Outlook 2013 Stops Responding, Closes & Restarts

Hi,
Outlook 2013 on Exchange 2010. Happens multiple times per day.
First fix I applied was removing the auto-complete cache. No good.
Second fix I tried was doing a repair of office via control panel.
Third fix was doing a complete re-install. Still no good.
This is a major problem and I need to get it sorted out.
Thanks.

Hi Bryzey,
Please try below steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1). Please try to load Outlook in safe mode, this will disable all the add-ins and macros, use the default form:
Press Win+ R and type "outlook.exe /safe" in the blank box, then press
Enter.
If Outlook works well in safe mode, then issue might be caused by some add-ins.
2). Your data file could be corrupted. I would suggest you to use scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file.
Please refer to this article on how to use scanpst.exe:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/repair-outlook-data-files-pst-and-ost-HA102749454.aspx
3). If above steps don't fix the issue, try to create a new profile and check result:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/create-an-outlook-profile-HA102749460.aspx
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

  • Outlook 2013 Not Responding and Offline Address Book Issues with Office 365

Around 3 months ago I setup a small business with Office 365 for email. They have 10 PCs, all running newly installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, eight with Office 2013 and two with Office 2010. All are connected to a local domain (Server Essentials
2012) with a single internet connection through a new TP-LINK router. Each user logs into their own PC only.
The network runs perfectly, internet connection is good but there seems to be RANDOM, INTERMITTENT issues with email not being SENT from Outlook every so often. Email will sit in the outbox for up to an hour sometimes before, eventually, being sent. Incoming
email seems ok, although this is more difficult to tell. At others times, email will be sent instantly - the size of the message and any attachments makes no difference.
The issue has happened at some point on every one of the PCs but no particular PC/user seems worse than any other. When email is stuck on one user's PC it can still be sent ok by other users at the same time - so the internet connection is not down. Users can
can always login to the OWA service ok and iPhones etc. all sync ok even when email is stuck in the Outbox.
To debug the issue I have worked on one particular user's PC and carried out the following changes -
    Changes that made no difference
I have checked the router. A SPI firewall is available on the router but this is switched off.
I have changed the MTU on the router with no effect.
There are no unsual add-ins to Outlook
Outgoing email virus scanning is disabled
Outlook is NOT integrated with Lync
The OST file is around 1.7 GBytes is size.
I have recreated the Outlook profile twice but this made no difference
Switched OFF "Cached Exchange Mode" - this made things worse !
The Outlook address book is set to \Offline Global Address List
I have disabled with Windows firewall on the client PC - no change
I have adjusted the KeepAliveTime for packets in the registry of the PC to 20 minutes
Changes that reduced the frequency of "Not Responding"
I have changed the Outlook automatic Send/Receive time from 30 to 10 minutes - this seemed to help
    Possible Related Problem
I have attempted to download the offline address book manually - this hangs at "Copying offline address book template file" in the Send/Receive dialog and there a NO OAB files in the data file location on the PC.
So the only measure that has so far "helped" has been the Outlook Send/Receive time change - now set to 10 minutes. Even so, Outlook will occasionally go "Not Responding" for 30 minutes or more (no windows active - only option
is to close and reopen Outlook).
There does seem to be a problem with the Offline Address book. I can download this ok for this user on my home PC (Outlook 2010) but this will not download manually on the work pc with Outlook 2013 (despite following all the debug steps above).
On work PC I can see literally hundreds of "Schannel" errors in the Windows System event logs -
    Error - Event 36888 Schannel
The following fatal error was generated :10
The internal error state is 10
These errors occur every 2-4 minutes continually all the time Outlook is running. When Outlook is closed the "Schannel" errors stop !
Can anyone suggest what else to try, please ?
I have already investigated this issue on the Office 365 Community Forum, and the Outlook forum and they suggested that it was a client (i.e Outlook) issue and that I should post here for further information.
    Thanks for reading !

