Lot Management or Batch Management

Hi Experts ,
Can any one let me know whats the exact difference between a Batch and a Lot.
Your comments will be appreciated

Albert

Lot and batch is the same. SAP does not know the word lot managment.
In SAP you can just have a lot batches )

  • How to set the 'Lot' field in Batch Pending (Product) Lots as 'Optional'

We are now Upgrading FROM 11.5.10.2 To r12.1.3.
The 'Lot' field under Batch material Details -> Pending Product Lots is mandatory, Which is very bad for us.
Our Current (11i) business process for creating Product lots, is to 1st allocate the 'Lot', and later on allocate and complete the 'Sublots' within this lot.
The equivalent process in r12 should be: 1st allocate the 'Parent Lot', and later on allocate and complete the 'lots' within this Parent lot.
Question: Is there any way to set the 'Lot' field to be optional?
    Thanks,
    Eran.

    Hi
No this is not possible, since Parent lot is a subset of Lot in R12. Once you choose your item as LOT, then it is not possible to make as Optional.
Try to raise an SR for this, Oracle may provide some workaround for the same.

  • Skip lot across multiple batches for same material

    Hi,
I am looking for a way to control skip lots across multiple batches for the same material.
We need to do a quality check in production after a certain quantity produced (on a machine, for a material). My idea was to do skip lots (for GR)  until we reach a threshold (say 10.000 pcs) and then do an inspection for the next GR for that material.
Any ideas how to set that up?
    Thanks for any hint

    Hi mergler,
Ref to your query pls check this link Stock Posting for Skip Lots

  • Usage decision of Inprocess Inspection lot as per batch

    Dear,
i am doing result recording to inspection point with partial lot and with batch,
i have some charactristics which is to be transfer to the batches for that i have to do separate Usage decision with every batches
    Is it possible??
note i have used 120 inspection point.( with shift wise) and partial lot with batches..
    Regards
    Pravin

You can mkae a UD for the lot, but not by batch.
The characteristic data should be transferred to the batch after the valuation of each inspection point however.  So your results should already be copied over long before you make the UD.

  • Automatic creation of inspection lot for Expired Batches

    Hi All,
I am in one trouble and need some help in above scenario.
I am able to create inspection lot for batches about to expire, but how to create inspection lots for batches which were already expired or which next inspection date already missed?
Master data like '09' inspection type, inspection plan is already maintained.
Second question, is QA07 also affect on special stocks like vendor stock or project stock etc?
    Immediate response will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
To meet you above mentioned requirement you have to modify the program RQAAAS10 as per your logic both to create lot for Expired Material and to consider project stock or vendor stock as In standard SAP these stock are not considered.

  • QM In-Process Inspection for Batch Managed Material

    Hi,
I have a issue related to UD of In-Process inspection for batch managed material. The production process is discrete manufacting for a cold rolling mill. A production order can have mutiple coils as per the production amount. To track the individual coil , batch management has ben activated. We have both in-process as well as inspection after production here.
For inspection after production we are fine as we are doing partial confirmation after every coil and have separate inspection lot having different batch number.
But for in-process I can have only one inspection lot for the production order (created on release of the production order). I can do the result recording but while trying to do UD u2013 it is asking for a batch number as the material is batch managed. W/o entering the batch number system is not allowing me to do the UD.
Is there any solution/work around of this problem.
    -Regards
    ashim

    Hi Ashim,
you raised a very good question? i am helpless here to execute same scenario,
but i disussed with my QM guy here, he said, once the material is batch managed then it has to ahve batch in UD.
so i discussed ur case, which is very much valid for heavy ind like cement and all,
so what i suggest, u create a dummy batch in the UD for in process (no inventory posting)
and at confimation give ur usual batch (if system propose the dummy batch which u give in the UD for inprocess, try to change there--- i hope it should allow)
i would really like to here answer from u for this.
try to do as suggested, and let me know the results.

  • Batch Management V/s Serial numbers

    Hi ,
Could anyone pls differentiate betn Batch and serials. I could understand from help ....
Batch : If you want to assign batch number to received Material Lot. It's like a LOT number management where you can assign a unique number to each lot received.
Later you can track the lot using this batch number
Serial : Unique number to each unit which mean each unit of the received lot will have unique ID.Like If I receive 10 pcs of material then 10 serial numbers will get generated (if automatic assignment is configured) and assigned to each unit of the material.
But I am getting confused when I am tyring to understand configuration of Serial numbers. Here are few queries i have
    1) why serial number mangement available under "Plant Maintenance and CUSTOMER SERVICES" menu.
    2) Is it only related with Equipments , NOT applicable for RAW MATERIAL / Assembly/ FG Material.
    Thx for reply in advance.
    REGARDS
    SANDEEP

