Hello All,
We're trying to install and configure an MSE 7.3 integrated with an Cisco PI 1.3.
I have a question about adding the "data points" :
Does it really requires to add the points one by one and turning around the audit laptop ?
We have a big site and it will take a really long time.
What is the best practice for this ?
Is there any other tool or option here to speed up the process ?

MSE Upgrade Question

Greetings,
I am planning on upgrading my MSE from 7.2.110.0 to 7.4.110.0 so I can upgrade to Cisco Prime Infrastructure. After reading the release notes, step 1 has me wondering what data will be lost. See below.
"Step 1 Back up the existing database using the Prime Infrastructure. (We recommended this.)
All data existing on the system will be lost and a fresh blank database will be created."
What I am wondering is will all the configuration of MSE be lost as well such as network settings? If I attempt to do this remotely will I lose my ability to connect to it?

Thanks you for posting the link to the matrix. I was also looking at "Table 1     - AireOS Wireless LAN Controller Software Release Compatibility Matrix" on the same link but more at the top. I see now above this martix is states "
This matrix should not be used to get compatibility information between other products, for example, Cisco Prime Infrastrucutre compatibility with Cisco MSE. For compatibility information between other products, see the respective matrices in this document" So I goofed there.
The way I read it is it states I need to upgrade MSE to 7.4.110.0 for Prime 2.0. Now looking at the table in the link you sent just makes me more confused as what I need to do. Let me breakdown what versions I have currently.
WLC - 7.4.110.0 - Good for Prime 2.0 according toTable 6     Cisco Prime Infrastructure Compatibility Matrix
NCS - 1.1.1.24
MSE - 7.2.110.0 - Good for Prime 2.0 according toTable 6     Cisco Prime Infrastructure Compatibility Matrix
AP IOS - 15.2(2)JB2$
The point of me doing these upgrades is to get off of NCS and get onto Prime 2.0. Do you think I should just install Prime 2.0 and see how it goes at this point? I think I am ok now that I have read the matrix over. Thanks again.

Questions about 3702i and WSM (WSSI)

I have several questions about the 3702i AP and the WSM that do not seem to be answered in the data sheets/documentation.
Any insight would be appreciated.
1. Is the WSM officially supported on the 3702 AP? The documentation seems to conflict on this.
For example, at the top of the WSM data sheet: "Flexible add-on third radio module for the Cisco Aironet 3600i or Cisco Aironet 3600e Series Access Points". Then later on in the page graphic shows the 3700 series radios too. I have found multiple pages that have similar conflicting information.
2. Can the WSM be used WITHOUT MSE and Cisco Prime? If so, are there any limitations?
3. How does the licensing work? Where is the license installed -- WLC, MSE, Prime? Do ANY of the features work without the license?
3a. How do you order the license? The SKU listed on the data sheet (L-WIPS-MM-1AP) is not a valid part number in CCW.
4. Is it possible to do sniffing with a WSM? (the idea being not having to dedicate an AP to sniffing, or taking down a client-serving AP to sniff)

Ok, so you are talking about off-channel scanning, which is actually a very short duration 50ms, that the AP is actually off-channel to scan.

Access points with wireless security module: The Cisco Aironet® Access Point Module for Wireless Security aggressively scans all channels without affecting the data-serving radios in the 2.4- and 5-GHz bands.
To me, that's just saying that the WSM is scanning and not interferring with the AP's normal radios.

MSE location problem in WCS map

Hi,
I've Installed a MSE context aware services 6.0.103 and WCS 6.0.196.0 plus loaction license in a Campus with 4 WLC in 2 buildings, every buildings has 3 floor, i configure the WCS and associate the campus to MSE engine, I syncronize it with controllers and It works, but only for the ground floor of the buildings, on the other floor there are many clients but they are not visible on WCS map, I can view associated clients only on the groundfloor maps, and i check the properties of every floor but they are the same.
any ideas?

Are the groundfloors all covered by APs on the same controller(s) and maybe the other floors covered by APs on different controllers?
Or are the same controllers having APs on either the groundfloor and other floors?
I am asking this because we may be running into a situation where the MSE doesn't correctly communicate with the controllers managing APs (and clients) on the floors where you can't see anything.
Also, is the MSE license having still free slots, or is the license limit completely consumed by all the clients in the groundfloors?
This can be verified in WCS under
Services > Mobility Services > [your MSE] > Context Aware Service > Administration> Tracking Parameters
After these first checks, I'd also verify the following:
1. The client on a specific floor should show up on the WLC under
show client detail
2. The same client should show up on WCS through a search for its MAC address.
Is the WCS pointing you to a specific map location for this client?
3. In WCS, under Monitor > Maps, do you see a client count higher than zero for those floors where you can't display clients?
4. In the floor map view of WCS, could you please confirm that you checked the "Clients" box and that in its properties you also selected "Show All Clients"?
I understand these may sound like obvious steps, but I'd prefer not to neglect anything.

