Minimum number of server running

Hello,
I've got an issue in production but I'm not sure it is not a normal behaviour.
We have one group of server defined as following :
+##############################################################################+
*SERVERS+
+###############################################################################+
DEFAULT:
+     RESTART=Y+
+     MAXGEN=3+
+     GRACE=300+
+     SYSTEM_ACCESS=FASTPATH+
+     MINDISPATCHTHREADS=0+
+     MAXDISPATCHTHREADS=1+
+     THREADSTACKSIZE=0+
+     RQPERM=0666+
+     REPLYQ=Y+
+     RPPERM=0666+
+     CONV=N+
+...+
cleard     SRVGRP=CLEARDRELCOM
SRVID=1900
CLOPT="-e /appli/tuxedo/log/CCSP01P0/stderr1900 -o /appli/tuxedo/log/CCSP01P0/stdout1900 -s DB_RELCOM  -p1,60:2,30 -- -cbdir /appli/tuxedo/log/CCSP01P0/CBcache1900"
SEQUENCE=1900
RQADDR=relcomQ
MIN=4
MAX=6
After the initial boot it appears that some of the four initial processes are stopped and not restarted by the BBL.
So my interrogation is the following :
- Does the MIN parameters defined only the number of processes to be started or also the minimum number of processes to be present at any time ?
- Does the "-p" parameters in the CLOPT can decaying processes under the MIN parameters value ?

We have a branch office, currently housing 10 staff.
The office is to be expanded to 16.
Currently staff are using thin clients and logging into our Citrix Xenapp 6.5 server every day
The server comfortably copes with the 10 heads so far and is licenced to handle 20 concurrent connections.
What is the minimum number of heads before you would recommend adding a server to a branch office?

    I'd suggest that it's nothing to do with the number of users, but rather what type and amount of work is going on. It could also be affected by a number of other issues; the speed of available Internet connection, how much support you have to provide, how far away from other officesetc.However, as an exampleI had a small site with about 7 staff using PCs and another 20+ staff working in a workshop; I set them up with a coupleof servers due to the work that was going on at that site. I had planned to virtualize these, but left before I got around to it.They wereproviding AD, DHCP, DNS, CA, Print Services to 3 printers, local file store, some database apps and a specialist bar code printer. We also had separate web filtering, a local PBX linked back to a central controller. Because it was a long way to travel to reach, we tried to make...

  • Minimum memory reuuirment to run weblogic server 5.1.0

    Hi
    What is the minimum memory reuuirment to run wl on nt?
    Y.L.

    Hi Yi,
    You can check the requirements page online at
    http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/platforms/index.html#winnt
    I'd imagine that these requirements are mostly for development work. If the
    WebLogic Server resides and is for production level, then there are other
    matters to add to the equation, such as how many users to you plan to
    support, among others.

  • Process Monitoring SCOM 2007 R2-Minimum Number of Processes

    I am trying to setup a process monitor with Minimum Number of Processes set to 0 but its not accepting it and replacing it with 1.Is there way I can set it to 0, tried to edit the xml as well but its not working
    Help would be appreciated

    Hi,
    You process monitor type is: alert on out of process count i.e. process should exists on the server if value 0 indicates the process is not running on server
    and monitor type fail to calculate process count. Minimum number is 1 by default and by design.
    The Process Monitor is a "mini" management pack that runs a WMI query. The query performs a:
    select * from Win32_Process Where Name = (the parameter passed by the script for the name of the process to monitor).
    Output all parameter of win32_process class and this monitor type work on Count. If the count value is 0 indicates process is not running and this monitor fail.

  • Optimization for 256 MB of ram server running apache/postgresql

    Hi,
    I'm on a VPS for 256 MB of ram planning to run Apache and PostgreSQL.
    Does anyone have recommendations on some settings to use so I can avoid blowing up the server with memory problems due to unnecessary spawning of workers or something like that?
    Thanks.

    general principles always apply:  use the absolute minimum number of modules.  it's great for security, performance, and simplicity of configuration/maintenance.   Apache comes with a boatload of modules these days, and you really usually need only a few.  The default config should be OK performance wise unless you're really planning on some heavy traffic.
    Postgres is another story tho.  There are no modules, but the default config is absolutely minimalistic, it's intended for one local developer and that's it--even the network connectivity is disabled by default!   Postgresql LOVES memory.  the more you give it, the better it's gonna run.  of course if your db is 10mb and you give it 100mb then you wont benefit much from the extra memory, but if it's 10mb and you give it 1mb then you're gonna be running very slowly.  try to fit the whole db in memory if possible.  postgres' memory allocation parameters are _extensive_.  if you like to tweak for performance, you'll go gaga over them.
    Generally tho, you won't know what settings you need until you load your data, your site, and you let it run under a normal load for a while.  watch your logs like a hawk and 'learn' your site, how it runs, what gets accessed when, how the db is being used, is the system cpu or io bound, etc...  THEN you can start really adjusting stuff.  Donald Knuth said once that "premature optimization is the root of all evil" and running your own site will definitely demonstrate that.  Log everything, otherwise you'll have nothing to learn from.

