Magic Mouse vs. Magic Trackpad

I've never owned a laptop, and the few times I used one, I found the trackpad a royal PITA (more accurately, Pain In The Finger/Hand/Wrist). But that was prior to the Magic Trackpad, and I'm wondering if my experience is specific to the types of trackpads found in those older laptops, or if it's pretty much what I'd experience with  the MagicTrackpad.
Any "hands-on" opinions?

I have never used a magic mouse, but use my magic trackpad & built in trackpad ( I have a macbook air) relgiously. The magic trackpad uses amazing technology to sense your fingers, even in 4-5 fingers at once. Touching an apple trackpad is nothing like clicking a regular mouse / trackpad. I know this is a weird example, but picture touching a magic trackpad / magic mouse as touching your hair just hard enough to feel the skin. an apple trackpad / mouse is programmed to that kind of touch. Since you barely have to touch it, it rarely causes pain. There is no 'clicking' involved. The magic trackpad is flat, but if keeping your hand flat hurts, it may help to use the magic mouse or vice versa.

  • Magic Mouse Disconnects and Trackpad Unusable

When the battery gets low on the mouse I turn it off, replace them but it doesn't reconnect.
I use the MacBook Pro in clamshell mode with the LED Apple screen, so I open it up to use the trackpad... then I go into the Bluetooth settings and it says the magic mouse is connected... I try disconnecting it, or even removing it but all I get is a beach ball... some lag and nothing changes.
Then the greatest thing of all happens... the trackpad stops working too.
Now I am stuck with just a keyboard... might as well go back to DOS.
You don't know how frustrating this is... especially because I love Apple... all I can do is force a shutdown... with all my data lost.
I really can't use a mac as my working machine if this continues. I was even considering getting an iMac too but if the bluetooth stops working there too, I don't have a trackpad.
Anyone can shine a light on this issue?

I have this same problem for my 07 iMac. It just started this summer (2014). Nothing I do will reconnect the mouse except rebooting and then it connects right up. When this happens the mouse will connect to my Macbook no problem, but just will not reconnect to my iMac unless I reboot.

  • Swipe between pages feature is freezing with magic mouse and magic trackpad in Mavericks

I am experiencing a bug in Mavericks with my Magic trackpad and the Magic mouse. This bug comes and goes and is very sporadic. When it happens I am usually in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or in iPhoto. Anything that uses the Swipe between pages feature usually locks up, and  on top of this it locks the scroling up and down function in the browsers and in iPhoto. The only thing that makes these functions work again is to reeboot or turn off bluetooth and turn it back on. I see that many people are having this problem in other posts, and I am just wondering if Apple is actually working on this bug or has somebody found what trigers this bug and do they have the fix for it?
    Thanks for your help

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Can the magic mouse and magic trackpad be used together

Having just purchased a new iMac with a wireless keyboard and magic mouse, I want to add a keypad and I'm looking at purchasing the Magic Trackpad with the Mobee Magic Numpad overlay (and connecting it to the keyboard with the Twelve South Magic Wand).
What I need to know is - if using the Magic Trackpad, can I still use the Magic Mouse at the same or must it be one or the other (would there be any conflicts)?

Yes, they can both be enabled at the same time as can the keyboard.

  • Magic Mouse on Magic Charger

The Magic Mouse that I use loses the connection after a few minutes of use. I must then shut it of and restart it again to be discovered. There seems to be no problem with Magic Charger, though I feel there might be a link to the "dropping" question.

Check that the battery compartment cover is completely closed. Listen for the "click." The Magic Charger battery unit is a tight fit. It's easy to think the compartment cover is completely closed when it isn't.

Ok, I am just trying to check out the obvious first.  Do not think I am treating you as stupid.
As you correctly say, the Mouse settings in System Preferences change depending on what kind of mouse you have.
It does appear as if the driver for the Magic Mouse has somehow been corrupted.  The most common cause is
due to third-party mouse drivers. Do you have a third-party mouse driver installed (for another pointing device, or even a generic USB input handler)? If so, uninstall these options and restart the system, and the Magic Mouse settings should reappear.
If you DON'T have any third party driver installed, then this is a web page that gives further advice:
    http://lex1963.home.xs4all.nl/mm/Magic_Mouse_troubles/Main.html
Try reinstalling the Magic Mouse update from here:

    Hope this helps.

