Nexus 2K to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch

Hi,
I am trying to connect Nexus 2K FEX to Cisco 2960 IOS Switch (Trunk config) and causing spanning tree loop having issues. I am aware that I should't be connecting non host port to 2K FEX but it's corner case. I have done similar setup with Access Port configuration and didn't faced any issues.

Should I configure port as "spanning-tree port type network" and create VPC and "storm-control broadcast level" to stop future occurrence?  OR Do i have to configure anything else to prevent spanning-tree loops?
Thanks for your help
Ritesh

Hi,
spanning-tree port type network is used for VPC peer-link.  Try creating a new VPC and add ports 107/1/47 and 108/1/47 to it and a Portchannel on the 2960 and test.

  • Cisco 2960 Series Switch Architecture

    Hi all,
I wanted to know if there is a document or an article which describes 2960 series architecture specifically for model WS-C2960-24-S as there is for 2600 series in the following link:

  • Increasing TFTP block size for 2960 series switches

I have read that some Cisco components can increase the default TFTP block size to values greater than 512 bytes by using the command -
    ip tftp blocksize xxxx
This doesn't seem to be available on Cisco 2960 series switches. Is there a way to do this with the 2960's?

I have moved a WS-C2960-24LC-S running LanLite to 12.2(55)SE9 - the current end of the line for this switch - and indeed the command is not present. Sooo....this appears to be a limitation of LanLite.
My predecessor implemented about 70 switches with LanLite. I put a stop to this about a year ago but it is going to take some time to flush them out of the inventory.
    Thanks for your response.

  • Cisco 2960S Configured in Transparent mode

I have a Cisco 2960S gig switch configured in transparent mode with multiple vlans configured. I have printers that I can ping, the ports shows up but on the printer it says offline. Any idea what could be causing this?

If your printer and your PCs are all in the same subnet and only the printer is not working then VTP mode Transparent has nothing to do with your issue.
I'd be keen to know if you have a firewall blocking anything from the IP address of the printer?  Maybe the IP subnet mask or default gateway of the printer is not working?
What do you get when you do a "sh mac-address interface <PRINTER port>"?

  • Low Transfer Rate On 2960-S Switch

    Hi,
I have 2 PCs (1gbps lan card each ) connected to Cisco 2960-S switch.
The bandwidth of all ports on 2960-S is set to 1gbps manually.
However whenever I transfer any file between the two I don't get transfer rate more than 12MBps/96mbps.
Theoretically it should be 125MBps but why am I getting such low transfer rate?
    Regards.

  • How to connet cisco 2960S switch to sony nexus 7?

I want to buy an cisco WS-C2960S-24TS-S switch to help me solve business networking problem. Can someone help me to connect cisco 2960s switch to nexus 7 ?

I don't need to do anything config on the new switch, I just need to upgrade the new switch's IOS version as the existing stack.
Correct.  Upgrade using the command "archive download-sw" instead copying the BIN files.
After doing above task, I connect all stack cable and power cord as you said, and then the new switch can be synchronized with the MASTER switch. right??
Correct.  The new switch should NOT have any configuration.  This includes VLAN.dat file.

  • Cisco 2960s Switch replacement

    Greetings,
    Dear Experts,
We are using the Cisco 2960s Switches in our network. We have two failed switches and asked for replacement from our supplier. They informed that the 2960s model is approaching End Of Service (EOS) and the replacement of that model are as below:
    1- WS-C2960X-24TS-L
    Catalyst 2960-X 24 GigE, 4 x 1G SFP, LAN Base
    2-WS-C2960S-24TS-L
    Catalyst 2960S 24 GigE, 4 x SFP LAN Base
What is the best practice to make my decision of which to select? will it make difference from the configuration perspective? is there a possibility for conflict with the existing 2960s Switches?
Many thanks in advance for your kind assistance.
    Thanks and Regards