    Hi Sandeep,
For the business scenario which you have quoted, let us assume two different cycles
    1. Vendor selling RM ( PT ) for the TV manufacturing Plant.
In this case, We can define an equipment master provided your vendor needs the database for his tracking purpose. It means that whenever a new PT is manufactured in your vendor premises, immediately a equipment master  and a unique serial number will  be assigned to the product ( Note the RM material code will be different ) and equipement master and the serial number are material specific.
When the Manufacturing plant puts a PO and tries to do the GR, before doing GR, the system will ask to create a equipment master ( a mirror image of what is avaible) in your vendor end.
    2. Dealer Purchasing TV and the Manufacturing plant.
In the second case the equipment master and the serial number will be maintained for the entire TV ( Different Material Number )
In both the cases, the equipment category should be marked as Customer and the equipment req should be checked.

  • Inspection lot without batch no.

    Hi
For 03 inspection type, inspection lot is creating without batch number, while doing UD it is asking for batch number.
Client will give the batch number only at GR. Im unable to clear the lot.
Please advise, how to create a inspection lot without batch number or clear the lot without batch number.
Note: I used freely defined inspection points for 03 lot.
    Thanks&

    Janardhanan

    Hi
You need to apply SAP Note 146945 - Making usage decision for production lots w/o batch.
Also with the above note, you need to mentain the below setting,
    In recipe
Recipe header> Quality Management> Partial lot assign: Partial lot not supported
Select Operation with QM active, go to details> Insp. point completion: Valuation
    Thanks

  • Process order batch number not reflecting in corresponding inspection lot

    Hi QM gurus,
I am working on inprocess inspection for production. I am creating process order during that time batch no is generated automatically by the system. Now process order is released during this time Inspection lot generated with inspection type 03. Now the problem is in the inspection lot, process order batch number is not reflecting. I have checked all the master data seetings. All seems to be fine. what could be the problem. any settings missed can anybody help me out.
    Thanks
    Vinameath

    Hi Vinameath,
Go to the Master Recipe (C202) of this Process order/Material. Go to Recipe Header tab and click on the Quality Management Header button.
Now,go to the Partial Lot Assign field and maintain the value " 0 Partial Lots not supported " and save.
Then create a new process order and in all probabilities, the batch should appear on the in-process inspection lot.
    Hope this helps you!

  • Questions on few quality management topics

    Hi Sapiens,
I am SD consultant and new to QM, I have been task to record mulitple assay results in system. So, I am implementing the QM module here. I have got few questions, so kindly take sometime and send your valuable answers.
    1) Can we have many inspection lots for 1 batch of Material.
In the present scenario, the client is selling only one material which will have only 1 batch. So, If the client want to do inspections at different times or more than ones, how can I record all those results.
Because, the client wanted to see the average results of the inspected material.
    2) If Inspection Type = 10, Can I execute QE71 Tcode, I was going through SAP std document, I found that initially Inspection type = 8, is used, with that Insp ty, the QE51N and QVM3 Tcodes were executed. But during QE71, Insp ty = 2 has been used. So, I wanted to get the confirmation whether I can execute QE71, using Insp type = 10.
3)After the Usage decision is made, Can I see the quality results in all the inspection lot(s) in any Tcode.I found that after Usage decision been made, the inspection lot is disappearing from QVM3 tcode.
Your inputs on the above questions will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kumar

    Hi Hari,
Thanks for your interest in resolving this issue.
Let me know tell you the actual requirement before going to the issue.
The requirement is simple, the client wanted the Multiple Quality assay results for material after delivery of goods.
They only wanted to record various assay results (like Customer, Supplier, Discharge port etc).
This includes the multiple quality recordings during dispatching the material to customer for ex: at discharge port, they do the quality recordings of the same material with same inspection lot but mulitple recordings (I understand this will achieve through Inspection points)
The reason for mulitple recordings is, they wanted to have the track of the previous results, currently they are recording these results in Material Batch (through configurable material), but in that they cann't maintain all the quality results.
This is for after sales Delivery is created.
So, I have used Inspection type - 10, and created Sample procedures for SPC characteristics and normal.
Earlier when I configured I use to go upto results recording but when I am try to configure Inspection points, I am not even able to do the QE51N transaction also. Now, I want to record resuls in QE51N for multiple time for same inspection lot, Do the Usage decision and QE71 for Surveyor, Supplier and Customer results. Also, when the user want to see the batch update in BMBC, they should able to view the data.
If you can tell me, what all points I have to configure like check list with Tcodes, then It will be very great help.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Batch missing in inspection lot

    Hi All,
    1. Porcess order created for final product A
    2. Confirmation is done so GR posted with 101 for A and batch 01
Issue:  But in inspeciton lot there is no batch for this material . in QA03 the batch is not there.
inspection type is 03 and usage decision is not yet done
I would like to know what could be the reason that batch is not there

If you are talking about the 03 inspection lot a batch number is not required.  The batch number is only in the 03 lot when the batch number is preassigned in the process order.  If it is not preassinged, you can receipt multiple batches against the same process order, (hence the same 03 lot).  In many scenarios, a business will receipt many batches against the same process order.

