Mac OSX gets no internet from wireless BEFW11S4v4

I'm a Verizon DSL customer, using a Westell 6100 as a modem.
I have 2 computers in my home: One a PC running Windows Xp the other a Mac running on OS X 4. The PC is where the modem and wireless router are connected, the Mac connects to the internet wireless through the wireless router.
At some point last week (I wasn't at home when it happened) the PC could not get online. The owner of the PC called Verizon and they told him that he should disconnect the wireless router to get online. He did, and directly connected the PC to the modem and then he got back online, however the Mac that connects to the net wirelessly is without an internet connection. The router does send out a signal but no internet.
I've tried to fix this problem on my own. I checked the IP address on the modem AND the wireless router and they're both the same. Now when I originally bought this router it had a problem; the guy who helped me fix it said that the router was acting like the modem (I'm guessing because they had the same IP address now), so he changed the way the ethernet cables plugged in and that solved the problem with the router acting like the modem. But now the wires are not the case and I am completely at a loss.
Can anyone help me?

First things being First, Connect the Modem directly to the Computer.
If Online through the DSL modem, Presumably when you are using a
Modem such as Westel 2200 or 6100 Series, the IP Address  will be
of the range : 192.168.1.x.
Under such a scenario, Connect the Modem  / Computer to the Router,
Press the Reset on the Router for 5- 10 Seconds ;
powercycle the Modem and the Router, Then need you have to log in
to the Router's Setup Page [ Open a browser, type http://192.168.1.1
in the Address bar of the browser ] It will prompt for Username
and Password : Leave the Username blank and type admin as the
Password ] and below Setup Tab, change it's Local IP Address to
192.168.3.1 or 192.168.5.1 .Then After powercycling the Modem and
the Router, You could connect the Computer to Port 1 or Port 2 , and
check the Online Connectivity. If it works, Make the Computer Wireless,
from the Router. Search for the Wireless Network, Connect to the
Network "Linksys". It should work.
Recurring Issues with the Router could be fixed by Firmware Updates
Revert Back in case of any Assistance . . .
Happy Routing !

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • QUESTION - I have just purchased a mac and get my contacts from my iphone 4 onto iCloud.  In settings groups all my contacts fall under hotmail. HELP

I have just purchased a mac and get my contacts from my iphone 4 onto iCloud.  In settings>groups>all my contacts fall under hotmail. HELPQuestion

Do you have iCloud configured on the iPhone and on the MacBook Air? If not, you'll want to do that for seamless transferring of contacts between the two devices. If you have an iCloud account already, set it up on the phone first. If you do not have an iCloud account I'd recommend signing up for one on the computer first as it's easier to navigate the setup screens. Once iCloud is setup on both machines the contacts will automatically sync (faster if the iPhone is on wireless).
Regarding email, you'll need to ensure the email on the iPhone is configured for IMAP/Exchange. You'll then want to configure that same account in Apple Mail (or whatever email program you intend to use on the MacBook Air).

  • Should I necessarily use an external hard "for mac" to get a backup from my macbook?

I want to get a backup from my macbook pro using the time machine. Should I necessarily use an external hard "for mac" to get a backup from my macbook? Because I have an external hard, but its not for mac. Is there any way I can use this one?

You can use the external drive you want with your Mac. However, the "for Mac" external drives come prepared to connect them and start using them, and probably you will have to do some additional steps with your external drive.
First, you will have to format the external drive with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", the only filesystem compatible with OS X. If you have got files on the external drive, you have to copy them to your Mac before erasing the drive. Then, follow these steps to format the external drive with "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" > http://pondini.org/TM/5.html
Then, to use Time Machine, open System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Disk, and choose your external drive, so your Mac will start making backups to your external drive

  • I get my internet from wifi and since hooking up the Time Capsule I can't get in internet

We get our internet from WI FI at our housing development and since hooking up my new time capsule yesterday and started the 2 day back up, I can't get online.  I am not a real techno so a simple solution would be greatly appreciated!  I hate to have to turn the capsule off most of the time as I like the fact that it does an auto back up.  I just got the IMac a month ago and am new to Apple.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Check whether you have latest client RDP installed?
As it seems the issue happens after changing service provider. I would like you to check with internet provider whether there is restriction provided at their end or any port blocked from there end. Please recheck your firewall whether RDP port 3389 is opened.
    What’s your client OS version?
Apart when you are trying to take remote desktop please try to use IP address rather than name and check the result.
    More information.

