Origin Server capacity?

I have begun to notice a large amount of the following error in my WC logs:
"Capacity, as set by Web Cache, is exceeded for all origin servers that are available for processing this request...."
What is the best approach to determine what the Capacity setting for our origin server should be?
Currently this is set at "100", which seems a bit low to me, as our server averages about 3 million WC hits per month....
Thanks in advance for any advice as to how this can be approached....

The limit for capacity will depend upon resources (e.g. CPU and memory) available in your environments. It may be a bit of trial and error to find a value that works for you. You can alter this value from the Enterprise Manager console (edit an Origin Server) or Web Cache Administrator. For more info, see the online documentation.

  • Origin server recovery after failover not working

    version of oracle web cache - webcache9.0.2.0.0_WINDOWS_OWM.zip
    patch set applied - p2885472_9022_WINNT
    firstly architecture is as follows:
    - 1 x Standalone OWC
    - 2 x Origin Web Servers (Standalone OC4J)
    - OWC configured with single site mapped to two origin servers (load-balancing and failover)
    - only http at this point in time
    behaviour i experience is the following:
    1.. 2 origin servers (A + B) running, owc balancing the load
    2.. origin web server A is shut down
    3. owc reports origin web server A to be down on first failed request
    4. all sessions fail-over instantly to origin server B
    5. origin web server A is started again
    6. within 5 seconds owc reports origin web server A to be UP
    7. ****problem**** all requests (even new clients) are forwarded to origin web server B, origin web server A never receives a request again (I've waited more than 10 mins)
    - to restore normal load balancing behaviour i need to restart owc
    -already checked event log in verbose mode and no errors reported

    Hi Venkat,
    In the site-to-server mapping page, make sure that you are matching one Web cache with 2 origin servers in a single entry.
    If possible, I urge you to patch Web Cache up to 9.0.2.3. There has been some bug fixes in 9.0.2.0 regarding load balancing. To obtain a patch, you need to contact Oracle Support.
    Thanks!

    Our AWs are typically 30GB in size. My question is, what is my capacity of jdbc thin client user sessions per box? I haven't been able to find much documentation on scalability with large AWs and a large user base. We will need to host reports for 6000 users moving to 16000 by next year.
    We will be switching to 2x 1.6ghz 64bit opteron boxes this year sometime as well.

  • Precalculation SAP Server Capacity before deploy Roll Out Project

    Hello Experts,
    Kindly any one share your great experience to help our requirement.
    We are planning to implement new business scenarios and new client in existing Production server.
    Before deploy new business functionalists, what are factors need to consider in existing Production server.
    How to precalculate SAP server capacity to adopt new functionality, how affect workload, performance, memory..etc..
    Kindly any one the list of factors.. and some standard document.
    Regards,
    Karthik

    Hi Karthik,
    First find out the 'capacity' of your current server hardware. Ask the HW provider for the SAPS number of the machines, or look it up on SAP's benchmark sides http://service.sap.com/benchmarks
    Then monitor the current usage of your servers to find out how many SAPS you need for the existing functions, and how much headroom you have left.
    And for the new functions, look whether some sizing guideline exists (http://service.sap.com/sizing) or if a sizing for the new application is implemented in the quicksizer tool.
    With that, it should be a simple a + b = c type calculation.
    Best Regards, Randolf

  • Origin Server module got an ABORT

    Hello,
    I'm trying to access to my web server (Microsoft IIS) through Oracle Web Cache, but I 've always this error : Oracle Web Cache Network error on my browser, ans the following message in eventlog :
    24/Jun/2002:16:30:44 +0200 -- Warning: Origin Server module got an ABORT; Errno: -20 URI: /wlb/en_GB/userIdent.htm
    Do you know the reason of this problem ?
    Thank you.
    Patrick.

