Move Playhead

Hello, all,
I know there is a command to move a region to the playhead position. Can we move the playhead to the beginning of a region? If so, what's the command?
Thanx!

As CCT said, the command is called Go to Selection Start. The default keystroke is shift-return. In the US preset (and I think some other presets), the keystroke is control-home (which is what Erik said).
If you have a keyboard with no home key, the equivalent of control-home is fn-control-left arrow.
I tried but it didn't work. I even deleted the one that was assigned and reassigned "Cmd Arrow", but no luck.
I think what's getting you into trouble is that there are two commands called Go to Selection Start. You'll see that if you type that exact phrase in the search box in the key commands window. They are different commands, and they are assigned to different keys. It's just unfortunate that they happen to have the same exact name.
One command with that name (Go to Selection Start) is a Global Command. That's the one you want. The other one is strictly for the Sample Editor. When you "deleted the one that was assigned" you had probably selected the wrong command (i.e., the one that was associated with the Sample Editor). Pick the other one and you'll see that it probably is already assigned to one of the keystrokes I mentioned. Or don't even bother opening the key commands window. Just select a region in the Arrange window, make sure the playhead is not at the start of the region, and press these two keystrokes:
shift-return
control-home
I bet one of those keystrokes will make the playhead jump to the start of the region.
Remember that Return and Enter are not the same key.

  • IMovie on iPad mini says "Move playhead to wider audio section!?"

My iPad mini has iOS 6.1.3, And I'm using iMovie version 1.4.2. Anyway, when I was editing a movie, I try to add a sound effect to the movie, but it said "Move playhead to a wider audio section", And I was confused, because when I tried to add the sound effect, there were no sound effects there. It said there were too many sound effects there, when there were no sound effects there. I have no idea why that happened, because no sound effects were there. Please help.

I'm not sure if this is how the program is supposed to work or not, but I was able to change the audio once I took it out of the video and then dropped it back into the project timeline but not dropping it onto a single clip, therefore making the audio clip show a bubble around all the video clips instead of being a bar underneath the video clips. Hopefully that makes sense.
If you go to http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-music this is the first example of dropping an audio file into the timeline. You can move the clip around by dragging the top title bar of the audio clip.
Also, I'm not sure this had anything to do with it as well, but while I was having problems changing background music audio levels, the sound level for my video clip was 'normalized'. I have since removed the 'normalization' from the video clip and am able to lower the music volume after making those two changes.

Yes, I have heard of that with certain Mac OS X 10.9 and OS X 10.10 installations. Is that what you have? No current solution but please file a bug report and I'll look into it more deeply when I get back to the office on Monday.
I've advised others to turn off thumbnails if it is really slowing down your workflow.

  • Move playhead by using scroll wheel

Is there a way I can move the playhead with my mouse scroll wheel?
I can scroll horizontally through my timeline, but that is not what I need.
I want to move the playhead every scroll-'click' by 15 frames for example.
Pinnacle Studio had that feature, worked really fast.

Given the scrolling function of the sequence, I'm not sure how it could.
A modifier key, maybe.  You can always ask.

(Be sure to also ask them to reverse the Program Monitor scroll so down goes forward, like it should.)

The Key Commands are there but as so much other stuff not mentioned in the documentation

  • Motion 5.1 Go to Selection In Point does not move playhead correctly

    Hello,
anyone seen strange playhead locations using 'selection in/out point' when opening motion projects created with 5.0.. ?
    Kenneth

i checked a few smaller projects and dont see the same issue.
For the project with the issue - check the playhead - layer group selected  (the layer group is a sub-group of a group with a large number of groups ~ 15-20 groups with 5-10 objects per group'ish .. ).
    go to selected in point
    go to selected out point
Strange...  ps. i deleted my motion preferences in the ~Library/Preferences wo luck.

  • Is there a way to move the playhead by a defined time?

Ok, here is what I woud like to do in AA CS6:
I want to create a macro (outside of AA) so I can place the playhead, click my macro button, move the playhead back by 3 seconds, then hit play (for a define 3 second duration) and then hit R (my hotkey for Record).
My only holdup is that I can't find a way to move the playhead back by exactly 3 seconds.  Is there a way to do this in CS6?  Everything else I have worked out with the macro, I just can get the playhead to move exactly 3 seconds back.
It has to be exact or I will get weird timing.  I'm looking for a Cmd+Shift+something to bring up a "Move Playhead" dialog or something that I can put -3seconds into.  Thoughts?

The only place in Audition that you can move the play head precisely is in the selection/view box at the bottom RHS of the edit window - this has six time selection boxes that you can input figures directly into, or you can drag the numbers with the mouse. The top left box will let you move the playhead to exactly where you want it - but there's no way to shift focus to the box within the keyboard shortcuts, I'm afraid.

  • How do I save a movie frame as a still picture?

I like to pause my HD movies and use grab to save a frame as a photo but this new version of quicktime puts a control bar inside the movie frame so my grabs include the control bar. It goes away when running a movie but comes back when in pause and you are trying to use grab. The old quicktime did not have this issue.
If not, is there an alternative way to save a frame?

