Network Prefs not appearing...

3 Year old Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo. When I open my system preferences I can click on every preference pane and have it open except the Network Pane. When I click on it, it stays on the main panel and shows at the top that it goes to network prefs but it doesn't. If I click again on Network Preferences it will slide to a blank panel and show Network preferences on top still. It doesn't freeze or lock up the computer. If I force quit, it doesn't show the system preferences as "(Not Responding)". I tried dragging the preference file onto the desktop, that didn't do anything. Is there some kind of command line thing I can do? What's going on?

If a simple restart of the MBP does not work, try running +repair disk+ from your *software install DVD* and afterwards, run +repair permissions+ *from your HD.*

My Time Capsule's, only the 5GHz network, does not appear as a network any longer. Airport utility is 5.5.3 and iMAC is 10.7.1 The TC appears to be configured correctly in the utility screen. This began sometime after upgrade to 10.7.1 however this does not explain why either of my iPAD's does not see the 5GHz network.

Wish some Apple folks would chime in...
Apple is not here. Even if they might rarely monitor these boards, they will not respond. We're all users, just like you.
Suggest that you open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
    Click the Wireless Options button
Check one more time to see if you still have the 5 GHz Name option enabled. If not, enter a check mark and click Update to save the new settings.
If 5 GHz is enabled, temporarily disable the setting and Update. Then go back in and enable the setting again.
If you still cannot "see" the network from any device, about all that you can do at this point is reset the Time Capsule back to factory defaults and try the configuration again to see if it will "take". Lion is causing some strange issues, and this may be another.
If this is not successful, then it's time to contact Apple support or arrange a visit to an Apple store to let them take a look

Its a serious problem and many people are facing the same issue on both locked and factory unlocked phones.
I wonder when Apple will address to this issue. After all it is losing all its reputation!
See this thread, many users are encountering the same issue:

I believe its a software issue and could be solved asap Apple fixes it!

  • TS1398 Forget this network does not appear. It only allows me to join a network.

The forget this network does not appear... Only gives me option to join network.  I need to forget network. I hit the i button and it doesn't appear.

Odd...the only other thing I can suggest is to reboot the Wi-Fi network at work (if you can) and try again.
EDIT: Do you use something called Quickconnect client to setup a wireless connection? If so, this may help:
    (via Google)
To remove the wireless profile from an iOS device:
Go to Settings > General > Profiles
Select the profile you wish to remove (eduroam or UI-Wireless-Setup, for example)
    Select Remove
If asked, enter your device’s security PIN number
Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

  • Airport Connection- Network does not appear in list

I've searched through the topics and haven't seen anything exactly like my issue, but some close.
I've been ignoring this mainly due to not having the time to research, but have spent all day today to no avail.
I have a D-Link DI-514 router, my iMac is connected by ethernet, my Macbook via airport, both without issue.
My iMac however will not connect via Airport, the airport is on, but the network does not show up, in-fact no network does. However my Macbook sees 6 networks (neighbors) including mine.
The router is within a few feet of the iMac, I have moved it to various locations, still no network. I have duplicated all system preferences from the Macbook to the iMac, including Network, Sharing and Security settings.
I have booted into safe mode and back, still no network.
I began to think there must be a problem with the airport card, or an interference problem, so I booted into XP and successfully connected to my network with an "Excellent" signal, so the card works and there is no interference.
I downloaded iStumbler, on both the imac and macbook, istumbler sees no networks on the iMac, the Macbook sees 6, including mine, which it sees at 72% with 8% noise.
I've done this with both an Open Network and a WEP encrypted.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks
    Porl

The latest update fixed this for me!
    Cheers!

  • Network volumes not appearing in Time Machine

I have a netwok volume attached via Mac Mini server used for Time Machine. Recently I had a disk problem and have copied the TM backups to another drive. I have three Macs two running 10.6.8 and one running 10.5.8. Using TM on two machines (10.6.8 and 10.5.8) works fine, it connects properly and backs up, however on the third (also 10.6.8) the TM Preferences does not "see" any of the attached network volumes only the directly attached. The network volumes appear on the desktop and it is possible to read/write to the network volumes from Finder.
I have replaced the prefs file com.apple.TimeMachine.plist to no avail.
    Any suggestions most welcome.

  • Airport Network Suddenly Not Appearing

I have 3 Macs and the airport network has suddenly stopped appearing for the eMac. I've turned airport on and off and I've restarted.
My radio strenght is showing grayed out. It is not a distance issue either because nothing has moved and the eMac worked fine the day before yesterday. The other Macs in the house are fine and can see my network.
Any suggestions anyone can offer would be most appreciated.

    Hal,
There have been a number of reports about OS X 10.4.x and Airport connections being lost and/or difficult to reestablish after waking from system sleep, often fixable by turning Airport off and then back on via the menubar icon, but I don't recall any noting loss of connection during normal use. A few possibilities come to mind as starting points for further investigation. What is the WiFi signal strength at the eMac when it does establish a connection? Are there any devices like microwave ovens or 2.4GHz cordless phones located near the eMac? What is the DHCP lease time? When all computers are online, what IP numbers as assigned by the Belkin router do they show?

  • I had my iphone 3gs unlocked so i could use it in Oz, however although i can phone works ok, i cant get internet, but i the option of Cellular Data Network does not appear with the new sim? Can anyone help pls?