    An update to this problem.
I brought one of the office PCs back to my home network and connected it up there. With no changes to the PC I was immediately able to download the Offline Address Book without errors.
This suggests to me that there must be some problem with the internet connection or router setup in the office environment.
The router is a TP-LINK W8970. The internet connection is PPPoA. I have seen some suggestion that an SPI firewall can cause issues. This router has an SPI firewall but this feature is disabled on the router.
While investigating this issue I have frequently been connected remotely to an office PC - sometimes for up to an hour or more. During these periods I have not experienced any connection dropouts so the actual internet connection seems to be ok (i.e. it is
    not dropping out).
However, something seems to be preventing the Outlook client from connecting properly with the Office 365 Exchange server in the office environment - or something is dropping the connection to Outlook. Does anyone know of any router settings that might affect
    this ?
I could try changing the office router but I do not have a spare available. Can anyone suggest a reasonably low cost, currenbtly available router that they know definitely works in the Office 365 environment so that I could buy this for test purposes ?

  • Outlook 2013 Not Responding Windows 8.1

I updated to 8.1 last week. Since then my Outlook (2013) will occasionally freeze. It sits at Not Responding until I close it or restart Outlook. Once it refused to send messages in my Outbox. Upon restarting Outlook the outgoing messages were lost, meaning
not in Outbox and not Sent.
My email is run on a third party Exchange Server and they believe it is a MS problem. Any thoughts on what I need to update, etc?

    Hi,
Are you using Outlook with Cached Exchange mode enabled? If not, please enable it to check the result.
Please first try to open Outlook in safe mode to check if this issue is caused by problematic add-ins. To do this, hold Ctrl key and then double-click on the Outlook shortcut to open it. If the problem would be gone in safe mode, please go to File >
Options > Add-ins and disable suspicious add-in to resolve the problem.
If above doesn't help, please follow the steps in the KB article below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • How to fix acrobat/pagemaker plug-in for Outlook 2013 from disabling on restart?

I have an issue with one of my customers where they have to go in and manually enable the Adobe Acrobat plug-in for Outlook 2013 every time they close and re-open Outlook or restart their computer.  When I go into Add-Ins in Outlook the plug-in isn't in the disabled COM add-ins, but in  the Inactive Application Add-ins section and the user needs to click on Go and then check the box to enable it.  This happens everytime Outlook is restarted or the computer is restarted.  Anyone seen this issue and have a fix?  it's a Windows 7 pro machine running Adobe Acrobat X and Office 2013 (cloud install).  Office and Windows are all patched and up to date.  Running "check for updates" within Acrobat says it's up to date also.  Thanks for any input or help in advance.

Sounds like the Security settings in the registry for Outlook 2013/Office 2013 are stuck and not letting you permantly change/the setting.  This has more to do with Office than it does with Acrobat so you may want to go to the MS website to see where these settings live in the Windows registry.

  • Exchange Server 2010 Outlook Client Stops Responding

Greetings- This issue is with Exchange Server 2010 sp2 using Outlook 2013 clients in AD environment. Single server, single database (80GB) , 60+ users, Windows 8/8.1 workstations.
All of a sudden our users started experiencing issues yesterday. One or two at first, then more.
The issue where Outlook stops responding. This is most noticeable when you try to send and receive. The recipient will get the email before outlook clears it from pending submissions in the outbox.
    1. SMTP is fully operational
    2. Push clients functions normally
    3. Exchange is fully updated and current
    4. The mailbox databases are verified and healthy
    5. Network traffic to and from the server appears normal according to wire shark
    6. Setting Outlook to use no cache connection mitigates the issue partially
    7. The issue is global on all deployed OS's
As this is happening on many, maybe all, workstations, my thought is that is has to do with Exchange, not the client.
    Thanx
You should never, never doubt what nobody is sure about. -Willy Wonka

Does this happen all day, or at specific times?  I'll add that your server appears to be light on CPU, but without knowing its CPU profile (when idle and when under a load), I can't say for sure this is your issue.  One additional thing I can
ask - do you have hyperthreading enabled?  This can be a bad thing in an Exchange server.  See the following:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd346699%28v=exchg.141%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#Hyper and the following:

    Exchange 2010 servers.