  • Unable to connect mac OSX 10.4.11 to wireless network (virgin media) even though iPad, iPhone and laptop ok.  Get message 'password incorrect' even though it works with other devices.  Keep getting message connect to BT unrestricted access.

Keep getting 'do I want to connect to BT unrestricted network' which I have never used before.  I can get my ISP details input but get message 'incorrect password' even though it works with 3 other devices. My network provider, Virgin Media, sent an engineer but he couldn't solve the problem - said network was all ok so problem must be with my iMac (OSX 10.4.11).  When I try to use internet I get BTWiFi is current wireless network - I've never used this! I've tried to change this and virgin media details are accepted, it's just the password stage that prevents me from connecting. I am not very knowledgeable with computers so I really need a step by step guide to solve this problem.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Excuse me barging in on the thread, but I have a lot of experience with Telus, and roaming with my BlackBerry (currently a Z10).  In short, you've been fed some outdated info by the Telus rep. Telus has become very Android-centric, and it seems like a good number of Telus CSR's are still reading from a Legacy BlackBerry trouble-shooting guide.
My Z10 is unlocked, and I periodically use an AT&T sim when traveling in the US.  I have never had to change an email setting to get full email function -- including the SMTP settings.  To put it simply, your device first connects to a network using credentials provided.  At most hotels, for instance, your device will scan for and pick up a WiFi network.  The hotel will tell you the WiFi network name and give you a password to use.  You simply enter the password when prompted, then you may have to agree to certain conditions.  That's it.
Your email settings are just that.  Using whichever network to which you are connected, the user name and password give you access.  The settings coincide with the email provider's server settings.  These don't typically change with the location from which you are connecting.
I'd suggest you take a look at this very helpful email settings tool provided by BlackBerry, if you are having difficulty:  http://helpblog.blackberry.com/2013/03/email-account-validation-tool/
It helps you determine the possible settings for connecting to your email provider.  Different providers offer different connection options, sometimes more than one.  Opinions vary, but my preference in descending order is:  ActiveSync, IMAP, then POP if required.  ActiveSync (aka EAS) and IMAP will offer 2-way sync.
Take a look at the tool and pop a message back here if you have any questions.  Good luck. ~ecm

  • Not getting e-mails from wireless cam in Windows 8 Mail App

Please forgive me if this is not being asked in the correct forum.  I could not find another place that seemed to fit.  Feel free to move it if necessary.
I have two Linksys Wireless IP Cameras.  Both are configured to detection motion and send an e-mail with 5 pictures to my Live.com e-mail address.
This configuration has been working for over 1 year and works.  To verify, I get e-mails from the both cameras when I use Internet Explorer and login to http:// mail.live.com  with my live.com (aka Hotmail) email account.
I upgraded to Windows 8, logged on the very first time with my Microsoft Live account.  From all appearances, it looks like the Windows 8 Mail App was configured to use my live.com e-mail account.  There are message there that I see when I login via
    Internet Explorer.
The problem is, I never ever get any of the emails that were sent from my Wireless Cameras in the Windows 8 Mail app.
If I sign in to my live.com email account via Internet Explorer those messages are there.  As a test, while I was looking at one of my emails via Internet Explorer, I forwarded it to myself.  That message with pictures and all did arrive in the Windows
    8 Mail app.
So, does anyone have any ideas why the Windows 8 Mail app does not get the e-mails sent from my Wireless Cameras?
    Thanks,
    Erik

Normally I do use IE to check my email.  I want to use the new stuff.  Note that the camera is stand alone and not connected to any computers.  It is a wireless IP camera and is configured to send e-mail when it detects motion.  Linksys
has told me that in general, the camera is compatible with Windows 8 but there are no drivers to plug it in directly to a computer with Window 8.
You stated that you suspect that the mail app does not support the function.  I'm not sure what you mean by that.  It is a mail application and should present me with any incoming e-mails to my account regardless of where they come from.
I know that the camera is working because I can see the message via IE in Windows 8 and in the Mail App on my Windows Phone 7.
So, if the Windows 8 Mail app does not support the function, why I can view one of the e-mails from my camera using IE in Windows 8 and then forward it to myself at the same e-mail address and then the forwarded message arrives with all the pictures
attached and is viewable in Windows 8 mail app.
I have also setup my camera to send e-mail to my work account.  At work we have Exchange and I use Outlook 2010.  I get the messages from the camera in that program without any problems.
I also get the message using the Windows Phone 7 Mail App.
I just can't understand why the Windows 8 mail app is ignoring or blocking message that are coming from my cameras.

