MS DOS Error

when i try and using java (javac, java)in ms dos i get a message "This program cannot be run in DOS mode"
i have downloaded j2sdk-1_4_1_01-windows-i586 only
can anyone please help me? as i am new to java.
thanx

I don't think you CAN run java under ms-dos, I think you need to run it from a shell in Windows, but I haven't tried this under j2sdk 1.4.1.

  • Ibook will not Boot - goes to DOS, error message inside

    Hi folks,
The old ibook (late 2004 model) is slowing down more and more, and yesterday refused to boot after crashing.
I left it booting on its blue screen for a while and it eventually went to a black dos screen with the following message:
SystemStarter[47]: The following StartUpItems failed to properly start:
    /System/Library/StartUpItems/PrintingServices
    - execution of Startup script failed
Now i'm assuming the problem is with the start up script, so I've looked around and done a few things suggested.
    For example:
    1. Reset the PMU ~ Shift - Control - Option - Power, waited for 5 secs, then rebooted, same problem.
    2. Ran single user commands as detailed here http://missionitgroup.com/blog/?p=1490
Tried this twice to make sure, same thing happened. When checking the disk for errors (/sbin/fsck -fy) it would not find any volumes.
Also it would not run repairPermissions, it just kept giving me the options under diskutil, but not running the repair (Im assuming this may be due to it not being able to find any volumes)
    3. Someone has suggested running the Mac from its original startup OS X DVD.
The problem is that there is a DVD (movie) already in the drive and pressing eject does not eject it.
    4. I put the ibook into Firewire mode with it attached to my iMac. The iMac could see the DVD that was in the ibook drive but could not see the ibooks harddrive.
sooooo!!!!! a bit lost as where to go from here, any help would be greatly appreciated!?

    Drewdrops,
That is a link for a SATA (Serial ATA) drive) which will not work. You need a PATA or Parallel ATA drive, also called ATA, Ultra ATA or IDE drive. The drive in the link you sent is also a 3.5" drive. You will need a 2.5" notebook drive for your iBook.
After you get the new HD installed, you will have to boot from your Leopard install DVD, go to Disk Utilities again, select the drive in the list of volumes and click on the 'partition' button. select 1 partition (unless you would like more than one volume), make sure that "Mac OS Extended (Journelled)" is the format selected and then click 'partition'. You can then quit Disk Utility, and continue the installation. If you click on the 'options' button in the first install pane, you will see the button, pre-selected, that says 'installs OS X for the first time'. That is the correct choice.
After the install is complete, you'll get the welcome window, set up your account, and get going on your iBook. Immediately go to software update in System Preferences and begin installing the myriad of updates. After each install and restart, return to software update again and again untill it finally says that "you are up to date". This entire process can take hours, but stick with it. One more thing that is very important.... After you are finished with updates, open Disc Utility in the Utilities folder that is within your Applications folder and drag that icon down to the dock. Open it, select your HD volume to the left (the upper one with numbers, not the sub-volume) and then click "Repair Disk Permissions". Apple recommends doing this after each time you install updates and generally at least once a month after that. The instructor in an OS X class that I once took, said that you should repair disk permissions every week.
To me, all of you symptoms would point to a failed hard drive and a replacement would most likely take care of the problem. Are there ever any guarantees, though?
Is there an Apple Store close to your location? You could make an appointment at their "Genius Bar" for a free check-up. They will look at your iBook, tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost to repair it at their facility. You are not required to have it repaired there. It's just s service they offer. Look at the bottom of the Apple Store or Support page. I believe there is information about making an appointment.
Let me know how it goes.

  • Java Runtime errors in Windows (error=2,3,...)

