LMS 3.2 discovery problem
Hi
I am doing a POC at one of the customer location for LMS 3.2
Now the problem i am fcaing is that when i have enabled the discovery based on CDP i am only able to discover two to 3 cisoc device only.
The customer has around 75 cisco devices including routers.
Its is not able to discovers the MPLS router across WAN however it is discovering the router where peer to peer link is there.
Am i missing something
I have enabled CDP in all the devices but still it is not able to discover the devoves.
I am using the evaluation version.
Thanks
Make sure the SNMP credentials you have configured in Discovery are the correct ones, and that the LMS server is capable of polling these missing devices with SNMP. You can use a sniffer trace filtering on udp/161 traffic to see what Discovery is sending, and whether or not the devices are replying correctly.
Yes, Discovery will pick up firewalls with the ICMP module provided the firewall allows LMS to ping it, and poll it with SNMP.

CiscoWorks LMS 3.2 device driver discovery problem
Hi,
We have many devices Cisco 3825 on our network. For some of them, the device driver is correctly discovered but not for others.

I didn't see any new device driver package on Cisco site.
Does somebody has an idea ?
Many thanks,
Fabien GIRAUDI'm not sure I clearly understand the problem. Are you saying that some 3825s are not being discovered by Common Services Discovery? If so, are they showing up as unreachable, or are they not showing up at all in the Discovery reports?

Discovery problem in LMS 4.0.1
Hello all,
I have a problem discovering some ASA firewalls on a network. I have several ASA firewalls on this /24 network, but some of them I can't discover e.g 149.x.x.107 is discovered ok, but 149.x.x.20 I can't discover. It seems that it's not even trying to discover the devices I have problems with. Nothing is shown in the discovery log
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advanceIf I ping the firewalls, then I can see all the firewalls in the ARP table, including the firewalls I can't discover.
Below is a part of the ARP table from the seed device

Please find enclosed the csdiscovery.log which indicates the following error
1000 [main] DEBUG com.cisco.nm.csdiscovery.CSDiscoveryManager - FATAL: Exception occured in the start discovery Exception occured during start of discovery in CS.
Reason : failed to initialize DiscoveryController
I am also enclosing the CSDiscovery-config.xml under the config directory and the specific job as well.
ngdiscovery.log shows 0 bytes. I am not sure if it is to be populated only when we initiate some debugging?
Thanks a lot
GautamIt seems you're missing some critical files. Under NMSROOT/conf/csdiscovery, you should have the following zip files:
SharedDiscoveryAUS.zipSharedDiscoveryCluster.zipSharedDiscoveryGeneral.zipSharedDiscoveryIGX.zip
The casusers group should have full control on all four files. If these files really are missing, you will need to contact TAC to get new ones, or you will need to reinstall Common Services. -
Hi,
I am having problem starting device discovery in Campus Manager. After looking at a couple of different things, noticed that DeviceDiscovery is in TRANSIENT TERMINATED ProcessState.
I attached device discovery properties file. Please anyone check and help me to find the issue. Thanks.
Best Regards
S.RajkumarTransient terminated is a normal state for DeviceDiscovery. See my LMS daemon cheat sheet at https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-8798 for more details. When Discovery stops, the daemon will terminate.

LMS 4.2 | discovery based on specific IP Adress
Hi Netpro
1)is there any methods to let LMS 4.2 discover Cisco devices based on specific ip like Loopback address ? coz in my Cisco devices i have more than ip address configured , please advice?
thanks
ibrahim1. Please refer to the context-sensitive help when you get to this step. It will give you a page with very detailed file formats and fields that are used (see screenshot below from my lab server). That page is also in Chapter 4 of the Inventory Management guide online.
2. Device adjacencies are determined via a correlation of various MIB variables including CDP neighbor details and other details. I recommend you read through Joe Clarke's document on understanding LMS discovery.
One thing to note is that is is best to have the IP addresses of the devices in DNS. If that is difficult for whatever reason, the first create a local hosts file with the devices. You will get better results if the device IPs resolve to host names. -
LMS 4.2 discovery does not resolve hostname
Hi,
I'm trying automatic discovery with Ping on sweep module. I'm using the following configuration (you can also see it in the attached file):
discovery module - ping on sweep
global seed device - 192.168.6.35
preferred DCR display name - DNS resolvable hostname
The LMS server has its hostfile populated with the device ip/hostname that i'm testing with and resolving from the server works in both directions. Nevertheless, after discovery proccess is finished, the device is added in DCR with its IP address as dispaly name (screenshot in the attached file).
I've tried the same method in CiscoWorks 4.0.1 and it works fine.
I'm attaching the debug log files from discovery test. The LMS is running on Windows Server 2008 standard

