Maintain superscript format in TOC?

Hi there--
I'm generating a book in which some chapter titles and headings contain superscript TM or registered TMs (e.g. "How to use Kleenex(TM)," where the (TM) is superscript). When I generate the TOC, the superscript is lost, and the TM just appears in-line with the rest of the words in the heading.
I have successfully generated TOCs before and not had this issue, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what I've done differently this time!
Does anybody know how to carry the superscript into the TOC? (And, I guess, the index as well?)
Thanks much,
Anne

In theory, yes. In practice, this is font-dependent.
Some fonts have the TM character superscripted correctly,
others have a marginal (if any) superscript built-in.
Compare Sabon and Ocean Sans, for instance.
Anne, start by checking and settling on the fonts used.
This may solve your problem.
If not, make sure all your files contain a Character Format
for superscript, e.g. "SuperDuper". Apply that character format
to all your TM characters in the headings. If you have that
character format defined also in your TOC file, the superscript
will carry over to the TOC correctly.

  • How to keep superscript format when generating a table of contents

    Hi,
I have a superscript ® in a title in a document that needs to be brought in the Table of contents. When I do generate the TOC, I cannot keep the superscript format in the TOC.
I could cheat and replace it manually, but there has to be a way it stays with those properties every time I regenerate the TOC.
    Any idea how?
    Regards.

There doesn't appear to be one.
There is one for lowercase r: \u02B3

  • How do I maintain column formatting when converting from PDF to Excel?

How do I maintain column formatting when converting from PDF to Excel? All info is no longer on the lines or in the columns they started out being in? Any help would be appreciated.

    Sara,
Perhaps I am expecting too much from Adobe ExportPDF. The reason I subscribed to this service, for which I pay a yearly fee, was that I need a way to  convert scanned and digital documents to Word &/or Excel. I read the link you included but to be candid the more I tried to understand what was written the more confused I got. The process should not be this difficult. Currently I am using a NEAT scanner to create PDF documents of whatever I scan. After I changed the OCR setting on Adobe ExportPDF the output was much better but not to the point it was usable as it was. Information that appears to be lines and columns are sometimes not recognizing two columns and just putting them together in one. Obviously not usable. The other thing it does is bunch numbers that appear in a column that are just a bunch of numbers that I have no way of fixing.
Please let me speak to someone who can help me. Right now I not getting anything of value in my paid subscription.

  • Can I export solid objects into Illustrator / InDesign CS2 and maintain vector format

Can Adobe 3D export solid objects in vector format into Illustrator or InDesign CS2 suite?
I'm interested in taking solid 3D objects developed in Pro/E 2.0 and import from Adobe 3D into Adobe Illustrator & InDesign in vector format for page layout. I want to import solid objects in vector format and maintain color scheme and surface textures.
I'm running 3D trial version and can successfully import 3D objects (asm & prt files) solid views from Pro/E but can only export wireframe views from Adobe 3D Toolkit into Illustrator or InDesign (CS2). Solid objects first have to get rendered in a raster format before importing into Illustrator.
If this function is not supported does anyone have experience doing this using Quadraspace or Right Hemisphere 3D software?

Any help???? After 2 weeks I still can't learn from Adobe or Right Hemisphere people how to import solid objects in vector format into Illustrator with color and surface textures in place. All imported objects in vector format are converted to a wireframe or line format unless they are first rasterized.

  • Formatting a TOC in Indesign 5.5

Let's see if I can explain this clearly. I am using Indesign 5.5 to generate a book TOC. The format I want is:
Frame 1 (A chapter number that isn't printed) then a tab then Frame 2 then right ident tab for the page number. There is enough room to be all on one line.
Frame 1 is on a non printing layer (from layer 2); Frame 2 is the chapter title (on layer 1). Each frame has a seperate paragraph style. In the toc dialog box I have tried to set both frames as level one with the number coming after frame 2; I have tried them on two different levels with no number after one and the number right indented after frame 2 BUT they always come out the same: frame 2 comes first then on a seperate line is frame 1 (these frames are backward) and the page number prints on a third line.
I am hoping it is just my stupidity.
    Help Appreciated.

Thanks for your quick response Peter. It feels like it should be able to be done. It is grabbing the right info but is just putting it on seperate lines and in reverse order.
An example of what I want is:
Hexagram One     Our Creative Essence               33
Hexagram One is the content from a non printing layer, next is the chapter title and then the page number.
    What I get is
    Our Creative Essence
    Hexagram One
    33

  • Why does some published text maintain font/format randomly on a page?

I'm pretty good with this stuff but can't figure this one out: When designing 1-word links on any given page, all using the same font/size, all in a vertical list, for no apparent reason some of the text/links, when published, maintain the font/format precisely, while some do not and by default choose a "similar" font? I've been forced to create picture files of individual links to maintain their look, thereby losing the roll-over and re-size capacity.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Does anyone have an answer for this? I'm stuck too. I make a beautiful looking web page in iweb 8.0, only to find that fonts have changed, sizes have changed etc when I go to publish. Need help!

  • Maintaining accuracy of Word TOC links

    Hi Folks,
After much messing about I've managed to get Acrobat to maintain the MSWord Table of content hyperlinks in the resulting pdf document. However, the links appear to lose the 'precision' that I require. They no longer link to the specific location of the heading, but instead they only link the the page the heading is on . This is going to look confusing for our end users, if they click the hperlink table of contents they are going to expect to see the topic they clicked on at the top of the page - as they do in MSWord - if the actual heading is on the lower half of the page it will appear to them that the link has taken them to the wrong page (until they scroll down!)
    Or to put it simply:
MS Word TOC essentially sets up something like a 'go to a page view' link, however Acrobat is changing this to something like a 'go to a page in this document' link?
Can anyone tell me how to make Acrobat maintain the precise link that is in the MSWord table of contents?
    Many thanks,
Running Acrobat 8.0.0 Standard, MS Word 2002 (SP3), Windows XP

I am having the exact same problem as sgsjna.
I'm using Word 2007 and the Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1.3 "Create PDF" button.
The problem is exactly as described: "They [the TOC listings] no longer link to the specific location of the heading, but instead they only link the [top of] the page the heading is on"
I would REALLY be appreciative of any suggestions to a solution for this, without resorting to the MS plug-in/add-on.
I have tried the plug-in/add-on and it does fix the issue, but my department would rather have end users use the Adobe Acrobat Pro plug-in, so my hands are tied on that point :(
Is there a setting somewhere I can change to fix this?

  • Character format breaks TOC hypertext

When I apply a character tag to part of a heading and generate a TOC, the TOC entry will be clickable up to where the character tag has been applied. Further to the right, the hypertext does not work.
I have this issue both in the Frame document and the PDF file.
Any suggestions how to resolve this?
I'm using FrameMaker 8.0p277 and Acrobat 7.0.5 on Windows.
    Regards,
    JoH

It's not an issue, rather a design feature ;-)
FM uses the formatting range to determine where to set the boundaries
of the hypertext link area. If you do not apply any different
formatting tags, then the link will extend over the entire paragraph.
I believe Rick Quatro has a fix for this, but I can't remember if it's
a plug-in or FrameScript (though I suspect it's the script). See
    http://www.frameexpert.com for contact info.

  • Saving a droplet won't maintain .PNG format...why??

I created an action that includes changing the format in the Save for the Web feature to .png. When I run the action independently it works fine and saves the file as a .png, when I run this same action as a Droplet it saves the files as .psd. This has worked in previous versions, but I can't figure out why it does not work now. Perhaps something has changed in the File Naming section?
This fails to maintain the .png format in both the Mac and PC versions.

What version of photoshop are you using?
Can you post a screenshot of the action and settings your using in the create droplet dialog?

  • Maintaining Text Formatting from Indesign CS4 to Illustrator CS4

    Hey folks,
I'm trying to transfer copy a section of text with bullets from InDesign CS4 back into Illustrator CS4.  When I copy it over to Illustrator, I lose my bullets.  I know I could do this in CS3 and maintain the bullets, but the approach I used in CS3 doesn't work for CS4.
Anyone know how to pull this off without me having to go into Illustrator and kluge together some bullets from scratch?
    Thanks!
    -Dusty.

    Thanks for the response Bob.
How do I convert my Indesign bullets to text, or are you saying I need to create them as Wingdings or somesuch and not as actual bullets?
The bullets are the main issue, but my formatted text isn't transferring either.  The text I paste from Indesign to Illustrator removes the formatting I had in Indesign (e.g., font-family, size, etc.)
    Thanks,
    -Dusty.

  • Maintaining a Format in BEx.. How?

Report requirement includes a specific order that is to be maintained.
Finished goods as well as the description is there and three key fields and the raw materials used.
    The format is :
Finished Good MATNR as Central line(first raw)

Then there should be a fixed format of Raw materials and that also should be in drill down format. So each key fiigure holds the value with respect to the raw materials.

  • How to maintain .ppt formatting using Keynote?

I have a .ppt presentation that I open in Keynote. Some of the text overlaps with others and some text boxes inside graphics get out of sync too.
Is there any "one easy click" thing that I can do so that, (when playing .ppt downloaded presentations or CD's) I maintain correct alignment as the original .ppt?
Thanks so much. Right now I am resizing each and every little field!

I don't think there is, or at least I haven't found one. Keynote does a pretty good job at reading .ppt files, but I don't think it'll ever be good enough to replace PowerPoint (for those that need to view .ppt files regularly).

  • Trouble maintaining widescreen format when combining clips

I made a demo reel from three of my movies. I made the first movie in non-widescreen format (4:3) in iMovie 6. The other two I made in widescreen (16:9) in iMovie 9.
I was able to rip (using a product called Cinematize) one scene each from a burned disc of each movie and combine them--one after another--into one iMovie 9 Project. But then I noticed that the movie playbacks seemed odd--rather than two of them being in 16:9, they all were in 4:3.
I called Apple Support and they said that you can't combine formats the way I want to. They said that if one of the clips is 4:3, the rest will automatically be formatted that way.
But I still want to do this--keep the two 16:9 clips in that format. Does anyone have a workaround? Thanks.

    Try this:
Open the slideshow.mov in QT Player Pro and export it as a DV stream with the 16:9 flag set. Then import the .dv file to a widescreen iMovie project.
Then iMovie should treat it as 16:9.
Hmm... what is the frame rate of the .mov? The .dv should use the same fps but it is fixed at ntsc 29.97 or PAL 25 fps for .dv.