Try resetting some of the hardware involved (PRAM~NVRAM). See this Apple KB for details, etc.:

Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently.
Failing that, take it to an Apple Store and ask staff there for assistance.

  • Is anybody else struggling with an intermittent connection when using the Magic Mouse/Trackpad ONLY on Boot Camp?

    Hi,
I've seen thousands of posts about Bluetooth connection issues and interference and stutter/lag for both the Magic Mouse and Trackpad (affecting both Mac OS X and Windows under Boot Camp) but my problem is different.
To summarise my setup, I use:
    - Retina MacBook Pro (lid closed or open, doesn't make a difference to this problem)
    - Thunderbolt Display
    - Wireless Keyboard
    - Magic Trackpad (have also tried a Magic Mouse and experience similar issues to the Trackpad)
And in Mac OS X, everything works perfectly. The keyboard and trackpad work smoothly when I'm 6-7 metres from the machine, whether or not the laptop lid is open or closed, and whether or not the Thunderbold Display is connected.
But on to my problem: the bluetooth connection is incredibly unreliable/intermittent when in Windows (I run Windows 7 64-bit and Boot Camp 4.0, and got both devices connected without any trouble via Bluetooth).
But during usage, the cursor stutters/lags frequently, and tap to click (when enabled) seems to get triggered by mistake all the time (even when I'm not touching the Trackpad or even at the computer, clicks get registered).
The Wireless Keyboard is perfect, and works well 5 metres from the machine. The Mouse and Trackpad, though, don't even work reliably when they are 6 inches from the machine. The built-in trackpad on the laptop works perfectly too, in Windows and Mac.
I spent a week assuming I was suffering from Bluetooth interference, so I tried:
    - using the laptop with the lid open
    - removing the Thunderbolt display completely and trying the Magic Trackpad
    - repositioning items on my desk
    - disabling wifi
All of these adjustments made minor differences to how good/bad the Trackpad was, but none came close to fixing the problem or making it work as smoothly as under Mac OS X. It was only after doing all of this that I realised perhaps it was just a Apple driver for Windows issue, so I booted into Mac OS X and tested everything out, and sure enough, it's all perfect. But back into Windows, the Trackpad doesn't work reliably at all.
Obviously, the hardware is not at fault, and I assume the signal strength doesn't vary between operating system (why would it?) so I'm left believing this must be a driver issue. The TrackPad and Magic Mouse drivers have been out for a couple of years, so I'm surprised they can still be this bad. I tried both the latest driver from Boot Camp 4.0 (3.2.0.0) for the Trackpad, and also the older one from Boot Camp 3.2 (3.1.0.7) and both are equally bad for me.
So my question is: has anybody else struggled with using the Trackpad (or Magic Mouse) with Boot Camp 4.0 and Windows 7 64-bit, whilst finding it to be perfect under Mac OS? I haven't found many posts complaining about the Windows driver, which is why I assumed it was an interference issue. But I'm almost sure it isn't, having spent 2 weeks investigating.
    Any thoughts/suggestions/answers much appreciated!
    Kyle

    SOLVED!
After much testing, I have found the cause of lagging/jumpiness on the Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad in Boot Camp. Hopefully this will help others:
The drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter have a setting called "Bluetooth Collaboration" that is Disabled by default. Enabling this option removes the problem instantly. My Magic Trackpad now works flawlessly, even if I stand 6 metres from the machine. It now works just as well as under Mac OS. The setting can be found under:
Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties". Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
I narrowed the problem down to the wireless card by disabling ALL startup services and processes for Windows, then re-enabling one by one. As soon as I enabled the Windows Wireless Service, the problem came back. Similarly, disabling the Wireless Card inside the Network and Sharing Center (or Device Manager) removes the problem. This led me to believe it must be a driver issue with the wireless card, since the problem didn't occur with the Magic TrackPad under Mac OS, or on my mother's Windows 7 64-bit computer. So when I went into the Driver Properties to check for an update, I found this setting about Bluetooth Collaboration.
I really hope this helps others trying to use Bluetooth devices under Boot Camp. All Apple notebooks use the Broadcom card (and have done for years), so this driver is installed for almost anybody using Boot Camp on an Apple notebook. I'd assume this problem would affect anybody using Boot Camp + wifi + a Bluetooth device.
    Cheers

  • Magic Mouse, Trackpad, Keyboards, etc.