LMS 4.2 discovery failure
Hi
I have Cisco LMS 4.2 installed i was using SNMP V2c for polling my devices. After i turned on SNMPv3 all devices are reachable and even when i make credentials check it's ok, but the issue when i access any device from search pane it shows me in the collector status " Discovery failure"
Steps i made to troubleshoot but not succeeded :
1. Rediscover Devices
2. Modify SNMP timeout & retry settings
Devices: Catalyst 2960 , Catalyst 3560
I've attached a snapshot of collector error
Please help

Hi,
I have successfully connected my WLC 2500 controller with 20 light weight Access points 1262N.
I have used the internal DHCP server option in the controller for the AP's and client.
Port 1 of the WLC is trunked with the switch 2960. All is working fine
The problem comes when I remove the Ethernet cable from the management interface and restart the WLC. The AP's don't come back. If I don't restart the WLC the AP's remain.
On the other hand, when I leave the Ethernet cable connected to the management port with my pc and then reboot the WLC, the AP's appear.
Seems like whenever im not physically connected to the management port of the WLC and restart it, the AP's don't come back. The only way to make them come back again is to connect my PC to the management port.
Please help me. What seems to be the problem here ?
Best Regards,Hi,
All 20 Pc;s are in one area connected to the same AP im assuming. The PC;s are stationary, so didnt check for roaming, but generally my laptop connectivity is fine while roaming. It rarely disconnects but users have complained that it did disconncect a few times.
Please see below the WLC configuration:

LMS 4.2.4 -- Problem with UT & Inventory when using SNMP v3
Hello,
I have created a Credential-Set with SNMP v2 and SNMP v3 credentials and enabled at the discovery settings the fallback option from snmp v3 to v2. For the discovery this setting works but at the inventory collection and the UT it seems that the LMS just tries the snmp v3 credentials. Is there a way to enable also a fallback to snmp v2? Because now only our devices with snmp v3 get a success all other devices get a failed.
Using LMS 4.2.4

DavidHi David,
What type of credentials set you are using in DCR ?
there is no fall back mechnasim for Inventory collectio and User tracking .
Inventory collection and user tracking will get the credentials from the credentials that you are using in DCR .
Inventory should be sucessfull as long as you have correct credentils defied in DCR.
Thanks-

Hi everyone.
I just installed SCCM 2012 on windows Server 2012 R2 and it on (real) HOST PC not a VM.
before I installed SQL 2012 And domain on same server. i know it's Far not recommended. but
Problem is my SCCM 2012 cannot discover any device in my network, when OS it self (in: my computer\ My network) can see all the host pc that i have in my environment.
i turned on all the methods of discovery.
Please help.i tried everything, even reinstall, everything from beginning,
1. install Win Server 2008 R2, install all updates, and then activate it.
2 Roles : a. Active Directory Domain Services
b. DNS
c. File Services
d. web Server (IIS)
e. WSUS
3. made container :System management
. WSUS + updates WSUS-KB2720211-x64, WSUS-KB2734608-x64
.opened ports
.did changes in IIS
. install SQL 2012 with cuml Updates "SQLServer2012-KB2703275-x64"
. checked TCP/IP
. installed windows assessment and deployment kit for win 8.1
and finally
.installed SCCm 2012 R2 . without any errors, just 2 warnings.
pc is Domain controller and wind Firewall
BUt still no sense

