Oops. Created a nightmare...Word import question

I thought I was so clever...
I generated a Word doc from my Robohelp project so that
people could edit the content in Word. Once all their changes are
entered in the Word doc, I planned to import the Word doc and then
generate the new online help.
Slight problem....I have no idea how to import the revised
Word doc so that I don't create a cut and paste nightmare. The Word
doc import creates new topics, but I want to replace the existing
topics.
Is there a way to do this or did I set myself up for a long,
long day of cutting and pasting the new topics imported from Word
into my existing topics?

Hokay.
After reading/searching a bit more, I have come to the
conclusion that it's probably best that I import the Word doc into
a new Robo project, then import the new html files from the new
project to my existing project, overwriting the original topics so
that they are updated.
Question...Robo keeps converting some of my headings into
bookmarks, not separate topics, and I'd like them as separate
topics.
In Word, I have applied the Heading 1 style to every topic
I'd like to create. Heading 1 is the only other style besides some
hyperlinks and bolding and normal. When I get the dialog box in
Robo that asks how new topics should be created, I select the
Heading 1 checkbox. Robo then creates a few new topics, but it's
bookmarking a lot of the topics I had marked as H1 in Word. In
Word, I have 327 H1 styles. In Robo, I only have 10 new topics; the
rest are bookmarks.
Why is it doing this and how do I get it to stop?

  • When i am trying to create a report(using graph) in Word97 using Report generation Toolkit from Labview it's giving error in word import Module.vi that no such interface is supported could anyone help me out to solve this problem

Word import Module.vi is trying to call Vb project and VB components thru active X controls when it's trying to call Vb components it's giving the error no such interface found..I am using Labview 6,MSoffice97,Graph8

    Hi Adam,
It seems that there have been a couple other instances of the same error occurring and the problem is a conflict that occurs with the Office 97 only. Somehow the MS Office type library has been modified and this is causing incompatibilities with MS Office 97. Have you installed any other application on top of MS Office that plugs into MS Office tools – Adobe Acrobat, Visio, Reflection?? If so, you will want to see about uninstalling or reinstalling those utilities and then reinstalling Office 97 to restore the original MS Office 97 type library.
Also, if you have a newer version of MS Office, I would highly recommend upgrading your computer. It seems that this problem is only with Office 97 and later versions of Office do not have this issue.
Thanks again for bringing this question up.

  • Can't create pdf. from word doc when edited photos are included

Or for that matter, from any photo which has been imported from my camera through lightroon, which happens everytime I  download shots to my harddrive. I create .pdf tutorials which include process shots and text; whnever I include shots which have come through lightroom, I get an error message telling me that the flies in question are in use with another application. There must be a workaround for this, right? Why can't an edited photo be included into a word doc and then converted to a pdf?

You must have a program open with the image file or you would not get this message.
I just did a test run. It works perfectly with my images. I tried it with a JPG and I tried it with a TIFF.
Word imported them into the document and exported the document to PDF.
The TIFFs  were created in Lr by exporting, and they are in the Lr catalog. So Lr is not the culprit for you rproblem.
What I sometimes forget when I edit / change a Word document is that a PDF already created has to be closed. When I don't like my PDF and just go back to Word, do some changes and export again to the same PDF, i.e. overwriting the existing PDF, then the PDF cannot be created. The PDF that needs changing must be closed before another export can happen.

  • E-Recruiting important questions

I'm implementing the E-Recruiting and I have two important questions for this Project:
1 - The business want to capture mobility (willingness to relocate / travel) at the time of position application. Is there a standard field for store this information?
2 - Recruitment would like to be informed about a critical process, in others words, the requisition doesnu2019t compete with other priorities. How can I handle this situation?
    Thanks in advance!!!
    Sivani

    Hi Sivani,
Questionnaire answers are stored in IT5141.  They are visible to the Recruiters when viewing the Candidates and can be used in rankings.  You can also decide for which positions this questionnaire would be required and which not.
Do not see a standard field to create a priority when creating a Requisition.  We added many fields, such as "eligibility for employee referral", so it can be added.  However, letting managers set the priorities could be a problem with each manager thinking his/her opening is most important.

