My Router Stats Show My Wife's Computer As Mine!?
I have a G3 iMac connected by ethernet cable to my router and an Intel iMac connected wirelessly.
My router has always shown them both as "ian-browns-imac", which was perfectly correct.
However, I have just completely erased the G3 and installed the OS afresh using just my wife's details.
To my surprise, instead of seeing "jacqui-browns-imac", it still appears as "ian-browns-imac".
Can anyone explain this weird state of affairs?
What do you mean by that?
As mentioned I have switched off and restarted the router.
Incidentally this is how I have my sharing windows configured for both iMacs.

Want to enhance wifi strength - router in one room, wifi capable computer in another
I need to enhance the wifi signal in my home in order to utilize a wifi ready computer on another floor. The wifi indicates 2 out of 5 bars on the wifi indicator, but frequently loses the signal completely. I have several coaxial ports around the house and have heard that there is an old school Motorola device out there that I can use to boost the wifi signal.
I am using the router in the room where the fios wire enters the residence and want to leave it there....any suggestions?The "old school Motorola" device is MoCA bridge. It will provide an Ethernet port active on your LAN anywhere you have coax. You'd then need to plug a WiFi access point or router into the Ethernet port.
Or, you could pickup an old Actiontec WiFi router online and use it as a single bridge and access point.
There are lots of discussions of how to do this in these forums. Spend some time searching and looking around and you'll find them.

Network Computer shows on everyone's computer but mine (their computers do show on mine)
So 3 of us are all running Windows 8.1 Pro, one of the computers is even identical to mine. When I have the Wifi on I find I do not see my fathers computer on the network to enable me to transfer files back and forth to him. His computer does however show
on everyone elses computer. I am able to see and connect and transfer to the other 2 computers so its an issue specifically between my comp and his. I have remoted into his computer before using his IP but i would like to be able to access it from the menu
in windows file explorer.
Thank you!I would open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security and see if there are any differences in the configuration between the computer where it does work and your computer. Specifically ensure
that the File and Printer Sharing group is configured with the same rules for the currently selected profile.
You should also attempt to connect to the file share that is available from your father’s computer. Open File Explorer and type in
\\dns-name-or-ip-address\shared-folder.
You may also want to clear any saved credentials from Credential Manager to ensure that your connection is not using the wrong user or password to connect to his computer.

Finding my password connecting to my wife's computer
When I connect to my wife's computer from mine, sometimes I get a window wanting me to enter my password. I've tried entering my best guess, but that doesn't work, so I reboot, and apparently connect fine. When I guess, I don't tell it to save the password in keychain. Both of our computers use Mavericks. Sometimes I get a message saying I can't connect when her computer is sleeping. But sometimes I can't connect when she's using her computer.
How do I find my password - is it in her keychain?If you and your wife trust each other, the easiest way to do this is for you to use her username and password to connect to her computer, and for her to use your username and password to connect to yours.

See if going to System Preferences > Energy Saver and checking the box, 'Wake for network access' (on your wife's computer, and in the name of trust, yours, too) helps. -
It appears that my iPhone 5 has a wifi signal reception issue. I only show one bar on the wifi signal meter even when I an next to the router. Both my Macbook Air and my iPad2 show full wifi signals at the same time. Rebooting the Apple router and each device results in the same meter readings.
Does this occur with any Wi-Fi connection? Or only a specific one?
If it occurs with any Wi-Fi connection, take it to Apple.
If it is only occurring with a specific Wi-Fi connection, it is an issue with that Wi-Fi connection.
Try the following, it may help:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Forget the Wi-Fi connection on the iPhone then reconnect.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). -

First, please excuse me if I've posted in the wrong forum and hopefully someone will direct me to the right one. I also apologize for the length of this but I've spent the last 5 days dealing with HP support and getting help from TechGuy.org. HP hasn't been
particularly helpful. Through TechGuy.org, we've eliminated the possibility that the problem I'm about to describe is related to a virus or malware.
As this is my wife's computer, I have no idea when this started happening, but at random intervals the computer would sometimes display the message "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save
your work." Sometimes this error code accompanies the message "Error 1722 RPC Server is unavailable". Other times there is no warning and the system just reboots. At the same time, my wife began having problems with our HP Photosmart C410A printer.
In checking I saw that there was a new driver. When I attempted to install just the basic driver, the installation would stop and indicate that the Windows Firewall must be running. I disabled all of Norton Internet Services setting an tried to activate the
firewall. I would then get this error message: "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x800706d9".
HP suggested I uninstall Norton Internet Security, use the HP Driver Uninstall Utility and try a reinstallation using their complete software package while activation the Windows Firewall. I could get the firewall activated nor could I get the drivers installed.
I then removed all the HP software using their installer. However there still seems to be bits "floating" about. I reinstalled NIS.
TechGuy.org suggested that there might be a BIOS issue and there are two updates available. They also suggested I may have to wipe the drive and do a clean reinstallation of Windows 7. That just didn't sound right.
In checking the Event Viewer the following error show up repeatedly at random times, which also correspond, usually, with a reboot. Here is a partial copy of the log:

Error connecting, tap to retry, it sees my WiFi and computer name but can't connect
Hi all, I am trying to get Edge Inspect to work on my Windows 7 PC (it did work for me a few times when I had it installed as Shadow when it initally came out)
I have read through various forum posts. I am also running Mcafee Virusscan/Firewall.
In Google Chrome I have the extension installed at the little "In" symbol top right, when I click it it says Adobe Edge Inspect "On", please start the Adobe Edge Inspect Application.
I open up the lastest version of Edge Inspect (v1.0.393) on either my iPhone or iPad, it shows the name of my WiFi router and shows the name of the computer that is running Google Chrome, it looks like it is searching for a connection (shows spinner) and then it says "Error connecting, tap to retry".
I have opened up port 7682 in my Mcafee Firewall
I have shutdown all open programs
I have tried manually entering in the computer IP address via manual connect
I have updated chrome extension and ios apps to latest version
I have tried reinstalling chrome extension
I have tried at Windows Command prompt "netstat -ano" it doesnt show port 7682 being used, until I open up Google Chrome, then it shows MYCOMPUTER:7682 SYN_SENT, which I checked the PID against and yes it is Google Chrome using 7682
Any help would be greatHi again Mark, still no luck here.
I also have a Mac in my network so I thought I'd try installing to that to see what would happen, I just installed Adobe Edge Inspect extension onto Google Chrome on that machine and restarted the iOS apps on both iPad and iPhone and they actually didnt see the Mac machine at all, still just shows the PC computer.
Also did I mention on my iPad I can still see the last time the connection actually worked (when it was called Adobe shadow, on my iPad underneath MYCOMPUTERNAME Error Connecting, tap to retry it has MYCOMPUTERNAME Last Used 24/07/12 8:59PM). Wouldnt have anything to do with a conflict with the old Adobe Shadow or anything would it, I'm pretty sure Adobe Shadow got uninstalled by default anyway, just a thought.
So I'm not sure if it can be a problem with the Router because nothing has changed with the router since the last time it successfully worked when it was Shadow? I did add the Mac machine to the network since this time, but that machine hasnt been on when I have been doing any of this testing anyway.
Also in the Edge Inspect in the Chrome browser I do not see any deviced listed, but back on the iOS App I do see the Wifi network and Computer name as discussed, so does this mean its an inbound connection issue or?

My Ipod Touch Gen 5 will not show up in Itunes but it shows up under "My Computer" help!
I have a new Ipod touch gen 5. It shows up under my computer but not under devices in the side bar like it should with Itunes 11. I'm running the latest firmware for my new Itouch and the latest Itunes. I hope I don't have to uninstall my itunes as I have ALOT of music on it. I dont wanna lose it all. I'm running windows 8 and followed the tutorial to a "T" to try to fix the problem but nothing worked. I did everything except the last step. Even checking my Computer for Updates (Itunes will not run if updates to my PC are needed). Help Please!

My iPad Mini with retina display suddenly will not connect to the Internet. It shows full wifi bars, yet no web pages will load. My Internet is working with all other apple devices in my house. The iPad also no longer works with celluar data. I'm not sure what has happened. It was working fine a few hours ago. I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. Apple TV 1 is no longer showing up on my computer as a device? what do i do???
My Apple TV 1 worked fine. I'm not sure if it stopped showing up under devices on my iMac before or after I downlaoded iTunes 10 or after I changed my router, but I also have to reset my network on the TV every day or so, as it randomly stops being connected to the network.
Its a real pain and I'd love some help. I've got tons of movies and photos I used to sync to the Apple Tv, now I cant do anything as it doesnt show up on my computer!
PLEASE HELP!Finder->Preferences->General->set show according to your wants.

When i open up itunes on my computer, it says that i have 2 videos but when i sync it and check my ipod touch, it says i have no videos so it only shows up on my computer but not on my iPod touch and its a 4th Generation.

- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

IPhone 4s with ios 6 shows full wifi signal but can't access to the internet while other idevice can
Hi everyone,
I updated my iphone 4s to ios 6 a few months ago and there was no problem until I change my sim card to other carriers last two days. This second sim card is the same sim card that I used it earlier this year with no problem. But the problem I face is when my iphone goes to sleep mode I realised that I can't receive any push notification from imessage, Whatsapp, and Line. When the phone is awake the wifi signal is back and I have to go to each application in order to get the message. I have tried the following methods but it didn't work: reset all network settings, restore as new iphone, push home and power button together, switch off my iphone, turn on airplane mode, and even change my router. At the moment I have restored my iphone as new for the 5th times.
Now the problem is worsen, after the phone is sleep for about 5 minutes and when I awake my iphone it shows the wifi signal. But I can't access to the internet at all. It shows no working internet on Whatsapp. Safari can't load any web page, the weather app can't update temperature etc. I have to switch off and switch on wifi in setting menu so that I can use the internet. And when I leave my iphone four about 5 - 10 minuetes then the problem start again. While I can't access to the internet on my iphone 4s, I used my dad's iphone 4s with ios 5.0.1 and it works just fine with the internet. My laptop can also access to the internet with the same wifi network but not my iphone.
Does anybody know what's going on with my iphone 4s? Is it the bug from IOS 6 or my iphone is broken? Please help me.

The 99.99% of people who have no problems after an update won't bother to post here; indeed, most of them don't even know ASC exists. FWIW, I had no problems with iOS 7 on my 4S. Your problem is most likely not related to iOS 6, but you should probably update anyway. Contacts state showing incorrect
A lot of my contacts state show that they are online or busy or DND, For example one of my friends on Skype has gone on holiday to NYC, so there is no chance that they could be online, when somebody else happens to want to speak to me over skype (I know they're online) it will show me that theyr're offline and when I try to call, it simply does not work, just get the "Busy" message or that there is no answer and the call didn't even go through.
Any help appreciated.I had the same problem after returning from a trip to India and have tried everything to fix it. (I thought!) I just came back from the Genius Bar at the Vancouver Apple store and Alan figured it out in about 5 minutes. So simple! Go to Settings> General> Reset (at the bottom)> Reset All Settings. This restores your default settings and does not affect your data. You will have to reset desktop picture, wifi etc. but your phone numbers should be back to the proper format. I lived with it for two years but all better now! Genius indeed!
