Lowering decibels of a song, in the middle of the song

Ok. I've placed a 2 minute song under approx. a dozen video clips. I've muted the majority of the video clips, but there are specifically three (3) that I want to hear while the music is playing underneath (there is a subject speaking in these shots). However, I don't want the song to drown out what the subject is saying - so - how do I go about lowering the volume of the song for the duration of JUST the video clips where a subject is talking?
So, in other words, I want to start with the song at full volume, then fade lower while a subject is talking, and then fade back up to full volume.
I'm pretty sure I could get creative and figure it out, but there has to be a real easy way to do this that I'm overlooking.

P.S. - as an extra credit question: I've got a video clip where you can hear the subject talking just fine, but a person off-camera, and off to the left, starts blaring about something, and this kind of takes away from what the subject is saying. Any recommended filters or effects that may be able to tone down the off-camera interruption?

You can add volume keyframes just at the right spots.
1) In timeline place the playhead just at the point where you want to "duck" the audio (that's the term used by audio editors to describe that effect).
2) Double-click the music audio file. It will open in viewer, with the playhead parked at the right spot.
3) Hit the key "P" to select the pen tool. The trick is to put 4 keyframes:
the 1st: just 5 to 10 frames before the playhead (for a kind of fade-out for music).
the 2nd: at the playhead (the speech is starting).
the 3rd: at the point where the duck must end (the speech ending).
the 4th: 5 to 10 frame after the 3rd one (for the music fade-in).
4) Now, hit the "A" key to select the arrow tool.
5) Position the arrow tool between the 2nd and 3rd keyframe in viewer. It should transform to 2 small horizontal lines with arrows pointing up and down.
6) Click with this tool and drag down to lower the volume of the music bed. (as a rule of thumb, -12dB is a good level to set background music under voice over).
Play from timeline to monitor the effect and drag keyframes/level to finetune the duck.

Yes. Select the frames that you want to use the voices so that the yellow border is around them. The right-click/split clip. On the split clip you can open the inspector to the audio tab and turn on the ducking feature, which will diminish all other audio tracks by the percentage you specify.

Podcast--lowering sound of one part of the recording

I just taped an interview in garageband. He was on the phone while i was at my mac. I, of course, am too loud. He is ok. How can i lower just my section? I can seem to edit the sound. I can cut it, but not edit it. I gotta be doing something wrong. I watched the podcast tutorial, but it doesn't go over that.

You can apply a volume curve, as HangTime suggests, to either lower your voice or raise his. Or, alternately, you can make cuts (Splits) and move your parts to a new Track and just set the volume on that. It depends on which you find easier.