    Hello,
I had a Java progam that makes calls to external programs (of the type of question 2 in the FAQ), but for which I have no access to the code (it is intended for Unix). I have Java installed including the docs (except search API). My question is:
error=2, error=3, error=193 are IOEXceptions which mean something like file not found, not an executable file, the processe returned an exception, etc. Where can I find a translation of those cryptic numbers in plain English, within the docs?. Searching the Internet is not efficient ... TIA
    LT

    Just to add some perspective:
Almost all UNIX platforms provide a file called /usr/include/errno.h (or same name in a subdirectory /usr/include/*/*.h ) as part of the baseline OS. It is only about 100 error codes and is based on the UNIX system calls. This file is provided even for those UNIX platforms (like Solaris) that do not provide any form of C compiler with the OS software (you have to pay extra for the compiler, often a lot extra). Its pedigree goes back to the origins of UNIX.
While Microsoft has a web page with their error code info, they do not provide the file is as part of the baseline OS. I agree that Sun could attempt to provide pointers, maybe as part of a FAQ on their web site. Perhaps Sun does not want to get bogged down with the complexities introduced by a major competitor's legacy issues:
ERRNO.H (for the WIN32 version, about 40 codes, for the C Runtime Library)
ERROR.H (DOS error codes, derived from XENIX, OS/2)
WINERROR.H (12,000 line header file all Win32 codes know at that time, using fields la DEC's VMS, but includes codes of ERROR.H)
I expect that Sun's implementation of System.exec() calls the Win32 API routine CreateProcess and that probably the only codes you will see returned are defined in ERROR.H

    hi matthew737,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Are you shutting down the System like this?
    1. Pull up the Chams Bar on the right hand side.
    2. Press the Power Icon
    3. Click on shutdown
If NO -  Shut down should be on this method, Try it and see if that fixes it.
If YES -  Try Disabling the fast start up
    Hope this helps

  • IOException error=87

    Hey you all,
I got this strange error, when running a binary out of my java program (via the Process class), my Program crashes and I get:

The ....exe 's are the path to the executable plus two command line parameters. I don't seem to find a list of those error codes. I think, 2 was file not found, but 87 ????
    Any help would be appreciated.

I didn't know either, so I went to Google and gave it the keywords "Dos error 87", and it had several places that told me it means "Invalid parameter".

  • T42 cannot load dos - while trying to install XP pro

Hi everyone! I just got a refurbished laptop and when I installing I get the error cannot load dos press anykey to retry. When I press anykey laptop reloads and same thing occurs after I pass IBM logo screen. I'm able to access bios, and choose which device boots. Unless I boot from CD-Rom that XP disc is in after IBM logo screen flashing cursor with black screen will appear.
So Mainly cannot load dos error. Any help, advice? Thanks!
P.S. I'm not very techy or computer savvy so be easy on me!!

If you download the trial version and it gets to a certain spot and cannot finish the install the DRM might be in the registry. Using any type of cleaner will not remove it. The DRM is hidden and locked. This to allow a one time only 30 day trial and to stop people trying to reload it for another free 30 days. You will have to reformat your hard drive and do a fresh up load of your Operating system.
If you feel like it never got to a point of installing the DRM in the registry then you will have call Adobe.
I am a little confused on what you did. You first stated that you downloaded the 30 day trial then you purchased CS4 at a offered discount. Was the discounted version a download too or did they send you a disk to install with?
Look in the Vista Event Viewr and look for Adobe install hits and post them here.
Going under the assumption you downloaded the software you have to install it as Admin. The download folder should be on your desktop. Inside that folder there are 2 files. One file is the .exe file. Right click on that and choose run as Admin.
Before you do the install turn off any anti-virus, Windows defender, and remove Adobe reader if installed. Leave UAC on.
During install the software will hang around 90 percent for about 10 to 15 mins. That is normal so let it run.
    After install reboot computer.
When rebooted, go to Start, All Programs and right click on PS CS4. Choose properties, compatibility, and check Run as Admin. Hit Apply then OK to close out.
Run PS CS4 and update to 11.0.1
If this does not work then your at the mercy of Adobe Customer Service.

  • Configuring my router to cut down on Denial of Service errors

    Hi,
I am having problems with dos errors clogging up the bandwidth in my network. Is there anyway I can configure my router to cut back on these. Any suggestions would be helpful.
    Jesse

The DoS Protection button is enabled.
Most of them come from three ip addresses:  219.148.119.6, 219.148.119.2 and 218.55.122.213.
The description in the logs are things like "Possible DoS HGOD SynKiller Flooding",
"DoS MS-SQL Slammer Worm", "FRONTPAGE Extensions Remote Command Execution", and  "PORT_SCAN_TCP_FIN_ACK", in order of frequency of occurrence.

  • VBScript error number conversion?

    Hi,
I have a script returning an error as a large negative number and need to know how to convert it down to the nice small positive number that MSDN shows as the return values.
    Thanks!