Wireless Migration from WCS to NCS and MSE/WLC 7.0.230 to 7.2.110.0

Hello,
I'm in the process of ripping out all of my wireless network and putting a new one in and have a couple of questions regarding code compatibility between the NCS, WLC, and MSE.
My current infrastructure consists of Wism running 7.0.230.0 code, WCS 7.0.230.0 code, and MSE 7.0.230.0 code. I am planning on migrating my WCS over to NCS 1.1.1.24 while maintaining the 7.0.230.0 code on my WiSM and MSE. Does anyone know if this will function properly and maintain location services?
Also, I am going to be replacing my MSE (3350) 7.0.230 code with redundant MSE (3355) 7.2.110.0 code running high availability. Will I be able to import the backups/config from the 7.0.230 code onto the 7.2.110.0 new servers? Or would it be better for me to load my new servers (3355) with 7.0.230 code, import the backups, and then proceed with the upgrade to 7.2.110.0. What is the best way to migrate my CAS licenses over to the new servers?

As far as the MSE, I would probably downgrade it to 7.0.230.0 and then import the backup and then upgrade. I guess you can just try it at first if you want, it won't hurt. You can always clear it and then downgrade if you want.

Unable to Track Clients - MSE 7.4 and PI 1.3

Hi Guys,
I have just setup a new PI 1.3 and MSE 7.4.100 and 5508 7.3
My WLC is added into PI and is "reachable"
My MSE is added into PI is reachable and is sync'ed
The CAS on MSE is showing as up
I have added maps and coverage areas and the sync status is good
i am running on the demo licenses for now so dont think that this is my problem?
i know that i have wireless clients in range of the access points but i am unable to tack any clients.
i must of missed something for my setup to work.
Can anyone think of anything that i can check please as i am not at a loss..

Take a look at the application sizing. This will tell you what you need to have in order for your license to actually activate.

WCS MSE Help

I’m trying to synchronize one of our switches with the WCS/MSE (Version 6 on the WCS). I’ve added it onto the WCS and the MSE says it synchronizes properly but when I go into the SERVICES/MOBILITY SERVICES and look at the switch it is just showing the IP address. It’s not showing any of the ports or any information at all on the switch. I have the RW snmp string for the switch. Any ideas?

Switch Port Trace
The Switch Port Trace page allows you to run a trace on detected rogue access points on the wire.
To correctly trace and contain rogue access points, you must correctly provide the following information.
•Reporting APs—A rogue access point has to be reported by one or more managed access points.
•AP CDP Neighbor—Access point CDP neighbor information is required to determine the seed switches.
•Switch IP address and SNMP credentials—All switches to be traced must have a management IP address and SNMP management enabled. You can add network address based entries instead of only adding individual switches. The correct write community string must be specified to enable/disable switch ports. For tracing, read community strings are sufficient.
•Switch port configuration—Trunking switch ports must be correctly configured. Switch port security must be turned off.
•Only Cisco Ethernet switches are supported.
•Switch VLAN settings must be properly configured.
•CDP protocol must be enabled on all switches.
•An Ethernet connection must exist between the rogue access point and the Cisco switch.
•You should have some traffic between rogue access points and the Ethernet switch.
•The rogue access point must be connected to a switch within the max hop limit. The default hop count is 2, and the maximum is 10.
•If SNMPv3 is chosen, use the context option and create one for each VLAN, in addition to the one for the main group (which is required for non-VLAN-based MIBs).
Follow these steps to specify options for switch port tracing.

After you meet all requirements the logs are your best bet for determining why it is not working. They are usually pretty good at leading you to the problem.
You would go to Administration > Logging and uncheck Status Polling, Configuration, SNMP Mediation, MSE/Location Servers, XML
Mediation, Navigator, Reports and Database Administration and change the message level to TRACE and click submit. Go back and recreate the issue
and then go back to the logging area and download the logs.
If you get the logs right after the test it should be in the wcs-0-0.log file and you will want to go from the bottom up and search for something like "
Switch port tracing failed". Around there will be why it failed.