Share my experiences with the B520 Model

I have purchased the Lenovo All-In-One desktop computer model B520 on Nov 15th. It arrived in my office on Nov 21st. It’s been a month now after using it, I would like to share my thoughts about it.
Pros:
Saves space, this is the biggest advantage of AIO desktop; this is the primary reason that why I have switched. Computers with a case and a separated monitor is a big issue for me. I never liked these cables for mouse, keyboard, speakers, …etc. it causes a huge mess under the desk. Now, with the All-in-one style, everything is simplified. The only cable I need for this B520 Lenovo desktop is for the power source. It’s designed with different wireless technologies. Mouse and Keyboard are connected through Bluetooth; The system has build-in with the latest 802.11b.g.n WiFi wireless technology. It also has the enhanced integrated 5.0 speakers system that supports SRS Premium Sound Audio.
High Performance, out of all the All-In-One desktop models out there in the market, this machine has the highest hardware specifications. Quad Core Intel 2nd Generation CPU i72600 with Hyper Thread Technology. This is a really powerful CPU, it gives its best performance when it comes with Video Rendering and image processing. Word processing and gaming is a piece of cake for the it to handle. I do a lot of video editing so I will only chose this model of CPU.
The B520 model also comes wit a Nvidia Geforce GT555M. This is a middle class close to a high end video card. It handles most of the 3D games in an acceptable setting, but will not be able to run games like BF3 or Crysis kind of games in high settings. This machine is not for serious gamers, because All-in-one desktops has the performance bottleneck with the video card. Computer manufacturing have to keep down the power it consumes to prevent the machine from over heating. High end video cards all have a very high demand for powers, at same time produces huge amount of heat. This is why there are a lot of people start to customize their own computer cases with water cooling system. It is more sophisticated and comes with a lot of trouble. If you want to have something easy, well organized, and just simply works, go for All-In-One. You will love it.
The Lenovo B520 comes with a Touch Screen, which I don’t usually use that often. If there are kids in the family, it will be a fun toy for them to play with. What I like better, is the Bluetooth mouse. The unique part about this mouse is that it has a build in gravitational sensor, means, this mouse is functional in the middle of nowhere, even hanging in the air. You can imagine using it like a Wii game controller.Just move the mouse and wave it in the air and you will see the cursor on the screen goes where ever you are pointing. How accurate is it? very accurate!! it’s is more sensitive and feels better than using a Wii controller. Lenovo has pre-install some games that can be played interactively with the mouse. The screen is 23″, so it would be a fun experience. I don’t have any kids in the house, so I uninstalled them all to save some disk spaces and speed up the system a little bit.
The keyboard and mouse are both connected by Bluetooth; I also noticed that every time when I start the computer, it takes about 2-3 seconds for them to become effective. I assume Lenovo has designed it with a “sleep feature” for this two devices; it helps to save battery and extend the replacement cycle.
The computer also comes with a 3D glasses. The touch screen has a very high refreshing rate(120Mhz) which is better for the eyes. The screen works interactively with the 3D glasses. When the computer is playing a movie in 3D format, when I wear the 3D glasses and facing the screen, it automatically turns on and I am in 3D mode!!! It supports a lot of 3D games too!! The feeling in a racing car 3D game is UNBELIEVABLY REAL!! I love it so much! It’s a TOTALLY NEW LEVEL of gaming experience!
Also, Lenovo has designed 4 slots for memory modules. they have installed 8GB onto two slots and there are another 2 slots available to use. This is very useful for people like me demands for more rams. It also provides four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 port; more than any other All-in-one desktops on the market. The 5 in-one card reader is convenient for uploading photos from cameras. two HDMI ports, I can also connect my PS3 or Xbox360 to it if I want to use it’s 3D touch screen. It has a building TV tuner, so watching TV on it is another feature.
Cons:
Even the computer is very well designed, as a high end user I found there are still a couple places that Lenovo can improve.
1. Lenovo has researched and developed this RapidDrive technology; I see this is an option on the Spec-sheet for the product, but I never had the chance to upgrade it. I demand for a high disk performance; I was a little disappointed when I found out that I wasn’t able to install another SSD high performance disk into the computer. I had to take out the 2TB standard disk drive and replace it with the SSD. It would be really nice if I can have the high performance SSD installed as the system drive, and the HD installed as the storage drive. The RapidDrive technology may become failing out now, because it was from those years that SSD weren’t popularly used. Compare to the present, SSD is getting more and more popular, the SSD is improving it’s performance and lowering it’s cost. In the next one or two years, the RapidDrive technology will likely become a history.
2. I have opened the B520 model to see the inside modules. I see there are still plenty of spaces that Lenovo engineer can use to expand the upgrade capacities. I can use some simple tools to modify the inside body a little bit to fit another hard drive, but it stopped me from doing it because there is not another power cord connector. Those extra mSata connectors are sitting there and watching me could do anything about it; = (
3. Lenovo technical support did not have a most updated tech sheet for their system. Again, I am a tech kind of guy. I was looking for a manual to better understanding the B520 motherboard.(so I can modify it and add some extra hardware to it) I have called their technical support, talked to people, went through their online data base, they weren’t able to provide me this manual. The lastest information they have is for the previous model. The B520 Model I have a the newest I believe. Lenovo should keep up with their technical support, and be prepare for experienced users.
Conclusion:
I am satisfied with it. I feel I have made a great purchase. Would be nice it I can install an additional SSD in there. Would nice if they can put a high end video card in there. Good for home offices, and home entertainments. Not recommended for hardcore gamer.