If you are seeing an Apple ID that is not yours, then you have purchased content on your iPad that is tied to that Apple ID. You would need to know that password or remove the content that is associated with that Apple ID.

  • TS3926 Unable to reinstall Mac OSX Lion after internet recovery

Sequence of Events on My Macbook Air
    1. I saw a flashing question mark in the morning on starting my macbook air
    2. I then tried the internet recovery of my Macbook air
    3. The system took me to a recovery partition where my only option was reinstall the OSX lion
    4. I tried following the system till the Mac OSX lion disk selection
    5. I do not see any disk to select and hence cannot proceed.
Any pointers? Is my hard disk gone for good?
    Please advice Urgent!!!!

It's possible that the flash storage is damaged, but first, see if it's working properly. After starting in Internet Recovery, open Disk Utility and tell me if you see Macintosh HD in the sidebar. If so, go to Macintosh HD, open Erase tab and erase the disk. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If you don't see it, see if the flash storage appears at the top of the sidebar. If so, choose it, go to Erase tab and erase it. Then, reinstall OS X.
If you don't see the flash storage in Disk Utility or your Mac is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store or reseller

  • Connecting to internet from wireless phone?

Hello there - i have a friend that uses some sort of data type thing to connect her laptop (which is PC) to the internet. Does anybody know if this is possible to do with a macbook pro?
I am trying to find a more economical way to get internet without too much cost-
thanks for anybody who can give info on this-

    belovedjs,
To connect your Macbook Pro to the internet, you must have an unlimited data plan, regardless of the method you use. Unlimited plans are not "economical," by any stretch of the imagination.
All the carriers provide these plans at $60/month, as long as you also have a voice plan. Without a voice plan, the unlimited data packages run $80/month. That's pricey.
Carriers provide wireless "connection cards" to accompany these plans, for a fee. Depending on the carrier, the plan, and the length of the additional contract you must sign, these cards can be anywhere from $79 to around $300. Cards come in the form of Expresscard-34 adapters (which will work with your Macbook Pro), or USB "dongles" that provide the same functionality. Another method to connect is via a Bluetooth or USB (or both) phone that supports "phone-as-modem." Generally speaking, this method is slower, with more complications, than using a connection card, but it does work to provide a broadband connection.
Speaking economically, the best option available is the one offered by Sprint. They have embraced "phone-as-modem," and provide unlimited data access, using your phone, for only $40/month (in addition to the mandatory voice plan). That's the best deal going.
When and where it is available, Sprint's network is solid and fast. Verizon's provides more wide-spread and comprehensive coverage, but you don't get the break when using phone-as-modem. Cingular's coverage is relatively wide-spread, but is slower than the others.

If I understand you correctly you will input the encryption key via the linsys monitor software on your wireless computer.
open the linsys monitor on your computer
highlight the network name that you want to connect to
    click edit
and just follow the steps and input the info of which one will be the key

  • Unable to get on Internet from laptop

Hi All.  I need help!  I have an IBM t30 which is connected to my network via mini PCI.  My NM version is 5.5.91955.0-pure().
I can see my laptop in the NM Map view, but cannot connect to the internet.  All other computers on the network (Belkin router) are connecting ok.
    Any suggestions????
    Thanks,
    mopilot

Okay…in this case connect modem >> router >> pc, you need to power cycle the n/w by unplugging power cable of modem and router, wait for a minute or so…power up the modem first once modem is rebooted power up the router, check whether it works or not, if not you may need to reset the router by pressing reset button on back panel of router, once you reset the router…power cycle the n/w again, check whether you are able to go online or not…still if it doesn’t work, logon to router’s setup page, underneath  the setup page you would find subtab called MAC address clone click on it and enable it…click on clone your pc’s MAC and save the settings, power cycle the n/w again and let me know the results.
