KT6DELTA-LSR + ATHLON XP2600+ FSB333 crash/restart problem solved!
Hello!
I've recently purchased the KT6DELTA-LSR motherboard and an XP 2600+ FSB333.
But my happyness was short because I encountered a lot of crashings and reboots.
I have seen in this forum that I wasn't the only whit this kind of problems... .
I noticed that when I change the FSB from 166 to 133 the system runs stable with no problem at all but my CPU is recognized as 2000+ .
I've discovered the cause so for those who still have problems try this:
CHANGE the VCore from Default ( 1.65V ) to 1.7V (not to 1.675 because is not enough). AND put the FSB to 168 MHz. I think is OK with FSB 166 but who knows...
With this setting my sistem runs fine but the temperature rised with about 3 degrees...
If you leave the VCore default PCAlert IV shows that VCore is between 1.61-1.63V
if you set the VCore to 1.675 then the value shown is 1.63-1.65
when setting to 1.7V finally the VCore is 1.65-1.7
I think that because the CPU has not enough Voltage it fails and the sistem crashes or reboots.
Excuse my english... it's not my native language.....
Good luck!
My power supply :
Name: Powerlink 400W
+3.3V --- 25A
+5V --- 32A
-5V --- 0.3A
+12V --- 18A
-12V --- 0.8A
Total Power On 3,3V&5V=160W
Do you think that there is another cause for my crashes/reboots?
I tried another memory module PC3200 but the problems remain.
The only solution I found is VCore=1.7V

Why does my MacBook spontaneously crash/restart?
My MacBook is suddenly restarting for no apparent reason. What follows is a detailed description of the issue and surrounding circumstances, various elements of which may or may not be relevant.
Several months ago I noticed my trackpad button had stopped clicking reliably. About two months ago I realized that the replacement laptop battery I was using (purchased on Amazon as genuine Apple product, but probably not really made by Apple) had begun to swell just enough to press up from the underside of the trackpad and prevent it from functioning properly. I removed the battery and have been using the machine with AC power so that the trackpad will work right. I intend to replace the battery with a new one directly from Apple, but given the cost I would like to make sure I can resolve my other issues first. I have included the above because it was roughly around the time I began using my MacBook without a battery that the symptoms below began. Using the computer without a battery may or may not be related these issues, but it is the only thing I can think of that changed anywhere near when the problems began.
Around this time, the backlight on the built-in display began to regularly (1-5 times per hour of use) shut itself off. The LCD stays on and can still be seen faintly in ambient light, but the backlight turns itself off as if I had turned the brightness all the way down using the F1 key. The brightness control itself seems to stay up, however, as the temporary fix I was able to find by researching the issue online is to turn the brightness all the way down (using the F1 key) and then back up again (using F2) and display brightness rises with my pressing the F2 display-brighter button. This would last anywhere from 1-1000 minutes (approximate) of use before shutting off (backlight) again and I would have to do the same thing. The length of time until the next shutoff seems to be shorter the brighter I have the display brightness set, but the symptom comes and goes in fits and spurts. Sometimes I can't keep it on more than 15 seconds and I just give up and drag whatever windows I'm working on to my external monitor (which functions fine throughout - I use the external and built-in displays side-by-side with a mini-DVI to DVI adapter), but other times it will go for a week just fine. This may or may not be related to my more serious issue below, but it began just in advance of the below and has continued to the present.
About the same time I stopped using the battery and started experiencing display backlight shutoffs, my computer began spontaneously crashing and restarting itself. The first time it happened I was attempting to play a video (MP4 I think) from the hard drive in QuickTime Player. The video played for a few minutes, and then my computer crashed and began to restart itself. I let it restart and tried playing the video several more times, even using VLC instead of QuickTime as the player, but each time the computer would play a few seconds to a few minutes before dying and restarting. In the hours and days that followed, the machine would randomly restart every 1-100 (approximately) minutes of use. The shutdowns seemed more likely to occur when attempting to play video of any format, local or online, and for a while I couldn't even play a YouTube vid without the computer shutting down. Sometimes the machine would restart to my login screen, but then if I logged in right away it would begin the login process but then die and restart again. If I waited a while before logging in it seemed to "calm down" and would login successfully. The restarts were more likely during video playback, but not exclusive to this task.
I noticed that the restarts seemed to especially come in "clumps," and that allowing the machine a rest seemed to help. I also noticed that the fan frequently (but not always) sounded like it was running at full power at the time of restart. I concluded that the restarts were likely the result of overheating. I disassembled the machine in order to clean out the fan and heat sink. I didn't find much lint / blockage, but I thoroughly cleaned out what was there and did a cursory look around the internals for anything that might appear to be out of order, but I didn't find anything remarkable. The restarts continued, together with high fan speeds just before, so I downloaded iStat Pro to monitor internal temperatures in my status bar. I watched temps pretty closely, especially when I heard the fan, but the highest I ever saw was 80 degrees celsius on the CPU die. I don't know a lot about CPU temperature ranges, but from some cursory research it looks like that is way below the cutoff for an automatic shutdown (and besides, it seems like it should shutdown rather than restart for overheating). I watched to see if the restarts happened at the same temperature every time, but they varied widely, sometimes even occurring below 65 C, with or without high fan noise.
The issue persisted and was becoming a real problem for me, and I already had a HDD I was planning to upgrade to, so I decided to do the HDD swap and follow with a clean install of OSX (via download from Apple) rather than migrate from my old drive because I figured that would take care of any software issues. After I swapped out the HDD and did a clean install it was three days or so until the display backlight cut out as before, and about a week before the first sudden restart, which brings us to the present. Since that first restart, I've seen another 6 or so in the last 4 hours. I have also noticed an occasional failure to get past the grey screen on an intentional shutdown (not the sudden restarts) since replacing the HDD and reinstalling OSX, but that only happens on occasion. The only things I have installed since replacing the HDD other than the OS are MS Office for Mac 2011 (from CD) and then Flash and Silverlight plug-ins for Safari. I've also transferred over some files from my old HDD using a USB caddy and have opened some documents, but I haven't run any applications or installers besides the aforementioned. I haven't been able to transfer everything from the old HDD though, because the old drive (in a USB caddy) drive seems to spontaneously unmount, giving me the "the disk was not ejected properly" message and causing Finder to freeze up with a spinwheel of death and not recover after relaunching finder in the Force Quit dialog. This seems to lead to the manual shutdown stalling on the grey screen as well (when means I have to use the button to force full shutdown). This could just be a problem with my caddy though.
Here is what I have tried, in total:
- Restarted the machine
- Disassembled laptop and cleaned out the fan / heat sink
- Watched temperatures (no apparent correlation)
- Replaced HDD and reinstalled OSX from scratch (by download from Apple)
- Ran Apple Hardware Test (no problems found)
- Software Update ("your software is up to date")
- Checked for System Diagnostic Reports in Console following spontaneous restarts, found none present
- Reset NVRAM / PRAM
- Reset SMC
Those last two resets I did just prior to posting and so far I haven't seen the crash/restart, although I have seen the dead backlight. It hasn't been long though so we'll see. . .