  • Outlook 2013 not responding when creating a new email item in Windows 8

This issue occurs intermittently. No add-ins are running. No anti-virus programs are running. Outlook does not respond and it must be restarted. This issue also affects reply email items and forwarding email items as well.

    Hi,
Which type of email account are you using? POP3, IMAP or Exchange?
If you are using a POP3 email account with an Exchange server account configured in the same profile, this issue may happen because the
delivery folder selection is corrupt and you are referencing a nonexistent folder. To fix it, in Outlook 2013, click on the File tab >
Info > Account Settings > Account Settings > Highlight your POP account, then click Change Folder. Select a proper folder to deliver to. For more information, please refer:

  • Lync 2013 stops responding when making audio calls

Lync 2013 desktop client in Windows 8.1 connected to Lync Server 2010
From my office workstation (Windows 7, Lync 2010 client, completely different hardware), from inside the firewall, I don't have any problems (IM, audio, conference, video, desktop sharing all work 100%).  At home, I haven't been able to make PC calls.
I can see the status of my contacts in Lync, and contact them through IM, but as soon as I try to make an audio call, Lync stops responding.  I can, on occasion, connect and can receive audio, but I cannot be heard on the other end.
To place audio calls, I connect to my office workstation through remote desktop - the audio quality is terrible but it works.
I'm testing various configurations using the "Check Call Quality" function under Tools > Audio Device Settings.  I can hear a couple of beeps, or even a ring tone, once, but then it crashes again.  Waiting 10 to 15 minutes, it still
    does not respond.
I am using Lync 2013 because 2010 wasn't available through MS Office HUP.  I checked the compatibility list, and I didn't think there would be a conflict between the two versions.
Would downgrading Lync to 2010 help?
I am not exactly a Lync expert, so I may have some of the setup wrong.  I'm hoping it's as simple as a server/connection setting that I've missed.  I'm using Automatic Configuration under Advanced Connection Settings.
    Hardware specs:
    DELL XPS 8500
    Windows 8.1 64-bit
    Realtek High-Definition ALC887 Audio
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Recon3D PCIe Audio Card
NVidia GeForce GTX 660 Graphics Card
According to Windows, all drivers are up to date.
I had a Logitech webcam installed.  I disconnected it and restarted the computer, to make sure it wasn't affecting Lync.

    Hi,
Did the issue happen only for you or for multiple users?
Did the issue happen when one endpoint is internal and the other is remote or also happen when two endpoint external the company?
If it possible, please try to use another computer login on Lync client 2013 at home.
Please double check if you have configured DNS entry for Lync server Edge A/V service.
Here is a similar case may help you:

Please also double check the Edge external A/V port UDP 3478, TCP 50,000-59,999 and UDP 50,000-59,999 and make sure they are opened.

  • Excel and Word 2013 stop responding after "Save As"

    Hello-
After the last set of updates (7/8/2014), my Word and Excel "stopped responding" when I attempted to "Save As" any document or spreadsheet that I was working on.  I tried multiple suggestions to no avail and finally ran Microsoft's
uninstaller for Office 2013.  I then installed all updates EXCEPT any of the 7/8/2014 updates.  Then I started installing those one by one.  The one that causes the failure for me is KB2880987.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
    Thanks,
    Jaylene

Don't worry, the installation might have just corrupted your local profile files when it failed, I'm sure it would work on another computer. For me, Office works fine I just want that one update off my update list/mind.

  • Outlook syncclient stopped responding - again!

    Hi Everyone,
    Here we go again...
I have a 3GS and all was working perfectly. I was able to sync my calendar great via the usb but then I upgraded to the new iTunes 9.0.3 and the iPhone OS 3.1.3.
The dreaded "Outlook Syncclient has stopped responding" is back. With a vengeance. No matter what I do, uncheck cached mode in Outlook, delete appointments, scan OST and PST's, change settings like "reset sync history" in iTunes, changing other settings I've seen in various posts on the net, the error still occurs. When I uncheck cached mode in Outlook the error doesn't happen but the calendar doesn't even attempt to sync and takes forever. The minute I change back to cached mode I get the error straight away.
However, now, even when I simply click on the info tab while the iPhone is connected to iTunes I get the dreaded error. When changing the preferences to reset sync history I get the dreaded message even without the phone plugged in.
Does anyone have any clue as to what to do or how to sync my outlook calendar with my iPhone (it was working before the update - go figure). I've read both Apple and MS blame each other for this but the only thing that's changed is iTunes and the phone OS.
I really rely on my calendar and need it to work.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Outlook 2013 'Not responding' errors