Upon starting up my new iMac for the first time on St. Patrick's Day, I tried an experiment.
I used both the standard Apple Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (they were temperamental during the Setup Assistant process) and an older Apple USB Extended Keyboard (the old, white kind) and also a Kenington USB mouse.
The old white Apple keyboard seemed to work okay.
The Kensington USB mouse (a Pocket Mouse Pro, model #72116) did not. It would not click any buttons in Setup Assistant. Pointing was okay, but left-clicking on this mouse simply did not work. This baffled me. It also raised some questions:
1: If something happened to the standard factory-issue Apple Bluetooth keyboard and Magic Mouse (lost, stolen, damaged, out of batteries, etc.), can the iMac function on USB keyboards and mice? If so, why didn't the Kensington mouse work?
2: Is it possible to use both an Apple Magic Mouse and an Apple Trackpad with an iMac, both at the same time?
3: Is it possible to use a USB Apple keyboard (or other, third-party USB keyboard) and an Apple Magic Mouse and/or Trackpad on an iMac at the same time?
4: If my IMac and its factory-issue Bluetooth keyobard and mouse are in use, can I connect a USB Wacom drawing tablet to the iMac? Will there be a conflict? (I have an old Wacom Graphire3 4x5 tablet)
NOTE: I have not re-connected the USB keyboard or mouse to the iMac during normal (post-Setup Assistant) operations.

    Yes.

Probably, but I am not familiar with tablets.

  • Convert magic mouse into trackpad

    Hi,
I just bought myself a magic mouse for the first time and I was wondering if there was an option to turn the magic mouse into a trackpad.
After doing some research I found out that BetterSnapTool was supposed to do that, but after going through every screen in preference I still see no option for what I want.
I'm sure it must exists, I must admit that I'm fairly new to mac
    Thanks for any help!

    I understand that.
The MacBook had a build in trackpad. It's fixed in the MacBook and can't be taken out. It has a click, tap and drag gestures with one or more fingers.
The Magic Mouse is a has an area on top that is touch-sensitive and has click and drag gestures with one or more fingers.
    My question is:
Is there any way that the top side of the Magic Mouse (the touch-sensitive area) can be configured to act like an (extended) trackpad. It's like having the build in trackpad laying next to your Mac.
In other words, is there a program that can assign the drag and tap gestures made on top of the Magic Mouse (touch sensitive area) so that it can control the movement of the cursor without moving the Magic Mouse itself.

  • Rouge input devices (trackpad & Magic mouse)

I've been banging my head for days. I can't seem to find out why my wireless magic mouse & the new trackpad, seem to select any thing that would take a click to open, when I just pass over. I rarely have to click on anything, as they select it anyway, without me clicking. I have to be VERY careful as I often find my self on pages I DID NOT want. Even worse... I've unknowingly DELETEED items, as I may have passed over a delete command and the mouse or trackpack selects. It it like at rouge MOUSEOVER, or HOVER CLICK. Can't fix it. anyone know about this or can fix. It's got to be a setting, but I can't find it.
    thanks...Don

Thanks for the info, howerver may consider, but it seems to be a setting of some type as both the magic mouse & trackpad continue to accept as you pass over a link of some sort. lost a couple emails, today as the tackpad cursor passed over couple line as I clicked delete for something else. I've been into Mac for only about a year, so don't dare touch "Terminal" or anything of that sork, as I don't know what I' doing. (I'd had similar problems like this with PC,s over the years, but wasable to fix glitches, corruptions, etc. Mac....well Idon't know. Service call might be expensive.
Still looking for an answer about my "runaway rouge, mouse & trackpad
    Thanks.....Don

  • Do i need a magic mouse ?

hi all, i have a few quid burning a hole in my pocket  LOL.
I continue to be amazed at all the clever stuff that is built into my Mac Book Pro, particularly the Track Pad, until i looked in the Apple Shop and saw a Bluetooth Mouse which looks to be MAGIC, can it do more than my Track Pad does already ?, a mouse is probably much easier to HANDLE than the track pad and if it is as good as Apple say it is, is it worth £46 ?
    tim

You don't need a Magic Mouse. Your trackpad will do everything the mouse will do, or at least it will do more things than you're likely to use it for. If you love the trackpad and you're planning to use your MBP with an external keyboard, then you'll also want an external cursor control device, and Apple's external Magic Trackpad is a natural for someone who's used to the MBP's trackpad.
I recently bought a 27" Apple Cinema Display, an Apple cordless keyboard and the Magic Trackpad. I wouldn't dream of ever using a mouse again.
