  • Upgrade from LMS 3.0.1 to LMS 3.1 or 3.2 and problem with devices update

    Hello
How to upgrade from LMS 3.0 December 2007 update to LMS 3.1 or LMS 3.2. The problem is the large number of C2960S-24TS-L  switches that my organization has and cannot managed them..
I tried to upgrade devices through Software Center but always Ciscoworks informs me with the following message.
"Error while downloading package information from Cisco.com for the selected  products. See the log file for details".
Also i can not run EOL/EOS inventory report. The message is
" INVREP0102: Cisco.com user credentials are invalid. Enter correct credentials." I check my credentials and is right.
The server  has access to www through proxy without any restrictions.
In the past I've already updated devices through the software center. Also in the past i ve run EOS/EOL inventory reports.

Has anyone knows what can be the problem??.
    Thanks

    Hi,
the problem to access cisco.com is because of a "bug". Its ID is CSCto46927.
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCto46927
    Symptom:
After the 16th of June 2011 LMS will no longer  be able to download Software and Device Package updates, or PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information from CCO
    Conditions:
Hosted  services in Cisco.com that are being leveraged by LMS, for downloading  the latest Software and Device Package updates, as well as the PSIRT and  End of Sale/Life information are being migrated to a new framework and  the old services will be retired.
This will affect all LMS 3.x and 4.x versions.
Refer to https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16806 for more information
    Workaround:
Users of LMS 3.2.1 , 4.0 should install the patch that can be downloaded from cisco.com
Users of earlier version will need to upgrade to LMS 3.2 and then install the LMS 3.2 SP1 patch set before installing the patch"
Because of that it is necessary to upgrade not only to 3.1 or 3.2, you need 3.2.1 to get the patch and then access to cisco.com again.
The question about the better way for updating I can't answer. I did a update to 3.1 and then to 3.2. But I think you will find the requirements for the updates in the notes for them.
But I can't find LMS 3.1 in the cisco download center. There is only 3.2 and 3.2.1 available for me.

  • Upgrade to LMS 4.2.5 - dmgtd.ext being used by another process

    I'm upgrading from LMS 4.2.4 to LMS 4.2.5 on a Window's system.
    The upgrade wizard starts and the prerequisites are met. It errors out with the following message;
"These files are currently being used by another running process. You must stop all processes listed below to proceed successfully with this installation.
    D:\CSCOpx\bin\dmgtd.exe"
The processes have stopped though. I ran the command "net stop crmdmgtd" and it returned "The Cisco Prime Daemon Manager service is not started."
So, does anyone know how to get the dmgtd.exe stopped so that I can proceed with the upgrade?
    Thanks,
    Mike S.

    Hi Mike,
After shutdown the LMS services (net stop crmdmgtd)
then Open the "task Manager" > Click on "Processes" and look for dmgtd.exe or dbsrv10.exe , sm_server or any other LMS services running  , I am sure there should be one . Kill it Manually from the Task Manager and run the installation again.
    Thanks-

  • Problems upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 - the backup fails.

I'm upgrading from LMS 3.0 to LMS 3.2 on Solaris. I've met all of the prereq's, patches, etc. It keeps failing on the Backup...It claims I need 15 Gig for the backup. The backup directory I'm using (/opt/backup) has 35 Gig free, so that shouldn't be the issue.

I've tried this multiple times and each time it appears to fail on a different file/folder in the sw_images directory. This is our FTP directory where we store lots of IOS images for download. I've removed each of these files it errors out on and it keeps failing. I just removed all files from the sw_images folder and am trying the backup again now.
I'm attaching the backup.log which contains the failure information for each backup I've tried in the past two days.
My main question is...can I skip this backup somehow? I've got another LMS 3.0 system that I can export everything I need from. Skipping the backup isn't an option on the install/upgrade? It gives me the option to quit the install or try the backup again.
    Thanks,

You can skip the backup with a hidden option:
    ./setup.sh -b nobackup
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable until figuring out why the backup has been failing, ostensibly because tar is running into the 255-char limit (100 for the filename and 155 for the path), a result of the many iterations of the following:
    sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/cisco_configs/sw_images/

  • Upgrading from LMS 4.1 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure

Looking for some information and confirmation on the upgrade process.
Currently we are running LMS 4.1 with a valid SAS Service Contract which will allow me to upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.1 or Prime Infrastructure 1.2 using the upgrade tool at no charge. After using the tool I am given access to download PI1.1 or PI1.2, however, it only actually let me download PI1.1 but said i do not have the proper permissions to download the 1.2 license. I also noticed that the software images for 1.2 are not available ont he ciso download page.
I am wondering what the latest version of Prime Infrastructure I will be able to upgrade to without an additional purchase. Can I upgrade up to all the way up to 1.4 or can I only go up to 1.2 (but then where is the download for the software).
If i can upgrade to 1.4 then what path should I take? 1.1 to 1.3 to 1.4? Just skip 1.2 since the download is not available and it will not let me download the license file?
    Thank you for your help