  • Creat 'recurring inspection' in Deadline monitoring of Batches

    Hi guys,
    Conditions:
    (1) Today is '11.24.2011''.
    (2) MSC3N
    - 'Shelf Life Exp. Date' is '11.30.2011' and 'Next Inspection' is '12.10.2011'.
    (3) QA07
    - 'Initial run in days' is '30' and Check radiobutton at 'To insp.stock at lot creation' in the 'Additional goods movement at time of recurring inspection' box.
'Initial run in days' is '00' and Check 'Block batch' in the 'Batch status change when expiration date is reached' box.
i think, in order for the 'Shelf Life Exp. Date' to arrive first, no recurring inspection lot created??
But, when i am running QA07, the system automatically creates 'recurring inspection'.
The inspection lot not to make automatically, it will be able to setting??

    Dear,
The function for recurring inspections allows you to monitor the quality of batches contained in the warehouse stock.
For this purpose, an inspection date is calculated (in addition to the expiration date) when a batch is received in a goods receipt shipment
To be able to determine the inspection date, you must enter an inspection interval when you maintain the QM data in the material master record. The inspection interval defines the time period that must expire before the next recurring inspection must be carried out.
A program that is run periodically (batch job) monitors the batch materials in the warehouse and causes one of the following activities to be carried out when the inspection date is reached or exceeded:
    Inspection lot creation
Inspection lot creation and batch posting to inspection stock
Inspection lot creation and changing status of batch to "not released"
If the expiration date is reached or exceeded for a batch, the batch is blocked. This changes the batch status to "not released" or causes the batch quantity to be posted to blocked stock, if the batch status management function is not active. In this case, an inspection lot is not created.
When you make a usage decision to accept an inspection lot, the batch quantity is posted to unrestricted-use stock or the batch status is changed to "released," depending on the option you selected.
The system calculates the next inspection date for the batch and stores it in the batch record.

  • Partial lot in inspection lot

    Dear all,
I am a PP consultant this requirement is not geeting answered in PP forum so I posted it to this forum. please help.
    our requirement is as follows,
    1) Partial lot should be created from an inspection lot.
    2) A new batch should be created for each partial lot
    3) we should be able to result recording and UD for each partial lot.
At the time of GR i dont know what will be the quality of the batch. Only after inspection i come to the quality of the batch. It may be
    100% ok,
    70% ok and 30% rejected
    70% ok, 20% rework and 10% rejected.
I want separate batch should be created for each result.
I have created the material with batch management and can transfer results to batch characteristics.
Now what i will have to do to map the above scenario.
    Thanks

    Hi S J,
    See your prime concern is,,,,
Say your order quantity is 5000.
At the first GR against this Order you are confirming 1500 qnty
At the second GR against this Order you are confirming another 1500 qnty
At the first GR against this Order you are confirming the rest qnty
And you are in need to issue a separate Batch number to each Confirmation / GR against the Order?
Correct me if I am wrong any where!!!!
If this is the case, then
As i have suggested you Do the settings in Inspection type at material master QM view.
Then keep any of the Inspection point at the recipe..
Now as you are using recipe means there is a Process Industry and Process Order are associated!
So run trx CORY and set the value "No automatic batch creation in process order." for the field Auto Batch Creation
By doing this system will not create any Batch at the time of Process Order release. But the material is ticked for Batch-management hence it will create a batch at the time of GR / Confirmation against the Order.
    Now
At the first GR against this Order you are confirming 1500 qnty it will create inspection lot ABC and Batch 123
At the second GR against this Order you are confirming another 1500 qnty it will create inspection lot BCD and Batch 234
At the first GR against this Order you are confirming the rest qnty it will create inspection lot CDE and Batch 345
I hope it will solve your problem.

  • Integration with EWM-Inspection lot not getting created

    Hi,
Inspection lot not getting created after GR is done.
The scenario is Storage location is connected to external warehouse management,so after the GR is done in the legacy system via interface it is updated in ECC.so while checking the material document inpection lot is not created.
Can anyone please tell me the necesaary check points and integeration steps  between WM and QM in this case .
    Thanks in advance.......

    Hi,
Since you didn't say much, I assume you are creating stock into ECC via LSMW using 561 movement. Now to get inspection lot for these batches/ docs, you need to activate inspection type 05.
Go to material master QM view, assign and activate inspection type 05.
Additionally, create a respective inspection plan/ task list for the material(s) to carry out RR and get the consistent inspection lots.