Other thoughts:
When I was doing my research on All-In-One, here are the reasons that why I have chosen Lenovo:
1.Sony has a well designed for their product, but the price is high. Most importantly, the video card they have is Nvidia Geforce 540M GT, and it only supports 8GB of ram, not 16 GB.
2. Toshiba has terrible customer services for technical support. I had a very bad experience with them. I believe they have out sourced it to India base companies. When the computer is out of warranty after 1 year, they charge a $35(or $30)dollars troubleshooting fee. I think this is ridiculous to charge the consumer to talk over the phone to find what is the problem with their product.
3. Dell has better customer service than Toshiba; They do not charge for talking and providing the technical support after warranty, but when it comes with parts replacement, that is something we have to pay which is understandable. However, one thing I really don’t like Dell computers is that they install a LOT of junks onto your machine when you buy it. It’s fully loaded with all these third party softwares who pays Dell for more users. It not only slows down the system, but also generate a lot of garbage uses a lot of disk space. I will reconsider to buy Dell if they give me a clean & Junk-free windows.
4. iMac is also a good choice because it’s well designed too. but I did not chose it because it has very limited expansion ports and they charge insanely more for hard-wares upgrade. They have extreme control over their product from customer modification. They don’t even allow the consumer to replace the hard drive themselves.
5. HP also has wonderful All-In-Ones, but their hardware specs seems weak. Never dealt with HP customer service before, so I will not say anything about their customer services. Hopefully it’s better than Toshiba. = )

With the mSata power splitter, there is a problem.
The data portion and the power portion shares the same connector I belive. I have thought of it but don't know how to make it possible. any suggestions?

but I still need to convert the power connector because it's 4 pin molex;. I guess it should work if I use another 6" Molex to SATA Power Cable Adapter.
Also, I couldn't find which is the SATA 3.0 and Which is the SATA 6.0 connector. SSD will have a huge difference in performace with a SATA 6.0 connector. This is confusing because on the B520 Spec sheet it stated both. I was looking for it's manual to identify, but no one can provides it. Last time when I called, they forwarded my call to Intel. LOL! I was like, **bleep**? It's a board you used and you dont have a manual for it?

Need menu volume lowered relative to movie

I have a DVD project in which the feature itself has relatively low volume. In iMovie I boosted the level the max (150%). How can I raise it further? Do I have to extract it and then import it into an audio engineering program? If so, should I use QuickTime Pro or Peak? I also have Final Cut Pro 3
To lower the volume of the mp3s I use for menus, I'm wondering if I go back to iTunes and individually lower the volume in the get info options pane, will that lowering come through when I import the song into a menu of my project?
Do any other iTunes processes, like Sound Check, or the Sound Enhancer? If I adjust the starting and stopping point in a track using the get info > options panel fields will that effect how the song comes into my iDVD menu?

To lower the volume of the mp3s I use for menus
You have to open these in a sound editing porgam. iMovie will do in a pinch, but you have to add some video (A Ken Burns clip will do). Lower the volume of the MP3, and then Share>Quicktime>Expert Settings>Sound to AIFF. Use the new AIFF with lower volume in your menu.

Is there a way to detect redraw regions or at the very least when a display object is redrawn?

I have a layered window system that produces Windows 7 Aero Glass effect in Flash.
It consists of nested display objects, with overlays as so.

Windows can be raised and lowered by changing their order in the hierarchy and adding new levels.
Each glass window has a designated background (containing all lower windows) . It draws to an off-screen Bitmap the region of the background that is under the window, and applies a blur filter, tint, and parallax effects to it, and then displays that as it's own background as RenderedEffectBackground.
The problem is that "RenderedEffectBackground" is a static rendering of the window background, so in order to update it in real time, I need to detect when it's background display object (e.g. BackgroudnForGlassWindowTop) or any nested display objects are rendered.
I could simply update all RenderedEffectBackgrounds from the bottom up each frame, but that would be inefficient.   Ideally, I could detect when a particular background changes (e.g. when a textfield cursor is flashing, or a MovieClip changes frames), and then only render from that object up. The rendering of course always has to take place from back to front, starting with the lowest window that has changed. If I could detect the redraw regions of the Flash Player (e.g. when a textfield cursor is flashing, or a MovieClip is playing), I could optimize this system even further by checking for layer overlaps and only rendering layers whose windows intersect the redraw regions, but obtaining that level of information would probably not be possible or logical since this this essentially needs to happen during some kind of pre render phase, which Flash may not support. Such a pre-render phase would itself be causing new redraw regions, but as long as it is processed from the bottom up, it could work.
Is there any AS3 function of the flash player that allows my code to obtain information about the display list as far as which display objects are due to be rendered, and then intercept some kind of "onRenderComplete" event for them right before rendering takes place so that I can render the higher display objects.
I originally tried to implement this as a filter, but pixel bender shaders in AS3 don't seem to allow sampling of an underlying object that would allow for blurring (i.e. the shader can access only the current point being rendered, coordinates passed to the sampling methods are ignored (this is documented behavior).
Any ideas?

