Moving broadband takes a month...

Hi there,
I moved from my old property on 1st September and therefore I reported the move to BT 10 days before on 20th August. Speaking to a customer service advisor I was ensured that the line at the new place will be connected by 1st September. Since the previous tennant living in the propoert had outstanding I was told that I need to wait 10 days as BT needs to communicate that the previous tennant's line will be disconnected which is fair. Later on I was infromed that the activation of my broadband is scheduled for 16th September which I have queried when speaking to CS earlier on yesterday and so I was told that my broadband will be activated by midnight. I received a text a little while later confriming that the phone line has been activated however there was no broadband connection. Today I have spoken to BT customer services again and I was told that nothing can be done and the broadband will only be activated on 16th September whilst no engineer visit is required and I have all the necessary equipement as I am a BT customer.
It is almost a month without broadband for someone who is making its living by working from home... My friends moved at the same time, requested to be connected on 27th August and had broadband by yesterday evening.
16th September is still 6 days down the line and to be honest I am very disappointed that I stayed with BT rather than going with another provider.

it appears the problem has been caused by the previous tenant and oustanding bill?
did your friends also have the same problem with a previous tenant?

  • It's going to take 1 month to move my phone!!

We have just contacted BT and we have been told that it will take one month to move our phone - this is a move of 1/2 mile? We own both properties. How can this be done any quicker? Apparently Outreach are to blame?
Very frustrating. How can this be done quicker? The website says give a min of 14 days but elsewhere " we can do this in 5 days"!

I expect you mean Openreach. They are totally overloaded with work due to the rain, which is getting in everywhere.
Openreach provide and maintain the external network to all the service providers, so everyone is in the same boat, which is slowly sinking

    Complete rubbish
    Apple do not lock iPhones
Carriers do because they have subsidised the purchase price
and therefore only the carrier can unlock an iPhone
Orange have decided to apply 6 months to protect their revenue
they never have been the fastest to unlock

  • Outrageously high broadband fee by monthly direct ...

Confused by constant increases in Monthly Direct Debits, spoke with the indian helpdesk on numerous occasions over the past 12 months and to be honest I am outraged by the change of paying an increase in a Broadband Only option 3. Look if I take up a 12 month contract I know how much over a 12 month period I should be paying. Please do not try and tell me how to work out the BT way of billing! When they originally sell you a service, its generally pay X for 3 months then goes up to X for the rest of the period, so why do BT feel the need to increase your payments. The last conversation I had was because of the predicted useage on my telephone, BT felt the need to increase my monthly direct debit? Why? I have never used the the BT landline for calls, it is a broadband only option so why are they using this predicted useage! Listen, when I took the service out it should be £11 a month line rental and £ 25.99 broadband, so why am I constantly fighting to keep my broadband amount to £37 a month (which I am more than happy to pay, or was anyway), which it should be, but instead I am paying £49 a month for broadband only!!!
£49 a month for broadband... Incidentally started doing some investigation on other service providers and what I am paying is more than double. Also to top it off the exchange I am on only handles 2meg download.
Can someone investigate this immediately because I am not prepared to contact your indian helpdesk who are totally useless.
    Thanks

    Hi stevem1981,
    Welcome to the forum.
I think Ectophile's right, it sounds like you're on a Monthly Payment Plan, where a set amount is taken from your bank account each month, and then you receive a quarterly statement advising of your debit/credit balance.
If your account is in debit or credit by a large amount (and this is relative to what you pay monthly) then the amount is reassessed and increased/decreased accordingly.
If you can send in your forum username and BT account details to the email address registered against my profile I’ll check this further for you.
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

  • Clarification on BT Broadband 12/18 month contract

Asked our company Lawyer who told me once you have completed your one year contract you have fullfield your obligation TO WHOEVER and they don't have the legal right to impose another contract without contacting you first.
Broached this subject with High level complaint on 0800671502 3 weeks ago. I was told when my contract with BT Broadband ends, I will be on a one month rolling contract.
Some people  have had contracts renewed without their knowledge.
Can someone tell me otherwise!! or are BT lying to me?

You can look at it this way. After your contract ends BT could do one of 2 things,
    1) stop your service as you have no contract with them.
    2) put you on a new 12 month contract.
They don't do either but take it a month at a time until you the customer decide on what you want to do
YOu have to be under a contract even if it is a rolling one to recieve service as it protects youu and the provider as you are bound to there terms of service.

  • Debt recovery on moved broadband with BT (Current ...

    Small history:
Signed up with BT broadband some 3,5 years ago, As well as a phone line. About 1,5 year later, we moved address not to far from the old one, and thus called BT to have our phone and broadband moved to the new address.
I asked weather this was a problem, as we had run the course on our contract, and they didn't give any warning signs as to us moving to a new address.
As we held on to the old apartment for 2 months after moving to the new, not long after, they contacted us regarding an outstanding bill at that old address, and I asked how that was possible since we were now installed at a new address and paying for both broadband and phone there, and also why I was told that it would be closed, with no charges, when moving into a new address. One phone call later they were happy that to inform us, that it was a mistake, and the charges would be removed, we assumed that was the end of it, and continued to this day, with BT.
Now this morning, we received a letter from a Debt recover agency called SRJ. They claim we owe BT 150 pounds in outstanding charges for BT broadband at our old address. To be sure after calling them, talking to some person claiming this and that, not to mention the threats, I went to try and call BT and ask them what they possibly have going on here. Got India, and got disconnected (Will try to get an English number for billing if it exists) no surprise there (Anyone got a number to English "service" ?)
So, apart from the fact that I don't believe one second, that after 2 years, they suddenly pop out, with no warning to collect money, that we never owed them in the first place, as all bills have been and always was pay'ed. Any suggestions and or experience with similar claims would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Mac,