If not, is there an alternative way to save a frame?
Or, if you have MPEG Streamclip (free) installed and want some additional/limiterd editing options, simply open the movie in it, move playhead to the desired frame, and select the "Export Frame" File menu option to access additional options as depicted below:

Not really sure what you want to do here. Finder "icons" can be set by dropping an "image" to the QT icon in the Finder "Information" window. On the other hand, "Poster Frames" can be set in either:
    1) QT Pro: open file in the QT Pro player, move playhead to frame you want as "poster", use the "Set Poster Frame" View menu option set the frame, and save the file using the "Save" File menu option.
    2) iTunes: Select the M4V file in the list, play movie until "Preview" window displays the desired frame, "Control-Click" the preview window to open the "contextual" menu, and select the "Set Poster Frame" option.

  • Advanced Button with Movie Clip and Fading

Problem: I'm trying to create a bottun that when you roll
over it it plays a movie clip and also fades in and out on roll
out. It is similiar to the three main navigating buttons on the
    following site.
    http://www.fjcruiser.ca/
the buttons with the compasses that appear are the ones I am
    talking about.
I already know how to make buttons, I just can't figure out
the actionscripting to load the movie and also fade in and fade out
according to roll over and roll out.
    Please help. Thank everyone.

Amazingly, I actually know exactly how to do this. And it
only requires about 4 lines of code in the _root layer and on the
    button.
Instead of having the rollover load an external movie, you
want the have the rollover execute an on(enterFrame) function that
tells each newly entered frame of your movie to check to make sure
the mouse is still on the button, and if not, send the movie
    playhead backwards.
So, put that sampleMovie right on the stage with the button.
Then write the code in the _root so that says: as long as the mouse
is over the button, the movie will advance to nextFrame(). When it
gets to the next frame, again the code checks to see if the mouse
is on the button, if so, the movie is instruct to go one more next
frame (which is tweening the fade, right?) again, over and over
until the stop() at the last frame. But, if while while entering a
frame, the code finds that the mouse is no longer over the button,
it does the same thing but this time instructs prevFrame(), and so
on, going prevFrame (backwards, in other words) as long as the
mouse is not on the button.
The result of the above is a gradual fade in and out,
depending on whether the mouse is hovering. This, as opposed to an
    abrupt disappearing graphic on(rollOut).
Click the below link for the .fla that demonstrates this
technique (which, by the way, I learned from Joshua Davis'
excellent book, "flash to the core". Check it out at Amazon, or
    wherever. Lots of cool tricks).

  • IMAQ image out- what's the best way?

    Hello forum,
I'm developing an interface to acquire a square image from an NI-DAQmx PCI 6221 on LabVIEW 7.0 and Windows XP. At present I am simply collecting my information from a physical sine wave generator on the bench, but eventually this will be used to process images from a CARS microscope.
My problem is that I am trying to figure out a user-friendly way of "buffering" all previously acquired images in the session, and then choosing one several of them to save as an uncompressed BMP. At the moment I am using two image displays; one for the whole image overview (picture indicator) and one to pan around and zoom on fine details (IMAQ image indicator). The IMAQ image indicator is also outputting to an IMAQ browser window, which I have modified based on the Browser Example.vi which ships with LV. However, there are several difficulties with this method.
Firstly, I'm not sure how to select an indexed image from the browser itself to save; the only way I can think of would end up wiring the IMAQ image out to the BMP writing VI, but that would only save the current image, and not necessarily the one the user wants.
Secondly, I haven't quite got the hang of combining case structures, event structures and while loops yet, so there's a very specific order things have to be done in or the program hangs, (e.g.. you must press the buttons: Acquisition - Unlock Browser - Stop in that order, nothing else works properly), and I'm pretty sure I've set the browser up wrong because every time I finish with the acquisition window, an error message appears.
Thirdly, it would be nice if I could hide the browser window until I've finished with the other window, but I can't seem to get IMAQ windshow to do that. I have boolean constants wired to Hide/Show and Set/Get but no matter what combination of false and true I use, the window appears anyway.
I will attach the VI and subVIs to this post in a zipped folder, and would appreciate any help you could give me. General constructive criticism on my wiring, methods, Rude Goldbergs, etc, would also be appreciated if anyone has the time, as I'm still pretty new to LabVIEW.
    Thanks in advance!

DH is right about the difficulty in removing wind noise, but hoping it might prove useful, here is a hint I copied from a thread somewhere in this discussion list.
How to export audio from Final Cut Express to (free) Audacity and back again after noise removal.
    1) download Audacity
    2) in fce timeline, place in and out points at beginning and end of audio
    3) select that audio clip, and that clip only
4)file-export-using quicktime conversion, in the pop-up box format as aiff, 44.1kwh 16bit stereo
5)open audacity, make sure box in bottom left corner says 44100
    6)file-import-audio
7)go to file and select it, click choose
    8) select part of audio with just wind noise, then go to effects noise removal, click get noise profile etc.
9)when satisfied, click file-export, click ok, close audacity
10)Open fce, drag your audio clip to the right hand end of clip. Move playhead to the in marking. Go to File-import
    select your audio file, choose.
    11) file appears in fce browser. Drag from there to overwrite and the audio goes into the track, perfectly synced
My apologies to whoever posted this hint, I tried to find the name to give credit. This really does work to get rid of room hum, but wind noise is a really different beast and this may not help. I suspect, as DH says, it will remove too much of the audio you want to keep. Hugh

  • How do I view playback position while a clip is playing?

I just want to see where I am in the clip. For example, 5:03... 7:14... etc. I literally cannot figure out how to simply show where I am in the clip. This seems ridiculous. What am I doing wrong?  I have clips I need to edit based on time stamps... what am I supposed to do, sit here with a stop watch?  I am using iMovie 10.0.2.  OS is Mavericks 10.9.1 despite what stubborn and troublesome metadata at the bottom of this post says.
    I want iMovie 8 back.

Do you want to see the score to read from it while recording, am I right?
If so, to be able to do that, you have to disable Catch and Link functions.
Catch: Preferences -> Global -> Catch (uncheck everything, otherwise it will automatically switch on every time you move playhead or start recording or playback)
Link: click on the symbol showing a chain (upper-left corner of each window) if it's highlighted in yellow (this will result in different content being displayed in any open window, so you can have one part of arrangement in Arrange and another part in the Score editor).

  • Premiere Pro CS5.5 Mac - Timeline Previews are being Killed... Any way to stop this ?

    Hi...
On Video track one, I have the track height very high so that I can see the footage poster frames. I love editing this way.
Lots of times, I will edit simultaneously between multiple sequences. My problem is that after a while PPRO just kills the poster frames,
and when I enter the sequence that I was just editing in, I have to wait for pPRO to rebuild them... AGAIN.
    This takes time.
Tried saving the project to have PPRO NOT kill the previews... But that does NOT help..
Any ideas of how I can get PPRO to maintain those Poster Frames...
    Thanks

    lasvideo wrote:
I never use that function at all.
That is probably because you dont work with skimming... I do..
I would go mad and grow old if I had to double-click footage and watch it in the source panel, the way the Premiere Crew intended for it, so I use an alternate workflow...
    Skimming
    Example;
1 - I'll Import several rushes residing in several folders.
2 - I create one sequence per rush, sometimes one sequence per Scene
3 - Then Automate the whole rush to the sequence
4 - I'll create my main sequence and call that story board.
5 - on the Top of the screen, I'll open the RUsh-Sequences
6 - In the center I have the program monitor along with a scope
7 - I have programmed a short cut to the "Move Playhead to Cursor" function
When I depress that shortcut, and move the mouse the playhead will follow the mouse wherever it goes, and since I use RAID0 and Prores the movie updates immediately.
Just like skimming which is the most (and ONLY) powerful feature FinalCutX brought about. Nevertheless a feature that experienced editors have been using for years...
8 - So now, instead of using the ultimate slow method of double clicking a clip in the project panel and opening it in the source monitor, I'll just move the mouse over any clip while pressing my shortkey
and that is the fastest way of skimming thru' (sorting) your footage. I'll set in/out points on the fly.
9 - I have BOTH the Rush-sequence and storyboard sequence open in TWO separate timelines and I'll just drag whichever clip I have trimmed from the rush down to the storyboard sequence.
This workflow is being seriously crippled by the previews being deleted all the time...
I was never much of a text reader and I find it 100% more intuitive to find my clips by looking at image-representations of them instead of reading the clip names...
I am including a small demo-video displaying the workflow. It was taking off my 30" Apple display and down-sized.
The movie (compressed) is stuttering but that stutter does not appear on the local mac in PPRO
You will see me skimming thru the rush-sequence and with the mouse-wheel scrolling to different locations on the timeline. This way of sorting and finding clips is extremely fast, IMO ;-)
I was not aiming to make a tutorial, just to display my workflow so that you can see what I am rambling about ;-)

  • Make a clip dissolve to black & white then back to color

Hi. How do I make a clip dissolve to b&w in the middle of it then back to color?
    Message was edited by: Hoops24

    Hi,
    welcome to the forum,
Choose Color Corrector 3 way from effects>Color Correction.
Apply it to your desired clip> in the timeline place the playhead at the point where you want the image start to desaturate > click clip/load it in viewer and on the top of the CC 3 wheels you can see the playhead position. Hit the keyframe button (left-hand side of check box and eye icon)> move playhead in the timeline and position it at the point you want the image turn completely b&w and slide the saturation control to the far left. A new keyframe is automatically added. Move playhead forward>choose point from which b&w starts turning into color again hit the keyframe button> move the playhead forward to the point in timeline where you want full colors displayed again and bring back saturation (still in CC 3way) back where it was originally.