  • [CS4] Word Import severely broken

(Not a question, rather an observation...)
The Word import has gone from already rather bad to worse with one of the upgrade patches. Two major nuisances that don't seem to have been present from the initial version (based on "we'd surely have noticed this earlier"; they also are definitely not present in CS3!):
Random paragraphs are cut off at the end, continuing on the same line with the next paragraph. The cut-off part appears at the very end of the imported text -- including its hard return. So when I see some stray words at the end I know I have to scan the entire document by eye to find where they came from. Entirely random -- reading a same file twice, or on a different computer or platform, will have the same error but on a different place.
Importing a Word document no longer reads text point size correctly. Sometimes entire paragraphs are in the wrong point size -- at random, not simply using the wrong style or something like that. This is extremely bad, as my firm relies on point size for proper automated formatting.
Rather random -- some paragraphs will be wrong on other computers, some are wrong at random.
This is not limited to one platform; all our computers, Mac and Windows, Leopard, Snow Leopard as well as XP (SP3) will all import a certain file with these errors. Of course all systems are fully patched up to 6.0.4.
It's also not limited to .doc files. Saving the file as .rtf has the exact same symptoms: in Word, all is fine & dandy, in CS4 the text and formatting gets garbled.
A working kludge is to import suspicious documents into CS3, save, open in CS4 and go from there. Hardly a solution.

    [Jongware] wrote:
I found that a troublesome document keeps being troublesome ... saved as .doc, rtf, or docx. At any time, something or the other goes wrong with the very same document: cut off bits and pieces of text, footnotes that go haywire, formatting out of whack, text cut off immediately following a table ... And so on. So as soon as I see it happen on a particular doc, I import it into CS3, save, open that in CS4 and copy the text out of it. No problem anymore.
I filed a bug report to Adobe Tech services. Sent one of my Word docs with it, along with a CS4 file showing the problem of bits of text coming in at the end. They went over those files for a week and reported back "The change in text runs is because (a) the page size and margins of your Word file do not match that of your InDesign file, and (b) because of different layout and formatting options, the text may not run the same even if so." That made me laugh. Until I cried.
    Thanks for the CS3 solution.
The mismatched margins issue sounds bogus to me. If stuff shows up at the end of file, out of sequence, it's most likely because the particular version of Word in which the original file was created got confused about managing incremental edits, and the file was "fast saved," which keeps the file content and changes in chronological order of creation, and uses pointers to mark what's added and what's to be deleted or ignored. Some versions of Word were so bad at this that even Word itself couldn't interpret the mishmash when opening a fast-saved file of its own.
A good practice that I don't recall seeing mentioned on these forums is, if possible, to make sure to save the Word file to a new name in Word, before converting or placing it in InDesign. Just as InDesign does, saving to a new name reorders the file content and cleans out the spaghetti pointers. I believe that InDesign's spaghetti doesn't go bad so often as Word's, but it's always a good idea to save to a new name periodically. It's possible that some problems that affect exchanging INX files are related to the reliance on pointers to keep a file in order.

  • How to import questions into Captivate 4 from a delimited file

    I'm looking
a way to import questions from a delimited text file (or excel spreadsheet)
    into captivate.
All the questions are simple multiple choice, single answer, four selections per question.
I have hundreds - I'd hate to have to retype them all in one at a time.
    Thanks in advance
    -Joan

Does anyone know if this is a feature in Captivate 5.
Other things I would really like to see in Captivate 5.
Importing and Exporting the graded quiz/test content out of captivate into another
application/ form.  Such as xml, tab delimited, excel spreadsheet,
Adobe pdf, Word document or another format.  Our current content
developement systems allows us to (when publishing) do this.
1> exclude questions from the Published content
(exclude section questions, or final test content)
2> produce different test versions from question banks
3> Produce a PDF paper test for when we want to train in a classroom setting
4> Select which questions we want to produce
5> Import questions from a pre-defined format.  To note: when we do this the system also makes us define a unique interaction id so that the import will update existing questions.
I know this will NOT work for some of the more sophisticated questions, But for the simple Mulitple choice, true/false, fill in the blank.  etc..
THIS WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE..
It would also be NICE TO HAVE THE abiliy to PROFILE versions of the SAME Course WITH OUT REPRODUCING / DUPLICATING / REPEATING THE  ENTIRE COURSE PRESENTATION.
    Such as
    "INSTRUCTOR TAUGHT TRAINING"
    "WEB TRAINING"
    "PAPER TEST A"
    "PAPER TEST B"
    ETC...
LASTLY: if we can not export the QUIZ content.  Can an excel spreadsheet LIKE INTERFACE be used to edit certain aspects of the questions.
Such as the InteractionId which is sent to the LMS ('cmi.interactions.0.id').  My developer team says it is real difficult and time consuming
to track down interactionIds and then maintain them in a perfect way.