    Hi Kenneth,
    Here for your case suggest you to configure RDP session time limit so that your user can disconnect\log off once the specific time limit reached.
    You can setup the session time limit in different method.
    1. Open the Server Manager, select Remote Desktop Services.
    2. In Remote desktop Services, in right side you can drop down to collections.
    3. Select the collection which you want to edit the settings.
    4. Under collections Properties, select Task and then Edit Properties.
    5. In Properties dialog box, select Session.
    6. You can find all thetimeout settings under session collection properties; edit according to your requirements and then OK.
    And apart also by group policy setting as below.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    -  Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    -  Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  Set time limit for active Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  End session when time limits are reached
    Please check which setting suitable for your environment and you can apply for your case.

  • Remote panels- server running application in log-off locked mode

    I have not used remote panels before and was pondering if they would work if the server (Win Xp) running the application goes into workstation locked mode.
    Company IT policy dictates that all PC's must go into locked screensaver mode after 15 minutes of inactivity. To reactivate, the user must log back in. Of course any applications continue to execute normally while in locked mode.
    Would another user at another PC be able to view/control the front panel of a LabVIEW exe remotely while the server running the application is in locked mode?
    Thanks

    "It’s the questions that drive us.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The remote panel should continue to run while in locked mode.  If another user wanted to open the remote panel and view it, that should be ok too.  Remember that there are limits to the number of users that can be viewing a remote panel.  The limit depends on how many licenses you have.  info here
    Because only one user can take control of the vi.  If the second user wanted to take control (and the first user had control) then the second user would not be able to take control.  The solution to this is to set time limits on how long a user can have control.  This is a configuration setting.
  • Does Windows 2008 Server run ok under Mac Mini Bootcamp?
    Does anyone have any experience of installing and running Windows 2008 Server on a Mac Mini (of which has either Mac OS or Mac OS Server installed), under Bootcamp?
    I currently have an old Dell with Windows 2008 server which acts as my Domain Controller, Exchange Server for a small home-office network. It's due an upgrade as the hardware is so old (and noisy!) and like the idea of having a nice compact, quiet Mac Mini, but want to make sure it can carry out the same duties under bootcamp on Win2008?
    Windows 2008 can be installed in Boot Camp.  However I don't believe it is officially supported by Apple so there may or may not be issues with installing the Boot Camp Drivers (or future updates to the Boot Camp drivers.)  Not something I'd be recommending for a "production" environment.  If this is a test/dev system, then probably worth trying, depending on how critical your network uptime is.
    Also, you didn't mention if your Dell came with Windows 2008 preinstalled, but if it did, then likely it has a "branded" version of Windows that won't activate correctly on non-Dell hardware.  (If your Windows disks have "Dell" on them, they won't work with the Mac.)  So you may need to purchase a retail or volume license copy of Windows 2008.
    In general, for a server running as a DC & Exchange, you'd want RAID1 as a minimum so that would be the Mac Mini Server, not the "desktop" Mac Mini.  Unless you have one lying around, you're looking at something around $1500-$2000 to start, depending on whether you can transfer your existing Windows 2008 & Exchange installations.  (Another $500-$2000 depending on what vesions of Windows & Exchange.)  And probably 8GB of RAM since Windows 2008 & Exchange on 4GB is pushing it.  Considering the costs, I suggest you look at the Dell T110 series or the HP Proliant 110 series.  Both lines are very quiet and are supported for Windows 2008 from the factory, including Windows Small Business Server, which includes Exchange.  While not as small as a Mac Mini, they are mini towers and about the size of a typical PC desktop.
    If you really wanted a small footprint, then HP has a "microserver" series.  You'd probably need to call HP to get the build you want as the online ordering is limited for that model.  From Dell, there is the Zino model desktop.  Again, not supported for a "server", but you were going to consider a the non-server version of the Mac Mini, then the Zino has at least a chance of you reusing your existing versions of Windows if they're Dell branded, thus saving your something in the range of $500-$2000 for new software.  (But I would NOT recommend a non-server chassis without RAID1 hard drives, so the Zino is not my choice.  I just offer it as a possibility if you accept the risk of an unsupported installation, as would have been installing Windows 2008 in Boot Camp.)
    So yes, it will work.  But I wouldn't recommend it for a production environment, especailly if you have the "desktop" computer without RAID1.
  • On which port number WDS server will listen & service when installing on server which is also DHCP server?
    hi frineds
    in documents we read when we install WDS on the server which is also DHCP server, we must select this check mark :
