Member movement problem

Hi all, I have a situation. If any one of you can provide me a bettersolution, then I will be really thankful to you. The problem is, Every week I am getting a dimension structure in flat files.Now, there is a possibility that a member, which was assigned to aparent in last week, is now assigned to another parent this week.In short, the member is moved from one place to another place inoutline. The member can be moved from one level to another levelalso. The member will remain within a same dimension, but itchanges its parent. Not all members do that every week, but I willfind certain movements once in a week. And this thing is happeningin two dimensions out of nine. One has nearly 1000 members, andother has around 9000 members. The requirement is - if amember moves, I will have to restructure entire database accordingto the latest relation of that member. In Essbase last 5 years ofdata will be stored. So every time, this restructuring will have tochange entire 5 years of data. We are on analysis stage, so I am looking for some kind ofstrategy to handle this situation. I have an idea for this, but Iwant to know if any one you have this kind of situation before? One possible solution is to use Dynamic Calc members in those two dimensions for all parents. If this results in any parent with a large number (more than 100) children, some optimization changes would be needed, but otherwise, your only issues are likely to be retrieval performance and aggregation/formula issues (two pass, etc.). The other possible solution is to schedule a routine process based on a "restructure type" script, which exports the data, clears the database, reloads, and recalcs from scratch. Note that some performace gains can be felt here if you do the first two steps prior to your dimbuild with the new file. i.e.: - Export Level 0/Input data - Clear the database - Do the dimbuilds for your two dimensions using the new data file - Load the export file - Load the new data file - Calc the cube The above process seems convoluted, but can actually take less time than simply loading the new file and recalculating the cube (for a few reasons, but this note is already long enough). Restrict member movement through ODI

Hi All,
I was trying to restrict member movement while loading dimension members through ODI. I didn't see a setting within the Interface that can do that. In the pure Essbase world, you could restrict the dimension movement through the Rule files by simply unchecking the box "Allow Moves". If anyone has a solution, I would really appreciate the response.

There is no equivalent for planning, why do you want to restrict moves really your source should only contain members you want to update.

9.2.2 install/move problem with G4 QS 2002

I have a G4 QS 2002 with two 500GB HD's. One is partitioned into six unequal partitions, Leopard, Tiger, Panther, System 8.6 - 9.2.2, Yellow Dog, and Scratch. The Leopard has a bootable System 9.2.2 and as soon I have 10.5 in my hands AND my problem is solved, will have the Leopard OS installed. The other HD has one very small emergency partition that was created by the installation of TechTool Pro with 10.3.9 and one "large" partition.
My problem is: 10.5 doesn't support/have the "Classic Environment" and I don't want to risk screwing up having a bootable 9.2.2 OS by the 10.5 installation, so I'd like to have the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition be able to boot 9.2.2 instead but I haven't been able to achieve that yet.
What I've tried is:
1. Booted into 9.2.2 and attempted to do a copy but when booted into 9.2.2, it doesn't "see" the target partition because I don't let it reformat the partitions that it doesn't recognize such as the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition when I boot into 9.2.2, so that partition and a few others are not mounted when I boot into 9.2.2 (I might let it reformat it if I can be sure which of the partitions it wants to reformat is which).
2. I created an image of the 9.2.2 bootable partition with Tiger's Disk Utility and tried to restore it with the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition as the target. It didn't want to do that. I booted with the Tiger install DVD and restored the bootable 9.2.2 image to the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition (selected the "Erase target" option). I restarted the Mac and I notice that the restored system folder is not graphically "blessed". I can choose the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition as the startup disk but it won't boot and instead the Mac eventually boots another OS. If I restart and hold down the option key, I can see that there are two bootable volumes labeled "Leopard", the original one and the restored one which in the Finder and Disk Utility is labeled "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" but it won't boot with the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition that way either.
3. I put the special version of the QS 2002 specific System 9 install CD into the DVD drawer, restart, and held down the "C" key, but the Mac eventually booted another OS. I booted into 9.2.2 and tried to launch the install SW but it couldn't see the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition (see #1 above) and neither could any of the System 9 disk utilities with the CD. I boot Tiger, launch "Classic Environment" and try to run the installer but after a few screens it complains regardless if I let it do a clean install or update the restored 9.2.2 from the Leopard partition.
The options I think I have at this time are:
1. Boot into 9.2.2 and let it reformat the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition if I can determine which partition it is and try the various steps again hoping that one will work.
2. Install 10.5 into the Leopard partition and hope that it doesn't screwup the ability to boot 9.2.2 afterwards.
3. Install 10.5 into the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition, which is half the size of the Leopard/Tiger/Panther partitions, and live with the smaller size (or try a partition utility like iPartition, DiskStudio, or hope that the DU with 10.5 can resize partitions without really deleting them first).
4. Do what I did originally, locate my System 9 install CD, see if I can still boot with it and install a generic System 9 into the "System 8.6 - 9.2.2" partition and update the SW with the QS 2002 specific System 9 install CD so it is bootable.
5. Try a cloning utility like CCC, SuperDuper, etc. and hope it works better than creating an image and restoring it (isn't that how Apple intends for us to do backups and recoveries?).
6. Back up everything even though making images doesn't seem to be foolproof, repartition the HD and reinstall/restore (I don't like this since I don't seem to have the image/restore process working to my liking and this would take a very long time (maybe 10.6 will be shipping by the time I'm done but I doubt if it Apple will support G4's with 10.6)).
OR somebody tells me what I'm doing wrong or why my efforts don't work or what is the process that achieves my end state.

