No Faith in BT for Broadband

Reading some of the other messages on this forum it would appear I am not alone and that my issue is a bit repetative, I make no apologies for registering my issue as hopefully it will help others.
What I failed to do was I failed to read this forum before I entered in to a contract with BT!
In December I received the famous usage email about my Broadband at home. Strange as I work in London (not my home location) and considering I only spent my weekends at home I couldnt understand why my usage was so near the limit.
I was then away the last week in December and the first week in January.
I received the same usage email a few days ago. Considering I was away until the 7th January and this email came in around 2 weeks later it was very strange that I had managed to blitz my 10GB in 2 weeks.
I then used the online chat to acertain some daily usage information. MASSIVE surprise to be told thats not possible. I am sorry... I just cannot accept that. I find it amazing to be told that.
So, what confidence can I have that BT arent just telling me all this to obtain extra money from me and when you question for data I am told its not possible?!!!
I have escalated with a call. The lady, who was very helpful, still wasnt able to provide me with a breakdown beyond the last week. She concluded someone must be using my wireless connection. I told her that this kind of theft is a crime and I want it escalating... after some debate she has escalated to the security team.
I am left feeling very angry, decevied and underwhelmed and actually still cant believe I am being told that I cant receive my daily usage data for analysis.
Anyone help?

  • I need a doctor for broadband

I have no interest in music nor do I save more than a very modest collection of photos, thus I've been comfortable with running Panther on my PC3 600 MHz iBook. But recently, Comcast became available in my area and I do have a very large interest in shedding dial-up for broadband. I checked it out and was stunned to learn that Comcast requires a minimum of Tiger, Firefox 2 or Safari 2.
Have I got this right? Is it true I'll have to upgrade to 10.4? Is 10.4 worth the expenditure? Should I sell my wife's car and buy a MacBook or a set of tires for my car?

Well now, on this 15" with Panther, I have comcast working with an Apple Extreme WiFi as I type this. The 17" is hooked to it by ethernet. My daughter with her iBook sometimes comes over and uses it WiFi like I do with this one... she has Tiger. I have an old G3 in the den that has 10.1 and it can get on the 'high-speed' through the ethernet when I run the wire to it, the old Firefox is the browser, not the new one.
So, I would say that that requirement of comcast is false. (Except to be able to get to their web-site and pay your bill, or get web-mail... here you will need an up-to-date browser... I use Camino, it works wonderful with Panther)
Please note though that comcast does upgrades to their systems every so often and things change. Like once I could only have one computer on at a time, not two. Only one computer can be set to get their e-mail, if you change it, then the other one is blocked... until changed back. Password doesn't seem to matter, as of now, they have my main computers ID (or something like that) and it comes in without a password.
I was a bit ticked when only one computer could be on at a time, but with WiFi and the signal carrying to others in the neighborhood, I can see why they did it. Now with WPA on the WiFi, I can have multiple at the same time. They are all my computers and I am paying for there 'home' service... so!
But, no, you do not need Tiger, I even think Classic could get on with the right browser, even if all the security features are not in the older browsers.
Remember, you will have to get the service set-up by wired 'ethernet'... once it is, then WiFi should be able to be used. (With the name/password for the WPA)
It's better to set it up with one at comcast on the phone, as even if you have all the ID's and Passwords entered in, they have to do something on their end to allow you onto their server with it. I believe they should of had it all set for when I did my end, but it wasn't, they seem to had to confirm it was me doing it, perhaps something to do with paying the bill and 'actually' getting the service. (They are very security conscious... sometimes to being an annoyance.)

  • Migrated away and BT still charging for broadband!...