One final note - when the system spontaneously restarts, it doesn't properly shutdown as it would if I initiated a restart, it just suddenly dies, black screen, and then I hear the startup tone and it begins to restart.
Obviously this is an older machine and I've gotten a lot of good use out of it, but I still need it and don't have the budget right now to replace it so any help you can offer would be much appreciated. I'm pretty much stymied.
Please let me know if anything is missing / unclear!

Hi
If I do a cold start my system will boot up ok,but if I have to do a "restart" after installing something it boots up and the gets to the part where it says "Searching for IDE devices" and it will hang.If I power off and then on again it will boot up normaly.Apart from that it runs well...any ideas ?(

CPU Temp runs on average between 50c - 60c
Case Temp runs on average about 89f - 100f
When I set this thing up I had a 300 Watt supply and it did not fully run things and did have some problems with the HD lights staying on, my guess was due to not enough power. So beefing it up to 360 Watts fixed that.
Also had restart problems quite often, at least 3 or 4 times a day it would just reboot on its own, I run and operate a computer store , so I had the ability to try different things to fix this. Turns out the memory on the nForce chipset boards is VERY important. Brand new sticks from a variety of sources had different affects, including not counting all the memory properly, restarting randomly and not booting at all. Believe it or not, one of the cheapest memory makers on the market seems to have been the best for use in the machine and that would be the Kingston Value Ram. So, if at all possible try getting some of them and see what happens. The worst??? All Components Memory.
You guys should also look at the 4 lights that are or should be in the back of your machine provided by MSI for your troubleshooting aids.. They do work and are quite helpful.
Sorry for the lengthy message post, but thought maybe I could be of some help to somebody. -
10.4.11 update - restart problem
Hi everyone,
Sorry if someone else has posted this, but I couldn't find a similar problem on the forum.
Since updating a few days ago, my mac no longer stays permanently shutdown, but restarts itself around 30min after shutdown.
I have run the combo update, verified disk (no problems), verified and repaired permissions, checked all the energy saver preferences were correct etc., but the problem is still occurring.
Can anyone advise what might be done to remedy this?
Thanks very much.
Mikei just installed the update 10.4.11. i don't have a restart problem but now these applications wont start:
mail
itunes
ichat
safari
apple/software update
i try from the dock, from the apps folder, nothing. they bounce once and thats it.
please help!

