My bad Apple experiences...

Presently, I have just over a year old iPod and today they tell me "its dead."
Basically the last few weeks it hasn't worked and I would get lucky if I could get a song to play for a 5 seconds. So I decided to take it in and the weird (punk dressed) guy that waited on me appeared to have less of a clue than me. He just suggested restoring it and I have tried that but whenever I plug it into my PC, it freezes up til I take it out.
So he said he would go do it for me real fast; comes out of the back room a half-hour later with no notices at all and says that should do it; go home it and itll work. I still got the error while there but he said when I plug it in at home itll go away.
Nothing new and it still doesn't work. I get a folder with a question mark that says "www.apple.com/ipod/support"
i took it in today and the same guy tried to "help" me and said he would do it again. then he got scared so he went and had a manager or something come out and tell me that I can either 1) recycle and buy a new one or 2) try an online repair but he thinks the hd may be dead...
These guys seem like idiots with no clue.
first, does anybody have any suggestions?
second, what do you suggest I do now? anybody interested in buying it? only a year and 2 months old...i tried to get warrenty on the day it said it expired bc i put that day on my calendar to do but then they screwed me and said then that you must do it b4 the day of.....frustrated i am...

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
- I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
- I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
- I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

  • Bad Apple experience

My 5 month old iPhone quite working. I sent it in for repair. got email back informing me that my iPhone had "accidental damage" or was "misused" and they were not repairing it. they will return in in the broken state.
I did not drop it or "misuse it".
How unfair of them not to stand by their product.
We have been loyal Apple customers for years and have bought 7 apple computers during the past 4 years and were getting ready to buy an MacBook Air.
Their email is one you can not respond to. I am now left with $400 phone that does not work.
They have now lost a customer and will get a lot of bad press from me!!

I suppose everything has two sides...
If they determine that the iPhone got wet (there is a sensor inside that changes colors if it gets wet), or it has been jailbroken or SIM unlocked, they are not obligated to fix it. Similarly, if they find it has been opened in any way, it's out of warranty.
If it has a serial number that indicates it wasn't purchased at an Apple store or ATT shop, they are not obligated to honor any warranty.
Granted, I am not saying you did ANY of those things and might have just been plain old damage, so sorry to hear about the situation.
Apple isn't out to specifically "get" anyone, though, and they certainly know their business well enough to determine the source of the problems. They probably get thousands of iPhones a day to repair and very very few are not covered.
As to bad press, not sure anyone will really listen to your plight. Good luck.

  • Why my iPhone 5 had bad ear experience while on phone, like a pressure on plane. Please help.

Why my iPhone 5 had bad ear experience while on phone, like a pressure on plane. Please help.

The sudden silence in one ear caused by the iPhone 5's noise cancellation in a noisy environment may remind you of a plane trip with a blocked Eustachian tube but it's not doing anything to your ear.  Ir's just that hearing background noise in only one ear makes you think there is something wrong.  It should make it easier to hear the phone.
If you don't like the effect, try holding a finger over the rear microphone (between the camera and flash).

  • BAD APPLE - THIS STINKS - APERTURE NO MORE!

This is really horrible news. The way Apple has treated the Pro market is disheartening. I have built my business (plug ins, training, etc..) around Aperture and Apple is simply abandoning us. And don't feed us the line that all this will be handled in the new Photos app, because I guarantee Photos will be used to satisfy the majority of consumers, not the professional market.
This really is one BAD APPLE. You ruined my vacation with this announcement.
    http://www.macrumors.com/2014/06/27/aperture-development-stops/

I've been using Media Pro 1 as my primary DAM (digital asset management) application and iPhoto for special projects, i.e. books, calendars, etc.
FWIW if anyone decides to migrate to another DAM application and is interested in migrating to MP1 I've created a tutorial on how to  do just that.  It involves writing the metadata to the original/master files in the iPhoto/Aperture library with MP1 prior to migrating the Event folders out to another location for use with MP1: iP03 - Converting an iPhoto Library to a Media Pro Catalog System
There's a forum, The DAM Forum - Index - The DAM Book, that has sub forums for the various DAM apps including Media Pro. You can find out more about the various top DAM apps there.