We have two failed switches and asked for replacement from our supplier.
Time for you to talk to your supplier.  Cisco has announced the EoS/EoL for the 2960S back in November 2014 (End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst 2960-S Series and 2960-SF Series Switches).  However, this only means the date of November 2014 is just a date of announcement.  The final date of sale for the 2960S is November 2015.
I think your supplier either is getting confused (didn't read the announcement properly or didn't know) or is just looking for ways to make more money.
is there a possibility for conflict with the existing 2960s Switches?
You can form a stack of 2960S and 2960X.  Just know the limitations, and they are:
    1.  The entire stack must have the same IOS versions;
    2.  The stack speed will drop from 20 Gbps (2960X) to 10 Gbps because 2960S has been set to run only at this speed; and
    3.  You cannot have five or more in a stack if you have a 2960S as a member of the stack.

Just to further clarify, we have 4 5548UP switches in the same management vlan. 2 switches are in one location lets say location A and they are CFS peers and are working fine.
These two switches which are having problem are in location B. All the switches are in the same vlan. Essentially the all CFS multicast messages will be seen by all 5548 switches as they are in the same vlan. I am assuming that this might not create any problems as we specify the peers in the respective configurations. Or do we have to change the CFSoIPv4 multicast addresses in location B or may be configure a different region.
    Regards.

  • Strange issue with new Cisco Catalyst 2960 (IOS)

    Hello all,
I am upgrading a older 2950(100M) switch replacing it with a gigabit 2960. Installed it in the same rack, the configuration is practically non-existent just set the passwords and IP. We run a single VLAN flat network for this so I started out by patching it to the existing switch, after a few days we had an opportunity to migrate because there was some downtime so I disconnected the cables on the old and moved them to the new.. Everything seemed fine, there is connectivity and things operate, but a few days later we noticed that some network transfer activities are slow. There are no errors or log entries showing on the new switch or the old one, but the low throughput is persistent.
All ports show 1G Full duplex as they should, but what I see when I test is that traffic tests look almost asynchronous when passing switch boundaries with normal read speeds and slow writes. Reversing the direction of the test hosts I get slow reads and fast writes so it seems to 'stick' to one side of the traffic path. Testing the same equipment against differente targets without the switch boundary crossing does not show the problem. All Intra-switch tests look good (gig switches transfer near a gig and 100 switches near 100), but the moment there is a crossing things behave strangely regardless of the target (new switch is center backbone with most hosts, but does no routing). Network layout is essentially a T with everything radiating from the new switch. I can eliminate the old switch soon, but I still need to resolve the problem with the crossing to the other switch.
Everything seems to point at the inter switch links. One is a patch cable under two feet, and the other is a dedicated fiber site link. We had the vendor confirm that the site link showed no issues, but having the same symptoms on both links makes me suspect the switch has something odd happening..
I checked for duplex issues first, but didn't find any. I flushed the arp caches in all of the switches (3 total) and all of the computers as well, but the problem persists.
Could this be an STP issue ?   If so how can I set this switch as the STP root and force a refresh..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There really isn't anything odd configured, but since CDP doesn't cross the fiber link I think it must be a q-q tunnel..

  • Cisco 2960S FPS-L PoE switch with Avaya 9811g VOIP setup

    Hello,
I am connecting a setup for data/voice connecting Catalyst 2960S-FPS-L PoE switch with Avaya 9811g series VOIP phone. As per my knowledge cisco switch works well with Cisco phone as it has got some builtin "Macros" and Intelligent PoE recognition when we connect device getting the details of another device through CDP. I understand I have to create data and voice vlan with QOS then enable trunking on the interface to other switch that is also 2960. Little confuse if is there any compatibility issues with Switch and Avaya phone regarding protocol/data/voice...?
Do I have to do PoE config for each port on the each interface?
any help or detail config will help.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi I am back after good research. created two vlan data and voice with trunk on interface1/0/48 given below config..
connection b/w 2960s FPS Switch and Avaya 9611g IP Phone.
    lldp/cdp is enable on switch
So I created this config if some one can take a look .
    expert advise if something wrong?..
I am only concern with Voice and PoE as voice is my priority. do i have to map something for voice quality?
also if i create another Trunk port one allow voice other allow data both cable will go to switch will that be issue?