NB505 question

hi folks i have a netbook nb505...a few questions if i may....is ther any scan that i can do that would tell me what drivers are out fo date and how to update them?..on my sreen i have a faint gray line going from top to bottom about a half inch wide .how would i fix this? wuld a restore fix it ?one last thing what do you folks use for an antivirus that protects and does slow the netbook down thx mk

Hi When asking for help, post your full model number found on the bottom of your laptop. I'm not sure what the gray line is. A up date display driver might help. You can find all your drivers for your Toshiba hereWhen you restore back to factory, your PC is restored just like it was the first day you tured it on.. When you restore to an earlier time, you restore to the date you choose.
Use Safe Mode to perform a system restore
Windows includes a utility called System Restore that can help with many problems. While this won't alter or remove any of your personal files, it will roll back your system settings and files to an earlier date. We'll use this to attempt to fix Windows.
Open the Start Menu.
Type "System Restore" in the search field.
Press ENTER.
Press "Next" in System Restore.
A list of restore points will be displayed along with the date and time they were created.
Select the most recent restore point.
Press Next to continue with the restore.

Documentation for MSE 7.3.101.0 & Services...

Hey guys-
Just did an upgrade on a MSE from 7.2.110.0 to 7.3.101.0. This image upgraded my Context Aware Services from 7.2.1.54 to 7.3.0.40 and upgraded my WiPS from 1.0.3010.0 to 1.0.4038.0.
Question is.... where do I find the configuration guides for these versions? I'm on the Cisco Configuration Guides page for the MSE 3355 and the only versions displayed are 7.2.103.0 & 7.4.100.0 (for both services).
Any recommendations on what CG I should be using? Or where might I find the appropiate documentation or CG?

You need to reference the code you upgraded the MSE to not the CAS or wIPS version. Anywho... The Prime will manage all that anyways so that's where the configuration needs to be configured.

MSE Recovery, Licensing Problem

Hi All, in a customers MSE 3310 one Harddisk failed. The Customer tried to boot it with a Rescue Linux and took a Backup from the 2nd HD (not with the WCS). After RMA his Licenses are lost and the MSE is running now in Evaluation Mode. He tried to install the Old .lic File (taken from the Backup) but failed with a "Platform UDI doesn't match licensing file UDI." message. The Customer said that he hasnt registerd a PAK or didnt get any lic Files, i think that there is an Option to purchase the MSE with all Licenses needed.
The Question is, how can we get the MSE work with all original Licenses (1000 CAS, 10 wips)? Is there a way to do that via the TAC Licensing Team?

Use the following URL if you have the PAK or licenses associated with your CCO id "http://www.cisco.com/go/license". If not, please open an SR with TAC so that it can get routed to licenses team. The UDI are different since you have a replacement unit and requires the licenses to be re-hosted with the current UDI.
When opening the TAC SR, be clear that all you need is the license file to be rehosted with the UDI for the MSE appliance so it gets routed to Licensing team.

Can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) configured to work with non-cisco access points?

I understand that access points can be configured to forwards all the probe requests to cisco wifi controller. cisco MSE(mobility service engine) gets the probes from wifi controller to find the location of the mobile devices.
My question, can cisco MSE(mobility service engine) be configured to work with non-cisco access points?

No and the reason why is the NMSP communication from the MSE to the WLC. Other vendors don't support this so there is no communication happening.

MSE and Zones (Cisco Connected Mobile Experience)

I am trying to do Cisco Connected Mobile Experience work using Cisco Prime 1.3, MSE 7.4, WLC 7.4 (everything virtual appliance) and Meridian App.
It is working well, but although I have configured some zones on Cisco Prime, it is not shown on MSE and Meridian.
What can be happening? Why aren't zones shown?

MSE 3355 / PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE 2.1

I'm integrating a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 with MSE 3355 for location services and wIPS. I have several questions that I could not clear and would like you to help me giving me some indication with the steps I must take to fulfill these tasks.
1- The Maps added to the CI 2.1 are not showing the location of the Rogue APs and Rogue Clients seen in the network.
2.- The AP Clients location is not showed in the Maps.
3. I require to know what is the process for classifying Rogue APs in the PI 2.1.
5. I get the message "Collection Failure" of three WLC in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure but the data that the message shows is collected normally.

I have already resolved this two points:

Cisco WLC with Bonjor services - MSE 3310 compatibility

Hi All,
We have a Cisco WLC 5508 currently running on code 7.2. We have Cisco MSE 3310 appliance (which is EoS & EoS) and it is running on code 7.2 as well.
Now, we want to implement Bonjor Gateway services to support Apple Services such as Apple TV, Apple Printer etc.
My understanding is that in order to deploy Bonjour gateway the controller needs to be at least on version 7.4.
I can upgrade the Controller Code, but I need to know the compatibility between Cisco WLC code 7.4 (7.4.100.0) with Cisco MSE 3310 code (7.3.101.0, as it the highest code available). MSE 3310 appliance compatibility with WLC Code 7.4 ?
I checked the Cisco Software Compatibility Matrix, and it's not clear at all.

If you really want to keep everything compatible, you might want to look at another route, like using Avahi as an mDNS gateway. Take a look at this document... there are other mDNS gateways out there which can work, but this doc is strictly for the Avahi:
