LabVIEW 3.0.1 to 2011?

Hi!
I am a beginner in LabVIEW and I should write a new VI for a solar cell in our university. It is used for experiments for other students. But unfortunately the devices are very old ( Keithley 228a and 199 ). So there are some problems using GPIB and an Agilent 82357B. So, for better understandings what is going on there and to get started I can use the old VI.
And that's why I need your help here.
The old VI was written in LabVIEW 3.0.1 and is still running on windows 3.11. When I try to open the .llb I can only see the frontpanel without any possibilities to edit the block diagram. shortcuts like ctrl+e or f didn't work. In the help section of LV 2011 I could see that it's not possible to upconvert such an old VI to 2011. Actually I just need to see the block diagram on the VI, that would be a big help. Maybe some of you still have and old LV Version to help me get the block diagram or even convert it to 2011, if possible.
I found another topic with the same problem in windows 3.11 and LabVIEW 3.0.1. But for me, the shortcuts ( http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/In-LabVIEW-3-0-1-how-to-open-a-VI-diagram-opens-panel-only/m-p/53784... ) - last post- didn't work. Maybe LV 3.0.1 used some other shortcuts.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings from germany
Marco

Sorry for doublepost.
I tried to stop the vi by pressing ctrl + period but nothing happens. I hear the hdd doing something by pressing ctrl + x like cut and paste. But other commands didn't work.
So I tried to use the VI as a subVI. At first, it worked to put the VI to the diagram. When I open the VI with ctrl + doubleclick I get an error. I try to translate it:
LabVIEW Caused a General Protection Fault in <unknown> "185F:BADBILabview will be closed.
I've read something about it and maybe it's a problem caused by low memory. Cause after that errormessage, I can't start labview anymore and have to restart the computer. A message appears "unable to start the application because you need at least 4096000 bytes of memory. "
But I think actually I could open the VI with ctrl-doubleclick on the subVI. But I don't know if it would open the diagram or again the runmode of the whole VI.
I will try this again and hope that I can open it just once. Any other ideas? Maybe I don't have the rights to open the diagram?
again, thank you for your help!
EDIT:
I could open the VI now, but again it opens just the whole VI without title- or menubar. I tried to open it with ctrl + doubleclick but it seems that ctrl doesn't have any effect. By just doubleclicking the VI it opens the same way.

  • LabVIEW 2012 LLB for VBAI 2011

    Hi
I'm trying to build some labview vi's in LabVIEW 2012, to be compatible with Vision Builder AI 2011. I want to include some shared variables. I have the library file containing a string shared variable and a labview VI with just a string control into the shared variable. This is to read text from the vision build inspection. Both the library and the vi is saved under version 2010 but when I try to make a LLB file, the versions change to 2012 again. Do you have any inpute into why this could be?
    Cheers.

You need to use the LV project to create a source distribution that includes all the dependencies (including vi.lib). Then close out LV 2012 to make sure you don't accidentally get any cross linking. Open the main VI of your built LLB with LV 2012 and then go to File>>Save for Previous. If there are any licensed VIs from vi.lib included, those may not save for previous, but I think this is what you should try to do.
I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but if you want to use shared variables, VBAI (2010 or later) can update a shared variable with it's results (or read the variable if you want to pass data to VBAI), and then any version of LV can read/write that shared variable because shared variables are not LV version specific so you don't have to have the same version of LV to read/write shared variables. If this is all you want to do, you could just keep your LV code in LV 2012 and read/write the variable that is used by VBAI 2011. You can also use the VBAI API to control the inspection from any version of LV 2010 or higher regardless of the version of VBAI. You can see an example here:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Vision Builder AI XXXX\API Examples\LabVIEW Examples
Let us know if this still does not address your question and provide more details if this doesn't help.

That sounds backwards. Drivers are separate from LabVIEW. Do you mean that the newest DAQmx 9.4 and NI-RIO 4.0 (etc.) drivers no longer support LV 8.6? I don't think that is true. According to the readme files, 8.6 should be supported.