    This error message doesn't look like something from the 2.0.0.4 release. Must be earlier.
    Does this happen on every request or just for this URI?
    Please upgrade to 9.0.2 and see if that fixes things. 9.0.2 standalone on Windows will be out later this week or early next week.
    The iAS Core release on Windows is already out, so you can try that in the meantime.

  • Need help with Edge/Origin server configurations

    I've been trying now for few days to configure an Edge server that would connect to our working Origin server.
    I have not changed anything on the Origin server and media are served properly
    I can easily play all media from the videoPlayer.html sample app distributed with the server.
    http://10.0.9.19:8134/samples/videoPlayer/videoplayer.html
    using the media;
    rtmp://10.0.9.19/vod/stories/Test/test
    Now I have installed a fresh version of FMS on a second machine and configured the Edge server as follow;
            <Proxy>
                    <Mode>remote</Mode>
                    <RequestTimeout>5</RequestTimeout>
                    <Anonymous>false</Anonymous>
                    <CacheDir enabled="true" useAppName="true">
                            <Path>c:\fmscache\</Path>
                            <MaxSize>32</MaxSize>
                    </CacheDir>
                    <LocalAddress></LocalAddress>
                    <RouteTable protocol="">
                            <RouteEntry>*:*;10.0.9.19:*</RouteEntry>
                    </RouteTable>
                    <EdgeAutoDiscovery>
                            <Enabled>false</Enabled>
                            <AllowOverride>true</AllowOverride>
                            <WaitTime>5000</WaitTime>
                    </EdgeAutoDiscovery>
                    <AggregateMessages enabled="true">
                    </AggregateMessages>
            </Proxy>
    Now if I try to connect to rtmp://10.0.9.20/vod/stories/Test/test i simply get an error saying that it cannot connect to the network...
    I also tried rtmp://10.0.9.20/?rtmp://10.0.9.19/vod/stories/Test/test
    That is using the videoPlayer.html sample and/or our app.
    What I am doing wrong?

    Ok, it seem that I just found something;
    If I launch the browser on the same machine as the edge and use "localhost" instead of IP it works.
    So
    http://localhost:8134/samples/videoPlayer/videoplayer.html?source=rtmp://localhost/vod/sto ries/Test/test
    works while
    http://localhost:8134/samples/videoPlayer/videoplayer.html?source=rtmp://10.0.9.19/vod/sto ries/Test/test
    don't!
    So there must be a config I am missing to tell the Edge to listen on ALL IP...
    ok, that is all good if the browser is ran from the same machine as the Edge server but still not working if the browser is launched from my desktop

  • WXE-14046 Origin server response is being throttled

    Hi,
    We're experiencing problems when downloading files; sometimes the downloads are retrieved quickly, sometimes slowly.
    In IE it's always slow, in FF or Chrome it tends to vary.
    Our setup is: webcache -> http-server -> weblogic.
    The downloaded files are not cached by webcache.
    It's a local setup, so files are downloaded over LAN and when quick, an 8mb file s retrieved in a second.
    When slow a download comes in at 100kb/s, and it seems to come in at 1mb bursts every 10 sec.
    When the webcache is bypassed, and we download from the httpserver or weblogic directly, there's never a slowdown.
    So it seems webcache is interfering somehow.
    I've set the event log to debug mode, and the only difference between a quick and a slow download is this line.
    [2011-02-02T15:18:35+01:00] [webcache] [TRACE:32] [WXE-14046] [backend] [ecid: 653466200783,0:1] Origin server response is being throttled.
    Does anyone have some info on what's going on here and if/how it can be disabled ?
    I can't find any info on this feature anywhere other than this page where something similar is mentioned:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/index-089317.html
    NB the version in use is 11.1.1.3.0.
    Cheers,
    Hans Rabouw

    Read bug 11671195 or Note 1306856.1 on Metalink.
    Caveat --- while the workarounds may alleviate some of the performance issues to some degree, they do not fix the problem. Despite extensive configuration and testing (including the "workarounds"), we have been unable to match the performance of WebCache 10g, especially with large file downloads.