    Hi,
I'm looking for someone who can help me with an issue that's been the been of my existence for the last couple of weeks/months. I tried every suggestion the Internet has to offer and I'm kinda at the end of my rope here.
On a couple of our workstation we are experiencing serious problems with outlook 2013. The users who use outlook extensively (administrative and management) get 'not responding' messages at random intervals. This can occour when typing a mail, navigating
    in Outlook,...
Most problems occur when working in the calendar ans when planning appointments in calendars of other user.
They all use Windows 7 pro 64b laptops that are no older then a year. When they used outlook 2010 none of them experienced any problems.
Here's a summation of what i tried already
    - Reinstall office
    - Reinstall OS
    - Replace laptop
    - Latest Update
    - Disable all COM-addins (in outlook and in registry on all levels)
    - Disable hardware acceleration (in outlook and registry)
    - Ran the Outlook FIXIT tool
    - Ran OFFCAT
None of the diagnostic tools i used reveal any critical errors.
When i check the log, there is an error but it doesn't reveal any info as to what caused it.

    Hi,
Which account type are you using? If you are using Exchange server account, please swtich the online/cache Exchange mode to check the result
Please also check if the Outlook data file size exceed the limit? If so, it may cause some unexpected behavior. Please refer to the following KB article to change the data file size limit:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925/en-us
In addition, please have a look at this KB article and try the troubleshooting steps regarding Outlook crash.

  • Outlook 2013 Not Responding

We have a server running Exchange 2010 within an AD Domain.

  • Adobe Contribute Plug-In Causes Outlook 2013 to crash, close and reopen

I have Adobe Contribute 5 running on a Windows 7 Professional laptop system with Office 2013. Whenever I reboot, and open Outlook 213, after a while Outlook 2013 closes and has to reopen, and then disables the Contribute plug-in, which appears to be the culprit. I'd like to simply disable the Contribute plug-in on Outlook permanently, but can't figure out how to do so, it always tries to reactiviate each time I reboot (which happens often since this is a laptop). Anyone have this probblem and solve it? Thanks.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums.
To disable the Contribute plugin from Microsoft Outlook 2013 you need to click on File menu then choose options from it.
    FIle>Options>Add-Ins>
Then Click on Go button from Manage com Add-ins .
Highlight the Contribute plugin from the list and remove it .
Please see the screenshot as mentioned below.

  • When applications stop responding and restarting doesn't help

I've trying to get into Photoshop, but while it's loading, it stops responding. I then have to force quit it. I tried to get into it many more times, but it still didn't work. I tried restarting the computer and that didn't help either. What do I do?

Did you install PS from the install disks or migrate it over from another Mac using the Migration Assitant?
If you migrated it over, try uninstalling in and reinstalling from the install disks. Some users have reported issues when they migrated PPC-coded apps over to an Intel Mac.

  • Outlook 2013 stops receiving email

Greetings.  I am having difficulty receiving email in Outlook 2013.
When I first start Outlook, it retrieves email without any problem.  However, after that initial download, the client will not receive any email.  If I exit Outlook, and re-open the application, it will download emails again, but it never updates
    again after the initial download.
    - Email is Exchange (Office365)
    - There are no error messages.  Outlook reports it is "Up to Date"
    - My phone connects to the same Office365 Email account (via ActiveSync), and receives emails with no problems
    - Office365 OWA shows emails as they arrive, with no problems
    - Issue only exists in Outlook 2013
    - PC is Windows 7 SP1, with all patches
    - All Office applications are fully patched
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
It seems that your email can't be received automatically. Please check whether the issue happens in Outlook online mode. If the issue only happens in Outlook cached mode, please
    create a new Outlook profile
to check whether the issue persists.
