Newbie confusion over launching VBox Guest Services.

Hi all,
This is my first time of installing Arch Linux as a guest using Virtual Box on a Mac. I have followed the instructions set out in the Wiki section for VBox.
The following excerpt below had me a confused for a while.
All these features can be enabled indepently and manually with their dedicated flags.
# VBoxClient --clipboard --draganddrop --seamless --display --checkhostversion
But VirtualBox provides a currently undocumented feature, a Bash script VBoxClient-all which enables all these features automatically and checks if a X11 server is really running before enabling some of them.
# VBoxClient-all
To start that script automatically when system starts run the following command as root (or sudo):
# systemctl enable vboxservice
Am I correct in thinking that in order to get clipboard, full screen etc... I still have to use the VBoxClient -all command rather than the systemctl enable vboxservice?
I order to get the guest features to work I use the VBoxClient-all script in my autostart file.
If I run ps -ef | grep -i vbox without the autostart script i see the following below
root 184 1 0 14:44 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/VBoxService -f
and the clipboard features etc do not work.
Have I misunderstood something?

This first line says it all. If you are just lauching it then what ever user that you are logging in as does not have rights to see what you are attempting to show. If it is the first screen after login, then it is the default role that he does not have access too.

Still confused over fup changes to Total BB option...

There still seems to be confusion over the planned changes for Total BB Option 1 customers.
Although KerryG has informed us that the monthly allowance will remain at 10Gb and the charge for additional use will be changing to £5 per 5Gb, BT customer services seem to think the extra usage charge remains the same as it is now.

I can confirm that the info I provided on the earlier thread was correct. I am sorry if people have received other information when calling in. I have fed this back to the relevant teams to make sure all advisors are aware of these recent changes.
To clarify, the position for BT Total Broadband Option 1 is:
Usage allowance – will remain at 10GB
Additional usage charges – they will be charged at 5GB for £5 (rather than 1GB for £1) as from November 1st 2010.

ISE Guest Service fail depending on the browser

One of my customers is complaining about having problems to access the guest services depending on the browser used:
When the visitor has Intenet Explorer 10 or 11, he said the content is blocked and even the guest portal is not displayed. When the visitor has Google Chrome (no specific version indicated), he said the portal is displayed but the content is blocked after ingress user and password. Whit Firefox a certificate exception was added in advanced options.
I think the issue can be something related with certificates or even the computer but I'm not sure how can I identify the root cause.
I wonder if something in the ISE is reported about the browser used to authenticate in the guest portal. I know the release notes indicate browser compatibilities, but in guest services I think shouldn't be restrictions, because you don't know what device, OS, or browser will be used by guests.
The ISE is running 1.1.2.145, no patches yet.
I will appreciate any tip you can provide me.

Google chrome , Mozilla and IE are supported, but there is some restriction in the browser versions.
For IE make sure you have enabled ActiveX controls and check if the compatibilty mode is enabled.
If customer is making use of supported browsers and still experiencing the issue then we need to check what options are enabled on browsers and what is blocking the content download in the browser.

Cannot get Guest Services to Start on Virtual Domain Controller

I'm running System Center 2012 SP1 Version 3.1.6018.0
Guests all run Server 2008R2 SP1
I'm having a weird issue when trying to install guests services on a domain controller. On all of the virtual machines of the host, when trying to deploy the guest agent, it fails on all machines with the same error:
Error (2940)
VMM is unable to complete the requested file transfer. The connection to the HTTP server XXXXXXX could not be established.
Unknown error (0x80072ee2)
Recommended Action
Ensure that the HTTP service and/or the agent on the machine powstorehv1.gicw.org are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTP/HTTPS traffic on the configured port.
I have confirmed that there is no firewall blocking the process so in order to bypass this, I decided to just install the guest agent manually. This worked on all of the virtual machines on the host except for the one that is a Domain Controller.
At the point when it tries to start the service it gives me the following error:
Service 'Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager Guest Agent' (ScvmmGuestService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.
I have tried with and without UAC enabled and I always run the MSI from an elevated command prompt. I've tried with and without MSIEXEC as well. I have Enterprise and Domain Admin privileges as well and have even tried with the domain administrator account.
At this point I'm not sure why I do not have sufficient privileges to start the service on a Domain Controller but I do understand that permissions are different due to its nature.
Any ideas around this either by installing through SCVMM or manually? Thank you in advance for your time!