  • Where do we post issues about bad apple customer support

where do we post issues about bad apple customer support?

Well, these are user-to-user forums. I'm not sure that posting complaints about Apple customer support here would be a) productive (what can we really do?) and b) acceptable under the terms of use, though I'm not sure. My inclination would be to write a letter directly to Apple. Even in this email age, "real" letters seem to command more attention.
    Best of luck.

  • HT3591 I was about to download (buy) some music from ITunes when they said I had to answer these security questions, however I've never answered in my hole apple experience which has left me unable to buy anything because I don't know my security question

I was about download music when it then asked me for my security questions. The problem for me is that I've never answered these questions ever in my hole apple experience and even if I did, I've 100% completely forgot about them. I then decided to email a link to deactivate my questions however this email from Apple had never come, I'm know left unable to download music, apps, and books.

You need to manage your Apple ID and change your security question there.

  • How to lodge a complaint for bad Apple store experience

    Hi
I had the worst experience of the lifetime with Apple store in Castle Hill Tower Sydney on 23/4/15. The Manager on duty (Mr Steve who refused to give his last name or employee number)  was very arrogant and gave very insulting treatment. When I asked that I want to complain about him, the Manager behaved as if nobody was going to take any action against him (welcome this is Apple - sic)
I want to know how to lodge a complaint against Apple bad customer service.I checked Apple website which to my astonishment did not give any easy option for mailing complaints.
Can anybody tell me where to lodge complaints. Thanks.

  • MAC PRO USB Problem - Traced to bad Apple Keyboard Extension Cable

I found a fix to a problem synching to my itunes Library on my early 2008 MAC PRO.   The Apple supplied USB extension cable for the keyboard was defective.
The symptoms were hangs in itunes and finder synching to iPods and transferring data to USB hard drives. The iPods and hard drives never lost power and no errors/log entries were made. The transfers simply stalled and would not continue. itunes and finder would hang until the drive or ipod was removed. These devices were installed directly to USB ports on the MAC PRO. No other USB devices were connected except for the aluminum keyboard and mighty mouse; the mouse was connected to the keyboard. The keyboard was connected using the USB extension cable that shipped with the MAC PRO.
Hardware diagnostics were all clear. The keyboard and mouse never had any connection problems. Only itunes syncs and hard drive copies would fail; these would occur at random times. I had an open ticket with Apple to have the logic board replaced as it was diagnosed to be a hardware/USB problem.
Removal or replacement of the extension cable on the keyboard (which was connected to a different USB port and NOT in the USB chain with the ipod and hard drives) permanently fixed the problem. I cancelled the Apple HW replacement.
I have noted several posts with others having problems with USB ports and devices. I wonder if Apple has an unknown problem with bad keyboard extension cables.

I think you may be onto something there. I'm just a few weeks into my second Mac Pro and again it's having the same USB problems which led Apple to give me a replacement machine previously. I went through several weeks of considerable testing with Apple Engineers prior to that - an Apple Care application to collect data from my machine, Apple Developer USB prober and two clean installs. The latest machine initially showed no sign of the problem then it started again - 2 iPods "can not be read or written to" part way through sync, Aperture quitting importing from USB SD card reader, USB drives dismounting etc. So I pulled out the Aluminium keyboard and, lo and behold, the iPods managed to get all the way through synching without errors. I really like the alu keyboard so it's a huge shame that it might be the cause of all my problems so far - and the Mac Pro is otherwise a beautiful computer.
But is this really a hardware problem of the internal USB cards and power management or supply?