  • Specifying PDF Open Parameters in Word Import Scenario

I have created a number of URLs in a Word document that open on a specific page no. in PDF files e.g. http://www.adhc.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/file/0008/228194/HomeModificationGuidelines.pdf#p age=4
The parameters function as expected when opened directly in the Word document, however after importing and publishing in RH v9,   the parameterised URLs are ignored completely in the Browser (Internet Explorer).
If I add the URL's via RH directly, they are OK, however I've got to keep the source in Word format.  Does anyone know if this is a limitation in the context of Word imports to RH or am I missing the point somewhere along the way? I've searched high and low for an answer and praying that there might be a solution or workaround!
    Many thanks in advance...
    Wilana

Thanks for this Wilana. This behaviour appears to be across the board in IE, FF and Chrome I'm afraid. It also only does this is the PDF is located externally - i.e. outside the project. If the PDF is included as a baggage file, the #page=x parameter works OK.

  • Dashed Table borders do not render correctly when PDF created from MS word 2013

I have a defined format for many documents which have all been created in MS word 2007.  Never any problem creating PDFs of  these using ADOBE XI Pro.
Updated to MS 2013 and now when converting the same doc to PDF all dashed borders around tables render as solid lines. The only time they render correctly is if I PRINT to PDF.  Printing to PDF is not an option as I create batches of many documents at one time, so would be to time consuming.  This was an issue when i considered upgrading 2007 to 2010 a couple of years ago, so caused me to delay upgrade.. upgrade is now required.
I have a sample of a document if required.
    thanks

Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

  • Word import - hyperlinks work in one document, not in another

    Hi all,
I am aware that much has been written about broken links after importing, but there is a strange pattern to my problem I have not seen before.
I have three language versions of one document (English, French, German). So I set up three independent RoboHelp 8 projects and imported (linked) the corresponding Word documents. English and German are no problem, but in the French project, some (10%) cross-refs are not converted to hyperlinks. The involved titles have no accents, so it is probably not a character set problem. If I update the Word link or force update, it is always exactly the same cross-refs that are not converted correctly.
The cross-refs in Word look like this:
    {HYPERLINK \I " title "}
The cross-refs that do convert correctly have the same format, I see no difference between cross-references that work in RH and those that don't.
    Any ideas about this?

Sometimes, but it does not seem to affect the function. There are working links with spaces at the end.
On the other hand, there are strange things like this:
I have two chapter titles named "Système de désignation des modules de fonction" and"Système de désignation des connexions".
When I create hyperlinks, then Word inserts these fields:
    {HYPERLINK \l " Système de désignation"}
    {HYPERLINK \l " Système de désignation "}
-> The titles are cut off in the middle, the text markers differ only by an extra space. These hyperlinks work in Word, but not in RoboHelp.

  • Maintaining internal word cross references in word import

I'm using RoboHelp 9.0.1 trying to import Word 2007 (docx) in order to generate a WebHelp. I have adjusted my style mapping in order generate an appropriate TOC with books and matching sub chapters, which works fine. However, internal Word cross references from the original Word document are not transformed into hyperlinks.
I have already tried/verified the following:
    - The "convert cross references to hyperlink" option is checked in the RH-Word import settings.
    - I also tried fiddling with the Framemaker options as it is suggested in another thread (see beneath), with no success.
    - Within the Word source document I tried both options with "use hyperlinks instead" when creating cross references.
    - The RH-HTML source, in all of my attempts, does not show any links in the corresponding locations.
What may I be missing here? According to another, similar thread, the feature should work and is really not that challenging:
"RH9 - Can not create ANY links in linked Word documents"
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854095?tstart=0

In my testing, I got a link in the RH topic, but it wanted to launch the target Word doc instead of jumping to the desired RH topic. I'd say this sounds like a bug - so go ahead and report it.