I am looking into an extension of our ApEx solution. Current situation:
- ApEx is used to fill in information (descriptions on reports). BIP is used to save this information in a file with a certain lay-out
- works as follows: user adds/changes information, presses a button and a file is saved somewhere (webservice -> BIP -> FTP output)
The change that I want to implement:
some fields are used on multiple output files. I would like to update all outputs after changing 1 field. This would mean: if a description is changed, I need to go into each report that needs the output, and launch the web service manually. Of course this is a tedious job and very error-prone. I would like to automate this. Whenever a field is saved, launch the web service for each report containing this field.
The biggest problem I'm having is launching the web service inside some sort of loop? Any tips/hints?

Adobe Reader XI (11.0.08) doesn't create thumbnail (bitmap) using Microsoft Interface IExtractImage -- Extract on Windows Server 2008 R2, when exe to generate thumbnail is launched from Windows service.

Adobe Reader XI (11.0.08) doesn't create thumbnail (bitmap) using Microsoft Interface IExtractImage --> Extract on Windows Server 2008 R2, when exe to generate thumbnail is launched from Windows service.
But if exe is launched as standalone, then interface IExtractImage --> Extract, gives Bitmap to generate thumbnail of PDF document.
Above problem occurs only for PDF documents, if we tried same with other software like CAD -CATIA it works without any problem.
Is there any security concerns form PDF side, which doesn't allow to generate Bitmaps, if exe to generate it is launched form Windows service.

It might be deliberate, Acrobat and Reader software is not intended to run in a service environment.

How do I update my VMM 2012 SP1 Guest Services to be the same as the Hosts?

How do I update my VMM Guest Services to be the same as the Hosts?
In VMM 2012 SP1 I right click on a VM and select “Install Virtual Guest Services” it installs as expected.
Cluster validation reports this error:
The following virtual machines are running integration services that does not match the host computer. You must update the
integration services on the virtual machines or the host computer to the same version.
I am able to go to the VM on host and update the Guest Services using the hyper-v manager but I would like it to work in VMM.
The version on the ISOs on the host is. 6.2.9200.16433 and the version being installed by VMM is 6.2.9200.16383.
I am not sure where VMM gets the it’s guests services from.
Any idea on how I update VMM to match the host?

I know right - I am really trying to be positive about this 'great stuff' that MS have brought us, but really - Going back to the Hosts to do each vm individually??? And saying you can do it in Powershell.....
I loved the days of DOS, I still use the concepts of it, but I thought we had (or that we were) evolving!!!!!

Yum config, kernel-header, and VBox guest additions

It appears that I've entered the Twilight Zone in dealing with kernel-header issues and installing OL 5.7 under VBox.
After using VMWorkstation quite happily for a few years, I've decided to give VBox a try. First I struggled with the differences in the way the two products handled networking (host-only and NAT), now I am struggling with getting VBox Guest Additions installed.
The first thing I do after initial OS installation is configure for the public yum server. Next I try to install the Guest Additions - mostly so I can share a directory with the host OS (Win 7) and pull in a bunch of standard scripts, Oracle DB install media, etc. Running the Guest Addition install - VBoxLinuxAdditions.run - complains about packgages, so I get them installed, and finally it complains about the kernel headers - unable to find source of kernel.
Looking around the web there seem to be a lot of 'this worked for me' -- with every solution being a bit different in critical details. I'd like to find not only a solution that will work for me, but also some explanation of the principals involved.
I'm beginning to suspect it may have to do with exactly how one configures 'public-yum-el5.repo'. I've always just enabled the section [el5_u7_base] (enabled=1) and left all other sections with 'enabled=0'. (and the 'u7' could vary, depending on what version I'm working with -- I've used 5.5 and 5.7). I just now built a new machine to try to crack this problem, and this time paid a lot more attention to what else was in the yum repo file. I noticed that not only are the '[el5_u(something)_base] sections:

You can write an application to push text to 7921, using CiscoIPPhoneExecute and CiscoIPPhoneText object. Check out Cisco's SDK for more information about using these objects.
There are 3rd party products, like PhoneTop Messenger, which allow you to push text/audio to Cisco IP phones.