Title says it all really. We applied for our MAC via the BT website and handed it to the new bb supplier who took it up and started our new BB on the 2nd August 2012. Then last week (3 weeks later) the normal BT phone bill is still showing the BB charge as if we were still with BT for BB!
So, phoned the bt listed 0800 number and got the usual Indian call center run around. First they said there was a fault on the line. Then after refusing to accept that as a reason they said the proper transfer process hadn't been followed. Asked for 'Geof's manager and got the same flim-flam. Been using the new service provider for 3 weeks with their supplied equipment and network credentials so how the stuff can BT not even know or recognise this ?! Spoke to a technical person for our new BB provider who said he'd seen this a lot as he recogned that BT just needed to examine their own records in more detail. Very happy with new provider but BT is still a Total Nightmare so now we'll ditch their phone rental as well and complain to OFCOM about these charges.
Oh, and if ANYONE with a modicum of intelligence at BT has any ability to sort this mess out our account number is TH********, you know the phone number to call us on (I presume !).

  • Check online for broadband service problems in you...

    Hi Everyone
If you have a broadband issue it's possible that there could be a temporary problem at your local exchange that is affecting every broadband connection in your area.
You can check this on our broadband service status page:
Check online for broadband service problems in your area
The service status page can be used to check if the internet and telephone network is OK in your area.  It provides a list of known issues and planned engineering works and is updated regularly.
If a problem affecting your area has only recently been resolved, you may still need to restart your modem or router to restore your broadband service.
    Thx

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that the issue happens to several PCs with Outlook 2010.
I noticed that you have done several troubleshooting about the Outlook crash issue. I suggest we can install Outlook 2013 in a new computer and check whether the issue happens in Outlook 2013.
If the issue doesn’t happen in Outlook 2013, please update your Outlook 2010 to the latest patches and service packs and check whether the issue persists.

  • STILL WAITING FOR BROADBAND CONNECTION

I placed an order to switch my phone and broadband from sky to bt on 22nd June 2011.  My line was activated on 13th July and broadband equipment arrived also.  However I got a call saying my line was not capable of holding the 24MB broadband and there would be a couple of days delay and then I would have the 8mb connection.  Several frustrating phonecalls to India and empty promisesof activation  later here we are on 1st August 2011 and I am still waiting, meanwhile my call charges are increasing as my broadband package includes calls.  I was informed that my original broadband order would be cancelled and a new one would be placed and it would take 48 hours to get an activation date.  I have just spoke to them again and they claim to have spoken to the exchange department and now they are telling me I cannot get broadband at all until December and then she cut me off.  As i am still with sky for broadband and the migration has not taken place i am paying an additional £7 per month as i have lost my phone & broadband discount. Now after speaking to someone from BT in the UK I have been told there is a technical problem preventing me from getting broadband.  Please can you help.

In this case I think the best solution would be to contact the mods, you can do that by following this link: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Why would you charge me $40 for a supposedly free upgrade?Have been a faithful verizon customer for years went in for myfree upgrade and paid for a iphone and protectve cover now I have to pay a fee for a free service? I will start switching my devices to

Why would you charge me$40 for a free upgrade? I chose a iPhone and paid you the difference plus protective cover, now you want to charge  me a fee for activating a number I have had for years!!!  I have been a faithful Verizon customer for years but I will switch companies when my contracts are up or I can get a buy out from another company, your free upgrade is not free and is a false advertisement as far as I'm concerned

However you had already stated you did not choose a "free upgrade", but paid the difference for an iPhone. So much for your "free upgrade". Additionally, I was not aware Verizon was in the business of giving away "free service"(s)?????? Purchasing a "free" or "reduced price" phone IS NOT a free service. You sign a contract in exchange for receiving that benefit. There is an upgrade fee along with that service you are contracted to complete or you will be charged an early termination fee(ETF), so this IS NOT a free service.
Yes, you have a choice to go with another provider which ALSO charges an upgrade fee OR charges you full retail value for your phone. So much for a "free upgrade" there.
    AT&T = upgrade fee
    Sprint = upgrade fee
T-Mobile = no upgrade fee but must pay full retail cost for the phone
For what it is worth, you would not have had to pay an upgrade fee had you simply paid full retail cost for your phone OR purchased it with Edge at full retail cost. Depending on your calling plan and data allowance, you may have even ended up paying less for your phone had you done so. That is why a little research before you make a purchase can go a long way.
I know it is cheaper for me to pay full retail for a phone than to purchase a discounted device in exchange for signing a contract.
Good luck with the new provider.