If a volume (volume = an unpartitioned drive, or a partition of a partitioned one) does not mount when the machine is booted to OS 9, this usually means the drive or the volume does not have OS 9 drivers installed. This usually results when the drive was last formatted using OSX's Disk Utility to initialize the drive, and the option to install OS 9 drivers was not selected.
Article #106849 - Disk Is Available in Mac OS X But Not in Mac OS 9
If a volume does not mount when the machine is booted to OS 9, then OS 9 can not be installed on it using an OS 9 Install CD (since it is not available to, can not be 'seen' by, the installer app); and it can not be used as an OS 9 boot volume (if OS 9 can not mount the volume, then OS 9 on it can not mount itself).
The above article suggests one possibile way to recover from that without re-initializing the drive - boot the machine to OS 9, run Drive Setup. Select the drive in question (Drive Setup can not do this for a single partition of a partitioned drive), then choose Update Driver from the Functions menu. Note that this is a non-destructive function - no data will be lost from the drive whether or not it works. If it does work, the drive, and its partitions, will then be mounted on the desktop.
Unfortunately that recovery method rarely works, and it then becomes necessary to redo the partition or the drive.
This can be done using OS 9's Drive Setup, but only on a whole-drive basis - Drive Setup can not re-initialize a single partition of a partitioned drive.
It can also be done using OSX's Disk Utility; Disk Utility may be able to redo a single partition of a drive (I don't use OSX so can not test that), but it is probable you would need to redo the entire drive. Be sure to select the option to install OS 9 drivers when using Disk Utility - that option is not always selected by default.
In either case select Mac OS Extended as the format.

OS 9 has a boot limitation - the volume it is on can not exceed 200GB. 190GB is a safe max volume size to pick for an OS 9 boot volume when partitioning a drive.

The installation of OSX (any version) on an OS 9 boot volume should have no effect on the OS 9 install or its bootability, provided the install method is a simple installation (no Archive and Erase, etc.).

It is not necessary to use a cloning utiity to move/copy OS 9 to a different volume or drive, and have it be usable. OS 9 can be installed -
• From an Install disk valid for the machine
• Or by doing a simple Finder copy of it - drag the OS 9 Syatem Folder (and its associated folders, such as Applications (Mac OS 9) and Documents) to the target volume and let go, letting Finder copy it there.
Usually a copied OS 9 System Folder is usable immediately.
Occasionally it will arrive unblessed - it will not display the Mac OS glyph on top of the folder icon. The solution for that is to re-bless it. This can be done one of two ways (best done while booted to OS 9) -
• Open the System Folder, double-click the file System to open it. Close System; close the System Folder.
• Drag the files Finder and System out of the System Folder; close the System Folder. Drop the files Finder and System back into the closed System Folder.

Jittery MC movement problem with AS 2.0

Pardon me if this is a simple, obvious thing that I'm missing, but I'm out of options after searching all over the place for an answer. I'm having trouble with something that used to work fine for me in previous versions of Flash (MX and CS3), but now that I'm updating my website using CS4, I'm encountering a problem, that didn't exist before.
I'm trying to slide a movie clip that contains buttons horizontally at varying speed based on the distance from the middle of the screen. Everything worked fine when I did it years ago, but the movement of the sliding MC now is very jittery. Even old versions of my website when loaded into CS4 appear jittery even though they didn't years ago.
I tried everything I could think of....
1. increasing the fps from 30 to 60 or higher
2. publishing at various settings: player version, AS version, hardware acceleration, etc.
3. placing all images/MCs on round numbers instead of floats
4. changing the _quality setting to "BEST"
So I boiled the problem down to its most basic element, I took everything out and created a single MC with two images on it moving to the right via onClipEvent in the following code embedded in the MC:

Both images and the MC are on round numbers and the _x increment is a round number: 2. 30 fps, published as Flash 8, AS 2.0, saved as a CS4 .FLA document. Image smoothing is on.

If you watch the clip, wait until the photos go out of frame... at some point, the movement will be jittery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have some nice, new photos I'd like to add to my site and this problem is driving me crazy! Thank you.