The feature that shows the link you are mousing over hasn't been removed in 29. Maybe the add-on you are using to restore the add-on bar is covering it. Slow speeds now, has my IP profile been lowered?

My broadband has been fine for the past 2 years with a download speed of average 1.3MBs (1300kbp/s)
There has been absolutely no changes to the environment in the house, no extensions.
My Router is connected to the ADSL filter, connected to the master socket face plate.
On June 2nd around 22:00 BST I noticed very high latency and disconnections on my Broadband.
I did the usually by resetting the router, waiting a couple of minutes are restart. However that didn't fix the issue.
I picked up the house phone and noticed there was a LOT of noise on the dialtone, I tried the 17070 quiet liine test and same again, a lot of noise.
So I called up the BT Broadband helpdesk and spoke to a lady in India, had a long conversation with her running a few line tests and concluding there was no issue on the BT circuit side.
So I decided to leave it and hope for the best that it would fix itself, the next morning latency is fine back to normal (pinging 4.2.2.2 <40ms) and BB is stable with no disconnects.
However my BB speeds appeared to have dropped to about 700kbp/s tops, has BT lowered my IP profile to stabalise the line??
Can someone advise? Here are my stats:

I can't change the volume of the sound over time within a clip.

I want to adjust the level of the sound within a clip. I take my pen tool and just add 2 keyframes a few seconds apart from eachother. I adjust the height of the last keyframe, but when I playback NOTHING happends. This is so annoying because it has always worked. I use Premiere Pro 5.5.

I'm having the same problem. The volume controls and volume keyframes suddenly stop working. I've been having it occur a lot, both on my 2011 iMac running Mavericks and my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina running Mountain Lion, two entirely different systems. It seems to start happening at random while editing projects, and I can't figure out how to make it stop.
I attached a screenshot to show the audio meters displaying loud sound output, even though sole unmuted track has keyframes all the way down at "negative infinity" decibels.
I have done the following things to troubleshoot:
-restarted computer, restarted premiere
-re-rendered the sequence
-tried removing and reapplying volume keyframes
-double check that the track volume is untouched, at 0db
-double check that the master volume is untouched, at 0db
-checked that the volume control bypass is not on
-tried muting and unmuting the track
-tried on a different operating system
However, changing the audio gain (by ctrl-clicking on the audio track, and changing the entire gain of the clip), does still work.

1- No puedo hacer llamadas desde la pantalla del BBM. Si alguien ha enviado mensaje y tengo un Chat, deberia poderse llamar desde alli. Tampoco existe en la pantalla de SMS ni de Mail. Al poder el dedo en pantalla para que despliegie la barra de menu a la derecha, NO ESTA LA OPCION "LLAMAR". ES NECESARIO Y UTIL QUE SE PONGA!!
Tampoco se despliega "LLAMAR" al tocar ese contacto y usar el menu de abajo a la derecha (el de los 3 puntitos en vertical). ES NECESARIO Y UTIL QUE SE PONGA!!
2- No se entiende bien la forma de "vincular" un contacto a un contacto de BBM. Deberia clarificarse la funcion.
3-Cuando marco un numero de telefono, no aparece el numero telefonico al que llamo en la pantalla sino solo el nombre del contacto. Es muy util saber a que numero de todos los de su tarjeta de contacto, le estoy llamando.
4-En el historial de llamadas, deberian aparecer las llamadas entrantes y salientes, perdidas o no, en una sola oportunidad. Si alguien me ha llamado 4 veces y lo he llamado 3, por ejemplo, no deberia aparecer 4 veces en pantalla sino solo 1. Al tocar dicho contacto es cuando deberia desplegarse las 4 llamadas y las 3 realizadas. Ese problema existe tanto en la pestaña de llamadas Perdidas, como en la pestaña Todas.
5-la BATERIA !. la BATERIA!!! NO DURA NADA, SIMPLEMENTE ASI! NADA.! y SE CALIENTA!!
6- Definitivamente debe mejorarse la sincronizacion de contactos de un dispositivo del software 7 al 10. La mayoria de mis contactos no se transfirieron, ni al hacerlo a traves de Blackberry Link. Y trate de restaurar una copia de los contactos desde Blackberry Protect de mi antiguo dispositivo al Z10, y nada. Ahora me llaman y no se quien es. DEBE BUSCARSE LA FORMA DE ARREGLARLO.
7- la forma de silenciar rapidamente el telefono, no existe. La persiana negra(con la pequeña cama y la luna) que se baja para poner en stnad by el telefono y no entren llamadas o notificaciones, solo se despliega desde la pantalla inicial (pero teneindo cuidado de no abrirla completa, pues sino no baja la persiana sino el menu de opciones de configuracion, bloqueo de rotacion y otros) ESTO DEBE MEJORARSE como en el 9360 que con apretar la tecla Q, se cambiaba al instante a "vibrar". ESO ES SUPER UTIL Y DEBE BUSCARSE LA FORMA DE ARREGLARLO.