  • ITunes 10.5 Ruins Apple Experience

I have not been using Apple products for very long, (approximately 2 years) but I think I know enough of the actual experience consumers are supposed to receive and the problem with iTunes 10.5 is NOT one of them.  I bought my first Apple iPod Touch in July, and I made an account with Apple, thinking I'd only use it in emergencies.  However, downloading iTunes 10.5 SHOULD NOT count as an emergency, and SHOULD NOT be too difficult for Apple to fix.  Yes, you're all about Apple products, and I get that I really do, but you cannot just leave Windows users to figure it out on their own.  I read from many others that they've contacted support and was just told to "Uninstall, reinstall, everything should be fine".  What I've also read from the SAME people is that it DOES NOT work.  I've been trying to fix it all afternoon and evening yesterday.  I'm just a high school student, and I'm sick and I had to stay home from school.  I DID NO HOMEWORK WHATSOEVER because of such a problem.  I tried everything I could do.  I uninstalled and reinstalled just to make matters WORSE.  Now I had to look through my registry for a key that I do not have sufficient access to.  Everytime I gained access for a specific key, iTunes says I did not have access for ANOTHER key, et cetera.  I had to give myself access to different keys, and it was such a long and tedious task.  By the way, I did NOT get iTunes to work.  I went through 13 keys before I just quit on such a stupid problem.
Now that I'm done complaining, may I ask if anyone has fixed the problem?  I'm getting the problem where it says I don't have sufficient access to a certain key in Components in regedit.  I tried using Apple Software Update, but it said it couldn't install, and told me to go to tools and download only and install manually (I'm going to try it when its finished).  I know someone has fixed the problem, I just want that person(s) to share.
And is Apple doing anything to fix the problem?
PS: I've also tried using my old itunes64setup.exe for older versions, but guess what?  I can't even get iTunes to install.
I am running a Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Operating System on my Samsung QX410 Laptop.
I have had no other operating systems prior to my current one.

Had same problems here this morning, but it eventually fixed itself. There seems to have been a lot of problems with Apple ID logins, perhaps things overloaded with the iTunes Match service just being launched in new parts of the world.
My advice is not to do anything, especially don't change your Apple ID password as this leads to even more problems with other devices and services! I know its hard but being patient is the best approach.

  • Displeased with apple experience

So I decided to buy an Ipod touch, it's been little over a week since I got it and I then itunes told me ios 5 was available for my ipod touch 4g, I started the update around 8pm on sunday and after a while it got stuck on the apple logo screen and the loading bar almost full but it wouldnt move any more while itunes saying "restoring ipod software" I thought it was normal and that the proccess it was just taking a little longer but 2 hours passed and nothing, I left it over night which it doesnt make any sense for an update to make you wait hours to be applied and next morning it was still the same, the bar didnt move, itunes still saying the same, restoring ipod software, I searched the forums, googled it, lots of people with the same issue and not only with ipod but iphones and ipads too and the worst thing, no solution to be found, not a single word from Apple! great! you guys are great!
So I ended up unpluging my ipod which I'm pretty sure this will cause permanent damage in the long term since itunes warned me about not to disconnect the device while the sync was being done and it also messed up my computer which it wouldnt shut down because itunes couldnt be closed, I spent hours trying to get an answer but I didnt find anything and I can see that more and more people keep posting asking for help regarding the same problem and still not a word from apple! It took me several attemps to get itunes to do something with my dead ipod, it finally recognized it as an ipod in recovery mode and then it did the sync and finally installed ios 5 but like I said I had to unplug and unplug my ipod several times before it worked which i think it is the most stupid thing since I paid enough for this thing to be having these kind of issues. Obviously people at apple dont care about costumers at all.

After that I called back and had to go through the entire process again, only to end up at a "I'm sorry, but it's been 90 days since original purchase so we can not help you, please go to an actual Apple Store or Authorized Retailer and ask them."
TL;DR: Logic board died twice, bad RAM and bad SSD on initial shipment, two repairs and I still have a FireWire and display issue. Calling Apple up I am first hung up on then told I am past 90 days so they can't help.
Any suggestions AT ALL about what to do or how to handle this? I need this computer for college and it is my only one. I bought it to last me throughout, but I hardly have faith in it anymore. Is there a way I can get a replacement or what?
    Thanks.
You got a bad rep. My wife had a similar issue with her Macbook several years ago, the rep flat-out refused to talk to her unless she gave over her CC#.  She explained the issue (bad screen) and the guy refused, twice.  She called later and spoke to someone in their customer relations department and the issue was sorted out there.  The rep we spoke to conceded that the previous rep was completely in the wrong if it is a hardware issue that is covered under our warranty.
Apple's standard warranty includes 90 days of software support and a year of hardware coverage. I'd call back and ask to speak to a supervisor or customer relations, they have the authority to fix issues like this.  Good luck.