I'm seeing the same hesitating horizontal movement on your clip that I'm seeing on mine. I checked using Firefox and IE, and am running both on 64-bit Windows 7 with the most recent Flash version (10.1.102.64). I thought that it could be some issue with my video driver/card/settings so I also checked my .SWF on a Windows XP machine and saw the same jittery movement.
When you view your clip, does it appear 100% fluid, no hestiation?

Dynamic calc member formula problem

Hello Gurús!
We are using a member called "Full Year" that is a Dynamic calc with a member formula that calls another dynamic calc. For any reason, it is not working when we try to retrieve it from Excel Add-in.
Any ideas? Any problem for put a Dynamic Calc as member formula of antoher Dynamic calc?

that can be the problem, depending on what dimension they are in, the order the two pass occurs could couse you issues. In cases like this I've had to put the entire calculation into the member I wanted to calculate and bypass the dependency

UILoader Component's coordinate( Movement) problem

Hi All
In my program I am allowing user to drag and drop Video
thumbnails on the main stage. The UIComponent is loading external
SWF as soon as user drops video on the main screen. Also the user
can successfully drag and drop the opened video pane (which is
UILoader Component) wherever he wants on the screen.
My problem is that when user drop the UIComponent on the main
screen, the dropped UIComponenet moves little bit from the mouse
position.
I used the code that on
stopDrag,UILoader.move(MouseX,MouseY). But it did not work
because the stage is taking UILoader's top left corner as MouseX
and MouseY and move UILoader's top left corner to the cursor
position. I came up with tricky solution in which I use on
stopDrag,UILoader.move(MouseX-200,MouseY-200). This solution
was little better in my case but that's not exactly what i want
because this solution is giving inconsistent and inaccurate
results.
Does anyone has better solution? I just need that if user
stops dragging the UILoader Component , the Component should be
placed on the coordinates wherever he/she left the mouse cursor.
I will appreciate any kind of help

I assign one operation to external processing by control Key - PP02.
When i create production order , PR is generated for the external operation.
In this when , i see COOIS report at component level , qty withdrawn shown as zero.
But when i relesae PR to PO for the external opertaion , there is qty shown in qty withdrawn column ( Same as qty required ) ?? in COOIS report.
But i have not issue any qty, than why there is qty shown in qty withdrawn column.

Ok I bought The Dark Knight off of itunes, and i want to put it on my ipod. This is the first movie i have bought off of itunes. How come the movie wont download to my ipod touch??

Avi, mpeg and mov problems

I`m having no luck playing streamed .avi, mpg and .mov ( all video) files.
The avi and mpeg video files freeze up upon start up and only show the first second of the video for the first 5-10 minutes. After that they play fine although with no sound. They also play and sound fine after being downloaded and then opened.
The mov files only show the sliding bar or , after being saved , the blank QT screen with the bar sliding and no sound.
Also , the QT "intro" on apple.com/quicktime (the timberlake video) refuses to play properly, it just comes in very "blocky" with only occasional sound bits getting through. The same can be said about some avi files, when they do work.
I have flip4mac , divix, 3vix, xvid installed. Tried perian but that completely killed all streaming avi playback , just a Q with ? mark. Downloaded AC3 codec and put in the QT folder. no luck.

The following is a work-around for .avi files. Not sure if it will also work for .mpg files.
Open the file with QuickTime Player.
Open the Movie Info window (Command-i).
Note the name of the video codec used in the file.
Do a Google.com search for codec name +Mac and download one appropriate for your OS and computer.
Quit and relaunch QuickTime after installing the new codec.
Try the file again.

If repairing permissions does not work, then try the following:
KB article - No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4)
Another trick: If you have GarageBand installed, open it and then quit.

Essbase 9.3 BSO member formula problem

Hi All,
I'm working on Essbase 9.3.1.
We have an issue where a member formula, should use double quotations (") for a few members.
In the dimension tables these quotes are not present in the formula, but they come up in the outline of the cube.
All dimension builds are done through AIS because of which I'm in a fix.
I've only worked on Essbase 7 and I'm not aware if there are any settings that I could look at in AIS to see if these quotes are appended while the dimensions are being built.
The reason why this is an iss is that the test outline has the quotes, but the production outline does not have them although its the same flat file that is used for both.
Please help out here.

Obviously this won't resolve your entire problem, but just to answer the first question you can definitely use e.g. @GENMBRS successfully in the partition definitions for a single BSO cube over multiple ASO cubes in 9.3.1.

YouTube Movies Problems? Clear Cache & Cookies

When you hit a link to a YouTube movie on the iPhone, it will open the movie in mobile Safari. Movies wouldn't play and I got a black blank movie on the page with an error message saying that I needed to download Flash. This error message seems to be inaccurate. I fixed the problem by clearing cache and cookies in Settings/Safari. I don't know why that fixed it but not having Flash had nothing to do with why the movie wouldn't play - at least that's the way it appears to me. The error response from mobile Safari is just wrong. Note that the same movie played OK on the mobile YouTube app, but email links to YouTube don't call the YouTube mobile app
Also, Apple's mobile YouTube app "Sharing" function is limited and doesn't tap into the real power of YouTube sharing (Facebook, Twitter etc.). It only allows you to share by sending the link in an email. This makes for a lot of extra work to share a video to friends. Perhaps they'll expand the sharing function in a future update to the app.
It would also be nice in the future if you could set preferences for hyperlinks to call an app other than Safari - i.e. a link containing "YouTube" would call the mobile YouTube app, rather than Safari
Like I said, I don't know why clearing cache or clearing cookies fixed the problem, but it seems like a problem that could be fixed. The desktop Safari doesn't do this

I just noticed that YouTube links in email do open up the YouTube app. Prior to clearing cache and cookie the links were opening up Safari.

Issue with member move, change or delete from Planning web application

Hi
We need to make some basic editing (move, change or delete) of level 0 members of the cost center dimension from Planning web application instead of from essbase database outline. But everytime, we tried from the web Admininstration/Dimension drill down and did a Cut or Delete of a base member, the screen either becomes blank or hangs. And we would have to stop and restart the Planning web application server to bring it back.
Is this a bug or is there something we missed? We are using Planning 4.0.1 and essbase 7.1.1. Any advice on workaround is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried running the planning server in the foreground from the start menu and check the output to see if there are any issues.
Also it might be worth trying to increase the java heap size, maybe you have a complex hierarchy and this is causing the heap size to max out.
Have you tried using another method to make changes to the hierarchy such as HAL ?

Does this issue only occur when migrating the user1?
In order to narrow down whether it is an issue with the user mailbox, please create a test mailbox and try to move it for a test.
If this issue occur to all the users, I suggest we first temporarily disable the “health check” service, raise the baditem limitation to 999.

PE 9 trial .mov problems

I've downloaded the trial of v9 to check it out before I decide whether to buy. I've never used any version of PE but use lots of other Adobe software so it seems the obvious choice. I've immediately hit a strange problem. I tried to import some .mov files from my iPhone to use as test material and some of the files are fine but others give the error that either the file isn't supported or the required codec is missing. I installed the latest version of quicktime in case that had anything to do with it but that changed nothing. I really don't understand this, I have 8 or 9 short videos which were all shot this morning with the same iPhone and all imported to he computer at the same time and PE will happily work with some but not others. Why?? Can anybody help?
Would it make a difference if I tried to import the files from the iphone straight into PE (assuming you can do that?) rather than pick the files up from a folder on the PC?
I'd be grateful for any pointers as this has me stumped.

thanks for the response. I appreciate what you've said about the .mov format and codecs but what was confusing me was why some were working while others weren't and yet they were all identical. The fact that some play and are importable suggests that it is compatible but doesn't explain why some were described as incompatible. I've now solved the problem by simply closing elements, restarting my PC and all of a sudden all the video files are available. Therefore I can only conclude some sort of bug but thanks for your suggestion anyway.
The bottom line for anybody else who lands here lookoing for an answer to the same problem, try restarting elements or maybe restarting your PC and then see if all your iPhone clips are available. Mine suddenly were which I don't understand but the fact that it's working now will do for me!

Data mover problem

Hi all,
I have a table A(name(10), num(5)) in DEV environment. i have to move all the data in the table A to TEST environment. So i want to use the data mover.
I have exported in DEV and imported in TEST.
I could see the all the data came to TEST environment
The problem is.
my name field in DEV has the values like 'david ' (please mind the spaces)
but if i see in TEST i could see only 'david' ( the spaces are missing)
Do we need to put any settings in order not to skip the ending space characters in EXPORT/IMPORT scripts.
Please help me.

ur user writes some query where she would concatenate this field with another field in another table. that is why she wants the trailing spaces.Then the extra space "problem" you have should be solve by your concatenation program, not inside database. Your field in 10 characters long, if you have a name on 10 characters, how will you put an extra space there ?
I don't know how/where you are concatening the fields, but it is there you should solve it. The database should not contains extra space, you could break down the data consistency.

Unwanted Cursor Move Problem

I have a problem about cursors in XY Graph. I have two cursors and I want to get data between two cursors. I have snapped the cursors to the plot however, cursors perform unwanted move when I make them visible. hope there will be someone to help me.

You did not include any of your subVIs, but overall the code looks weird. Wy do you use a 1ms timeout to rattle through numerous property nodes of the same graph. That's a very nervous program. At least combine all thse property nodes into one and use a more reasonable timeout.
Can you attach a runnable version that includes all subVIs? Thanks!
We also cannot see the cursors because they are locked to a plot, but the plot has no data.