And the problem was ... the Login Items associated with StuffIt Deluxe!
removing, in particular:
MagicMenu
ArchiveAssistantScheduler
Stuffit AVR Daemon
Cures the repeating restart problems!
No, I haven't narrowed it down to any one of the three ...
Complete uninstall/reinstall of a 'fresh' Stuffit install doe NOT fix the problem; it's 100% reproducible for me. AND, now, I've tried it on several different boxes. Same issue.
Given Alladdin's ... er ... Allume's ... er ... Smith Micro's history of not acting to fix bugs that've been reported to them, I'll report the issue, but in the meantime I'm just gonna remove it from my system completely.
Thanks again! -
my iphone 5 crashes (restarts) automatically after updating to ios 7.1 anyboday facing same issues ? Need help !!!!
I am having the same issues--just got off phone with customer service rep--was told that my phone is in recoveyr mode and that I would have to restore it, however, the only things that would be restored would be from my last backup which was in November 2013! I was also told that apple users should not update as soon as the update is available (so why are they sending it to us if they're not sure that there will be any problems!!!). I can't restore now since I am in work--will do it when I go home tonight. In the meantime, I am without a working iphone for the day! This is horrible--I see I'm not the only one who has experienced this!

Restart Problem Fix for Mega 865
Just letting people know how I fixed my Mega 865 restart problems
my quick story
I built my 865 with 512RAM and installed XP MCE2005. The next day I installed a 1 GIG RAM chip and the system would not boot into XP. It would get to the windows boot screen and crash when loading the hard drive drivers.... or somewhere around there. couldnt even get into safe mode. I removed the Radeon 9800 and it booted. oh no could it be the AGP Card?
well I put it back in and tried every thing,
removed the new 1 GIG RAM, same problem
reset BIOS
reset to Safe Settings BIOS
reset to Optimal BIOS
repair XP recovery console, fix MBR ...etc
then I the BIOS I tried dropping the AGP Aperature size from 64MB down to 8MB. It fixed the problem.
I'm guessing the issue is really one of power. the PSU is only 230w and with the extra ram stick, it had problems putting out enough power.
so I dropped the agp aperature down to 8MB (shouldnt matter as the card has 128MB and hopefully shouldnt need system RAM)
I also turned off the serial port (set it to disabled - who uses the serial port anyway)
and disabled the modem and network card (dont need the modem and I'm using the wireless card instead of the ethernet one)
hopefully turn these things off will prevent furthur power issues when running games and stuff.the prescott core P4s are hot enough as it is, without squeezing a 3.2ghz in there, along with a hot GPU
i would recommend the northwood core P4, as they run cooler and are just as good as prescott P4s as tests have shown
and i would also advise you to search through this forum for topics about mega 180 heat issues; the issues will apply to all mega series, just seems to cause more of a problem with the 180, but most ideas will apply to 865
first thing to check is airflow, make sure that there are no cable looms in front of heatsink, obstructing airflow to the fan. bear in mind too that by default, the fan is already blowing hot air off the AGP card onto the heatsink (yes, poor design by MSI but it can be resolved apparently by "reversing" fan airflow). -
I just had a tech support tell me that the kt6V-lsr was the better of these 2 boards..
Are they just trying to pull wool over my eyes because thats what they sent me?
2nd
they also sent me the AMD XP2600+ "thorton" chip
instead of the AMD XP 2500+ "Barton" chip
should I be pissed about this also?Hm, for once I disagree a little with stevehp. 2600 has a Thoroughbred B core, while 2500 has of course a Barton core, bigger die etc. 2600 was introduced by AMD to sort of gain a little time before introducing the newer Barton. The part about the cache is correct.
Though a little dated information, I suggest you go see:
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020610/thoroughbred-04.html
Checking around a little, everywhere they prefer Barton.

20 GB iPod Color crashes, restarts while syncing
My newly purchased 20 Gig has always had a problem while sycronizing with my mac. It actually crashes (screen goes blank, white apple logo appears after a few seconds) then mounts properly and is visible within iTunes 5.
After successfully attempting a restore, my library of 1400 songs now attempts to sync, but after 1 to 20 songs, the iPod crashes, restarts, and looses any songs it was able to move across. Eventually I got my library accross by checking of each playlist one at a time and "saving my progress" before the iPod would faint.
The iPod plays music fine, and doesn't seem to die when browsing the files via the Finder. The problem seems to be more acute under iTunes 5, but I can't sustantiate that claim.
Any ideas?Solution? Use firewire. $20 extra is lame (not very much, mind you) but now I don't have to send it in, and the uploads are a tiny bit faster. As I type, I'm 650 of 1300 songs in, without a hickup. Last night, it'd crash after 10. I'll be posting this in a few threads - I apologize if you're reading them all!