Would it be possible for you to post the project here so that I can create a report of this particular error and submit it to R&D's database? If the project is too large/proprietary, I understand, but if we can reproduce this error at NI, then we can work on eliminating this bug from future Labview releases.

  • Minimum coverage value should be greater than zero (host machine)

    Hi,
I am working on an host machine (windows 7, LabVIEW RTE 2010, VAS 2010 (evaluate version)) with an application created on another machine (Windows XP, LabVIEW 2010, Vision Development Module 2011).

    Greetings, nicocmd;
First and foremost, it is excellent that you are now up and running!
In what concerns your question, do you mean to continuously see the image displayed in a live feed and only save it when the user clicks a button or some such? What do you mean with only using IMAQdx VIs? Would it refer to not using the IMAQ For USB VIs?
If you would desire to take in images from the camera and display them in a live feed, you could simply set up an IMAQdx acquisition and either use the Grab or the GetImage VIs and have a case structure in which you decide whether or not to save the image that was just displayed (or the next one that will be taken).
I did a tad of research and came across the following forum post; in it, another user posted a VI that might be of service to you, for it saves images into a tiff file.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/IMAQdx-grab-and-save-images-i-e-PNG-TIFF-etc-not-AVIs/td-p/1044201
Finally, if you would mean using only IMAQdx VIs and not IMAQ, then I do not believe it is possible simply because the vision utilities (Such as creating the image memory location) will be part of the IMAQ palette.

  • NI registration wizard at 50% CPU

    Hi,
It happened to me twice now that after installing some NI software the process RegistrationWizard*32 stayed at 50% CPU even after the install was finished until I terminated the process manually.
I don't remember exactly when it happened last time. This time it happened when I updated using the NI update manager (the update was some patch for application builder). I'm on Win7 64bit with both LabVIEW 64 and 32 bit 2011 installed.
Using the task manager I generated an 80MB dump file of this process before I terminated, if that would be helpful to anyone.
    Thanks,

  • The waveform chart in the tab control

    Hi,
I'd like to change the plot number and the plot name of a waveform chart in a tab control.
First of all, it works fine without a tab control, but I have many charts(such as temperature, pressure, voltage...) so that I put each chart into the pages of a tab control.
Error 1077 happened when I "add" the plot number and change the plot name.
The following is a sample I made to describe this problem.
Let's begin if the number is 20, so there are 20 plots in that chart in page 2.

Do not turn on the switch, change C to 3, minus N to 18, and run it and it can be seen that the tab control will switch to page1.
Switch to page 2, and the plot names are updated but left some relic.
Add N to 22, change C  to 2, and run it again.
Error 1077 happened! Switch to page 2, and the plot number is still 20, and the plot names are updated to 20.
Run it again, and it works fine!
It is very tricky for me.
If I switch to the page 2 first and run the program, it works fine too.
(That is, if the switch is turn on, then the program works fine.)
The LabVIEW version of mine is 2011.
I'm not sure I missed or misunderstanded something about this problem.
Does someone can give me some suggestion? Thanks a lot
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi, Bob_Schor,
I'm sorry my poor expression confused you.
All I want is to demonstrate that the chart in the 'hidden' page of the tab control results in the error when the user tried to add plot number and change the plot name.
To make a scenario more specific, there is two pages in a tab control, one is for setting, the other is for the plotting.
When the user change the channel configuration, the chart is going to change correspondingly.
If I'd like to change the plot number and plot names, there is possiby a problem when staying in the setting page.
I hope I do not mislead you to the wrong direction
You're right I should make the parameters more clear to facilitate reader understand my purpose easily.
Switch True means switch to the chart page before the modification of the chart, and return to the first page after the modification. Switch False means stay in the first page while the chart is modified.
C is used to make the plot name different among each execution. If the plot names of the chart in the previous execution are [101, 102, 103, 104, 105], and I'd like to decrease the plot names to three items [101, 102, 103], but in the case of the false switch, it will be [101, 102, 103, 104, 105], it is hard to tell if it is really updated. I can change C to 2, and the plot names in this execution will be [201, 202, 203, 104, 105], it could be shown it is updated indeed but left some unexpected plot names[104, 105](I call it relic...).
N is just the plot number the user can increase or decrease it.
I'm afraid of being the guy you mentioned...
Like my original post, I probably have several charts to show their results(temperature, pressure, voltage...) so that I make a tab control of 6 pages, and put a chart in each page. The user can also determine the channel numbers of each kind of measurement before the acquisition. I didn't think too much about it(actually now I still have this direct simple idea only...), what would you do if you have to show these data? Very thanks to your reply