Hi Just wondered if anyone can help with the above question? I had O2 phone unlocked and bought a local sim card, but although the calls are fine i have no option for internet etc.  I have done searches and got the info details from the sim provider to activate, but  instructions say i go to : Settings; General; Network and then Celluar Data Network, but I dont get that option ?  When i put back my O2 sim card, the option reappears?
Can anyone help me please? Off to Australia again soon and really could do with it working properly this time.
    Thanks everyone
    Ronnie

Hi Ronnie, was wondering what brand sim card you bought?
Was it from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Virgin or Mayasim?
I have a 4 S running iOS 5.01 is there an option in Settings - Network - Carrier? As this should be set to the supplier of the sim card. In my Settings - Network there is no option for Celluar Data Network.
What version of the iOS are you using?
Some prepaid sim cards may not have a lot of data, so I suggest searching the companies websites for the best deals before you come here. Telstra usually have good plans. If you take your phone to the shop you purchased the sim card from they will usually set it up for you.
Telstra runs on a different frequency to others and offers the best coverage in Australia.
Just for the record I am not an employee of any mobile company.

  • Network users not appearing on login screen

Hi all. I have just started setting up Lion Server for my household however have a slight issue with allowing network users to logon to devices. If I allow usernames and passwords to be typed in manually then network users can login, however if I want to have them show up as users on the login screen it doesn't work.
Is there a way for network users to be visible on the login screen at all times please? There are only two network users in my house.
    Thanks,
    Jordan

See my reply here https://discussions.apple.com/message/16280642 where I previously described how to do this. You will need Workgroup Manager installed for Lion if you have not already downloaded and installed this. You can get it here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1419

  • Cisco ISE - Authentication Bullet Not Appearing on a Starting Windows Machine Connected to IP Phone

    Dears,
I have this case and I would be very thankful if someone has the answer for !
When Wired AutoConfig service is enabled on a Windows XP (or 7) station that is connected to an IP phone, the "Additional Information is needed to connect to this network" popup bullet successfully appears when the UTP cable is unplugged and then plugged back in the network card or the network adapter is disabled and re-enabled or the switchport configured with Dot1x had a shut no shut.
However, the "Additional Information is needed to connect to this network" does not appear when the Windows workstation reboots and it gets unauthenticated!
Our customer finds it a hard task to instruct his "non IT employees" to unplug the UTP cable and then plug it back or do any of the above methods in order for the authentication bullet to appear.
Does anyone know how to configure the Windows machine so that the authentication popup bullet automatically appears upon machine startup?
    Best Regards,

    Hello Neno,
I am using PEAP and below is the dot1x config under the switchport:
    interface GigabitEthernet0/4
    switchport access vlan 107
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 156
authentication event server dead action authorize vlan 107
    authentication host-mode multi-domain
    authentication order dot1x mab
    authentication priority mab
    authentication port-control auto
    mab
    dot1x pae authenticator
    dot1x timeout quiet-period 180
    spanning-tree portfast
Please note that the authentication bullet appears on a Windows PC directly connected to the switch.
The problem is when the PC is connected to an IP phone or takes too long to boot.

  • I am trying to set up Sharing amongst several computers on my home network.  I have followed all the setup instructions but after completion Sharing does not appear in my iTunes window (on any of the computers I've set up).  There is no explanation why.

I have been trying to set up Sharing between two computers on my network. I did this once and it worked.  However, when I try to set this up now the Sharing feature does not appear on the left side of the iTunes window (on either computer).  There is no explanation as to why not.  Is this a configuration problem, a network problem or what?   Can it be fixed?  I have tried turning sharing off and back on on both computers but to no avail.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hey innerev2003,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If, while searching through your past purchases, items are unavailable to download and show a "Purchased" button, they are still on your computer. It may be best to search your iTunes library by clicking Music, then use the search bar at the top right.
If you are completely sure the items are no longer in your library, try signing out of the iTunes Store, and then back in.

  • Time Capsule does not appear in iPhone 4 wifi network setting

I just set up Time Capsule on my IMac.  I was able to connect to the wifi network but do not see the TC on my phone's wifi network settings. I have the Airport Utility app and I do not see my phone on the any of the Airport utility maps on the Mac or phone.  I tried to set up my IPad 3 and no luck it only recognizes the wifi network and not TC.
I tried to use the demo that appears on Apple's TC info link and I do not see the same info on my phone when following the directions. I am a new IMac user my be I have a setting wrong. Please help.
    http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/wireless.html

The iOS devices seem to have issues if the wireless name is AFP type..
I suggest you go back into the TC setup.. you may need to use 5.6 utility.. to get finer controls.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Change the wireless name to short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. I also recommend a different name for 5ghz wireless in the advanced wireless page.
Set the wireless to fixed, a/n -  b/g
And then lock the wireless channel.. for 2.4ghz, set to 1, 6 or 11 in turn as the only non-overlapping channels.

  • Ios6 - wifi log in does not appear for secured network

    Hi,
I installed ios6 on my ipad2 last night.
Today - when I connect to a secure wifi network via settings, the log in screen does not appear, like it used to do automatically.
Is this an issues with the OS? Can anyone suggest a fix or a solution?
    Thanks in advance

I still haven't resolved this. At present, the wifi is visible - but the log on screen does not pop-up, so I am unable to log on.
    Anyone have any fixes/solutions?
    Thanks