LMS 4.x to Prime 1.x would not be considered a functional or recommended "upgrade" for most intents as you would lose several major capabilities (Topology, Ciscoview, many reports, compliance templates, etc.). Your best path right now would be to move your LMS along to the current version - 4.2.4. The release notes explain the upgrade path for that.
Licensing and upgrade eligibility-wise you need SASU for PI (not plain SAS for LMS) for major upgrades (i.e to go to 2.0). An LMS SAS contract entitles you to migrate to PI 1.2 which in effect means 1.3 although Cisco had some issues with updating the ordering system so there was not actually a SKU for PI 1.3 sold - only the 1.2 version which, when combined with your LMS SAS service contract, entitles you to move to PI 1.3 (or 1.4 but that's not generally recommended). More details are in the Prime Ordering and Licensing Guides here.
Personally, I recommend customers with existing LMS 4.x installations wait until PI 2.1 comes out to consider the upgrade. 2.0 still misses several tools present in LMS 4.x.
If you really want to move over to PI, you can export the data from LMS 4.2.4 and import into PI 1.3 (or 2.0).

  • How can I tell the LMS which variables I want to pass to it?

Hi I am working on developing an online course and I am required to put it to a locally-developed LMS which I don't have access and control to.
What I now know is that:
    1. This LMS can only accept data passed from a singlep-packaged SCORM;
    2. A single packaged SCORM can pass two variables to this LMS: total score and pass/fail;
However, the customer wish to keep track on the learners' performance as much as possible, which means they want more data than just the final score
    and pass/fail.
Can someone explain to me how I can specify which variables to be passed to the LMS? Even I understand that I may still not be able to get it work, given that I don't have any access/control to the set up of the LMS, I wish to understand the mechanism, and to be able to explain why I can't make this happen to my supervisor.
    Thanks for any inputs.

In SCORM-compliant LMSs the "mechanism" for transferring interaction data is via JavaScript variables.  SCORM uses a standard JavaScript API that all compliant LMSs are supposed to understand and interpret correctly.  (I use the words "supposed to" because the reality tends to be that they all interpret the standard a little differently.)
If this is a "locally developed LMS" then all bets are off.  You should in theory be able to transfer quite a bit of information, but with a home-grown roll-your-own system at the other end, you have no way of knowing how it will handle that information.
You need to talk to whoever built or is currently in charge of this LMS, hopefully someone with technical knowledge and expertise.  Get them to tell you how much of the SCORM standard is actually supported.  Only then will you know if you can use some more advanced Captivate functionality to pass more scoring information (e.g. interaction data as well as score/pass/fail).
If your current LMS is truly only able to accept a couple of values, and your customer wants more than this, handball the issue back to them.  They'll either have to upgrade their LMS or revise their requirements.

  • Problems with Inventory after upgrade to LMS 4.0.1

    Hello,
after an upgrade to LMS 4.0.1 there is a problem with the inventory. The inventory is not working for all switches, most of them are with CAT OS
    with different versions.
I have found a bug that resembles the situation but it looks like this was a bug with the previous version of LMS - CSCsv65621.
Any ideas for some other problems that may cause LMS 4.0.1 not to find in the inventory all the devices?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vesko

First these are the only CAT OS devices supported:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.0.1/device_support/table/lms401sdt.html#Catalyst%20OS%20Devices
    1. What kind of devices are we talking about here?
    2. Enable the debugs from Admin --> System --> Debug Settings --> Config and Image Management Debugging settings.  Select ICServer and enable the debugs the modules listed.
    3. Duplicate the problem.
    4. Post the show ver along with the LMS logs from CSCOpx/log directory  called dcmaclinet.log, dcmaservices.log, and ICServer.log. Give me a  sample IP or hostname to work with to troubleshoot.
    5. Get the jobs logs from CSCOpx/files/rme/jobs/ICServer/ . The job ID is from step 3 when you recreated the job to duplicate the problem.

  • DFM Error after Upgrade from LMS 3.1 to LMS 3.2

    Hi Cisco Community,
I have a big problem with the LMS  Application Device Fault Manager 3.2.0 after an Upgrade from LMS 3.1 to LMS 3.2
The LMS upgrade finished without error.
The Alerts and Activities Diplay encountered an error with the following message:
"An exception occured. Please check the AAD.log file for further details"
You find the "pdshow"  and "netstat" output and also the AAD.log, DeviceManagent.log, EPM.log, brstart.log and TISServer.log attached to this message
    Everything else works fine.
A Cisco Daemon Manager restart doesn't fix this problem.
Any ideas to fix this problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Best regards
    Stephan B.