  • Creating PDF in Word 2007 creates horizontal line

    Hello,
This is my first post in this forum. In general, I have not had problems creating PDFs from Word 2003, or from Word 2007 - from either .doc or .docx documents.
Yesterday, with one document, when I created a PDF, a centered horizontal line kept appearing near the top of the first 2 pages. These 2 pages
have no header content. This line is NOT in the Word document. The rest of the PDF appears normal - with its normal header content.
I think the problem is within Word 2007 (what a surprise!) because I can eliminate the problem by printing a .ps file of the Word doc and then
distilling it.  The only problems with that method are that (1) It's more time-consuming, and - more important -  (2) the bookmarks are not
automatically created. So, to create bookmarks manually takes even more time, and I don't know how to create the hyperlinks from the TOC
    (or even if that's possible).
Any idea what's going on?  I tried making PDFs of some other user
guides (same doc template), and they are fine.
    Many thanks!

    Hi again Raechel,
It's such fun dealing with Word and "Microsloth", isn't it?!  IMHO, they
should have left Office alone at the 2003 (or 2002?) versions.... Even at
2000, styles were easier to deal with!
Especially after using Madcap Flare for a few years, going back to Word is
especially torturous.  I go back and forth from one to the other,
depending on what I'm working on - product-wise or document-wise.
Your Word certainly may have gotten corrupted, but even if that's not the
case -- Word is still buggy as hell (forgive the minor expletive)!!
Glad you made your printing deadline!!

Creating PDF in Word 2007 creates horizontal line
    Melanie,
I read your post, and decided to spend my evening figuring out what was
going on.  You are right about it being related to the lines in the header
and footers, but as my document had no headers and footers, I found that
odd.  I tried to edit the styles without success.  Now isn't that odd,
    too?
I had to delete the header and footer styles from my document in order
    to
get rid of the lines.  I suspect my copy of Word became corrupted as I
    madly
edited several documents, all with photos.  As my adult son pointed out,
"well, they don't put their top programmers on Word, after all."  I
    checked
my memory utilization, and it appears that Word isn't cleaning up after
itself very well, so it loses track of some of its objects, and things get
    out of synch.
Well, in the end I managed to re-produce my document, which is good,
    because
it had to go to the printer last night before midnight, and it got there
    at
    11:40.
    Thanks for your help,
    Raechel

  • HT4168 I have created an 100 page booklet in Pages, with many photographs, can I export it to ePub, and make an electronic book, because it says that "Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template"?

I have created an 100 page booklet in Pages, with many photographs, and much written word, can I export it to ePub, and make an electronic book, because it says that "Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template"?....
Basically what I want to do is publish the document into both an eDocument, and a hard copy document. What is the best way to do this?