    BUT HEAR ME OUT
To all the upstanding apple faithfull. I would rather apple match the $100 dollars & give it to charity ITS NOT ABOUT THE MONEY BUT THE WAY THEY HAVE DONE IT......i don't care how many apple products you own.... i don't care how long you have been on this forum... the one thing i have learned is most NOT ALL apple owners will not have anything bad said against apple...I may not be as clever (you think)as you lot but i know right from wrong... but buying apple products aint that smart.

  • Bad Apple Specific Earphones

I don't blame Apple for making the iphone earphone jack incompatable with just about every existing earphone jack/cable on the market. Even though it's really annoying.
The assumption is that Apple wants to make money by making the jack proprietary, so it's puzzling why they have yet to come out with a decent splitter (for example) that will accomodate 2 headphones since sometimes two people like to listen.
Why make a proprietary jack and NOT sell anything to use with it?

    Scott,
Monster has come out with a splitter that is carried by the Apple Store Online.
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=DD0 28CD1&nplm=TN550LL/A
In addition the store carries the Belkin adapter to which you could connect any splitter with a 3.5 mm headphone connector:
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=DBA 24138&nplm=TN546LL/A
There is also the Shure adapter that includes a Mic. You could attach any splitter to that as well.

  • Positive Apple experience

Good morning all. I just wanted to let you guys know that I had a great experience with the Apple store in the Westfarms Mall in Connecticut. I had some issues with my iphone (what appeared to be cracks in the acrylic near the camera, and some other questions I had). With no problems they replaced my phone , were very courteous and understanding, and not once made me feel like I was nit picking. I would like to also add that I work with acrylic on a daily basis and the "cracks" that I am referring to in my situation looked more like stress marks to me from when they polish the back of the acrylic which may or may not be seen at the time of assembly and shipment. I did not notice mine until I was at the shore in the sun and just happened to rotate my phone in the right direction to notice them.

For the most part, I've had great consumer service experiences at Apple stores as well. I live in NYC and the 3 stores here in the city are crazy packed with people. It must be very stressful and exhausting for the employees, but the seem to handle it pretty well.

  • My MBP (Apple) experience...

    I have had a week 12 and week 13 2.16GHz MBP.
So far I've had mixed feelings.
When I first came in to the store a seller said they shouldn't have the whine and if it will they will replace it, I figured I had nothing to loose.
Two days later I called them and asked if the heat was normal, they said no, I came to a genius and he swapped it without even looking at my machine. He told me if I get the whine problem again, I shouldn't worry, as Apple is working on a update that will fix this. I was amazed, now I understood Apple has great customer service!
    But boy was I wrong...
Next day, I come in saying the problem's even worse now. My first MBP was much better than the one I have now. The Genius I got was a complete jackas_. Basically, he wasted my time running a DVD on my MBP, when my MBP got hot (up to a point where you can't keep your finger on it) he just said that it is normal and that his Powerbook does the same thing. For the most he just wasted his and my time running a DVD just to say it's all normal. I asked him about the whine and he said that it's also within specs, he also said that whoever said that Apple was working on a fix is wrong. He told me that if I get a replacement right now, I won't be able to get anymore replacements for a problem, he said he would put it in the computer notes.
When I said I want a replacement he just laughed, but then I ended up taking credit, I'll wait for a later MBP. To me it seems Apple has 3-stage selling: 1st they say if anything is wrong they will replace it. 2nd they replace it with no questions asked. 3rd they say everything is actually fine and within specs.
So, what do you guys think I should do? Is this fair how they treated me? First they treat me nicely, but than if I demand too much they get me to a horrible Genius? Where should I call Apple to complain about this, Customer Relations? Do they have the right to stop me from replacements?

This is really odd. I think Apple is overwhelmed with repairs or replacements at this time. I called recently because I had the CPU whine, had the inverter replaced to take care of that issue. They actually had a recording of both the CPU Whine and The Display Inverter Whine. The CSR played both for me and asked me which one I had. I said the first one which was the CPU whine. He then said that is "normal". I said to who me or Apple? He said Apple. It is not as bad as when I first had it. The inverter whine is gone, and the cpu whine is very subtle now. I just hung up ...
I think it's time for Apple to admit the problem to us all.