    Update.
About 2:30 into calling BT, and 2 wireless phones with dead batteries later, on the 4 call, I managed to get through to the correct department for billing in the UK. Spoke with a very nice lady, who promised that they would call of the debt recovery, until the matter had been sorted, and is now being looked into, with a firm promised that she would call me back within the day, to see what they can recover.
As this is on the old account system, they seem to be having trouble accessing the details, but I did manage to attain, that they believe to have somehow transferred back a valid payment of our broadband, to our account, thus missing a payment from May 2009.
This brings me back to the fact, that our broadband contract at the old address ended in January or February 2009 and we took over the new address from 2nd of march 2009. I even have a letter from the 26 February stating that they are happy to confirm the renewal of our old contract, which makes no sense, and probably where the fault lies, as I remember calling them asking why they are renewing our old contract when, we in fact, just asked them to move the broadband to our new address a week later. This is where they returned payment we made via direct debit probably around may 2009 where that bill would have been due.
Going to check into our accounts, if they date back that far to see what has been payed and what was returned and when. Might shed some light on this rather odd occurrence.

  • Got a new job, moving to London 5 months into a 12...

So I recently got a job in London from the Shetland Islands.. needless to say I was promoted twice rapidly within my job but now I'm landed with a problem. I'm probably going to moving into an apartment which already has internet while I still have time left to run on my BT deal.
Obviously I thought that I'd be in Shetland for more than 5 months but this whole situation kind of escalated rather hastily!
Is there anything that can be done in a situation like this?

If you mean will BT release you from your contract without penalty, the answer is almost certainly "No". The existing service at the new apartment would not be transferable to you anyway. You could make a private arrangement to pay the  present customer if they were willing, but it might be better in the long run to take your current contract with you.

With your line attenuation you should be getting a sync speed of 16000 kbps and a profile of about 14 Meg, however it looks like you line has been capped at 1/2 a Meg, that is why your noise margin is so high ( should be around 6dB ) now this could be due to a line fault ( loss of framing/signal ) or a problem with your internal wiring.
However since you have has this problem for so long your best bet is to ring BT India on 0800 111 4567 and try and get a SFI fault raised so an Openreach broadband engineer can come and see if they can sort the problem out.

  • Safari 4 takes a month to launch

Well, not a month, but literally 20 min. I had an earlier problem where Safari wouldn't launch at all, but fixed that thanks to Carolyn Samit. Now it just takes forever to launch on my PowerMac G5 dual 2 GHz. Once it launches, it works ok, without any perceptible delay. Safari 4 on my MacBook Pro launches fine. How do I fix this?

    Good.
    How much free disk space?
Also, if you have third party Safari add-ons installed, that could be a factor.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
You've had problems with other apps not launching recently? http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12230363#12230363
We tried helping you here, but you didn't respond to the last 2 posts in that thread.

If you haven't booted from your install disc recently and checked the startup disk for errors, considering the problems with Aperture and now Safari,it would be a good idea to that.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*

  • No phone or broadband for one month and no fix in ...

Our line went dead on 23rd December. We have had no end of excuses about why it hasn't been fixed and we are getting desperate because we both work from home and rely on broadband.
We know there is a fault in the cable along the road outside but we have been given all sorts of excuses and lies from Openreach. These include waiting for a survey, waiting for permission to use traffic lights, the fault is above ground, the fault is underground, they need permission to cut trees (even when they said it was underground??), bad weather... the list is endless. They have told us there is someone working on it now, yesterday, there will be tomorrow. It is an absolute disgrace. We have just been told that it will be well into February before it will be fixed. How long does it take to fix a piece of wire in this day and age?
What makes the situation crazy is that our neighbour subsequently had a fault and they reported it to their supplier (talk-talk) and the openreach engineer came that day and fixed their fault which is in the same cable!! The engineer told them there are many spare pairs in the cable but BT have refused to swap us onto a different pair.
    Any help appreciated.

  • FIFO showing NO difference than the Moving Average for a Month !

    Hi,
I am trying to re-valuate my Inventory ( Moving Avg ) for April using Single Receipts ( only for the entire month ). However, when I run MRF1 ( after MRF4 & MRF3), I am NOT able to see any difference between the Moving Average Price and the Net Price.
In other words, my Net Price is getting updated at the Moving Average Price and hence no Difference and therefore no Revaluation.
    Eg
    test Scenario
    04/02/2011 GR 200 ( Qty ) @ 2.0 == Total 200
    04/05/2011 GR 300( Qty) @ 3.0 == Total 900
hence the updated Moving Average Price = 2.2
    04/12/2011 GI 400 (Qty) @ 2.2 == Total 800
    The Remaining Inventory should be Valued @ 2.2 = ( 100 * 2.2) = 220
But the FIFO Revaluation on this one should be = 100 * 3.0 = 300
However, when we execute MRF1 we are still getting it at 220 instead of 300. i.e. the Book Value and the Net Value are both 220 and the difference 0
Has anyone across such an error ( SAP Note 74316 looks similar but, it's supposed have been addressed in Release 4.0 by using extracts and Single Receipts - we are using both )
    Any help is appreciated
    Regards

    Run TCode OMWP
Check "Single Receipt" for your FIFO method. If you cannot change, should create a new method.