I am a Blackberry fan and support the brand and its products. I have a Z10 Blackberry since 4 days and BLACKBERRY should IMPROVE / SOLVE the following: (HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF TECHNICAL CHANGE IN PROGRAM, READ THIS)
1 - I can not make calls from the BBM screen. If someone has sent message and I have a chat, you should be able to call from there. Nor is there on the screen for SMS or Mail To power your finger on screen to despliegie the menu bar on the right, NOT THE OPTION "CALL". YOU SHOULD INCLUDE IT AND IS USEFUL!
Nor displays "CALL" by touching the contact and use the menu below to the right (the 3 vertical dots). YOU SHOULD INCLUDE IT !
2 - not well understood how to "link" a contact to a BBM contact. Function should be clarified.
3-When setting a phone number, do not see the phone number that I call on the screen but only the contact name. It is very useful to know what number of all of your contact card, I'm calling.
4-In the call history, should show incoming and outgoing, missed or not, on a single occasion. If someone has called me 4 times and I've called 3, for example, IT DOES NOT HAVE to appears 4 times on screen but only 1. Touching the contact is when should deploy the 4 calls and 3 performed. This problem exists in the Missed Calls tab, including the All tab.
5-the BATTERY!. the BATTERY! NOTHING LASTS NO, JUST SO! NOTHING.! and HEATED!!
6 - You should definitely improve contact sync software device 7 to 10. Most of my contacts are not transferred, nor to do it through Blackberry Link. And try to restore a backup of contacts from Blackberry Protect from my old device to the Z10, and nothing. Now if someone call me and do not know who is. FIND A WAY TO FIX IT!!.
7 - a faster way to silence the phone, does not exist. The black shade (with the small bed and the moon) which lowers to put in stand by the phone and incoming calls and notifications, only unfolds from the initial screen (but careful not to open it complete, since it does not lower the blind but the menu with configuration options, rotation lock, etc.) THIS MUST BE IMPROVED as in 9360 with Q key press is instantly changed to "vibrate". SUPER USEFUL AND YOU SHOULD FIND A WAY TO FIX IT .

Would like to add the following:
1. Why not make it so that when you open your landing screen and you show live, text msg, live emails, etc that you can touch the icon from that screen and go directly to text msgs, emails, etc.
2. Since the Hub is the core of this system why not make so that you can always go back to the hub with one touch no matter where you are.
3. Lastly for us reading challanged older folks please when trying to read small emails that you are able to enlarge and automatically reformat to fit the screen as earlier version of BB did.
Overall enjoying the phone , being my first full touch screen , but seem there are some very simple things that could be changed to make the experiance more user friendly.

Improve My Workflow for Video Interview: Lowering Spikes

I do video interview constantly and I record Audio Separate from Video. But I'm still perfecting the Audition Workflow.
Attached is a quick 1minute video that shows my whole audio workflow (sped up exponentially).
Step 1: Import Audio into Audition
Step 2: Comb through the audio and lower all spikes (for instance, beginning of a sentance where the voice comes out louder than the rest of the audio) so all audio levels are consistent
Step 3: After Step 2, use Effect/Amplitude and Compression/Normalize (Process) to -2.0 dB
Step 4: Capture Noise Print (background noise)
Step 5: Noise Reduction
I feel like there's a much faster way to do Step 2 that I'm missing. A way to auto-detect spikes that go above x level and lowers them to x level?
The end result of my process is good it just takes a LONG time.
Any recommendations?