Difficulty installing VBox guest additions to OEL 6.1 x64 system

I am having difficulty attempting to install VBox Guest Additions on my OEL 6.1 x64 system.
It seems to be similar to this recent thread:
Oracle Linux 6.1 - Kernel version and devel version mismatch
I have done the yum repo install of "http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-ol6.repo", but both "yum install kernel-uek-devel" and "yum install kernel-devel-2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64" fail with "No package available".
Note that the second package I mentioned above is the one appearing in the VBoxAdditions shell output as needing to be installed. Yet, it doesn't seem to exist.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

After doing "wget http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum.ol6.repo" and placing the file in /etc/yum.repos.d/ , did you change "enabled=0" to "enabled=1" within the new yum config file?

I came across your post as I experienced the same problem. As I found no answers I tried different let's say stupid solutions.
The one that solved my problem was to write the name for the @ColumnResult in capitals as I noticed that Oracle transforms the alias column names into capitals. I guess otherwise the mapping doesn't occur correctly.

Bridged network a vbox guest

My issue is that i want to connect my vbox-guest (backrack4) with my real Arch box via a bridged connection
but bridged connection for my ppp0 interface is not available in vbox

Starting EAS is very slow -Web Launcher for Administration Services Console

Hi all,
When a user has not been connected to EAS for more or less amount of time
starting the EAS via (Web Launcher for Administration Services Console) takes a very long time.
When ESA is started also opening the “Essbase Server” node and then also opening the “Application” node takes a long time.
This a very annoying.
Is there any chance to accelerate this?
Any hint is welcome.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention: Version 11.1.2.1 in a distributed environment Win2008R3 64bit.
From one of the servers I also used EAS with the same outcome - well seems the Service behind is the same one.
And as I wrote this is not always case. for example just this morning it was fast as I expected it to be.
However there must be a reason for the occasional slowliness and customers usually has less understanding for suche an up and down of performance.
Any idea?

"Install Virtual Guest Services" fails - Error (2927) - Unknown error (0x8033811e)

Management Server (MGMT01) is running SCVMM 2012 R2 on Windows 2012 R2
It's currently managing 2 Hyper-V hosts:
SRV01 is running Windows Server 2012 R2 - Hyper-V Core
SRV02 is running Windows 2008 R2 Standard with the Hyper-V role
SRV02 is going away eventually, so currently moving VM'S TO SRV01.
I was able to migrate the VM without issue but when attempting to install the guest services; I get the following error:
Error (2927)
A Hardware Management error has occurred trying to contact server MGMT01.DOMAIN.LOCAL :w:InternalError :HRESULT 0x8033811e:The WS-Management service cannot process the request. The WMI provider returned an 'invalid parameter' error. .

WinRM is running on MGMT01 and I'm running the VMM console as a domain admin. Firewalls have been disabled on management server and both hosts.
What else should I be looking at?

I attempted to create a new VM and was met with the same error but I'm able to create a VM using Hyper-V manager.

SCOM 2012 - Event ID 6024 (Launching Restart Health Service. Health Service exceeded Process\Handle Count or Private Bytes threshhold.)

I am getting event ID 6024 (LaunchRestartHealthService.js : Launching Restart Health Service. Health Service exceeded Process\Handle Count or Private Bytes threshhold.) within an interval ranging from 12-17 minutes.
I am using SCOM (2012 SP1 and 2012 R2) on Windows Server (2008 R2 / 2012 / 2012 R2).
This issue is occurring only on agent managed computer (acting as proxy and discover managed objects on other computers setting is enabled) which i am using for monitoring my device. All discovery scripts (powershell) and monitors are targeted on this agent
managed computer.
There are total 80 discoveries and 900 monitors. 55 discoveries and 550 monitors are enabled by default and rest all are disabled.
I am seeing event id 6024 frequently only on agent managed computer. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue.

To fix issue 6024, you can follow below steps:
1. Open SCOM console. Go to Monitors -> Agent -> Entity Health -> Performance -> Health Service Performance -> Health Service State.
2. Double click Health Service Handle Count Threshold monitor and go to Overrides page.
3. Click Override -> For a specific object of Class: Agent. Select the affected SCOM agent QMXServer.
4. Check on the parameter Agent Performance Monitor Type - Threshold. Change the default value 2000 to an appropriate value, like 4000. You can check the Health service handle count alert in SCOM console to get the value when the alert is generated. You
can also launch the health explorer against QMXServer to check the value when the monitor state is changed from healthy to critical.