    **Decoding Errors**
-2147220978 style numbers are 32 bit signed integers, convert to hex with calculator.
Windows errors (smallish numbers) and  COM HResults (typically, but with exceptions, start with an 8 as in 0x80040154) are defined in WinError.h, except 8007nnnn where you look up the Window error number that it contains.
As a general rule Windows errors are less than 65,535 (0xFFFF). Errors starting 0x80000001 are Component Object Model (COM) HResults. Errors starting 0xC0000001 are NTStatus results. Errors starting 0xD0000001 are also NTStatus
    values returned in a HResult.
     - **WinError** - Returned from Windows API Calls
     - **HResult** - Returned from COM calls
     - **NTStatus** - Returned from kernel and some API calls also return when
       encountering a kernel error.
NTStatus errors (typically but not always start with an C as in 0xC0000022) are defined in NTStatus.h.
.h files are the best source because it includes the symbolic name of the error which can give clues such as the source of the error. FormatMessage doesn't give the symbolic name only the description.
You get these files by downloading the Platform SDK (it's gigabytes)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx%3Fid%3D8279&sa=U&ei=w2IrULDDLsHFmAWbmIHoBg&ved=0CBwQFjAA&usg=AFQjCNHZn9-4f2NnuN9o3UWUsOF3wL7HBQ
If you just want the two files I have them on my skydrive so I can reference them anywhere I go.
    https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=E2F0CE17A268A4FA!121
Note internet errors (12,000 - 12,999) are windows errors but are specified in wininet.h also available above.
There are errors defined in other .h files. But 99% are in the three above.
**Structure of HResults and NTStatus Codes**
The most significant bit in HResults, and the two most significant bits in NTStatus are set on error. Hence Hresults start 8 on error and NTStatus starts C on Error. The next 14 or 15 bits are reserved and some specify the
facility - what area the error is in. This is the third and fourth number when reading hex. EG 0xnn07nnnn - An HResult facility code 7 is a normal Windows' error (returned from a COM program - hence it's returned as a HResult). Facility codes are defined in
Winerror.h for HResults and NTStatus.h for NTStatus codes. They are different.
    **To Decode 0x8003nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 3 means the HResult contains OLE Structured Storage errors (0x0 to 0xff). These are the same as Dos error codes. These don't seem to be in Windows' header files and the list of codes is at the end of this post.
    **To Decode 0x8004nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 4 means the HResult contains OLE errors (0x0 to 0x1ff) while the rest of the range (0x200 onwards) is component specific errors so 20e from one component will have a different meaning to 20e from another component.
This is why the source of the error is extra important for errors above 0x80040200.
    **To Decode 0x8007nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility code 7 means the HResult contains a Windows' error code. You have to look up the Windows' error code not the HResult.
To decode 0x80070002. The 0x means it's a hexadecimal number, the 8 means error, the first 7 means it a windows error, and the rest of the number, 2, is the actual Windows error.
To look up the error we need it in decimal format. Start Calculator (Start - All Programs - Accessories - Calculator) and choose View menu - Scientific, then View menu - Hex. Enter 2. Then View menu -  Decimal. It will say 2.
Start a Command Prompt (Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt) and type
        net helpmsg 2
    and it will say
The system cannot find the file specified.
or look it up in winerror.h
        // MessageId: ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND
        // MessageText:
// The system cannot find the file specified.
        #define ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND             2L
    **To Decode 0x8019nnnn Errors**
HResults with facility 0x19 are HTTP errors. Codes under 16,384 (0x4000) are the same as HTTP errors, eg HTTP status 404: The requested URL does not exist on the server is 0x80190194 (0x194 = 404). Codes 16,384 and higher are BITS specific.
    **To Decode 0xDnnnnnnn Errors**
HResults starting 0xD are an HResult with a NTStatus value in it. Just cange the lead D to a C and treat as an NTStatus (Hresult = NTStatus OR 10000000).
**Dos Error Codes (for 0x8003nnnn errors)**