No Peter, this statement came right off the Apple ePub statement when outlining how to use ePub. the full context is:
    Creating ePub files with Pages
    Summary
Learn how to create ePub files with Pages.
    Products Affected
    Pages '09
ePub is an open ebook standard produced by the International Digital Publishing Forum. Pages ’09 lets you export your documents in ePub format for reading with iBooks on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
iBooks supports both ePub and PDF file formats, and you can export both from Pages.
When to use ePub or PDF
Use ePub when text is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a book, a report, a paper, a thesis, or classroom reading material.
More details on using ePubUse PDF when layout is the most important part of your document, for example when you create a brochure, a flyer, or a manual with multiple illustrations.
    More details on using PDF
Creating an ePub Document to Read in iBooks
You can export any Pages word processing document to the ePub file format for reading in an ePub reader, such as the iBooks application on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Documents created in page layout templates can’t be exported to the ePub format.
Documents exported to ePub format will look different than their Pages counterparts. If you want to get the best document fidelity between the Pages and ePub formats, style your Pages document with paragraph styles and other formatting attributes allowed in an ePub file. A sample document is provided on the Apple Support site that features styles and guidelines to help you create a Pages document that’s optimized for export to the ePub file format, which you can use as a template or a guide. To learn more about using paragraph styles in Pages, see the topics under the heading “Working with Styles” in the Pages built-in help.
To read your ePub document in iBooks on your mobile device, you must transfer the ePub file that you create onto your device.
To use the “ePub Best Practices” sample documentTo learn more about using the ePub format and get a better feel for how a Pages document might appear as a book in iBooks, it’s a good idea to download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document. After reading the guidelines and instructions within the document, you can use it as a template to create your own document. You can also import the styles from the sample document into a new document you create.
Download the “ePub Best Practices” sample document at the following web address:
    http://images.apple.com/support/pages/docs/ePub_Best_Practices_EN.zip
Do either of the following:Use the sample document as a template.Import the paragraph styles from the sample document into a new or existing Pages document.
Export the document you create to ePub format to see how it looks in iBooks.
Preparing an existing Pages document for export to ePub format
Documents exported to the ePub format automatically appear with page breaks before every chapter. A table of contents is automatically generated, which allows readers to jump quickly to any chapter title, heading, or subheading in the book. In order to create a meaningful table of contents, it’s important to apply appropriate styles within your document. The ePub reader uses the paragraph styles to determine which items should appear in the table of contents for your book.
Note: The Pages document must have been created using a word processing template.

  • Important Questions to ask when developing in Workflow

    Hello All,
      I have two questions.
I am not a Workflow developer, but I've been asked to find out information about creating a Workflow process.
Here is what <b>I</b> need to know: What are important questions to ask the end-user when creating a workflow. What needs to be taken into consideration?
Here is an example of the kind of thing we need to do:
Send an email on a weekly basis to different Project Managers a Summary of Project Charges = (maybe CN41?)
Each Project Manager will have different requirements, so  I guess one question will be: "What info do you want from this report?". What else do I need to know?
My second question is this: I should be able to output this as an Excel, correct? How much can I customize this? I haven't done much SAP -> Excel work. Only when I go to System -> List -> Save -> Local File ->Spreadsheet.
    Thanks for the help.
    Don Fields

    Hello Don!
WF is quite a complex topic and someone could write a book to answer your questions - actually there is already a good book available -> check: Practical Workflow for SAP
    http://www.sap-press.com/product.cfm?account=&product=H950
Looking at your example their might not even be a need for a workflow but rather a job that runs periodically to send the required information via email to project managers.
Workflow is mostly used if user actions are required e.g. confirm, approve, reject a request or notifications need to be sent to someone after an event or user action occured.
Check this link for getting more information on how to download data to excel:

  • Import questions

Hello. I plan on writing a guide that lets you use Windows Vista on Boot Camp and keeping your Mac and Windows' features in unison, so you use both system's features (both system's photo viewers, for example). I'd like to know a few things, though:
    1) Has anyone here got a tune from the URGE system? If so, can you burn URGE songs to a CD? And if so, here's the real question: if you import them from CD, will they be stripped of DRM?
    2) Does anyone know of a way to convert iTunes libraries to Windows Media Player libraries? I plan to cover both iTunes for Windows and WMP in my tutorial.
    3) Does anyone know if Windows Media Player can store its library on an external drive?
    Thanks.

it would be unreasonable to import my 1190-song iTunes library into WMP
    andlabs,
Careful with the word "import." iTunes and WMP both have the same concept of a library; it is a set of pointers to song files that reside on your hard drive. If the files are there, you can add them to iTunes using File > Add Folder to Library. You can add them to WMP by using "Add to Media Library." That is the best way for each to build its own library. That will be much simpler and quicker than attempting to convert existing library data. Both programs can use the same copy, and will not care that it is in the library of another program.
Just to clarify, the intent of my comment about DRM was "avoid acquiring DRM protected files." All DRM schemes today are proprietary to a single vendor, and that is contrary to your objective of using songs in multiple players. Stick to mp3 as much as possible; there is nothing else nearly as portable.
    Good luck with the Guide!