  • Webcache origin server auto up and down

    hi all,
    I've configure 2 node and try to perform load balance within each other. i notice from origin server statistic, each of the 2 node keep on restarting by itself. The node alive with the longest time, the load balance will transfer the connection the the node until the node disconnected.
    how can i disable the node by restart itself? i want to force 80% of the connection to node 2.
    thank you

    Hi,
    Web Cache doesn't restart itself without a reason. Please try to check why this is happening. Check logs in $OH/opmn/logs

  • MBP Original Battery Capacity?

    I have a 9 month old (June 2009) 17" MacBook Pro5,2 with the new built-in long life battery (the battery is not user replaceable). I think the battery is faulty as battery life from fully charged to empty seems significantly reduced.
    "About This Mac" reports battery full charge capacity at 8783 mAh, battery condition as "Check Battery" and cycle count for this battery is 65
    iStat Pro reports battery health at 64%.
    coconutBattery doesn't work for this model MBP as it's reporting original battery capacity at 1300 mAh.
    How can I find out what the original battery capacity was so that I can compare current capacity with original capacity?

    G'day Stolds, and welcome to the forums.
    Your 17" came with a battery which Apple specify as a "95 Watt hour" battery.
    The "nominal voltage" for the battery in the 17", used when converting from Watt hours to mAhs is 7.3V. (unlike the 15" and 13" which have a 10.8v battery)
    P=vi (Watts = volts x amps)
    Therefore i (amps)=P (watts)/v (volts)
    95/7.3 = 13 Amps (roughly)
    Multiply by 1000 to get mA
    so this is a battery with roughly 13000 mAh capacity when new.
    The non-removeable batteries in the unibody MBPs are rated to maintain 80% of original maximum capacity for 1000 cycles .
    Your battery is way below par, and clearly defective. Take it in and get it replaced under warranty.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • CUPS Server capacity

    I've been scouring the CUPS documents to try to find the maximum number of users supported per server. But I've failed to find a simple table that says server type X supports Y users. (I understand that there are differences between the deployment method: i.e. full CUCM integration or just IM)
    There is information about capacity in both the Deployment Guide and the SRND, but I can't see the wood for the tress.
    Thanks,

    Hi Ross,
    Please have a look into Docwiki if it helps
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Virtualization_for_Unified_CM_IM_and_Presence#Notes_on_1000_user_VM_configuration
    Number of “Jabber for Everyone” users = (Number of full UC users/Maximum number of full UC users) x
    Maximum number of “Jabber for Everyone” users
    For example, if you have 10,000 full UC users on a server that supports a maximum of 15,000 users, then
    you are operating at 2/3 of the scale for UC, which means that 1/3 is available for “Jabber for Everyone” users.
    The IM and Presence Service supports 25,000 users for IM-only mode, therefore, you can add 8,333 users
    (25,000 x 1/3) through “Jabber for Everyone”. This amounts to a total of 18,333 users.

  • Graceful failure - maximum server capacity reached

    Hello,
    We are doing Infrastructure design and planning.
    We have a requirement for graceful failure in case the maximum capacity of the server is reahed.
    For e.g. server is built for x number of concurrent users.
    when x+1th user accesses the system, instead of system just behaving slow and not responding, we want it to redirect users to a web page or show a message saying please try after some time.
    What is the best way to handle this requirement?
    Can we use one of the web profile error pages for this purpose?
    When the infrastructure doesn't support, is there an error generated? Or can we set it up to generate it?
    Thanks,
    Ekta

    Hi,
    From the Error message its clear your application is not able to allocate a new connection from the database .
    You can increase the connection pool size by navugating to
    Data Source==> AgileContentPool data source ===>connection pool and check the value of
    1.initial capacity
    2.Maximum capacity.
    You can increase these capaciy and check .
    Consult your DBA before increasing the capacity .
    Hope it helps