  • Disappearing Tables in Terminal Server after reboot/log off

After installing Crystal Report in Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server, I can stand in front of the server (as administrator) AND/OR Terminal into the machine as administrator and create reports.
Once I log off my TS session (or reboot the machine), I can stand in front of the server (as administrator) and create reports BUT NOT Terminal into the machine as administrator and create reports.
When I Terminal in, I select my ODBC source, log into it, then I go to add table via Data Explorer.  I see them get added, but once I close the Data explorer POOOF, the tables disappear.  I also get a "Dos error." when trying to open an already written report that uses the same (now buggy after reboot/log off) ODBC source.
I have absolute full permissions to every single file on the server (and the data source server for that matter).  I'm thinking that the ODBC source (a MAS server) likes me for a while, especially after I do the install, but after I log back into the server via a Terminal Session, it dislikes me for some reason.  On a side note the connection tests good either way I go into the server.
    Please help.

    Hello,
If you are using a MAS server then you may also be using a MAS ODBC Drvier? If so please contact Sage for support.
As a quick test, try copying over the Xtreme MDB sample database and use Microsofts Access ODBC driver to see if it is a CR issue or ODBC driver issue.
Sometimes a Repair install can fix these issues also.
And you never said what version of Cr you are using and if any patches are installed?
    Thank you
    Don

  • Adobe Air V16 - Win 7 /64

    Hey guys,
    I'm looking to share about
    a HP Gaming Computer -
    M/B  - Setup with 12 g ram and a 2.8 Ghz 6 core chip.
    A fast machine.
Updated with latest windows security updates.
I have not been able to get Adobe Air to function since August purchase.
Programs tell the same story - Over and over again.
    Program Installer corrupted.
    I've worked through the steps.
    Cleaning AA off the machine.
Cleaning off all the program copies.
Running the registry clean up tools.
Running the Dos error check for a possible windows installer error issue.
Finding particularly a utility that referred to making sure the windows
    installer issue would be handled.
    The same error message.
The install is damaged - go to the supplier.
The suppliers seem to think - it is my machine.
    There have been different programs.
    And
The programs do not like to open.
    Extract, Click the action icon.
    Open the file to run.
    Set to the preference screen.
    Install.
    Error message.
Same point in time - repeatedly.

For install issues, we always request the corresponding log files. That, plus a host of additional install troubleshooting information, is at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403150.html. Could you please attach the installer's log here.

  • Jdk won't run

Having successfully installed jdk1.3.1 on windows 98, set and checked the classpath variables correctly, I get bad command from the dos prompt when I try to run the javac command. I also get the same message when I try it without the classpath set.

Your post says you set Classpath, but this appears to be a Path problem. Bad command or file name is a DOS error that means DOS can not find the file name that you typed in the command line. Most people add tthe directory where javac.exe and java.exe are.to their Path setting (not Classpath). Typically, that directory is c:\jdk1.3.1\bin.
For Windows 98, you can go to the Start Menu, select Run and enter sysedit. The autoexec.bat file will be displayed. Add a line to the end of autoexec.bat:
    set Path=c:\jdk1.3.1\bin;%path%
(using whatever path you have on your system). Save your changes and your done.

  • Can I install BDK on Win 2000

Hey, I tried to install BDK1.1 on Win 2000 but I encountered plenty of problems
    1. Cannot find JVM during installation
sol: I select java.exe from jdk directory manually
    2. after install, cannot makeApplet, always give the IO exception when I try to makeApplet from BeanBox. Anyone knows the reasons
    Thanks

    Hi,
I like to elaborate my problems further. pls advise
I try to install DBK1.1 and i encountered some problems.
    1. During installation, JVM cannot be located and I manually choose
    java.exe at c:\jdk1.3.1_02\bin\java.exe
    2. after installation, i execute Beanbox and problems arise
    when I select makeApplet.
makeApplet process is not sucessfully and I receive the following error message.
    a. error dialog box
    "java.io.IOException: compilation failed!
    while generating data for MyApplet"
    b. DOS error message
"WARNING: Could not Runtime.exec<String> "javac" in the standard way: java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: javac -classpath tmp\myApplet\myApplet_files;classes;.;..\lib\methodtracer.jar:..\infobus.jar -nowarn tmp\myApplet_files\MyApplet.java error=2
Check that the version of "javac" that you are running is the one supplied with Sun's JDK1.x <which includes the compiler classes> and not some other version of "java" or JRE shipped with some other product."
How do I solve the above problems?