I am currently setting up a 4402 controller and lwapps. Our wireless right now is all managed by corp and is a combination of autonomous and lwapp. Here is my problem.
I have setup option43 in my dhcp scope. When I connect a fresh radio to the same subnet as the controller I see that the radio goes to the controller but then there is a message and the radio goes to the corp controller.
Here is the boot log from a new radio.
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Controller address 10.200.190.10(MINE) obtained through DHCP
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Did not get log server settings from DHCP.
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Performing DNS resolution for CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.gtna.gt.ds
%LWAPP-3-CLIENTEVENTLOG: Controller address 10.148.198.7(CORP) obtained through DNS
I see that message about a log server. Did I miss something?
thanks
tonyHi Guys,
I just thought that I would link this info for the LWAPP Layer 3 startup. +5 points for both Wesley and Leo for your ongoing great work here :)
The LWAPP AP goes through this process on startup for Layer 3 mode:
The LAP boots and DHCPs an IP address if it was not previously assigned a static IP address.
The LAP sends discovery requests to controllers through the various discovery algorithms and builds a controller list. Essentially, the LAP learns as many management interface addresses for the controller list as possible via:
DHCP option 43 (good for global companies where offices and controllers are on different continents)
DNS entry for âcisco-lwapp-controllerâ (good for local businesses - can also be used to find where brand new APs join)
Management IP addresses of controllers the LAP remembers previously
A Layer 3 broadcast on the subnet
Over the air provisioning
Statically configured information
From this list, the easiest method to use for deployment is to have the LAPs on the same subnet as the management interface of the controller and allow the LAP's Layer 3 broadcast to find the controller. This method should be used for companies that have a small network and do not own a local DNS server.
The next easiest method of deployment is to use a DNS entry with DHCP. You can have multiple entries of the same DNS name. This allows the LAP to discover multiple controllers. This method should be used by companies that have all of their controllers in a single location and own a local DNS server. Or, if the company has multiple DNS suffixes and the controllers are segregated by suffix.
DHCP option 43 is used by large companies to localize the information via the DHCP. This method is used by large enterprises that have a single DNS suffix. For example, Cisco owns buildings in Europe, Australia, and the United States. In order to ensure that the LAPs only join controllers locally, Cisco cannot use a DNS entry and must use DHCP option 43 information to tell the LAPs what the management IP address of their local controller is.
Finally, static configuration is used for a network that does not have a DHCP server. You can statically configure the information necessary to join a controller via the console port and the AP's CLI. For information on how to statically configure controller information using the AP CLI, refer to Manually Configuring Controller Information Using the Access Point CLI.
For a detailed explanation on the different discovery algorithms that LAPs use to find controllers, refer to LAP Registration with WLC.
For information on configuring DHCP option 43 on a DHCP server, refer to DHCP OPTION 43 for Lightweight Cisco Aironet Access Points Configuration Example.
Send a discovery request to every controller on the list and wait for the controller's discovery reply which contains the system name, AP-manager IP addresses, the number of APs already attached to each AP-manager interface, and overall excess capacity for the controller.
Look at the controller list and send a join request to a controller in this order (only if the AP received a discovery reply from it):
Primary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Secondary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Tertiary Controller system name (previously configured on LAP)
Master controller (if the LAP has not been previously configured with any Primary, Secondary, or Tertiary controller names. Used to always know which controller brand new LAPs join)

Mac OS 10.5.6 network discovery problems
Hello All!!
I have got a small network in my home. There is Two apple computers (one iMac wired to network another MacBook wireless), one Vista computer (wired) and two Vista laptops (wireless)
All the Windows based computers have no problems with seeing all the computers connected to network. But the apple computers got it different way.
Sometimes i am able to see all the computers connected (even the windows based ones:)
But most of the time i can see only the other mac (MacBook)
Of course manual connection trough "Go.. Connect to Server" is working fine with all the computers.
My question is: "Why my iMac and the other MacBook are have problems with seeing all the computers all the times? Why its only sometimes i can see them all in Finder?"
Thank you
JacobWe have the same problem. The user rights under Leopard are not interpreted correctly while the Tiger clients show the correct entries. I´ve posted another topic to that thing...

I dont want to get any logs from 127.0.0.1. Is it possible to filter out logs from server ?
Thanks and best regars.I don't think you can easily stop LMS from logging its own starting and stopping of processes.
Why does this bother you? It doesn't appear in you reports