The reason that I prefer the first method is simply because I think I can get more control over the individual process steps, and I'm inclined towards that rather than a 'hit it all in one go' approach, but really that's just a personal thing - and the way I've always done it. The SVL is a relative latecomer, after all!

In view of the truly awful things that have happened to this forum, I only have one suggestion to make if you really want to do this - but I should emphasise that there's absolutely no compulsion or need to - and that is to go over to the AudioMasters forum (this is the forum that grew directly out of Syntrillium's original forum for Cool Edit, where all the archives, etc are kept) and hit the Donate button. We've kept that forum alive for a long time now, and you'll get just as good advice there as you will here - certainly in terms of general techniques, etc. Even Audition's developers pop in occasionally. It's important to keep it going, as at this rate it's going to be the only place where you'll get straightforward answers to questions about Audition, without losing yourself in a complete mire of social forum junk here for which there appears to be no good reason at all. Sorry about the rant, but it's got to quite a few people this week...

Safest way to undo the wireless laptop

I am using the laptop on wireless with the WRT54G and desktop wired. Good. Want to test the laptop as wired.
Why? Noticed the desktop latency of around 300 ms and it's a slow desktop. The laptop is almost 20 times as fast, relatively, and its latency is 600 ms. So wondered if that's a function of the wireless versus wired.
But if I connect a wire to the laptop, I must disconnect its wireless setup? How to do that and not screw things up? So much hassle to set it up that I don't want to have to go through all my notes and configurations.
Any ideas? The double latency of a much faster computer, must be due to the wireless over a wired connection?

Messed that up. I meant a much faster computer, the laptop, with a Core Due cpu and 3 GB of RAM, should not have twice the latency of a sloooow desktop. And this double latency is a function of the wireless overhead over the wired? I was using numion.com for the testing. Nice website. I get around 300,000 bits per second in the USA surfing. But almost double that with the laptop, 500,000 bits per second yet double the latency. Want to see how fast the laptop really is if it has the lowered latency when wired directly to the router. My network is only 768,000 bit per second download. I downgraded the network when I saw that surfing speed is rather limited during the day. Not pure downloads but surfing. But maybe I need to analyze all that more. Too much time on my hands. More fun to do this than the real work.

I have AirPort Express 802.11n and ATT DSL Pro. The speed at the ATT modem is 4 Mbps however the speed at my computer, ipad, and ipod touch is only 1.7 Mbps. The ATT tech came out and said the slowdown is being caused by the AirPort router. Help!

I just discovered this, and it seems to have solved issues with my Time Capsule.
Open AirPort Utility; select your AirPort Express and choose manual setup.
Click >Wireless
Change Radio Mode to 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g
Click >Wireless Network Options
Change Transmit Power to 50%
Check >Use interference robustness < This step is purely optional. It's worth a shot.
I've been noticing issues with performance of my Time Capsule for a while.
It really started with lack of good range, followed by lousy performance with my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I was lucky to get 10% of what my speed really is (1.5 Mbps vs. 15.9 Mbps). My iMac was the only thing that seemed unaffected.
I attempted to setup a Sony Media Player (stay away from them- junk!) then a Roku XD in my bedroom only 20' down the hall from the Time Capsule (direct line of sight). Signal kept dropping and performance was lousy for both. I want another new Apple TV for the bedroom, but that TV doesn't have an HDMI port. I ended up running an ethernet cable down the hall... until this morning.
After some digging, I found a forum talking about WiFi performance for iPhones and stumbled upon something kinda basically unrelated, but gave me the idea to dig into AirPort Utility a bit deeper. Changing power to 50% didn't sound logical, but lowering output power was mentioned in the forum. AirPort Utility goes from 100% to 50% then lower. Nothing between 50% and 100%. I'll know more about range later today, but I have a feeling it may be mysteriously improved as well.

How do you reduce the recording leve

I am trying to record from a source that cannot have its output levels lowered, so I need to lower the incoming levels of the player. If anyone knows how to do this that would be great.

Not really sure how you're doing this and Creative has several players with the word Plus in the model name, but here are the two possible scenarios.
1. If you're using microphones connected to a mixer and the line output from the mixer is going into the player, the gain of the microphones can be adjusted on the mixer at the mic inputs. You would not want to (and cannot) adjust the output level from the mixer if it is line-level. Your station engineer should be able to handle that for you while the recording is in progress.
2. If you're recording directly on the player using the built-in microphone, you can adjust the recording level on the player itself.
