MB just the "simple" K9A2-CF.
Just wanted to do an update on it since I've seen no other mentioning about it. (I might have missed it if there is, searched through the forum though without finding any)

That 'CPU Support List' is for the K9A2 CF V2 only, eliminate any 125W on the list for the V1 MB. If your MB does not have K9A2 CF V2 like in this pic do not use 125W or highly OCd 95W CPU. Read the thread that Russ-xp has the link to. It was a bad idea for MSI to sweep the V1 under the carpet and hide it like it never existed. Doing that for sure is going to end up with more dead V1 MBs for people that don't have the sense to ask about it like you have. I guess they'll just replace the V1 with the V2 under warranty when needed and leave it at that but that's just my way of thinking. The earliest V2s had a sticker like this in the pic.
So, what the support team have told me is wrong? That's the only conclusion I can come to since I do NOT have the above mentioned sticker on my board.
Have once again contacted the support team, waiting for response now.
Thx for the replies, actually missed that post by aardvark0

  • K9A2 CF CPU Support

I have the K9A2 CF motherboard. In the past this motherboard had limited support for Phenom processors but when I check on MSI's global page, it says that the Phenom 9950 processor is supported! There use to be two CPU support charts K9A2 CF and K9A2 CF v2. Is this a mistake or can the K9A2 CF now support high end Phenom processors?

If you have a K9A CF V1 any CPU over 95W should not be used. If you have the K9A2 CF V2 then you can use the 125W CPU. It seems like someone at MSI decided to make it look like the V1 MB never existed. The hardware (CPU VRM MOSFETs) on the V1 MB did not magically change with the CPU support page.
The facts remain the same, NO 125W CPU on the K9A2 CF V1. They are okay on the K9A2 CF V2.
Edit: The link Fredrik has is just one of many threads relating to that subject regarding 125W CPUs and fried MOSFETs.
To tell the truth none of the 89W & 95W CPUs should be OCed much, if at all because the MOSFETs have also been known to fry due to OC on the K9A2 CF V1 boards.