KT4AV-L paired with a Amd Athlon XP2600 333mhz 512 L2 Cache Barton Bios setup question
Hi Guys
I have just recently bought a KT4AV-L paired with a Amd Athlon XP2600 333mhz 512 L2 Cache Barton. Having browsed over to the cpu support after not being able to get my machine to register a 2600+ from the bios i looked up the support to see that is doesn't support that processor in the list can someone tell me if it does and how i need to setup my bios to register is a 2600+ or near, as i can only get about 1.5 ghz out of it at the moment. I adjusted the fsb to 140 and the system hangs on powerup and i get nothing but it gives a memory error from the d-panle. Any ideas? should i just be running the fsb at 133 or 166?
Setup includes motherboard + processor listed
512 crucial ddr 333 pc 2700
radeon 9600 256 agp 8
soundblaster live (value) 4:1
Tom
Never really worked with AMD before first time, not really understanding if i have made simple mistakes.Right bit of an update
I have the machine ticking over quite nicely @ FSB 133. This i can increase to about 155 and then it dies. So again i have tried to run it at 166 and i get the blank screen the the d-plate registers a Memory Detection Test and stops there.
I have tried to run the system from start at the FSB 155 and i get the same problem with the system hanging.
I have been reading a bit on the forums and found that it might be my power supply. I am using
A-CASE INDUSTRIAL INC (Says AMD recommended, a bit old though)
model : LC-A300ATX
3.3v - 20A
5v - 30A
12 - 10A
5 and 3v combined = 160w
300 watt max.
Also i have the crutial memory mod in there which i also realise could be the problem.
I was hoping if someone could maybe help me identify the most likley course from how the system is acting to what the problem might be, also could it be to do with the CPU temp.
cheers
Tom
System Manufacturer MSI
System Model MS-6712
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~1533 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. Version 07.00T, 02/04/2001
SMBIOS Version 2.3
cpu temp = 47
fsb = 133
Got the system running on the default voltages -
Restart problem with kt4v motherboard
I have a kt4v motherboard with an athlon xp2600 processor and the whole computer just randomly reboots and then when it gets to the xp load screen(after bios set up) it rebbots again and again. can anybody tell me whats happening and how to sort it out?
The only way to find an answer is knowing much more about your PC: Video card ? Memory ? Power source ? O.S. ? Peripherals ? Heat sink ? and so on. Look at your Power Source about teh dif. Volts-Amp it gives and the brand. 8)

Unable to send crash/error problem report
Hi There,
I have recently noticed that when a program I am running either force quits on it's own or I have to manually force quit the program, I am unable to send crash/error problem report to Apple. This has happened for all my programs from Safari and iTunes to recently Microsoft Word. The crashing messed up my internet as I had to give up using Firefox (because it kept crashing and wouldn't send a report) so I downloaded Chrome.
Yesterday, Microsoft Word had to force quit because I manually quit the program but it never closed. It kept running in the background at 192% under my operating processes. When I force quit Word, it gave me the option to report the problem or ignore it. I chose to send a report but once that Problem Report screen loaded, it would not let me send to Apple, stating "Your submission could not be submitted. Please try again later."
I have tried numerous times since all to no avail. As I mentioned, this happens on a lot of programs lately and I don't know what to do to fix it. Below are the specs of my Macbook. I can copy the problem details, but is lengthy.
Any help/feedback is greatly appreciated.Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Apple is apparently no longer accepting crash reports for 'Leopard' OS X 10.5.8.

Typical disk-maintenance activities when crashes occur include using Verify, and Repair Permissions on your hard drive (probably labeled Macintosh HD), using Disk Utility.
10% to 15% of hard-drive capacity is generally acknowledged as the minimum amount of free space needed for adequate performance. -

Inspite of updating the device software several times the restarting problem still prevails.
Kindly advise,

SunnyHi sunny3788
If even after updating your device software your device is still having the same problem then can you confirm a few things like how many third party application you are having on your device, or are you still having any of those third party application that you are having before this update? If it is then I prefer Uninstall all those applications to see it reboot stops.
If problem disappear then install one application at a time to see which application is responsible .Also as you mentioned on your previous thread that you brought your device recently so I think your device is still under warranty and you can approach your carrier because it might be an hardware issue. And in that situation you can ask for a replacement.

MY Iphone Has a restart problem again and again wot to do please tell me
Basics from the user guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. If you go through ALL of those steps and you still have issues, you need to get your phone checked out by Apple.