In your application.exe are you trapping ALL errors and displaying them someway? What if any errors are you seeing or you don't know if any errors are being thrown becase you are not trapping on them in your .exe. Errors are handled differently inside an exe.
Just to make sure - application.exe created on system with LabVIEW 2010 will need LabVIEW 2010 runtime engine installed on the other system with LabVIEW 2011 and vise versa. But you did say application.exe is running so I assume you have the run time engines installed.
Then there is the "dev0" vs "dev4". How are you referencing (or addressing) your pci-6713 devices on each machine when you create your task?
Can your application.exe use "dev0" on one systems and then know to use "dev4" on the other?
One way is to in MAX set the alias of the 6713 to the same on both systems.

  • Lecroy Wavesurfer VICP and LXI/VXI11

    Hello,
I want to connect a Lecroy Wavesurfer 454 to Labview.
First I used the VICP connection, and installed the VICP passport.
It does not work with NI MAX but it does with Lecroy Wavestudio.
Then I used the LXI/VXI-11 connection but Ni MAX does not detect my scope and Lecroy Wavestudio as well.
Further information, I don't use both softwares at the same time, the scope and the computer have ping responds.
I have updated the scope to the latest firmware 6.8.1.4 32 bit Firmware Upgrade.
The only way that Ni MAX reachs to connect to the scope it throug : TCPIP0::ipadress:1861OCKET. But then I have Time out error.
    Thanks for help

    Hello,
You have a few choices here.  NI-MAX (more specifically, NI-VISA) stopped working with the VICP resource when NI introduced 64 bit LabVIEW support. (It stopped when the NI-VISA Interactive Tool GUI changed).
You can use an older version of NI-VISA (I do not recommend this method), or you can simply enable the VICP passport in NI-MAX and use LabVIEW to test the connection.
The VISA resource for the VICP interface will be:  VICP::<IP address of scope>
I have attached a VI I wrote (pretty easy, but I added some images and comments to help with the scope side and resource names as well) to help test this out. (I have it in LabVIEW versions 2009, 2010, and 2011)  I am providing the 2011 version.  Let me know if you need one of the others.
The VICP connection uses the custom port but with the resource you used (that specified the port), the VICP passport is not being utilized by NI-VISA so you may get responses to some legacy 488 commands but that is the extent of it.  (i.e. *IDN? may work, but C1:VDIV 1.0 would not).
    I hope this helps!

  • Configure session error # BFFF800B

I have a Dalsa camera model CR-GM00-H6400.  It is a GigE camera.  I have configured and used other Dalsa cameras on this system, but this camera gives me a session configuration error as soon as I click on it.  The Dalsa viewer works fine.  The camera is hooked up and talking.  I can ping it.  Why will NI-IMAQDx not start a session?.  I am using the labview drivers supplied with my 2011 release and I also have the latest vision development module.
Also I have a Balser Scout camera model SCA640-120gm which the image comes up as a 641X494 pixels giving a skew to the final display.  Is there any way to change this in NI-IMAQDx viewer in MAX.  I have not tried this in the vision module yet because of the poor results in MAX caused me to switch cameras and then I found the problem described above.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

First the easy question.  The error occurs on clicking on the camera and not on the grab.  The screen shot of the error is below.  Also a screen capture of my MAX is below.
    I am running XP SP2.
Since I cannot even get the session started I cannot check on the packet size.  No grab is in progress.  The camera however indicates that it is connected to the application through a green LED.  This goes out when I select away from the camera.  There seems to be a problem bringing up the session screen with this camera.  It works for the Genie C1400 which I also can connect and grab images with.