  • Why am I charged so much for Broadband???

I've just looked at my bill and I'm being charged £28.35 a month for my broadband, but the most expensive package I can find on BT.com is £26 and that includes Infinity - I only have an old 2.0 homehub...
The billing info pages aren't very helpful so I can't find out why I'm paying so much. Any ideas?

It's not the model of homehub that determines your bill, it's which package you are on. You may also have your line rental included in that figure. Line rental is about £15. If you contact Live chat should be able to explain your bill to you.

They want me to take my skills in technology, learn how to do video work, and then create over a hundred 5-10 minute promo videos for use in fundraising and admissions.
Skills in technology doesn't make someone a skilled filmmaker. At least you are getting SOME training with the film/video professor there. But what puzzles me is you getting hired to do VIDEO work when you only have an AUDIO background.
Let me put it in this light...I know video editing and shooting. I can use an Avid and Final Cut Pro, and I was a professional videographer for 2 years when I got out of college. A school just hired me to teach audio editing and to make hundreds of radio spots using ProTools.
    See what's wrong there?
If you were starting out in a lower level position, I'd understand this. But to be teaching something you don't know about, and working professionally in a field you are not skilled in, makes no sense to me. Ahhh, academia.
    1. What's one thing you wish someone had told you when you got started in video?
Well, when I entered the job market everyone asked me for my demo reel. The college didn't mention anything about this...so I didn't have one, and didn't have access to tools to MAKE one. SO I had to shell out money to rent an Avid for a couple days to make one.
    2. What's the most valuable thing YOU would like to impart to a beginner?
Don't be afraid to work for free. This is how you get experience and a reel...and known.
    3. What's one piece of equipment I haven't listed that you would like to recommend or what's one piece of equipment I have listed that you think I should reconsider?
LTO tape drive for archiving all that P2 footage.

  • NOT USING AP EXTREME used Leopard Cache cleaner OPTIMIZE for BROADBAND=slow

Anyone know what OPTIMIZE for BROADBAND did? I lost at least 300K per second after this.
    HUGE friggin mistake.
It asked me for my password so I know its a buffer/memory setting and not the router - anyone here know how to restore back to previous state?
    Thanks

Well, after a few reboots, clear safari (reset), it does seem a bit faster.
It went from 10150K per second (1.01MB) to 10620K and I get about 1.2~1.3MB per second download.
Just wondering what setting it changed.

  • HELP. My brother is being charged for broadband. h...

Can someone please help my brother is being charged for bt broadband that he doesn't have after being charged £125 installation fee for a bt man to sit in his van for an hour and not do a thing. After numerous phone calls to resolve this he asked me to come on here has the mods really helped me out.

    Hi Dolphin,
what i would recommend is for you to help your brother by contacting BT directly and find out who and when the order was processed for BT Broadband.
Secondly, has your brother received a BT Home Hub?  If not then i would ask BT why?
You state that a BT engineer sat out in a van for some time, what was this for?  was this for a booked instalation for BT Broadband?  if so, raise a complaint with BT, hopefully this link http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/2702,2705,2719 will allow you to e-mail BT or you can always dial 150 from a bt line to complain.
Here is more info if you wish to complain with BT, follow the procedures to BT's book, if they fail, you can complain to Otelo

  • Moved house, being billed for broadband and equipm...

We were approached by BT to upgrade our Broadband to Infinity.
I explained that we were likely to move in the near future and the advisor said that we could transfer our account to the new house. I was suspicious that this would not be the case and made the advisor repeat that this contract would be portable.
As it happens, we have a gap in between houses and now BT are demanding £270 for equipment and contract fees.
I use BT at home and at my company and feel really aggrieved by this situation.
I was sent a prepaid bag for my hub etc which I returned but BT are still charging for equipment.
I hung on for ages last week, navigated loads of "press 1" for this " press 2" for that menus and when I finally did get to speak to a human she could hardly understand English.
I will really be thinking twice about having BT as a provider in our next house and will be reviewing my work broadband.