The output of the command "brcontrol" was:
    Error attaching to broker: S25B2005:9002!
I found a workaround for this error message at the release notes for the Cisco Unified Operations Manager.
    The workaround is:
    1.) net stop crmdmgtd
    2.) Wait 15 minutes
    3.) net start crmdmgtd
After completion of this workaround, I got the following output:
Broker is located at: S25B2005:9002      Started: May 07 11:08:47 2010
Domain Host Name         Port     PID State   Last Change Time

    DFM1   S25B2005.drv.bb  21903   13988 RUNNING May 07 11:08:55 2010
You find this outputs attached to this message.
Unfortunately the errors in the DFM application are the same as before.
Also I get some error messages in the "Polling and Threshold" menu.
You find this error message attached to this message.
I already execute the following steps from the Cisco TAC to solve this problem.....without success.
Stop Daemons >>> net stop crmdmgtd from CLI.
Open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmFh. Delete dfmFh.log.
Go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmFh>  from CLI and run:
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmFh.db from CLI.
Similarly open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmEpm. Delete dfmEpm.log.
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmEpm.db from CLI.
Similarly open windows explorer and go to \CSCOpx\databases\dfmInv. Delete dfmInv.log.
    dbsrv10.exe -f dfmInv.db from CLI.
Note : Please check a screen will pop up each time you execute these commands.
Then, Start daemons >>> net start crmdmgtd from CLI.

  • Ciscoworks LMS 3.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2

In order to complete the upgrade the LMS 3.x runs over a physical server that ends with the upgrade(server its gona be retired), the think is that the Cisco Prime comes with an UCS and its gona run over a VM. The question here is the "Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1 - Maj Upg from LMS 2.x/3.x" media could be runs as clean install, I mean with no LMS 3.x intalled  before? an the "Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 1.5K Device Maj Upg Lic" could be registered with no license installed of LMS 3.x?

There are a couple of things to distinguish:
    1. The product SKU you need to order to migrate from LMS 3 to LMS 4.2.
    2. The license file that is installed on that new LMS server.
#1 is based on Cisco agreeing, usually through the partner or reseller you are working with, that you are entitled to order the upgrade SKU (vs. buy a complete new product). The upgrade SKUs are all listed in the ordering guide here.
L-PI12-1.5K-UP (note - NOT the 1.1 product description you noted in the original post) would be the SKU for a major upgrade from LMS 2.x/3.x to the current Prime Infrastructure 1.2 release at the 1500 device license level. That upgrade includes licenses for both PI 1.2 and Prime LMS 4.2. You may choose which to install - most LMS customers stick with LMS for now as PI 1.2 does not yet have full feature parity. Your managed devices should not exceed 1500 combined (in this case) but that combined number is not enforced technically by the product's license daemon.
Once you have purchased the product and have the media you can install it on any host that meets the installation prerequisites as far as OS, memory, disk etc. A clean installation of LMS does not check for or require a previous installation as far as technical checks.
#2 - Once you have installed the new LMS server (and optionally a step near the end of installation, you need to add in the license file (*.lic file). That is obtained through the Cisco licensing portal (or via the TAC if you prefer) using the Product Activation Key (PAK) received with your product.

  • LMS 3.0 to Prime 1.1/LMS 4.2 migration

    Hello,
A customer is asking to upgrade their LMS 3.0 to Prime 1.1.  However, the customer or their previous system's integrator never actually installed LMS 3.0.  The licensing and PAK were never used as well.  My question is, can I still use the migration top level part # R-PI-1.1-UP-K9 to upgrade LMS 3.0 to Prime 1.1 because there was no licensing ever installed?  How would the migration of the current licensing work with the new licensing PAK if that is the case?  Or does the customer have to purchase a fresh Prime 1.1 licensing (top level part # R-PI-1.1-K9) because LMS 3.0 was never installed?
    Kind regards,
    Chad

As long as Cisco ordering validates that the customer has a LMS 3.0 license, they will allow the upgrade SKU to be ordered. It doesn't matter if it was ever installed or used.
They should go with Prime 1.2 (LMS 4.2 component) vs 1.1

  • LMS3.2-Swim: can't upgrade 2960 catalyst using ssh

    Hi,
Customer has LMS 3.2 on windows.
We can't upgrade 2960 using ssh, using telnet is ok.
    There is no firewall.
You will find debug log for 2 devices:
    - 2960-H2-B1-2 : upgrade by ssh failed
    - 2960-H2-B1 : upgrade by telnet is ok
all 2960 devices upgrade by telnet are ok
all 2960 devices upgrade by ssh are failed
    You will find debug log.
    Many thanks,
    Elisabeth

Given the timeout problem, you are likely encountering                                                                                                                     CSCsu51740. The problem is that SSH causes RME to lock up, then the job times out.  The problem is fixed in 12.2(50)SE1.  The workaround is to upgrade to 12.2(50)SE1 using telnet, then revert back to SSH for future upgrades.

  • Can I upgrade my Sony Laptop's Graphic Card?

My laptop is relatively new and I only bought it a few months ago, model #VPCEB. It used to be that some laptops would come with 2-3 options of graphics chipsets, and you could swap between them, plus manufacturers might use the same form factor for a series of laptops (For example, all Dell Inspiron 8000 series units used the same card form factor - so you could upgrade an I8000 to the graphics chipset that came with the I8200).  This is no longer the case, even the highend gaming laptops don't have upgradeable graphics.