    "do not listen on port 67"
    it means we instruct the WDS service not to listen on port UDP 67  to avoid a port conflict between WDS server service and DHCP server service.
    So now on which port number WDS server will listen & service ?
    thanks in advance
    Hi john.s2011,
    If Windows Deployment Services and DHCP are running on the same physical computer, this means that the DHCP server is listening on port 67 and is responsible ensuring authorization.
  • Vhost configuration for Adobe Media Server running under linux.
    Please help me with Vhost configuration for Adobe Media Server running under linux.
    I was running a media sharing website for which I wanted to use Adobe Media Server.
    To use, AMS, I disabled the already installed Apache server and installed AMS along with the built in Apache server. I could successfully install AMS and could login to AMS Admin Console through my IP number.
    My existing website, www.mydomain.com is having its contents located at:
    /home/mydomain/public_html
    (Directory created under the old version of Apache not bundled with AMS)
    Users will be uploading their videos, which will get transcoded and will be delivered to the website visitors in the existing scenario.
    To use this website with AMS, this is what I did:
    I created a folder for my domain, www.mydomain.com as below
    /opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/www.mydomain.com
    Copied Application.xml and Vhost.xml from /opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/   and pasted them in /opt/adobe/ams/conf/_defaultRoot_/www.mydomain.com
    In the Application.xml file there are 2 entries:
    <Alias name="mydomain.com"></Alias>
    <AppsDir>${/home/mydomain/public_html}</AppsDir>
    Please help me with further steps to be completed:
    Do I need to create a separate VirtualHost entry in the Apache installed with AMS?
    If yes, can I specify already existing document root for my website (/home/mydomain/public_html) or do I need to create a separate folder under webroot/Apache ?
    If yes to point 2 above, then do I need to copy all the existing contents from /home/mydomain/public_html to the newly created folder ?
    I hope, I can serve all my static contents like html pages and php and media like video/audio. In that case do I need create alias to my Media/Alias folder or AMS will automatically start streaming when a video/audio is requested ?
    What other steps do i need to complete?
    Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
  • Maximum number of server nodes for a dispatcher
    Hi,
    Is there a maximum (recommended) number of server nodes that can be created per dispatcher, for the 6.40 J2EE Engine? We are considering using a 16GB RAM server with 1 dispatcher and 8 server nodes to run our EP6 SP18 portal. Are there any implications we should be aware of with this setup? Is there any additional configuration for the dispatcher necessary for a high number of server nodes?
  • Should Admin Server run on a different machine
    Hi,
              Is there any recomendation from BEA on running the AdminServer(where to
              run)?
              For the best approach (production environment), should admin server run on a
              different machine that does
              not have any managed server?
              I read in the docs that BEA recommends having the no. of weblogic instance
              be less than
              or equal to the number of CPU's. Assuming that I have 1 CPU machine, then
              running the AdminServer and one managed server on this machine, would this
              mean a performance problem or any other problems?
              Please advise.
              Thanks and Regards,
              Sriram.C.S
    I typically recommend that customers run the Admin server on a separate
              machine (a 1 CPU machine is sufficient) so that the admin server, the
              configuration information, and all of the applications are installed on
              a machine that is not handling traffic. This not only makes the admin
              server more responsive and potentially not accessible to other users, it
              keeps all of the configuration information on a machine that is less
              likely to crash since it isn't really doing anything most of the time.
              In addition, the admin server is not currently clusterable so you should
              install it on a non-clustered server.
              Just my two cents,
  • Limit number of server logfiles
    Hi
    I am relatively new when it comes to sunas, but I am trying to solve a problem before putting our system into production. I need to limit the number of server.log files for a domain on the appserver. I am running 8.2 PE on WinXP on the developer machines, and 8.2 PE on Solaris SunOS 5.10 for test servers, and I believe we are going to use EE on Solaris in the production environment. So I am looking for a solution for all of them. I have configured the max size for each log file, but I have not been able to find out how I limit the number of files.
    Anyone please :)
    Hi, thank you for the tip, but I am not sure if this is the answer to my problem, what I want to do is to specify that the server should store only the 5 newest server.log files, to SunAS from filling up the disc with logfiles. As far as I can understand the time limit in the logging options will note stop this from happening eighter. Of course I can always set up a scheduled job that deletes old files, but that will cause a bit of a nightmare for the people that is going to maintain the system.
